WASHINGTON (WUSA9) — One of D.C.'s notorious drug kingpins passed away just four months after being transferred to a halfway house.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed Rayful Edmond III died suddenly Tuesday evening at a halfway house in Florida. Officials have not released the cause of death at this time.
Edmond was transferred to "community confinement" back in August.
"We can confirm that Rayful Edmond III was transferred (not released) on July 31, 2024, to community confinement overseen by the Federal Bureau of Prisons' Nashville Residential Reentry Management Office," said Scott Taylor, a spokesman for the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Edmond was originally sentenced out of the Middle District of Pennsylvania to 30 years consecutive to his D.C. sentence of life in prison – which was reduced to 20 years in prison. At the time, officials said Edmond's assistance as an informant to bring justice to murder cases and putting dozens of other drug dealers in jail made him valuable and helped lower his sentence.
Edmond's information and testimony over the years put away a killer responsible for 30 murders and helped unspool the Cali and Medellin cartel operations in the U.S.
Investigators revealed Edmond was a cellmate of Pablo Escobar’s future brother-in-law. Retired prosecutor Richard Watkins said that after Edmond was caught in 1994 directing Colombian cocaine into D.C. using prison phones, he decided to cooperate with investigators despite the threat of death.

Dec 16 (Reuters) - A 15-year-old girl opened fire in a Wisconsin school classroom on Monday, fatally shooting a fellow student and a teacher and wounding six other people before killing herself with the handgun, police said.
The shooting took place in a mixed-grade study hall shortly before 11 a.m. (1700 GMT) at the Abundant Life Christian School, which has 420 students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.
The shooter was a student at the school, identified by police as Natalie Rupnow, who also went by the name Samantha. A second-grade student, who would generally be 7 or 8 years old, called 911 to report the shooting at the school, Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes told a press conference.
"Let that soak in for a minute," Barnes said.
The two shot dead were a teenage student and a teacher, Barnes said without identifying the victims. Two wounded students were in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, while another teacher and three other students were wounded and expected to survive.
School shootings have been a macabre routine in the United States, with 322 of them this year, according to the K-12 School Shooting Database website. That is the second highest total of any year since 1966, according to that database - topped only by last year's total of 349 such shootings. Monday's rampage was a rarity in that it was carried about by a girl. Only about 3% of all U.S. mass shootings perpetrated by females, studies show. There was as yet no known motive for the violence.
The shooter's parents were cooperating with the investigation, Barnes said, without revealing details of what was discussed. "We have no reason to believe that they have committed a crime at this time," Barnes said of the parents. Investigators were speaking with the girl's father at police facility, Barnes said, but not pressing him too hard because he just lost a daughter.
Asked how she got the gun, Barnes said, "Good question. How does any 15-year-old get ahold of a gun?" At a previous press conference, Barnes lamented how the tragedy would affect Madison, the capital of Wisconsin with a population of about 270,000.

NBC News - Jay-Z, the star rapper & entrepreneur whose real name is Shawn Carter, was accused in a civil lawsuit on Sunday of raping a 13-year-old girl in 2000 allegedly along with Sean “Diddy” Combs. The anonymous accuser, identified only as “Jane Doe,” said the assault happened after she was driven to an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty.
The lawsuit says a friend dropped her off at the VMAs at Radio City Music Hall. She didn’t have a ticket & approached various limousine drivers to attempt to gain access to the show or an after party
. One driver told her that he worked for Combs & she “fit what Diddy was looking for.” He invited her to a party following the show & told her to return to his car later in the evening after he transported Carter & Combs.
Later, the driver picked her up & after 20 minutes arrived at a White House with a U-shaped driveway. She had to sign a document she believed was a non-disclosure agreement on arrival & didn’t receive a copy — to enter the party the suit said was filled with celebrities & people doing marijuana & cocaine. She was offered a drink that made her feel “woozy, lightheaded & felt [like] she needed to lie down,” the suit said.
She went into a room to rest. Shortly after, Combs & Carter entered the room with Combs saying, “You are ready to party!”
That’s when she alleges that Carter removed her clothes & held her down & raped her while Combs & another unnamed female celebrity watched. She says Combs also raped her as Carter & the woman looked on. The suit says she was able to resist being forced to perform oral sex on Combs by hitting him in the neck & that he “stopped.”
After the alleged assault, she “grabbed her clothes” & left. She made her way to a gas station where she called her dad. The accuser is seeking unspecified damages.
The lawsuit is filed under New York’s Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act. #jayz #diddy #jayzrapeaccuser #13yearold #child #kid #teenagegirl #beyonce #rapesurvivor #jayzrapelawsuit #aaliyah #foxybrown #tocatchapredator #jaguarwright #genedeal #badboyentertainment #rocnation #shawncarter #seancombs #violenceagainstwomen #childabuseawareness #50cent #cassie
