One of DaBaby's first major legal cases is being discussed anew after a video capturing him fatally shooting someone surfaced online -- sparking a fierce debate about self-defense.

Rolling Stone published surveillance footage Sunday depicting a 2018 confrontation DaBaby was involved in at a Walmart out in his native North Carolina -- before he was super famous -- in which he shot & killed a man.

DB was eventually charged with carrying a concealed weapon for the shooting, but no murder charge.

DaBaby hasn't shied away from this case ... insisting from the jump he was acting in self-defense -- claiming the victim, 19-year-old Jaylin Craig, had pulled a gun & he feared for his and his family's life. He was with his GF & baby girl in the store.

RS suggests this video contradicts DaBaby's self-defense narrative, as he appears to be the aggressor in this situation -- at least based on what they posted. He charges at another man (not Craig) & the two get into a scuffle, with Craig monitoring on the outskirts.

Craig appears to reach for and even brandish what was later determined to be a gun on his person -- but RS says his grieving family insists he never would've had to resort to grabbing it if not for DB's aggressive behavior setting this whole thing in motion.

Frankly, it's unclear what exactly set all this off -- DB has claimed Craig and his pals were harassing and threatening him and his brood that night, which is why he went on the attack.

While Rolling Stone appears to be questioning DaBaby's story of protecting himself, others have seen this video and agreed ... he had every right to pull his own gun & fire once Craig pulled his, especially since he wasn't the one directly involved in the fistfight.

Of course, others say this video just proves DaBaby is a bad seed & apparently prone to violence ... something his own history since this incident seems to support, at least in some folks' eyes. As you know, he's been involved in countless physical altercations over the years.

Most recently, he shot somebody whom he claims had wandered onto his property & just this weekend, he also appears to have openly swung on one of his own signed artists.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — The gunman who killed 14 students and three staff members at a Parkland, Florida, high school will plead guilty to their murders, his attorneys said Friday, bringing some closure to a South Florida community more than three years after an attack that sparked a nationwide movement for gun control.

The guilty plea would set up a penalty phase where Nikolas Cruz, 23, would be fighting against the death penalty and hoping for life without parole.

Attorneys for Cruz told Circuit Judge Elizabeth Scherer that he will plead guilty Wednesday to 17 counts of first-degree murder in the February 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. The pleas will come with no conditions and prosecutors still plan to seek the death penalty. That will be decided by a jury, but that trial has not been scheduled.

Cruz will also plead guilty to 17 counts of attempted first-degree murder and to attacking a jail guard nine months after the shooting. He was not present during the hearing.

The trial has been delayed by the pandemic and arguments between the prosecution and defense over what evidence and testimony could be presented to the jury. Some victims’ families had expressed frustration over the delays, but the president of the group they formed expressed relief that the case now seems closer to resolution.

“We just hope the system gives him justice,” said Tony Montalto of Stand With Parkland. His 14-year-old daughter, Gina, died in the shooting.

In the aftermath of the shooting, Parkland student activists formed March for Our Lives, a group that rallied hundreds of thousands around the country for tighter gun laws, including a nationally televised march in Washington, D.C. Parents also made impassioned pleas for accountability and policies aimed at halting gun violence.

The decision by Cruz and his attorneys to plead guilty came unexpectedly. Preparations were being made to begin jury selection within the next few months. He had been set to go on trial next week for the attack on the Broward County jail guard.

Cruz and his lawyers had long offered to plead guilty in exchange for a life sentence, but prosecutors had repeatedly rejected that deal, saying the case deserved a death sentence.

Cruz’s rampage crushed the veneer of safety in Parkland, an upper-middle-class community outside Fort Lauderdale with little crime. Its educational crown jewel is Stoneman Douglas, a campus of 3,200 students that is one of the top-ranked public schools in the state.

Oct 20 (Reuters) - Accused shooter Nikolas Cruz pleaded guilty on Wednesday to 17 counts of murder & 17 counts of attempted murder in the 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, the deadliest ever at a U.S. high school.

