A monthlong mission in Ohio recently turned up 45 missing children and led to 179 arrests, authorities said.

In an operation dubbed Autumn Hope, the US Marshals Service in Ohio and Virginia tracked the children, including a “high-risk” 15-year-old girl from Cleveland who was linked to suspected human trafficking, authorities said Monday.

Twenty other children were also located as authorities checked on their well-being.

During one of the missing children recoveries, a loaded gun was recovered. A 15-year-old boy had two warrants and is suspected in multiple shootings and a murder, authorities said.

Two other juveniles were found in West Virginia during a traffic stop, leading to the arrest of an adult male who was charged with concealment/removal of a minor child in Jackson County.

Autumn Hope was conducted by the marshals in conjunction with the Ohio Attorney General’s Office and the Central Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force, as well as the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and state and local agencies in Ohio.

“My thanks to all personnel who have stepped up for this operation,” said Peter C. Tobin, US Marshal for the Southern District of Ohio. “These are the same personnel who hunt down violent fugitives every day. I’m incredibly proud of them and pleased that they were able to apply those same skills to finding missing children. I know Operation Autumn Hope has made a difference in a lot of young lives.”

The US Marshals have conducted similar operations before, including in Ohio.

Last month, they said 35 missing children, between the ages of 13 and 18 from the Cuyahoga County area, were located during Operation Safety Net. Just over 20 percent of the found cases were tied to human trafficking.

That same month, the marshals also announced the arrest of 262 suspects, including 141 gang members, and the recovery of five missing children in Oklahoma.

Thirty-nine children were found in Georgia during Operation Not Forgotten in August and eight missing kids were recovered in Indiana in September as part of Operation Homecoming.

The marshals have found missing children in 75 percent of cases the agency has received — and 72 percent of those cases were recovered within a week, officials said.

Since 2005, the agency has recovered more than 2,000 missing kids.

Adult film actor Ron Jeremy was charged with 20 new counts of sexual assault involving 13 women, including a 15-year-old girl, in Los Angeles on Monday.

Jeremy, 67, whose legal name is Ronald Jeremy Hyatt, is accused of assaulting multiple women dating back as early as 2004 and as recently as January, according to an amended complaint filed by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office. If convicted, Jeremy faces a maximum sentence of more than 250 years to life in state prison.

The new charges against Jeremy include six counts of battery by restraint, five counts of forcible rape, three counts of forcible oral copulation, and two counts of forcible penetration with a foreign object. Jeremy also faces a count each of sodomy, lewd conduct with a 15-year-old girl, assault with the intent to commit rape and penetration by a foreign object on an unconscious or sleeping victim.

The women allegedly assaulted by Jeremy range in age from 15 to 54.

Jeremy is accused of preying upon a then-15-year-old victim, identified only as Jane Doe No. 5, sometime during June 2004. One of the charges of forcible penetration by foreign object also stems from the 2004 incident, when the girl attended a party in Santa Clarita, according to the district attorney’s office.

The most recent of Jeremy’s alleged crimes took place on January 1 with a 21-year-old woman outside a business in Hollywood, the prosecutor’s office said Monday. Jeremy was charged with forcible rape and sodomy in this case, according to the amended complaint.

Jeremy is also accused in a May 2014 incident, when he allegedly raped a 25-year-old woman at a home in West Hollywood.

Six of the alleged assaults occurred in a West Hollywood bar Jeremy regularly frequented, with a seventh allegedly committed in the bar’s parking lot, the district attorney’s office said.

Jeremy was previously charged in June with three counts of forcible rape and forcible penetration with a foreign object, and one count each of forcible oral copulation and sexual battery.

He pleaded not guilty to all eight counts in June. An attorney for Jeremy did not immediately respond to a request for comment to NBC News on the new charges filed Monday.

Jeremy is expected to be arraigned on the new charges Monday. He remains in custody in the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A dispute that erupted into gun fire at an apparent outdoor party in Washington, D.C., early Sunday left one person dead and some 20 others injured, including an off-duty officer “struggling for her life,” according to police.

