Toxicology Report: 'Friends' Star Matthew Perry Died From 'Acute Effects Of Ketamine' And Drowning (Video)

Matthew Perry's death was ruled an accident, with the cause being the effects of ketamine.

"The County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner (DME) determined the cause of death for 54-year-old actor Matthew Langford Perry as the acute effects of ketamine," the Los Angeles County Corner's Office said Friday.

The beloved "Friends" actor who long struggled with addiction, was found dead at his Los Angeles home on October 28. He was found unresponsive in his hot tub.

"Contributing factors in Mr. Perry's death include drowning, coronary artery disease & the effects of buprenorphine (used to treat opioid use disorder). The manner of death is accident."

Ketamine, which was once known only as a party drug, can be used recreationally or as a treatment for depression & other mental health issues under doctor supervision.

Perry was using ketamine therapy but the amount found in his system — about as much as would be used in general anesthesia — could not have been from his last treatment a week & a half prior.

The amount of ketamine used to treat depression is much lower than the amount used in general anesthesia.

Perry's opioid replacement therapy & his previous heart condition exacerbated the effects of the ketamine before he drowned.

Perry had coronary artery disease, which is when plaque builds up on the walls of the arteries of the heart, causing them to narrow. This condition, plus the ketamine, led to "cardiovascular overstimulation."

Perry was taking buprenorphine, a medication used to treat opioid use disorder. While buprenorphine & ketamine can be combined at low doses, high doses of both drugs can cause people to breathe too slowly & lose consciousness.

4 People Arrested In Alleged Rape Of LSU Student Madison Brooks, Who Died After She Was Hit By Car

Four suspects have been arrested for the involvement of the case of the Lousiana State University student who was hit and killed by a vehicle in Baton Rouge earlier this month.

According to East Baton Rouge Police Department, a 17-year-old juvenile and Kaivon Deondre Washington, 18, are being accused of third-degree rape.

Two other men, Everette Lee, 28, and Casen John Carver, 18, are being accused of being principles to the crime. This means that they were present during the incident but were not directly involved.

According to police, Madison Brooks, 19, was leaving a bar in Tigerland around 1 a.m. when she entered the vehicle of the four suspects.

Washington and the unnamed juvenile are accused of raping her in the rear seats, while the other two suspects were in the front seat. The four suspects then dropped her off at a random location which led to her being hit by a vehicle around 3 a.m. on Burbank Drive near Pelican Lakes Parkway.

Deputies say Brooks' toxicology reports show her blood alcohol content (BAC) was .319g%. According to the University of Notre Dame Research, the effects of a BAC between .350g% and .399g% are listed as alcohol poisoning. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) was also found in her system.

R.I.P.: Legendary Actor James Caan Dies At 82. Starred In "The Godfather," "Misery," "Elf," "Brian's Song" And Many More

(CNN) James Caan, the veteran screen actor known for his work in such films as "The Godfather," "Misery" & "Elf," has died. He was 82.

His cause of death was not disclosed.

Caan first found fame playing Chicago Bears halfback Brian Piccolo in "Brian's Song," a widely seen 1971 TV movie. The tearjerking film chronicled Piccolo's real-life battle with terminal cancer & drew praise for its treatment of the interracial friendship between Piccolo & a Black teammate, Gale Sayers.

His next film, 1972's "The Godfather," made Caan a star. Although he was not Italian, Caan was cast as hotheaded Sonny Corleone, oldest of mobster Vito Corleone's 3 sons, who is memorably gunned down by rival gangsters at a tollbooth.

The role earned him an Oscar nomination. Caan also appeared in a flashback in "The Godfather, Part II."

Caan was perhaps best known for playing tough-guy characters in such films as "Thief" & "Rollerball." But he was a versatile actor who commanded a variety of roles, including "Misery," the 1990 Stephen King adaptation about a mild-mannered romance novelist terrorized by an obsessive fan.

He is probably best known to younger audiences for his role in "Elf," the Christmas tale in which he played Will Ferrell's Scrooge-like father, a children's book publisher unhappy to learn he has an exuberant grown son who wears an elf costume & pours maple syrup on his spaghetti.
Caan said he almost turned down the role over the film's title alone but Ferrell convinced him to join the project.

Chadwick Boseman Died Without A Will, But Made Sure His Wife Would Be Taken Care Of

Although Chadwick Boseman knew for years he had terminal cancer, we now know he died without writing a will, but he made a key move months before his death to financially protect his wife.

