Although Chadwick Boseman knew for years he had terminal cancer, we now know he died without writing a will, but he made a key move months before his death to financially protect his wife.

The "Black Panther" star's widow, Taylor Simone Ledward, has filed probate docs, obtained by TMZ, in which she asks to be named administrator of Chadwick's estate. Taylor has to file the docs in probate court because he did not leave a will.

That seems odd considering Chadwick was diagnosed with colon cancer 4 years ago, and knew it was terminal. However, that also puts his marriage to Taylor, who he reportedly dated since 2015, in a new light ... and here's why.

They got engaged in late 2019, and reportedly tied the knot at some point in 2020. That's important because when a person dies without a will and without children, their surviving spouse inherits all the assets of the probate estate.

According to the docs, Taylor gets nearly $1 million in personal property and assets, but that's not a true reflection of Chadwick's wealth and success. Most likely the majority of his assets are held in separate private trusts.

In the docs, Taylor notes Chadwick is also survived by his 2 parents.

As you know, he was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016 and it progressed to stage IV as he silently battled through it. Chadwick died in his home surrounded by his wife and family.

AP - President Donald Trump paid just $750 in federal income taxes the year he ran for president and in his first year in the White House, according to a report Sunday in The New York Times.

Trump, who has fiercely guarded his tax filings and is the only president in modern times not to make them public, paid no federal income taxes in 10 of the past 15 years.

The details of the tax filings complicate Trump’s description of himself as a shrewd and patriotic businessman, revealing instead a series of financial losses and income from abroad that could come into conflict with his responsibilities as president. The president’s financial disclosures indicated he earned at least $434.9 million in 2018, but the tax filings reported a $47.4 million loss.

The tax filings also illustrate how a reputed billionaire could pay little to nothing in taxes, while someone in the middle class could pay substantially more than him. Nearly half of Americans pay no income taxes, primarily because of how their low incomes are. But IRS figures indicate that the average tax filer paid roughly $12,200 in 2017, about 16 times more than what the president paid.

The disclosure, which the Times said comes from tax return data it obtained extending over two decades, comes at a pivotal moment ahead of the first presidential debate Tuesday and weeks before a divisive election against Democrat Joe Biden.

Speaking at a news conference Sunday at the White House, Trump dismissed the report as “fake news” and maintained he has paid taxes, though he gave no specifics. He also vowed that information about his taxes “will all be revealed,” but he offered no timeline for the disclosure and made similar promises during the 2016 campaign on which he never followed through.

In fact, the president has fielded court challenges against those seeking access to his returns, including the U.S. House, which is suing for access to Trump’s tax returns as part of congressional oversight.

During his first two years as president, Trump received $73 million from foreign operations, which in addition to his golf properties in Scotland and Ireland included $3 million from the Philippines, $2.3 million from India and $1 million from Turkey, among other nations. The president in 2017 paid $145,400 in taxes in India and $156,824 in the Philippines, compared to just $750 in U.S. income taxes. The Times said the tax records did not reveal any unreported connections to Russia.

Trump found multiple ways to reduce his tax bills. He has taken tax deductions on personal expenses such as housing, aircraft and $70,000 to style his hair while he filmed “The Apprentice.” Losses in the property businesses solely owned and managed by Trump appear to have offset income from his stake in “The Apprentice” and other entities with multiple owners.

During the first two years of his presidency, Trump relied on business tax credits to reduce his tax obligations. The Times said $9.7 million worth of business investment credits that were submitted after Trump requested an extension to file his taxes allowed him to reduce his income and pay just $750 each in 2016 and 2017.

Income tax payments help finance the military and domestic programs.

Trump, starting in 2010, claimed and received an income tax refund that totaled $72.9 million, which the Times said was at the core of an ongoing audit by the IRS. The Times said a ruling against Trump could cost him $100 million or more. He also has more than $300 million in loans due to be repaid in the next four years.

Richard Neal, D-Mass., the chair of the House Ways and Means Committee who has tried unsuccessfully to obtain Trump’s tax records, said the Times report makes it even more essential for his committee to get the documents.

“It appears that the President has gamed the tax code to his advantage and used legal fights to delay or avoid paying what he owes,” Neal wrote in a statement. “Now, Donald Trump is the boss of the agency he considers an adversary. It is essential that the IRS’s presidential audit program remain free of interference.”

A lawyer for the Trump Organization, Alan Garten, and a spokesperson for the Trump Organization did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Associated Press on the report.

Garten told the Times that “most, if not all, of the facts appear to be inaccurate.”

He said in a statement to the news organization that the president “has paid tens of millions of dollars in personal taxes to the federal government, including paying millions in personal taxes since announcing his candidacy in 2015.”

The New York Times said it declined to provide Garten with the tax filings in order to protect its sources, but it said its sources had legal access to the records.

During his first general election debate against Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016, Clinton said that perhaps Trump wasn’t releasing his tax returns because he had paid nothing in federal taxes.

Trump interrupted her to say, “That makes me smart.”

Video After The Jump

An 11-year-old girl who was once featured in a video praying for an end to gun violence has died after being shot in Madison, Wisconsin.

Anisa Scott was riding in a car Tuesday morning when a shooter fired into the vehicle, striking her in the head. Police believe the driver of the car with Anisa in it was the intended target.

