(Reuters) - Donald Trump faced a new raft of felony charges on Tuesday after a Georgia grand jury used a law developed to take down organized crime gangs to charge the former U.S. president with trying to overturn his 2020 election defeat.

The charges, brought on Monday by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis charge Trump & 18 associates for a scheme intended to reverse his loss to Democrat Joe Biden.

The indictment listed 19 defendants & 41 criminal counts in all. All the defendants were charged with racketeering, which is used to target members of organized crime groups & carries a minimum penalty of 5 years in prison.

Mark Meadows, Trump's former White House chief of staff & lawyers Rudy Giuliani, Jenna Ellis & John Eastman were among those charged.

Trump & the other defendants have until noon Friday, Aug. 25, to surrender voluntarily, rather than face arrest. Willis said she intends to try all 19 defendants together within 6 months.

Trump called the indictment a "witch hunt" & accused Willis of trying to sabotage his presidential comeback bid.

He said he would release a report on Monday on "Presidential Election Fraud" that would exonerate him.

Since his defeat in 2020, Trump has repeatedly made false claims that the election was marred by widespread fraud. Those claims have been rejected by dozens of courts, state reviews & members of his own administration.

In a Jan. 2, 2021, phone call, Trump urged Georgia's top election official, Brad Raffensperger, to "find" enough votes to reverse his narrow loss in the state. Raffensperger declined.

Trump's supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol 4 days later in an unsuccessful attempt to prevent lawmakers from certifying Biden's victory.

Chicago rap star G Herbo has agreed to plead guilty to federal charges that accused him of using information from stolen credit cards to pay for private jets, expensive meals, luxury cars & a stay at a Jamaican villa.

G Herbo, whose real name is Herbert Wright III, signed the agreement Wednesday in the U.S. District Court in Boston, pleading guilty to 1 count of wire fraud & 1 count of lying to federal agents.

Under the deal, Wright faces as much as 20 years in prison, though the sentence could be a lot less. A hearing in the case is scheduled for later this month.

An indictment handed down in late 2020 accused Wright & 5 others of obtaining stolen credit card information from “dark web sites” & other places. They also used fake IDs, driver’s licenses & e-mail accounts in the names of aliases & real businesses to defraud people & companies.

Herbo, grew into something of a hometown hero as a teenager in the early 2010s, helping lead Chicago’s drill music to international prominence alongside fellow rappers & collaborators Chief Keef & Lil Durk.

While Wright has scored gold and platinum plaques &, his rise to fame continues to be hampered by legal issues.

Earlier this month, he was found with a loaded handgun during a traffic stop in the River North neighborhood.

Wright was charged with a misdemeanor count of unlawful use of a weapon after prosecutors denied felony charges, according to an arrest report. He didn’t face additional counts related to the nearly 300 grams of cannabis that was allegedly recovered during the stop in the first block of East Ontario.

He's been charged in a series of criminal cases since 2014, most of them involving drug & gun charges that have been dropped. Most recently, he pleaded guilty in 2019 to a misdemeanor gun charge & was sentenced to 2 years of probation.

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A record verdict was announced Monday for a Fairborn man wrongfully accused of raping several women in the 1990s, awarding 57-year-old Roger ‘Dean’ Gillispie $45 million, the highest settlement in state history.

When he was 24 years old, he was accused of raping 3 women, a crime he says he never had anything to do with. Today, he was declared a wrongfully imprisoned person by the state of Ohio.

“My whole life has been in a courtroom, 20 years in prison & in a courtroom,” said Gillispie. “33 years ago I went to prison for a crime I absolutely had nothing to do with & today we proved that beyond a reasonable doubt, I’m completely innocent.”

In court, the jury found that a former Miami Township Police Detective suppressed exculpatory evidence that led to Gillispie’s conviction for raping multiple women.

The evidence at trial showed that the detective created an unfair lineup of potential suspects, claimed a witness had made an identification when they had not, destroyed evidence showing Gillispie was out of town camping in Kentucky when 2 of the crimes occurred & altered witness’s audio recordings.