The "Black Panther" star's widow, Taylor Simone Ledward, has filed probate docs, obtained by TMZ, in which she asks to be named administrator of Chadwick's estate. Taylor has to file the docs in probate court because he did not leave a will.

That seems odd considering Chadwick was diagnosed with colon cancer 4 years ago, and knew it was terminal. However, that also puts his marriage to Taylor, who he reportedly dated since 2015, in a new light ... and here's why.

They got engaged in late 2019, and reportedly tied the knot at some point in 2020. That's important because when a person dies without a will and without children, their surviving spouse inherits all the assets of the probate estate.

According to the docs, Taylor gets nearly $1 million in personal property and assets, but that's not a true reflection of Chadwick's wealth and success. Most likely the majority of his assets are held in separate private trusts.

In the docs, Taylor notes Chadwick is also survived by his 2 parents.

As you know, he was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016 and it progressed to stage IV as he silently battled through it. Chadwick died in his home surrounded by his wife and family.

Roc Nation rapper was a huge fan of singer/actress Aaliyah when he was younger. He recalls being so devastated by her death that he wanted to make a beat in her honor.

"I had such a crush on Aaliyah... It was like a little boy crush but it was a true crush." he says. "And when she died I remember I called my mentor up like, 'Yo you think it would be corny if I made a beat and I called it Aaliyah?' That was my way of paying respect in my own little world."

Aaliyah died at age 22 in a plane crash August 25, 2001, but thanks to her great music and fans like J Cole she will never be forgotten.

The two finalists in Finland's annual World Sauna Championships were rushed to hospital before the competition ended and the Russian contestant died.

The "Russian competitor has died in [the] Sauna World Championships," the competition head, Ossi Arvela, said in a statement.

He added that the Finnish finalist had been taken from the competition location in Heinola, 138 kilometres north of Helsinki, further south to a hospital in the larger city of Lahti for treatment on Saturday (local time).

He said that the two finalists were Russian Vladimir Ladyzhensky and Timo Kaukonen of Finland.

Mr Kaukonen won last year's championships and Mr Ladyzhensky had also figured among the favourites ahead of Saturday's meet, in which participants were asked to withstand a sweltering 110 degrees Celsius for as long as possible.

The "event was interrupted immediately after the accident. [The] competition organisation grieves these sad events," Mr Arvela said.

Police launched an investigation, he said, insisting that "all the rules were followed" and that all the contestants had undergone medical checks before the competition began.

According to Finnish news agency STT, the contest was cut short after about six minutes, and when the doors were opened, both finalists collapsed.

One witness told the news agency they had both suffered serious burns, but Mr Arvela could not confirm the information.

The world championships in sauna sitting have been held in Heinola since 1999, and this year's event drew 135 contestants from 15 different countries.

At least 19 people have been killed in a stampede at the Love Parade dance music festival in the German city of Duisburg, police have said.

Police had been trying to stop people reaching the parade area because of overcrowding.

But the revellers panicked at a tunnel entrance. About 100 people were also injured, dozens seriously.

Police and city officials have launched an investigation into what sparked off the disaster.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has sent her condolences to the family and friends of the victims.

"Young people came to party. Instead, there was death and injury. I am aghast and saddened by the sorrow and the pain," she said.

Duisburg Mayor Adolf Sauerland defended security measures for the festival and vowed to hold a full inquiry.

"In the run-up to the event, we worked out a solid security plan with the organisers and everyone involved," he said.

"The investigations that have already been launched must uncover the precise course of events."

'Way too full'
More than one million people were believed to have attended the event.

The stampede occurred at about 1700 local time (1500 GMT).

Duisburg police initially reported 10 deaths but the toll later increased to 19.

At least 10 people were resuscitated at the scene.

Reuters news agency quoted police commissioner Juergen Kieskemper as saying the situation had become "very chaotic".

He said police closed the parade area due to overcrowding. Those trying to get in were told via loudhailer to turn around, but panic broke out.

A number of eyewitnesses say police were warned of a huge crowd build-up and some report seeing dozens of people piled up on one another, the BBC's Tristana Moore in Germany says.

Emergency workers reportedly had difficulty reaching those crushed.

One festival-goer, named Marius, told the Bild newspaper: "There was no escape. People were pressed into the wall. I was afraid I'd die."

Another man told local television: "The pressure from behind become so high that... we couldn't do anything any more. People were just pushed together until they fell over."

