Former Louisville Cop, Kelly Goodlett, Pleads Guilty To Lying On Breonna Taylor Search Warrant. Faces Prison Time

Former Louisville Metro Police Detective Kelly Hanna Goodlett pleaded guilty Tuesday to 1 count of conspiring to violate the civil rights of Breonna Taylor for helping falsify an affidavit for the search of her apartment that ended in her death in March 2020.

Goodlett is expected to against 2 of her ex-colleagues, Joshua Jaynes and Kyle Meany, when they are tried on civil rights charges in connection with Taylor’s death. A third ex-detective, Brett Hankison, is also charged in a separate federal indictment.

Goodlett, 35, admitted the charge before U.S. District Judge Rebecca Grady Jennings with Taylor's mother, Tamika Palmer, among those present in the courtroom.

She faces a sentence of no more than 6 years in prison, plus up to a $250,000 fine & 3 years of supervised release.

Goodlett admitted she falsely claimed a postal inspector had verified Taylor was receiving packages for her ex-boyfriend, convicted drug dealer Jamarcus Glover, at her apartment before the raid. In fact, postal inspectors said there was no evidence Taylor was receiving packages at her apartment.

The indictment of Jaynes alleges Goodlett met with Jaynes in his garage so they could “get on the same page” after a postal inspector said the claim that Taylor was receiving Glover's packages was bogus.

Jaynes, 40, & Meany, 35, also face civil rights charges for the search that ended in Taylor's death, while Hankison, 46, is charged with violating the civil rights of Taylor; her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker & 3 of Taylor’s neighbors; by blindly firing shots into her apartment.

Taylor was 26 when she died.

Former Georgia Cop Receives 12-Year Prison Sentence For Killing A Naked, Unarmed Black Man

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. (WSB-TV) -- Former DeKalb County Police Officer Robert "Chip" Olsen was sentenced on Friday to 20 years, with 12 to serve in prison for shooting and killing a naked, unarmed, mentally ill military veteran.

Last month, a jury convicted Robert Olsen in the death of Anthony Hill but found him not guilty of murder. On Friday, Olsen learned his sentence.

Judge LaTisha Dear Jackson imposed the sentence after an emotion-packed hearing that lasted more than three hours. Her decision brings to a close a case that has lingered for more than four years and has been watched closely as a test of police accountability.

Olsen's defense lawyers had asked that the ex-cop serve five years behind bars; prosecutors had sought 30 years, with 25 to serve and five on probation.

Olsen, 57, was acquitted last month on two charges of felony murder for shooting and killing Hill on March 9, 2015. But the ex-cop was convicted on four lesser charges: aggravated assault, making a false statement to a police officer, and two counts of violating his oath of office.

At Friday's hearing, Hill's mother spoke of how Olsen's decision to shoot had shattered her family.

"I know Mr. Olsen didn't wake up that day and say I'm going to shoot Anthony Hill. But his decision to use lethal force is why I do not have my son. My only son," Carolyn Guimmo told the judge.

DeKalb prosecutor Pete Johnson said Olsen must be face the consequences for shooting an unarmed, naked man in broad daylight and then lying about it.

"That's appalling," Johnson told the judge.

But defense lawyer Don Samuel argued that Olsen represents no ongoing threat to the community and urged the judge to resist efforts to use the case to a make broader statement about police conduct.

"Think about mercy, compassion, forgiveness," Samuel said.

Hill, 26, had stopped taking his meds and had stripped off his clothes when he encountered Olsen in the parking lot of the Heights Chamblee apartment complex.

When Hill ran toward Olsen, ignoring his commands to stop, Olsen fired twice.

Olsen has maintained that he acted in self-defense.

What should have been a routine traffic stop turned into an unjustified shooting of a citizen in Columbia, South Carolina.

Prosecutors just released dash cam footage of the incident that happened on September 4th. State Trooper Sean Groubert pulled in behind 35-year old African American Levar Jones, who had stopped at a Circle K convenience store. After Jones exited his vehicle, Groubert asked to see his license.

Jones turns around and reaches inside his vehicle for his I.D. At that point Groubert screams "get out the car," twice before firing four shots

“I just got my license. You said get my license,” Jones says. “I grabbed my license. Right there, that’s my license.”

“Put your hands behind your back,” Groubert tells him, as he walks over to cuff the innocent man.

“What did I do? What did I do, sir?” Jones asks.

Groubert asks him if he is hit.

“I think so, I can’t feel my leg," the injured man replied. "I don’t know what happened. I just grabbed my license. Why did you shoot me?”