“The community was not safe when I went to prison because the person who committed this crime was still out here doing it & continued to do it,” said Gillipsie.

Gillispie was released in 2011 thanks to the Ohio Innocence Project. He spent 20 years of his life behind bars, time he says he will never get back but now, he’s focused on getting justice for other innocent prisoners.

“I’m not the first nor the last guy this is going to happen to, we have to fix this system to prevent this from happening,” said Gillispie.

Since his release, Gillispie now serves on the board of the Ohio Innocence Project & helps other formerly incarcerated people re-enter communities.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa authorities say an 18-year-old sex trafficking victim who pleaded guilty to killing a man she said raped her escaped from a women’s center where she was serving her probation sentence.

Pieper Lewis was seen walking out of the building at the Fresh Start Women’s Center in Des Moines shortly after 6:15 a.m. Friday & at some point that day her GPS monitor was cut off.

A warrant was issued for Lewis’ arrest & the probation report asked for her deferred judgment to be revoked and have her original sentence imposed. She could face up to 20 years in prison.

Prosecutors had called the probation sentence she was given in September merciful for a teen who endured horrible abuse, although some questioned the $150,000 restitution she was ordered to pay. A GoFundMe campaign raised over $560,000 to cover the restitution and pay for her other needs.

Polk County Judge David Porter told Lewis that her probation sentence “was the second chance you asked for. You don’t get a third.”

If Lewis had successfully completed 5 years of closely supervised probation her prison sentence would have been expunged.

Lewis pleaded guilty last year to involuntary manslaughter & willful injury in the June 2020 killing of 37-year-old Zachary Brooks, a married father of 2. Lewis was 15 when she stabbed Brooks more than 30 times in a Des Moines apartment.

Lewis has said that she was trafficked against her will to Brooks for sex multiple times & stabbed him in a fit of rage. Police & prosecutors did not dispute that Lewis was sexually assaulted & trafficked.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A California man who smuggled more than 1,700 wild animals into the United States, including 60 reptiles hidden in his clothing, pleaded guilty Wednesday to federal charges.

Jose Manuel Perez, 30, of Oxnard, entered pleas to 2 counts of smuggling & a charge of wildlife trafficking.

Prosecutors said that from 2016 to this February, Perez & his accomplices used social media to arrange to smuggle animals from Mexico & Hong Kong. Most were reptiles & included Yucatan box turtles, Mexican box turtles, baby crocodiles & Mexican beaded lizards.

It is illegal to import the animals without permits under an international treaty on the trade of endangered species.

Perez paid accomplices a crossing fee to drive animals from Mexico to El Paso, Texas, where he had them shipped to his family’s Ventura County home & resold them to customers throughout the U.S.

He also made some 3 dozen trips to Mexico himself to pick up animals & on Feb. 25 he was arrested while trying to enter the U.S. with 60 reptiles hidden in bags of his clothing. 3 of the reptiles died.

The smuggled reptiles were worth about $739,000.

Perez fled to Tijuana in June while out on bond but was quickly captured & returned to the U.S. He could face up to 20 years in federal prison for each smuggling count when he’s sentenced on Dec. 1.

New York (CNN) Ghislaine Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison Tuesday for carrying out a years-long scheme with her longtime confidante Jeffrey Epstein to groom and sexually abuse underage girls.

Maxwell was also sentenced to five years of supervised release and a $750,000 fine, which her attorney said she is unable to pay. The judge said she will be sent to a federal prison in Danbury, Connecticut.

Maxwell, 60, did not testify in her defense during the trial late last year, which ended with her conviction on five counts, including sex trafficking of a minor. But on Tuesday she spoke in court to the victims shortly before the sentence was handed down.

"Jeffrey Epstein should have been here before all of you," Maxwell said at the podium, her legs shackled. "It is not about Epstein, ultimately. It is for me to be sentenced."

