In a speech to educators in Chicago on Tuesday, Vice President Harris decried the July 4 mass shooting in Highland Park, Illinois & renewed the call for an assault weapons ban.
A 7th person died in the aftermath of the parade shooting, & the suspect, Robert E. Crimo III, has been charged with 7 counts of first degree murder.
The local prosecutor has promised that dozens more charges would be sought.
“I don’t need to tell NEA (National Education Association) we need to end this horror,” Harris said at the NEA’s annual meeting. “We need to stop this violence.”
Harris pointed to the bipartisan gun safety legislation recently signed by President Joe Biden, but said the country needs to do more. And she called on Congress to act.
“Congress needs to have the courage to act & renew the assault weapons ban,” she said. Harris also called on Congress to repeal the liability shield that prevents gun manufacturers from being sued for damage caused by their products.
“So let’s talk about what an assault weapon is designed to do,” Harris said.
“An assault weapon is designed to kill a lot of human beings quickly. There is no reason that we have weapons of war on the streets of America,” she said.
The vice president added: “We need reasonable gun safety laws.”

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — A man has been charged with murder in the death of a 9-year-old girl who was shot when fights broke out in the courtyard of an apartment complex in New Jersey’s capital city.
Isiah Roberts, 19, of Trenton, also faces two counts of aggravated assault and two weapons offenses, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office announced Wednesday. It wasn’t known if he’s retained an attorney.
The shooting occurred around 7:30 p.m. Friday in the courtyard of the Kingsbury Square apartments in Trenton. Police responding to reports of fights and possible shots fired there found the victim, Sequoya Bacon-Jones, who had been shot once. She was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead there a short time later.
Authorities have said they don’t think the child was the intended target, but the investigation is ongoing. It’s also not clear if the shooting was related to the fight.
Kenneth Petty’s alleged rape victim claims she’s being bribed to recant her story.
The accuser is identified as Jennifer. She alleges when she was 16, she was raped by Petty in 1994, who was 15 at the time. In a recent interview with The Daily Beast, Jennifer claims Nicki Minaj & people close to the rapper, are allegedly trying to convince her to recant her story.
The Pettys have always denied the allegations. Back in 2019, during an episode of Nicki’s Apple Music radio show, Queen Radio, the “Yikes” rapper said Jennifer wanted to recant her story in 1995 but allegedly changed her mind when she learned she could serve jail time for filing a false report. Nicki also alluded that people believed Jennifer over her husband because Jennifer is white. However, Jennifer claims to be biracial.
During Jennifer’s interview with The Daily Beast, she denied ever trying to take her story back. She also claims she was offered $20,000, by a childhood friend who also knows Kenneth, to sign a letter stating that she lied in 1994. Jennifer said, “I came outside & sat in the car & he pulled out the letter & the $20,000 out of his middle console & put the money on my lap. And I held it in my hands, and I put it on the floor in the passenger seat. And I told him, ‘I’m not taking it. I don’t want it.’” Jennifer continued,
“It was like this dude, he really doesn’t give two s***ts about me. It’s like, d***, don’t you know I’m a mother of 4? Don’t you know I have kids? These are things I’m saying to him, & to have him come back to me & tell me, ‘Well, you know how many girls can say that I probably raped them?’”
Jennifer claims she moved 3 times last year for her safety. She also says she’s been in contact with U.S. Marshals who said an investigation of the Pettys is underway & that they’ve found evidence.
In 1995 Petty was convicted for first-degree attempted rape. He served nearly 4 years at a NY state prison & was required to register as a sex offender.
Report viaABC7 -- WEST HOLLYWOOD, California -- Rapper Rich the Kid was apparently one of several victims in a robbery, assault and shooting in West Hollywood Tuesday afternoon.
Exclusive AIR7 HD video shows Rich the Kid at the scene after the incident in the 7200 block of Santa Monica Boulevard near Westlake Recording Studios talking to paramedics.
He appeared to not be seriously injured.
Only hours earlier, the 26-year-old rapper - whose real name is Dimitri Roger - posted a picture of himself on Instagram carrying stacks of cash with the caption "Always in bank mo deposit." In that picture he is wearing the same outfit as when he was speaking to the paramedics and was pictured near the same vehicle later seen at the scene.
Eyewitness News learned that singer Usher was in the studios recording his new album when Rich the Kid arrived to record his own music in a separate part of the facility.
The incident was reported at 3:13 p.m. as a robbery and assault involving three suspects and three victims.
Sheriff's deputies said the suspects confronted the victims in an alley behind a business and demanded money and jewelry - and then assaulted them.
As they fled, one suspect fired shots, but it did not appear anyone was struck by bullets.
A witness told Eyewitness News he saw a man emerge from the area and fire multiple shots before escaping in a white sports car.
"The guy came out of here and he took out a gun, he fired six shots into the street," witness Ray Leon said. "I just heard pop, pop, pop. There was about six pops. I got down really quick. He was firing and that car sped away."
Surveillance footage from a nearby salon captured the sound of the shots fired and as people ran to the ground in search of cover.
Authorities said three victims were treated at the scene and released. Their injuries were apparently not serious enough to require hospital transport.
This isn't the first time Rich the Kid has been assaulted. In June, the rapper ended up in the hospital after being attacked during a home-invasion robbery at an apartment in Koreatown.
Multiple shell casings were found on the ground at the scene and marked off as evidence.
Sheriff's deputies blocked off streets in the area as they investigated.
Westlake Recording Studios is one of the most famous recording spots, where everyone from Michael Jackson to Alanis Morissette have recorded music.