A 17-year-old male, identified as Christopher Brown, died in the shooting that occurred after midnight in a southeast side neighborhood where people had gathered for music and food.

"I really don't understand how my child's life is gone. 17, my oldest, I have five boys. Just an innocent king's life is taken for whatever the reason," the teen's mother said Sunday.

“There was some kind of a dispute,” Peter Newsham, the chief of the Metropolitan Police Department, told reporters. “Multiple weapons were produced.” He said a motive for the shooting wasn’t clear.

The off-duty officer was taken by fellow officers to a local hospital, Newsham said.

“She’s struggling for her life right now,” he said. He added that “the rest of the gunshot wounds, as far as we know, are non-life-threatening.”

No arrests were immediately announced.

There may have been hundreds of attendees at the gathering despite city restrictions during the coronavirus pandemic on such large gatherings, Newsham said.

Nelson Bostic, a resident in the area, told WTOP the gathering appeared to be a birthday party. After the burst of gunfire, he said he saw “people laying on the ground” and “ducking under cars.”

“It was terrible,” he said.

(CNN) A New Jersey mother died from coronavirus without knowing that her two children also got infected and died shortly before she did, The New York Times reported.

Grace Fusco, 73, died Wednesday and was unaware of the deaths of her oldest son and daughter from Covid-19, the disease caused by coronavirus.

A relative told the newspaper that four other children also have coronavirus and remain hospitalized -- three in critical condition. CNN has reached out to a family representative but has not heard back.

The infections appeared to have originated from a family dinner this month, the Times reported. It said the first person to die from coronavirus in New Jersey attended that gathering.

Grace Fusco's oldest daughter, Rita Fusco-Jackson, 55, of Freehold, New Jersey, died Friday. Shortly afterward, the family learned she had coronavirus. Her son, Carmine Fusco, of Bath, Pennsylvania, died just before his mother Wednesday.

Nearly 20 other relatives are quarantined at their homes and are grieving the loss separately, The Times said.

EL PASO, Texas (AP) — NFL offensive tackle Greg Robinson remained in a West Texas jail without bond Wednesday after federal agents said they found 157 pounds (71.21 kilograms) of marijuana in a rented vehicle in which he and two other people were riding.

Robinson, 27, of Thibodeaux, Louisiana, and Jaquan Tyreke Bray, 26, of La Grange, Georgia, were in the El Paso County Detention Center after federal authorities charged them with conspiracy to possess marijuana with intent to distribute it. Both were held without bond pending an initial appearance before a U.S. magistrate judge.

If convicted, both could be sentenced to up to 20 years in federal prison. It was unclear from jail and federal court records if they had attorneys.

According to a criminal complaint filed Wednesday by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Robinson, Bray and an unidentified third person were driving from Los Angeles to Louisiana in a rented sport utility vehicle on Interstate 10 through a remote section of West Texas. When they passed a Border Patrol agent with a drug-sniffing dog, the dog detected the scent of marijuana. The agent radioed ahead to the patrol’s checkpoint in near Sierra Blanca, Texas, 83 miles (134 kilometers) southeast of El Paso.

There, the patrol stopped and inspected the vehicle, finding several large duffel bags containing vacuum-sealed black bags containing what tested positive as marijuana, the complaint stated. Also found were glass jars and packaging equipment, along with $3,100 in cash.

Agents said the unidentified passenger was an Uber driver who also drove and ran errands for Robinson and his family and friends. The passenger showed agents cellphone texts that showed Robinson had offered to pay the passenger to claim ownership of the marijuana, according to the complaint. The texts showed the passenger, who is a legally resident immigrant but not a U.S. citizen, refused and would not have made the trip if aware of the drugs in the vehicle. The person was not charged.

The former Auburn University standout was drafted second overall in 2014, by the St. Louis Rams. He signed with the Cleveland Browns in 2018. The Browns recently informed Robinson’s representatives they did not intend to re-sign him as a free agent.

Robinson battled inconsistency while starting 14 games last season for the Browns, who had a disappointing 6-10 season. He was benched for one game and missed another with a concussion.

Kobe Bryant fans are lining up to pay their final respects to the NBA legend and his 13-year old daughter, Gianna "GiGi" Bryant.