On Thursday, her family removed her from life support at 11:11 a.m., signifying the date the shooting occurred and her age.

In the wake of her death, an anti-gun violence video that she appeared in back in 2016 has received more than 30,000 views.

“I just want to go outside and play, like a 7-year-old is supposed to do. I don’t want to die,” Anisa said in the video. “They won't stop killing. They won't stop it. God, can you make it better?"

Rafael Ragland, a local filmmaker and father of Anisa’s 5-year-old half-sister Anija Ragland, said he filmed the video with then 7-year-old Anisa after she had just come back from a trip to Chicago with her mother and heard about all of the violence there.

“I’m so confused honestly because the same thing she was praying about, praying that it doesn’t happen to her, then it turns around and happens to her,” Ragland said. “It just devastates me.”

Two male suspects — one 16, the other 19 — have been arrested in Anisa's death, Madison police said Friday.

The 19-year-old, Perion Carreon, was arrested Wednesday, while the 16-year-old, Andre Brown, was arrested Friday. Both are from Madison and were arrested on suspicion of first-degree intentional homicide and attempted first-degree intentional homicide, both as a party to a crime.

If he’s charged with first-degree intentional homicide, Brown would be charged in adult court even though he is only 16. State law requires anyone 10 or older charged with first-degree intentional homicide to be charged as an adult.

During an initial appearance in Dane County Circuit Court Tuesday, a court commissioner set Carreon's bail at $2 million in connection to the homicide. Additional charges Carreon faces in three separate cases had their bail amounts set at the same appearance. Those total $135,000.

Minutes later, Brown's bail was set at $1.5 million during his initial appearance.

BALTIMORE (WBFF) - The family of Korryn Gaines, the 23-year-old woman killed by Baltimore County police in 2016, and their attorney are calling an appeals court’s opinion released late Wednesday a victory.

The court reinstates a $38 million jury verdict award.

It’s another turn of events for the Gaines family. Rhanda Dormeus, Gaines’ mother, said she’s simply feeling joy.

“There’s joy because finally, there is justice. Finally my daughter, Korryn Gaines, whose name has been smeared and people have misjudged, they had their opinions about her, now they see that she is not a villain,“ said Dormeus.

In an opinion released late Wednesday, the Maryland Court of Special Appeals ruled the lower court abused its discretion in throwing out the jury‘s decision to award Gaines’ family the money.

“I’m so glad that the special appeals court saw it for what it was and didn’t make it a political statement by affirming a bad decision,“ said J. Wyndal Gordon, the family’s attorney.

Baltimore County police shot and killed Gaines inside her Randallstown apartment in 2016. Gaines went live on Facebook, she could be seen holding a rifle with her five-year-old son Kodi close by.

Police moved in after a standoff that lasted hours. Cpl. Royce Ruby fired the first shot, killing games and injuring her son. At trial, prosecutors said police shot in self-defense. But a jury called the shooting unreasonable and violated the victims‘ civil rights.

The jury awarded the family $38 million, but the judge overturned the verdict. But now, a higher court reinstates it.

“This means that we won. It’s a big victory for us,“ said Gordon.

“My [blood] pressure is probably through the roof right now, because I’m bursting inside. I really am,“ said Dormeus.

A spokesman for Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski says county attorneys are reviewing the opinion.

Gordon says county attorneys could appeal to the state’s highest court, but added that’s unlikely.

A Miami-Dade County judge sent XXXTentacion to jail during a hearing Friday, December 15, after ruling he had violated his bond related to a 2016 domestic violence case.

As we previously reported, lawyers for the 19-year old rapper, born Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, presented paperwork in court on December 1, that included a request from his ex-girlfriend to drop the numerous charges against him. The document stated that she would no longer cooperate with prosecutors and wants the case to go away.

According to TMZ, prosecutors believe the girlfriend was coerced into signing the document.

In addition to the initial charges of domestic battery by strangulation, aggravated battery of a pregnant woman and false imprisonment, XXXTentacion has been hit with new charges, including different degrees of witness tampering and witness harassment.

He's currently being held without bail. If convicted of all charges XXXTentacion faces decades in prison.

With his head bandaged and left arm in a sling, Troy Ave, walked out of a hospital under his own power Monday night, December 26, a day after being ambushed by a gunman in Brooklyn, New York.

The BSB Records boss suffered a gunshot wound to the back and was grazed in the head, when a man with a hoodie pulled down over his face approached his red Maserati while it was at an intersection and opened fire at around 5:00 in the afternoon on Christmas Day.

73791251?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024

ABC 7 New York reports that after being wounded Troy put his car in reverse and while traveling at a high rate of speed, jumped a median, before being hit by another car.

He was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Doctors made the decision not to take the bullets out at this time, leaving the rapper with one still lodged in his back and a fragment in his head.

Troy will have surgery at a later date to have them removed.

“He is very sore,” his lawyer, John Stella told the New York Daily News. “The doctors told the family that he came dangerously close to having a spinal cord injury — but it looks like there’s no lasting damage from the wound track.”

Troy's girlfriend was in the car with him at the time, but escaped injury.

“DIVINE ORDER. My God is real. We were covered,” she wrote Monday on Facebook.

Police have no suspects at this time.