What should have been a routine traffic stop turned into an unjustified shooting of a citizen in Columbia, South Carolina.
Prosecutors just released dash cam footage of the incident that happened on September 4th. State Trooper Sean Groubert pulled in behind 35-year old African American Levar Jones, who had stopped at a Circle K convenience store. After Jones exited his vehicle, Groubert asked to see his license.
Sean Groubert
Jones turns around and reaches inside his vehicle for his I.D. At that point Groubert screams "get out the car," twice before firing four shots
“I just got my license. You said get my license,” Jones says. “I grabbed my license. Right there, that’s my license.”
“Put your hands behind your back,” Groubert tells him, as he walks over to cuff the innocent man.
“What did I do? What did I do, sir?” Jones asks.
Groubert asks him if he is hit.
“I think so, I can’t feel my leg," the injured man replied. "I don’t know what happened. I just grabbed my license. Why did you shoot me?”
“Well, you dove headfirst back into your car,” he said.
According to WLTX, Groubert was fired on September 19 by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety after a review of the State Law Enforcement Division report. DPS Director Leroy Smith said Groubert did not follow protocol when he shot Jones.
Sean Groubert mug shot
Groubert, 31, was arrested Wednesday, September 24, and booked into Richland County Detention Center. Bond was set at $75,000.
He's been charged with felony assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. He has since bailed out of jail.
Groubert will appear in court on October 24. He's facing up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
Jones is said to be recovering from a shot to the hip.
TROUBLED pop star BRITNEY SPEARS faces a probe into allegations that she abused her two young sons.
Social workers will quiz her over claims she beat one with a belt and gave both food they were allergic to - making them violently ill.
Investigators were approached by the singer's former bodyguard FERNANDO FLORES - who claims he was forced to quit his job due to Britney's erratic behaviour.
Brit W/Fernando Flores & Jayden
It is understood that the 28-year-old star strongly denies the claims and insists she has never mistreated four-year-old SEAN PRESTON and JAYDEN JAMES, three.
Star's home ... Britney's Beverley Hills mansion
But Flores, 29, has told the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services he feels Britney is too unstable to be left in charge of her sons.
He fears her behaviour could scar for life the youngsters - who split their time between Toxic singer Britney's Beverly Hills mansion and dad KEVIN FEDERLINE's home.
A source said: "Britney doesn't mean to be a bad mum. But Flores feels she has so many issues she can't be trusted around her boys.
"He claims the first really shocking incident was when she came marching into the pool house at her mansion and demanded his belt.
"He handed it over but then followed her into the main house and claims he witnessed the alleged incident."
Flores also accused Britney of feeding the boys food they were allergic to, including shellfish.
The alleged incidents took place in late March or early April.
This month The Sun revealed how Flores claimed Britney constantly walked round naked and sexually harassed him.
Child protection agency workers tried to quiz her last week but she had left LA for a few days.
Britney temporarily lost custody of the boys two years ago after suffering a massive breakdown.