It's unclear how many seats remain available at the 20,000 seat Staples Center in Los Angeles. A number of them are already earmarked for friends, family, NBA officials and season ticket holders, but TMZ reports that 88,000 people have registered for a chance to attend the memorial, which will take place on February 24.

A lottery will be held for the people who registered on Tuesday. They will receive a code on Tuesday. If the demand exceeds the number of tickets available on Wednesday, fans will be selected at random to participate in the sale.

There are three ticket prices ... $224, 2 for $224 and upper deck seats for $24.02. 24 is the number Kobe famously wore and 2 represents GiGi's.

All proceeds will go to Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation.

The memorial will be broadcast live on television and online.

RICHMOND, Va. -- An extremely bad case of flu will forever alter the life of a young Virginia man.

Deante Ross, 20, is connected to a ventilator at VCU Medical Center. He has been at the hospital since December 27 because of the virus.

His family first thought Ross had a cold, but his symptoms got worse.

"I had no idea that the flu could cause anything like this," his stepmother Diesha Ross said. "It hit him out of nowhere. He woke up, he was having extremely bad back pain and he was having trouble breathing."

Ross was rushed to Urgent Care where doctors delivered the troubling diagnosis.

"The flu led to pneumonia, then pneumonia led to a massive infection," Diesha Ross said.

Deante was flown to the hospital where he spent three days in a coma.

When he awoke, doctors told him they would have to amputate his fingers and legs.

"He's been so strong through all of this," Diesha Ross said.

Ross' family created a GoFundMePage to help cover medical bills and Deante's costs after he's released from the hospital.

"He's going to need prosthetics, eventually, for his fingers and his legs," Diesha said. "We want him to be able to live as normal a life as possible."

The family has asked the community to keep Deante in their thoughts.

"It's a long road to recovery. We're just taking it day by day," Diesha said. "Pray for us. Pray for our family. Pray for him."

Yo Gotti is a man of his word, following through with a lawsuit on behalf of nearly 30 Mississippi state prisoners enduring nightmarish, sometimes deadly conditions.

TMZ broke the story, Gotti enlisted Team Roc -- the philanthropic arm of Jay-Z's Roc Nation -- and its high-powered attorney, Alex Spiro, to rep the prisoners after a spike in deadly violence at several MS state prisons.

The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in federal court, says the max-security prison, Parchman, is a powder keg after 3 deaths in the first week of 2020. All 3 inmates were stabbed to death.

According to the docs, obtained by TMZ, the MS prison system is "chronically understaffed" and also dramatically underfunded ... as in reduced by tens of millions each year. Those numbers -- combined with allegedly deplorable conditions -- have brought the prison to a boiling point.

To make matters worse, Parchman doesn't have enough mattresses for the inmates, cells are covered in black mold and raw sewage is spilling out on the floors ... according to the suit.

The prison allegedly has a serious water problem too, similar to Flint. In the suit, Team Roc claims the drinking water for inmates repeatedly fails to meet federal safety standards.

According to the suit, inmates are exposed to serious harm and left unprotected because there just aren't enough prison guards.

As we first reported, Gotti, who's from nearby Memphis, was outraged by what's happening inside the walls of Parchman -- and asked Team Roc to fight for the prisoners' civil rights. They demanded MS Gov. Phil Bryant make changes or face a lawsuit, so ... here it is.

The suit seeks damages for the inmates, and an order forcing Mississippi's Dept. of Corrections to lay out a plan to address all the issues ... especially increasing staff and cleaning up the sewage.

Gotti tells TMZ, "The Lives of countless individuals in Mississippi prisons are at stake and we will not stop until this is fixed."

EL PASO, Texas (AP) — Multiple people were killed and injured and at least one person was in custody after a shooting rampage Saturday at a shopping mall, police in the Texas border town of El Paso said.

Police responded in the early afternoon to an active shooter scene at the Cielo Vista Mall, which is near Interstate 10 on east side of the city, and were advising people to stay away from the area.