At a hearing, Cruz, 23, stood hunched over & entered one guilty plea at a time as the judge read off the charges. His lawyer, David Wheeler, Broward County's chief assistant public defender, said last week Cruz intended to plead guilty in the Valentine's Day attack. 

Cruz was a 19-year-old expelled student with a history of mental health & behavioral issues at the time of the "cold, calculated & premeditated" killings, Broward County's State's Attorney Office said.

After the pleas were entered, Cruz removed his COVID-19 mask & apologized to his victims.

'May I take off my mask?" he asked before saying: 'I am very sorry for what I did and I have to live with it everyday. If I were to get a second chance I would do everything in my power to help others.'

'I do not care if you don't believe me,' he said to the court, adding that he now gets 'nightmares sometimes & can't even watch TV anymore.' 'I hate drugs & I believe this country would do better if everyone would stop smoking marijuana... I'm trying my best to maintain my composure & I just want you to know that I'm really sorry.'

Because prosecutors have vowed to seek the death penalty, his change of plea from not guilty opens the penalty phase. A jury would decide whether he should be sentenced to life in prison or death.

SAN FRANCISCO — A team of cold case investigators say they have finally identified the Zodiac Killer, one of America's most prolific serial murderers who terrorized San Francisco in the late 1960s.

The Case Breakers, a team of more than 40 detectives, journalists & military intelligence officers, believes the killer is responsible for a murder hundreds of miles away that was never linked to him previously.

The Zodiac Killer has been connected to 5 murders in 1968 & 1969 in the San Francisco area. The Zodiac taunted authorities with complex riddles & codes in letters sent to newspapers & police. The murders spawned books, movies & documentaries. Amateur & professional detectives have pored over the case to try to identify the killer.

In the decades since the Zodic Killer's first murder, several potential suspects have been investigated.

The Case Breakers say they have identified the Zodiac Killer as Gary Francis Poste, who passed away in 2018.

The team's years of digging uncovered new forensic evidence & photos from Poste's darkroom. Including an image that features scars on the forehead of Poste that match scars on a sketch of the Zodiac.

Other clues include deciphering letters sent by the Zodiac that revealed him as the killer, said Jen Bucholtz, a former Army counterintelligence agent who works on cold cases. In one note, the letters of Poste's full name were removed to reveal an alternate message.

"So you've got to know Gary's full name in order to decipher these anagrams," Bucholtz said. "I just don't think there's any other way anybody would have figured it out."

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A sheriff’s deputy in the San Francisco Bay Area has been charged with manslaughter & assault in the fatal shooting of an unarmed Filipino man during a slow-moving car chase more than two years ago.

Last month, the same deputy shot & killed a Black man.

The Contra Costa County district attorney’s office said it charged Deputy Andrew Hall with felony voluntary manslaughter & felony assault with a semi-automatic firearm in the 2018 killing of 33-year-old Laudemar Arboleda, who was shot 9 times.

“Officer Hall used unreasonable & unnecessary force when he responded to the in-progress traffic pursuit involving Laudemer Arboleda, endangering not only Mr. Arboleda’s life but the lives of his fellow officers and citizens in the immediate area,” District Attorney Diana Becton said.

Deputies slowly pursued Arboleda through the city of Danville after someone reported a suspicious person. Sheriff’s department video shows Hall stopping his patrol car, getting out & running toward the sedan driven by Arboleda. Hall opened fire & kept shooting as Arboleda’s car passed by, striking him 9 times.

Hall’s attorney, Harry Stern, said prosecutors previously deemed the deputy’s use of force in the 2018 case justified, “given the fact that he was defending himself from a lethal threat. The timing of their sudden reversal in deciding to file charges seems suspect & overtly political.”

The district attorney has faced criticism for taking so long to make a decision in the 2 1/2-year-old case, which intensified after Hall shot & killed Tyrell Wilson on March 11.