Another participant, Isabel Schloesser, told Reuters: "There were piles of injured on the ground, some being resuscitated, others dead and covered with sheets. It was way too full in the afternoon, everybody wanted to get in."

A young woman told Die Welt: "Everywhere you looked, there were people with blue faces.

"My boyfriend pulled me out over the bodies, otherwise we would both have died in there. How can I ever forget those faces? The faces of the dead."

Police closed off an elevated motorway bridge to allow helicopters to land and evacuate victims.

City officials were said to have chosen not to evacuate the grounds of the day-long festival immediately, fearing it might spark more panic.

City spokesman Frank Kopatschek said: "The crisis meeting determined not to stop the event because at the moment there are too many people on the grounds."

Many of those attending appeared unaware of what had happened.

German President Christian Wulff issued a statement saying: "It is terrible that such a catastrophe brought death, suffering and pain to a peaceful festival full of happy young people from many countries."

The event attracts music fans from all over the world, with floats from Brazil, Russia, the Netherlands, Spain and Australia among other nations.

The floats had been expected to parade through the city for 10 hours. Many top international DJs also perform.

The event began in Berlin in 1989 as a peace demonstration and developed into a huge open-air music festival.

Movie executives at Warner Brothers are firing back at "false, reprehensible, and defamatory" accusations levelled at them by actress BRITTANY MURPHY's widower. Producer Simon Monjack has hinted he's planning to file a wrongful-death suit against the movie studio bosses for allegedly firing the actress from Happy Feet 2 two weeks before her death. He claims she suffered a heart attack as a result of stress related to being let go from the project. Monjack recently told TheDailyBeast.com, "They killed her... She was devastated. "All she wanted to do was to make movies. She was waiting for the role that would revive her career, waiting for the call from Penny Marshall or Gary Fleder, people she had worked with before, that they might remember how talented an actress she was and call with a new magical role." But a Warner Brothers representative tells U.S. news show Access Hollywood that studio bosses aren't taking Monjack's accusations lightly: "Any claim that Warner Bros. Pictures was somehow responsible for Brittany Murphy's tragic death is demonstrably false, reprehensible, and defamatory. "Despite press reports to the contrary, Warner Bros. Baatin of Detroit's Slum Village has died

MLive Reports Baatin, a Detroit rapper and member of Detroit rap collective Slum Village, has died. Tim Maynor, tour manager for Slum Village, confirmed his death in an e-mail to MLive. Maynor did not comment any further, only saying his death is "too fresh right now." News of Baatin's death spread virally around noon Saturday. A cause of death is not known. Baatin, born Titus Glover in 1974, said he started rapping while a student at Pershing High School on Detroit's east side. "I was going by Eazy-T and Scandalous-T back then; it was me, Al Nuke and a few others," Baatin told the Metro Times in a 2007 interview. Baatin, Jay Dee -- who died in 2006 of complications from lupus -- and T3 formed a group and called themselves Ssenepod. In 1991, they changed their name to Slum Village. Baatin also changed his stage name. "When I got spiritual, I wanted a different name," he said. "(Baatin) is Islamic for 'hidden.' " Slum Village underwent several lineup changes over the years. The original trio released "Fantastic, Vol. 1" and "Fantastic, Vol. 2." Jay Dee (also known as J Dilla) left the group and was replaced with Elzhi. That trio scored one of their bigger mainstream hits, "Tainted," which also featured Detroit native singer Dwele.

Baatin told the Metro Times that he struggled with several emotional problems. He left a European tour in 2003 to rest, but later asked to be released from the group. Slum Village, now a duo, continued to perform. During a show at the State Theatre in Detroit, Baatin demanded to be on stage. He was arrested and jailed; after that, he was evicted from his apartment that he says was being paid for by his record label. In 2004, Baatin was diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression; he later developed a crack habit, living homeless for more than a year. A European promoter offered Baatin a chance to revitalize his career with some shows overseas. Baatin accepted, cleaned up and began work on a solo album.

Baatin also reunited with T3 and Elzhi, and a new album, "Villa Manifesto," was scheduled to be released September 22. The first single, "Cloud 9" features Floetry's Marsha Ambrosious.

Several offered online condolencenes as the news spread. On his Twitter, Dwele wrote "R.I.P. baatin of slum village forever." Fans also left thoughts on Baatin's Myspace page and comments on Slum Village videos across YouTube.