Maxwell, Epstein's former girlfriend, acknowledged that she had been convicted in the sex trafficking scheme but stopped short of taking responsibility.

"I am sorry for the pain that you've experienced," Maxwell said. "I hope my conviction ... brings you closure."

HOUSTON (AP) — Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson has reached an agreement to settle 20 of the 24 civil lawsuits that had been filed by women who accused him of sexual assault and harassment, an attorney for the women said Tuesday.

Watson, who has been accused by massage therapists of harassing, assaulting or touching them during appointments when he was playing for the Houston Texans, could still be suspended if the NFL determines he violated the league’s personal conduct policy.

“Today I announce that all cases against Deshaun Watson, with the exception of four, have settled. We are working through the paperwork related to those settlements,” Houston attorney Tony Buzbee said in a statement. “Once we have done so, those particular cases will be dismissed.”

Buzbee, who represents all 24 women, said the terms of the settlements are “confidential” and that his legal team “won’t comment further on the settlements or those cases.”

The first 22 lawsuits were filed in March and April 2021. The last two lawsuits were filed after HBO’s “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel” aired an interview last month with two of the women who detailed their encounters with Watson.

The settlement also comes after The New York Times reported earlier this month that Watson had booked massage appointments with at least 66 different women over 17 months while he played for the Texans. The report also said that a Texans representative had provided Watson with a nondisclosure agreement that he gave to some of the women to sign.

Last week, Watson said he intended to clear his name and sidestepped any questions about whether he would settle with any of the women.

“I never assaulted anyone,” Watson said June 14 in his first public comments since being introduced by the Browns in March. “I never harassed anyone or I never disrespected anyone. I never forced anyone to do anything.”

In March, two separate Texas grand juries declined to indict Watson on criminal complaints stemming from the allegations.

Cleveland then signed Watson to a fully guaranteed, five-year, $230 million contract in March, convincing the three-time Pro Bowler to waive his no-trade clause and join a team with solid roster.

The Browns had no immediate comment on the settlements.

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said the settlements have “no impact on the collectively bargained disciplinary process.”

And a league official told The Associated Press “settling doesn’t give someone a pass” and indicated a lengthy suspension remains in order. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the investigation hasn’t concluded.

Buzbee said he plans on taking the four unsettled lawsuits to trial, including the first one that was filed by Ashley Solis, who has previously made her name public. In an interview with HBO’s “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel,” Solis said she felt threatened by Watson after their massage session when he told her that she had a career to protect and “I know you don’t want anyone messing with it just like I don’t want anyone messing with mine.”

On August 25, 2001 we lost an amazing singer and actress.

At only 22-years old, Aaliyah was already a superstar. By that time the New York City native, born Aaliyah Dana Haughton, had already released 3 successful albums, "Age Ain't Nothing but a Number," One in a Million" and "Aaliyah."

The projects spawned the hit records "At Your Best (You Are Love)," "Back & Forth," "If Your Girl Only Knew," "4 Page Letter," "Got to Give It Up," "One in a Million," "More than a Woman," "I Care 4 You" "We Need a Resolution" and "Rock the Boat."

At the time of Aaliyah's passing she had just finished filming the music video for "Rock the Boat." She died tragically in a plane crash while heading back to the U.S.

Aaliyah had just began a promising career as an actress, having starred in "Queen of the Damned" and Rome Must Die," alongside the late, great DMX and Jet Li.

After a lengthy delay the singer's music has finally hit streaming services, assuring her legacy will continue to grow.

We miss you Aaliyah. May you rest in Heaven.

Sonovah Hillman Jr. aka Sonovah Junior, is not a typical 8-year-old.

She is currently working on 20 songs & has already released two of them.

“I Hate Zoom,” which is an ode to her deep distaste for virtual school & “TikTok,” which was just released. She writes all her rap lyrics.

"Whatever is on my mind, I just write about it," Hillman said.

What makes this young rapper unlike any others her age is she is the daughter of Earl Simmons, also known as legendary hip-hop artist, DMX. Hillman's father died of a heart attack in early April.