Wilson was carrying a knife in the middle of an intersection. Graphic body camera footage released Wednesday shows the deputy call out to Tyrell Wilson, 33, accusing him of jaywalking & then shoot him in the middle of a busy intersection within seconds of asking him to drop his knife.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — In 2018, Gregory Bush walked into the Jeffersontown Kroger, shot Maurice Stallard, then walked into the parking lot & shot Vickie Jones.

Thursday in court, a judge asked Bush, a white man, if he shot the two victims because they were Black. He said yes.

Bush pled guilty to six federal charges: two counts of shooting & killing a victim based on race, and one count of attempting to shoot a victim based on race. The other three charges are gun related.

The maximum sentence in federal court Bush can receive is life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The death penalty was taken off the table at the request of former U.S. Attorney General William Barr in exchange from a guilty plea from Bush. Jones’s sister, Samuella Gathright, said she has mixed feelings about that exchange.

“I’m a Christian, my family are Christians & I don’t think we would get anything out of him being sentenced to death,” Gathright said. “As long as he never walks this earth again, I think I can live with that.”

Bush will be sentenced June 24 at 1 p.m.

In December, Bush pled guilty, but mentally ill, to murder, attempted murder & wanton endangerment in state court.

He has already been sentenced to life in prison for those crimes.

The victims from one of Tekashi 6ix9ine's crimes are going after him in court ... demanding he pay up for what they suffered when Tekashi and co. robbed them.

Seketha Wonzer and Kevin Dozier just filed suit against the rapper, claiming he was part of the criminal conspiracy set in motion in April 2018 that led to them getting bum-rushed and robbed at gunpoint in NYC -- something Tekashi himself testified and pled guilty to in federal court.

In the docs, obtained by TMZ, Wonzer and Dozier say they lost a bundle during the robbery -- including shoes, master recordings, hard drives, precious jewelry, a camera and cash, among other items. They say the whole thing was a case of mistaken identity -- Tekashi and co. allegedly thought they were affiliated with Rap-A-Lot Records, but they say they weren't.

In the suit, filed by powerhouse attorney Joe Tacopina, they say although Tekashi didn't do the robbing himself ... he did film the whole thing from an SUV outside, while his cohorts in the Nine Trey Bloods did the dirty work. In any case, Wonzer and Dozier now want him to pay for the assault, battery and emotional distress they say they suffered.

The defendants say that because Tekashi copped to this crime in court already, his civil liability for the damages is beyond question.

We'd already spoken to Wonzer -- who also goes by Skyy Daniels -- after Tekashi testified against 2 Nine Trey members, and she didn't think his 2-year prison sentence was fair.

Skyy also told us flatly she wanted to see him pay for what he'd done to her. Tacopina, tells TMZ ... "If Tekashi69 thought his legal problems were over after pleading guilty to brutally assaulting my clients, he was woefully mistaken."

He adds, "We do know this now -- if he refuses to redress the injuries he caused my clients, he’ll sincerely regret that decision."

Tekashi's attorney, Lance Lazzaro, tells TMZ, "We will defend this lawsuit vigorously."

Bill Cosby has won the right to appeal his 2018 sexual assault conviction.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has agreed to review two aspects of the case that Cosby is challenging — the judge’s decision to allow prosecutors to call five other accusers and to introduce evidence that he’d given women Quaaludes in the past.

The 82-year-old is serving a three- to 10-year sentence after a jury found him guilty of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand in 2004 during a second trial.

Constand’s testimony was bolstered the second time around by the five accusers, including supermodel Janice Dickinson, who each recalled how Cosby plied them with pills before sexually assaulting them.

Jurors also heard evidence that Cosby doled out the powerful sedative known as Quaaludes to women before having sex with them. He made the admissions in depositions taken in 2005 and 2006 as part of Constand’s civil lawsuit.

The jury in Cosby’s first trial in 2017 deadlocked after six days of deliberations.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court will also examine an agreement from a decade ago that Cosby had with former Philadelphia District Attorney Bruce Castor. The deal granted Cosby immunity from prosecution. The fallen funnyman said he relied on that promise before agreeing to the deposition.