“Well, you dove headfirst back into your car,” he said.

According to WLTX, Groubert was fired on September 19 by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety after a review of the State Law Enforcement Division report. DPS Director Leroy Smith said Groubert did not follow protocol when he shot Jones.

Groubert, 31, was arrested Wednesday, September 24, and booked into Richland County Detention Center. Bond was set at $75,000.

He's been charged with felony assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. He has since bailed out of jail.

Groubert will appear in court on October 24. He's facing up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

Jones is said to be recovering from a shot to the hip.

18-year old Brown was unarmed when he was gunned down by a Ferguson, Missouri police officer on Saturday, August 9. The shooting angered the community, resulting in protests, riots and police confrontations.

The unidentified officer is currently on paid administrative leave pending an FBI investigation.

WSVN Reports Miami Police have released surveillance video of four armed men storming into a barber shop and attacking a local entertainer before robbing him. Police said four black males between the ages of 18 and 25 years old invaded a barber shop on July 29 where Opa-Locka rapper, "Brisco", was getting his hair cut. The armed subjects ordered the employees and customers to the floor inside the shop located at 6301 Northwest Sixth Avenue. One of the men pistol-whipped "Brisco" and robbed him of his gold chain, watch, money and his sport utility vehicle. "There was a local rapper who had just left the photoshoot. He went to a barber shop to get his hair cut. They took a little bit more off the top then expected," said Miami Police Officer Jeffery Giordano. "This robbery was off the chain. Four men entered the store, guns drawn, firing shots, luckily no one was hurt, robbing each individual that was in the barber shop. For a rapper to have his bling stolen, they might have well stolen that man's heart. They took his car also. He had a Range Rover. The vehicle was recovered in another location." Authorities want to question an unknown man who was sitting in corner of the barber shop on a cellphone before robbery took place. Officials said after everything was stolen, one of the subjects tapped that man and he ran out.

Boston police officer Justin Barrett was suspended Wednesday, July 29, 2009, for using a racial slur to describe black Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. NYDailyNews Reports The Boston cop suspended for calling Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates a "banana-eating jungle monkey" in a mass e-mail was turned in by fellow cops. The revelation that Officer Justin Barrett's brothers in blue were also revolted by his hateful words came as the police commissioner tried to repair to reputation of Beantown's police department. "This type of venomous rhetoric is severely damaging," Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis declared Thursday. "We will not allow the unacceptable actions of one member to define who we are." Davis said he has apologized to Gates on behalf of the department and they are now checking whether Barrett had any run-ins with blacks while on the job. Barrett is also not getting any love from the local police union, which has denounced his remarks as "offensive and hurtful." "He's gone," Boston Mayor Tom Menino said of Barrett, who has already been suspended. "G-o-n-e. I don't care, it's like cancer. You don't keep those cancers around." Barrett, 36, a cop for two years, has also been suspended by the National Guard, where he holds the rank of captain. Earlier, Barrett insisted he was not a racist and "did not mean to offend anyone." "The words were being used to characterize behavior, not describe anyone," Barrett told WCVB-TV. Barrett conceded it was a "poor choice of words." "I didn't mean it in a racist way," he added. "I treat everyone with dignity and respect." Barrett said he was "just venting" about the July 16 arrest of Gates by a white Cambridge cop that became a national discussion about race when President Obama said the officers acted "stupidly." "People are making it about race," said Barrett, who vowed to fight any attempt to fire him. "It is not about race." But it may be about whether Barrett has any sense. Barrett got into hot water after he fired off the note to his buddies on the force, in the Guard - and, inexplicably, The Boston Globe. In the email, Barrett called the Globe story "jungle monkey gibberish" and wrote that Gates' "first priority should be to get off the phone and comply with police." "For if I was the officer he verbally assaulted like a ... jungle monkey, I would have sprayed him in the face with OC deserving of his belligerent non-compliance," Barrett wrote. OC is pepper spray. Barrett went on to question Gates' credentials, called him a "God damned fool," and twice challenged the paper to "ax" him what he thinks. "I am not a racist, but I am prejudice [sic] towards people who are stupid and pretend to stand up and preach for something they claim is freedom," Barrett wrote.