Shortly after, Sgt. Enrique Carrillo, a police spokesman, said there were multiple victims, that a suspect was in custody and there was no longer danger to the public.

El Paso, which has about 680,000 residents, is in West Texas and sits across the border from Juarez, Mexico.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott called the shooting “a heinous and senseless act of violence” and said the state had deployed a number of law enforcement officers to the city.

A family of three was one of a dozen waiting outside a local bus station, trying to get back to their car, in blocked-off Walmart parking lot.

“I heard the shots but I thought they were hits, like roof construction,” said Adriana Quezada, 39, who was in Walmart with in the women’s clothing section with her two children.

She said she saw four men, dressed in black, wearing shirts, moved together firing guns indiscriminately.

“I saw four men, shooting everywhere,” Quezada said “I told my son, those are gunshots.”

Her daughter, 19, and son, 16, threw themselves in the ground, then ran out of the Walmart through an emergency exit. They were unhurt.

White House staff said President Trump was briefed on the shooting and spoke about it with Attorney General Barr and Governor Abbott.

Presidential candidate and former Texas congressman Beto O’Rourke appeared a bit shaken as he appeared at a candidate forum in Las Vegas on Saturday shortly after news of the shooting in his hometown was reported.

O’Rourke said he had called his wife before taking the stage and said the shooting shatters “any illusion that we have that progress is inevitable” on tackling gun violence.

The Democrat said he’d heard early reports that the shooter might have had a military-style weapon, saying we need to “keep that (expletive) on the battlefield and do not bring it into our communities.”

“We have to find some reason for optimism and hope or else we consign ourselves to a future where nearly 40,000 people are year will lose their lives to gun violence and I cannot accept that,” O’Rourke said.

(Detroit News) San Diego — Former All-Star pitcher Esteban Loaiza has been arrested on suspicion of trafficking drugs after packages containing a white powder believed to be cocaine were found at a home he rented in Southern California, officials said Monday.

The 46-year-old former Major League Baseball player was booked Friday on charges involving the possession, transport and sale of 20 kilograms (44 pounds) of suspected cocaine worth an estimated $500,000, according to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.

Loaiza played for numerous teams between 1995 and 2008, starting with the Pittsburgh Pirates and concluding with his second stint with the Chicago White Sox. He had a 21-9 record with the Chicago White Sox in 2003 and started in the All-Star Game that year.

He was a noted Tiger killer, going 11-5 with a 2.94 ERA in 21 games (18 starts) against Detroit in his career.

It was not immediately known if Loaiza had hired a lawyer and the former player could not be reached to comment. He was being held Monday for lack of $200,000 bail pending a court appearance on Wednesday.

Loaiza’s agent, John Boggs, told the San Francisco Chronicle that he had no information about the arrest and that he has not spoken to Loaiza recently. He said that Loaiza had called his office early last week but Boggs was unavailable at the time.

“I am shocked and saddened by the news and had no indication he would ever be in this type of situation,” Boggs said in a text to the newspaper. “I don’t know how he would get himself involved in this, so it’s difficult to even comment on it.”

Officers stopped Loaiza for a minor traffic infraction Friday after he left the home he started renting recently in the Pacific coast community of Imperial Beach, along the U.S.-Mexico border. Authorities had the vehicle under surveillance on suspicion it was used for smuggling drugs.

When they searched the vehicle, they found a sophisticated compartment used to conceal contraband, authorities said. That led them to obtain a search warrant for Loaiza’s rental home, where they found the packages of drugs, according to investigators.

The packages containing a white powder are still being tested but are believed to be cocaine, said San Diego Sheriff’s Lt. Jason Vickery.

Loaiza was born in Tijuana, Mexico and was married for two years to the late Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera. She filed for divorce shortly before she died in a plane crash in 2012.

The 43-year-old Rivera was known as the “Diva de la Banda” and died as her career was peaking. She was perhaps the most successful female singer in grupero, a male-dominated Mexico regional style, sold more than 15 million records, and moved into acting and reality television.

Loaiza sued the aircraft’s owners in 2014 for wrongful death but her relatives accused him of trying to profit from her death. He denied the accusations and later retracted his lawsuit.