Hillman Jr.'s mother, Sonovah Hillman is raising her daughter in Oakland, California.

“Sometimes she looks just like him depending on the angle you catch her. She has a lot of his traits as far as an artist. Writing is easy for her,” Sonovah Hillman said.

Sonovah Hillman Jr. is a fan of DMX.

“My favorite song of his is ‘Party Up (Up in Here).' He was happy when I told him I wanted to rap,” Hillman Jr. said.

Hillman Jr. had the opportunity to visit a beach in Miami in February 2021, & said it is one of her favorite memories with her dad.

“It was fun. I just miss him & I’m kind of sad we won’t have more memories,” Hillman Jr. said.

Her father’s passion for hip-hop continues to live on in Hillman Jr. as she begins her own journey in the music industry.

“Rapping makes me feel powerful. Someday I want to own a mansion with 15 bedrooms,” Hillman Jr. said.

A posthumous DMX album is in the works & producers have asked Hillman Jr. to collaborate on two songs.

Hillman Jr. will be rapping with her dad even after his death. The release date has not been announced yet.

Dallas rapper Lil Loaded has died at the age of 20.

Ashkan Mehryari, attorney for Lil Loaded (real name Dashawn Robertson), confirmed the rapper's passing in an email to Billboard on Monday night (May 31). He said the death was a result of suicide.

Lil Loaded was known for the viral track "6locc 6a6y" that arrived in 2019, and just last week was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). He had released his latest music through Epic Records.

"dopest fanbase on earth," he'd written on his last post on Instagram on May 27, when he proudly shared the news about "6locc 6a6y" being certified gold.

He started rapping at 18. Before "6locc 6a6y" made its mark -- as of May 31, its official video on YouTube had been viewed close to 29 million times -- he dropped his first song, "B.O.S.," which was a reworking of YNW Melly's "Butter Pecan."

GILCHRIST COUNTY, Fla. – A Florida man who tied up his wife’s lover, held him at gunpoint and cut off his penis with a pair of scissors will serve a 20-year prison sentence for his crime.

Alex Bonilla, 51, entered a plea of no contest last month on charges of kidnapping to inflict bodily harm, burglary while armed, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with a firearm during the July 2019 attack.

He was also sentenced to 10 years of probation.

The Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office said the victim called 911 around 11 a.m. on July 14, 2019 and said Bonilla, who was his neighbor, broke into his home armed with a gun and said that if the victim tried to resist, he’d kill him.

From there, deputies said Bonilla forced the victim into the bedroom and tied him up then “forcefully cut off the victim’s penis with a pair of scissors.”

Records show Bonilla took the severed appendage and ran off across the street to his own home.

Deputies never revealed a motive for the crime but said Bonilla had discovered the victim having sex with his wife about two months prior.

Court records show several friends and relatives of Bonilla wrote to a county judge, asking for leniency before the sentencing.

Bonilla’s son wrote that he’d like his father back home to contribute to the household financially and help his younger sister learn to read.

CINCINNATI, Ohio (AP) — Customs authorities in Ohio say they intercepted a shipment of cereal earlier this month with a special frosting — cocaine.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Cincinnati reported finding 44 pounds (20 kilograms) of cocaine-coated cornflakes that had been shipped from South America to a Hong Kong home.

Officials said a narcotics detection dog named Bico was checking out incoming freight from Peru on Feb. 13 when he alerted officers to the package. Officers found that the cereal contained white powder and the flakes were coated with a grayish substance. Both tested positive for cocaine.

Cincinnati Port Director Richard Gillespie said smugglers will try to hide narcotics in anything imaginable but vowed that inspectors will “use their training, intuition, and strategic skills” to stop such shipments.

Video After The Jump

Boosie came through for yet another VladTV interview, and this time around he started out by reacting to C-Murder not being one of the 143 people Donald Trump pardoned. Vlad then explained that since C-Murder's case is under the state, only the Governor of Louisiana can pardon him.