Cop Trying To Halt Attack Kills Victim

Police say they got to 26-year-old Jill Ulmer's Fayetteville apartment Friday night as the suspect was stabbing her. Officers said they were trying to stop 41-year-old Ricky Anderson from killing his ex-girlfriend when they opened fire into the apartment. Monday, the Fayetteville Police Department said one of those gunshots fired by an officer actually hit Ulmer and is listed as her cause of death, along with multiple stab wounds. Police also confirmed that Ulmer was pregnant. Some are running out of words to describe the situation. "It's absolutely horrible. Fayetteville is a small town, and it's a friendly town, and I feel safe. I just feel bad for her family, and my prayers go out to her," said neighbor Anne Kearney. Neighbors still dealing with Friday night's killing got even more troubling news Monday when they learned a shot fired by police officers hit Ulmer while she was being stabbed. "That's awful, but I don't think they had another choice," Kearney said. Neighbors said police did everything they could to stop what was happening. New information also surfaced about the suspect. "We've had a few run-ins with him. He has been the subject of some investigations and some arrests," said Fayetteville police Sgt. Bill Phelan. Police said Anderson is a suspect in an alleged rape earlier this month. He also violated a protective order that Ulmer had against him and had previously broken into her apartment. Domestic violence experts said Ulmer's killing is an eye-opener. "It's kind of like a wakeup call to all of us in the community to keep our eyes open and be caring about anybody, particularly young pregnant women who might have had a violent person in their lives.," said Judi Selle of the Peace At Home Family Shelter. In a statement, the fayetteville Police Department said it is saddened by Ulmer's tragic death and that it was unfortunate that the officers' best efforts to save her life were unsuccessful. White Officer Who Killed Fellow Black Cop In Harlem Idenified As Officer Andrew Dutton, On Force 4-plus Years

The city cop who fatally shot an off-duty officer in East Harlem was identified Friday as a 30-year-old Long Islander who has been on the job 4 1/2 years, sources said. Officer Andrew Dunton is based at the 25th Precinct in Manhattan and - at the request of the district attorney's office - has not been questioned about the killing of rookie cop Omar Edwards. Mayor Bloomberg said detectives were reviewing security tapes and questioning the suspected thief Edwards was chasing - with gun drawn - when he was shot and killed. "The only thing that can come out of this is to improve procedures so perhaps it doesn't happen again," Bloomberg said. "We all know policing is a dangerous job and accidents happen when people have guns in their hands, even legal guns in this case which they are authorized and trained to use." The Rev. Al Sharpton called for a federal investigation "to sort out the facts" of the fatal shooting of Edwards, who was 25 and black. Dunton is white. "Can police investigate themselves fairly and impartially?" he asked. "It would seem very difficult at best and unlikely in fact." Both Edwards and Dunton were wearing civvies, but police rules put the burden on an off-duty officer to identify himself in any confrontation with other cops. "The challenging officer, however, also has a responsibility to use sound tactics and judgement in approaching the situation," the NYPD Patrol Guide says. It's unclear if Edwards ID'd himself as a cop when he turned - with the gun still in his hand - to face Dunton and the two other officers with him. Sources said Dunton had his shield out - on a lanyard around his neck - and was wearing the color of the day when he yelled drop it. "This is always a black cop's fear, that he'd be mistaken for a [suspect]," a source said. The tragedy began just before 10:30 p.m. Thursday when Edwards, who worked out of a Manhattan housing unit, noticed the driver's side window of his car was smashed and spotted Miguel Goitia rooting around inside, police said. Edwards raced to his car, which was parked on Second Ave. between E. 124th and E. 125th St., and grabbed Goitia. But the suspect managed to slip out of his sweater and escape - with the cop hot on his heels. At the same time, Dunton and two other officers in an unmarked car saw Edwards running down the street. They made a U-turn and got out. "Police! Stop! Drop it!" two of them yelled, sources said. Then Dunton fired six shots - hitting Edwards twice, once in the left arm and once in the chest, police said. Edwards did not fire his weapon. The cops didn't realize Edwards was one of them until rescue crews cut open his shirt to stop the bleeding and saw a police academy shirt. They then searched his pockets and found his shield, sources said. Investigators said the anti-crime cops later nabbed the car-theft suspect Goitia, whose rap sheet includes five arrests for assault, robbery, and drugs. Edwards' mother, Natalia Harding, said her son's dream was to be a cop "ever since he was a little kid." She said he had just married his girlfriend, Danielle Glen, and they have two kids - 1 1/2-year-old Xavier and 7-month-old Keanua. "I'm hurt that they took my son," the heartbroken mom said between sobs Friday morning at her Brooklyn apartment. "That's my baby they took from me. And all I got was his last hug and kiss when he went to work [tonight] and he said, 'Ma, I'll see you when I come home.'" Edwards' father couldn't fathom how such a fatal mistake could happen. "If a police officer sees someone with a gun, you don't just fire without asking questions or trying to apprehend the person," said Ricardo Edwards, 72.