Cops investigating the murder of a Bronx man are looking back at a 2007 assault case in which he took the rap for one of 50 Cent's sidekicks.
Lowell Fletcher, 32, was killed on Jerome Ave. Sept. 27, just two weeks after making parole, and cops are looking to the rap world for a possible motive.
Fletcher, who used the rap name Lodi Mack, was employed by G-Unit rapper Tony Yayo, who was busted two years ago for smacking the 14-year-old son of rival music producer Jimmy (Henchman) Rosemond of Czar Entertainment.
Lil Henchman
The boy was wearing a T-shirt with the name of his father's company, which reps rapper The Game - a rival to Yayo and his famous patron, 50 Cent.
Police said Fletcher, who was a lieutenant in the Bloods as well as a member of Yayo's posse, flashed a handgun at the teen and Yayo backhanded him in the face.
Jimmy Henchman
Later, after his drug arrest, Fletcher told police that he - not Yayo - had hit the boy, and assault charges against Yayo were dropped.
Fletcher pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor and served nine months concurrently with a 2 1/2-year sentence for drug possession.
"He pled guilty for another guy, for Yayo," said a police source.
"And the kid's father is a pretty big guy in the music industry. So the case might be connected to him, or to 50 Cent and his boys, to get the heat off of them."
Another source said there were more theories than facts: "On Jerome Ave., it could be lots of reasons - or no reason."
In April 2008, the mother of Rosemond's son filed a multimillion-dollar civil suit against Fletcher, Yayo, 50 Cent, G-Unit Records and Interscope Records. It charges her son was attacked to promote a violent "gangsta image."
Yayo's lawyer, Scott Leemon, said complaints against the companies and 50 Cent - who wasn't even there - were thrown out, leaving Fletcher and Yayo as the sole defendants in the ongoing civil case.
"Based on Fletcher's death, I have no idea what is going to happen now," Leemon said.
Fletcher was shot around 9:30 p.m. at Jerome Ave. and Goble Place, a quiet block surrounded by shuttered auto-body shops. Investigators believe several men ambushed him that Sunday night.
A day after the shooting, Yayo twittered: "R.I.P TO LODI MACK. GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN."
He later deleted the message.

Wendy Sewell, Therese Ziemann and Michelle Belliveau face up to six years in prison for their glue revenge ambush.
NYDailyNews Reports
A married man who planned to rendezvous with one of his handful of lovers at an eastern Wisconsin motel instead found himself bound, blindfolded and assaulted by a group of women out for revenge, according to court documents.
Four women, including his wife, eventually showed up to humiliate the man, who ended up with his penis glued to his stomach in a bizarre plot to punish him for a lover's quadrangle gone bad, according to the documents filed in Calumet County.
Now it's the women who face punishment, perhaps six years in prison, and at least one said Monday the story has gotten twisted and she's embarrassed. "I am disturbed.
I am upset. I am having a hard time handling life; an emotional wreck," Wendy Sewell, 43, of Kaukauna, said in a telephone interview from her home.
"I am ashamed." Sewell, Therese Ziemann, 48, of Menasha, Michelle Belliveau, 43, of Neenah, and the man's wife are charged with being party to false imprisonment, a felony.
Ziemann also is charged with fourth-degree sexual assault. The women are free on $200 cash bails. Investigators say all the women but Belliveau were romantically involved with the man.
Online court records didn't list defense attorneys for any of the women Monday. The Associated Press is not naming the man's wife to protect his identity as an alleged victim of sexual assault.
The women's plot for revenge unfolded last Thursday at the Lakeview Motel about 30 miles southwest of Green Bay in the tiny village of Stockbridge near the scenic shores of Lake Winnebago.
Criminal complaints filed Friday allege the man agreed to be bound with "sheer sheets" and blindfolded with a pillowcase for a "rub down" by Ziemann.
She instead cut off his underwear with a scissors and summoned the others to the room with a text message.
Ziemann struck the man in the face, and used Krazy Glue to attach his penis to his stomach when the other women arrived, according to the complaints.
The man told investigators he also was threatened with a gun.
Ziemann told investigators she didn't have a gun but may have told the victim, "Do you know how much I want to shoot you?"
He started screaming and the women rushed off fearful that he could get loose and hurt them but allegedly took his wallet, vehicle and cell phone.
Ziemann told investigators she met the man online through Craigslist, fell in love and paid for his use of a room at the motel for the past two months.
She said she gave him about $3,000.
Then last Wednesday, she learned from the man's wife that he was married, had other girlfriends and was "using them for money." She expected the money to be repaid, according to the documents.
During Thursday's confrontation with the man, Ziemann told investigators Sewell asked him, "Which one do you love more?" and the man's wife made a derisive remark about him being scared.
The man got free from the bed by chewing through one of his bindings, went outside and borrowed a telephone from the motel owner to call police.
Ziemann and Belliveau are sisters and Belliveau didn't do anything wrong, Sewell said Monday.
"She was just there for moral support. She wasn't even dating the guy. She stood at the door the whole time and didn't participate or nothing."
Ziemann's husband answered the telephone at their home and declined comment. There was no telephone listing for Belliveau. The man had no telephone listing in Fond du Lac.

On Monday night, some of Hollywood's biggest stars descended on the Mann Village theater for a huge premiere, celebrating the summer's biggest, loudest, most high-profile movie. But on the "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" red carpet, moments before the film was unveiled, the day's news involving Chris Brown and Rihanna was on everyone's lips.
"Violence is never the answer — even if provoked," reasoned Aubrey O'Day, the former Danity Kane member and "Making the Band" star who had just heard the news that Brown accepted a plea deal. "But with bigger issues like war, we just need to let go and forgive. Let people move on."
Look Back At The Timeline Of The Case Here
"I just wish they were here," "Transformers" co-star Tyrese said of Chris and Rihanna, explaining that the escapism of a film like "Revenge of the Fallen" is helpful during difficult times. "[It would help them] to embrace this energy at this premiere."
Sure enough, a huge crowd had poured out for "Fallen" — but as the stars tried to promote their Friday release, it was hard to ignore the news that had broken just a few hours earlier.
"I wish [Chris Brown] luck," confessed "Gossip Girl" actress Taylor Momsen, who was doubtful that the plea deal was the final chapter in the Chris Brown-Rihanna drama. "People like to obsess over personal lives — so I'm sure it's not the end."
"I support both artists," said Ciara, who has toured and recorded with both Brown and Rihanna. "It's a very personal process."
All-American Rejects member Nick Wheeler, however, was a bit less diplomatic. "If it was just a regular dude, would [the sentence] have been the same?" he asked, posing a question on the minds of many who believe Brown's celebrity helped him in the courtroom. "No one should turn a blind eye to [abuse]. He should get what he gets.
"We did a show with Rihanna a couple years ago," Wheeler added. "And she was nice."
"I wish them well," explained Anthony Anderson, a star of the original "Transformers" film, who said that he'll continue to buy Chris Brown albums whenever the troubled singer decides to move forward. "I'm not going to let a personal instance taint my opinion of someone musically."
"He's incredibly talented," Aubrey O'Day agreed. "Regardless of his personal decisions, I will always support his music."

Former Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam artist Tru Life turned himself in to authorities last night (June 23) to face a charge of 1st degree murder, according to reports.
The charge is possibly tied to a brutal stabbing incident last week that left one man seriously injured, and an 18-year old teen dead.
As reported by AllHipHop.com, police were initially investigating Tru Life’s brother for a retaliation attack in the non-fatal shooting of Michael Slater.
The individual, whom police suspect is a drug dealer, was shot in the stomach outside of club Pacha.
Several hours after the crime, police claim five gang members ambushed 30 year old Jason Black and the teen at a Manhattan apartment complex.
Both men were stabbed repeatedly in the chest and face. Black survived the assault, while the unidentified teen succumbed to his wounds.
At the time, police theorized that the back and forth violence was the result of a feud between Jason Black and Tru Life’s brother.
1st degree murder carries a maximum sentence of life in prison under New York law.
If an official or witness is not the victim, the distinction can also be decreed for murders involving multiple parties or tortuous killings.
Tru Life’s last music effort, “Wet ‘em Up,” was heard as a selection on the soundtrack to Grand Theft Auto IV.
At press time, Tru Life could not be reached for comment.

Will.I.Am responds with This Video
The rapper said that it started at an event after the MuchMusic Awards in Canada where Fergie of "The Peas" came up to the blogger and asked why he didn't like their music. Hilton explained it was just the record, but according to Wil.I.Am was "up in her face" and rude to her.
Later, Wil.I.Am encountered Hilton at another club and requested that he not treat the group in such a rude way as he did on his website. But rather than apologize, Hilton said "I don't respect you" to Wil.I.Am, who said "OK. That's cool." But then Hilton, who's Gay, called Wil.I.Am a faggot but even then the lead lyricist for the Black Eyed Peas held his cool and backed off; but an unknown fan didn't and accordind to Wil.I.Am "got all up into him". So it was the fan that assaulted Hilton, not Wil.I.Am; if Wil.I.Am's story is accurate, Hilton lied about the incident.
Hilton didn't stop tweeting. His last posts as of this writing said..
I won't be talking about this any further. It is in the hands of the authorities.22 minutes ago from web
