J. Cole pays tribute to Michael Brown on his new song entitled "Be Free."

18-year old Brown was unarmed when he was gunned down by a Ferguson, Missouri police officer on Saturday, August 9. The shooting angered the community, resulting in protests, riots and police confrontations.

The unidentified officer is currently on paid administrative leave pending an FBI investigation.

Rest in Peace to Michael Brown and to every young black man murdered in America, whether by the hands of white or black. I pray that one day the world will be filled with peace and rid of injustice. Only then will we all Be Free - Cole

After 15 years, we’re doing it again,” he said. “So in 2012, we decided that we’re going to start the new label, called Chopped Not Slopped Entertainment. And what it basically is is it’s giving the seal and approval of chopped ‘n screwed music, saying that if it didn’t come from this label, it’s not official. It’s certified. Video After The Jump

The family of Michael Taylor are still trying to come to grips with his senseless murder last week in New Orleans. As we previously reported, the 16-year old made headlines in January 2011 when his uncle, Lamoine Ward, videotaped himself whipping Taylor for putting gang related information on his Facebook wall. Ward then posted the video online where it went viral almost overnight.

In a new interview with New Orleans television station WDSU, the uncle says he did it out of love and fear for what could happen to his family.

"It was love and I wanted to really show that he's not a gang member. I was not only going on his [Facebook] walls, I was searching his friend's walls also," Lamoine said. "So, I was frightened about what could happen to my family. I was led by the right spirit when I did it, but now the enemy is twisting it in my head like I did something wrong. Maybe I draw some extra attention to him to make him feel like he need to prove to these people that he's not soft."

Asked if he had any regrets about posting the video, Lamoine told WDSU he only had one.

"I regret maybe not being a part of his life a little bit more after the video," he said.

After the video hit the net, Taylor was reportedly bullied and made fun of at school. His mother, Kimberly Ward, said her son was a good kid who may have simply been trying to fit in with the wrong crowd.

"I'm hurt," she said through tears. "I'm not angry but I'm hurt. My boy was my world. But at the same time I'm blessed that if my child's death can save another child's life and another mother [not] have to go through what I feel, then I feel alright."

She added that parent's shouldn't be afraid to check their children's Facebook pages and most of all, "Don't be a friend, be a parent."

Video After The Jump

A 16-year old Louisiana teen who was seen by millions of online viewers being whipped by his uncle because of online gang activity was found murdered in New Orleans last week.

Michael Taylor had been posting messages on his Facebook page earlier this year when his uncle found out about it. To make an example out of the youth, the uncle made a video of himself whipping the teen with a belt, while telling him to admit to the camera that the gang ties he had been bragging about were fake.

"Y'all parents all these senseless f*cking crimes... all this gangbang sh*t. This my f*cking nephew right here," the uncle says in the video, pointing at Michael. "He aint no gangbanger, we don't come from that sh*t."

"All that's fake," Michael said, before his uncle whipped him.

When the video hit the internet in January 2011 most people applauded the uncle for his actions. As it turns out the video did nothing to prevent Michael from meeting a tragic fate.

BlackAmericaWeb.com is reporting that the teen's mom had been keeping close tabs on him, making him stay within eyesight whenever he went outside. On the night he was killed he received a text message and went outside to talk. Not too long afterwards his mother, Kimberly Ward, said her daughter received a text message saying Michael had been shot and killed.

"I came home and saw my son on the ground," Ward said.

Police say they have no suspects or motives in the December 7th shooting, but witnesses said they saw two men approach Michael and open fire, hitting him multiple times in the torso.

Stacey Patton, who runs the website SpareTheKids.com said she wasn't surprised to hear about Michael's murder after seeing the video of him being whipped.

"I am not surprised to hear that this young man's life has ended violently. When I saw the video, I kept thinking that by beating this youth, the uncle was setting him up for some kind of tragedy, either prison or an early grave," she said. "I don’t understand why more people don't make the connection between how children are dealt with at home and the larger societal impact. Studies show that maltreated youth make up a disproportionate number of youth involved in school and gang violence. Violent parental discipline increases the risk that a child will act violently later in life. The use of violent discipline teaches children that violence is an appropriate means of shaping behavior and solving problems. Physically disciplining a child has no positive impact for the child, that child's relationship with the parents, or the larger community."

Video After The Jump

Michael Vick knows a lot about second chances, so it was fitting he gave his first ever commencement speech at a high school for troubled teens.

The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback's message was clear to the 450 graduating students from Camelot Academy in Philadelphia. "I lost my freedom. I lost my money and I lost my family. All because of irrational decisions and using poor judgement. Think before you speak, think before you act and think before you make decisions in life," Vick told them.

Camelot’s schools are either for over-age students who have fallen at least two grades behind or have dropped out, or for students who have been expelled for behavioral issues from other schools.

Vick surprised two of the students by giving them $5000 scholarships.

"I was blessed and God gave me a second chance, the world gave me a second chance, the city of Philadelphia gave me a second chance," Vick said. "That's what this is all about. These kids had people around who believed in them and knew they could come out of their situations and make it a positive."

President Obama recently called Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie to congratulate him on the teams success this year, and for giving Michael Vick a second chance.

The call was enough to once again rile up those who feel like Vick hasn’t suffered enough for his role in a dog fighting ring. Never mind the fact that Vick served 19 months in prison, became a national disgrace and lost millions of dollars for his transgression.

Some people want the man to pay with his life, Tucker Carlson is one of those people.

Carlson is guest hosting Fox News’ ‘Hannity’ show this week. During a discussion about Obama’s call to Lurie, Carlson criticized the President for supporting Vick getting a second chance and said the football player should have been put to death for his crime.

"I'm a Christian, I've made mistakes myself, I believe fervently in second chances, but Michael Vick killed dogs, and he did [it] in a heartless and cruel way," Carlson said. "And I think personally he should have been executed for that. He wasn't. But the idea that the President of the United States would be getting behind someone who murdered dogs [is] kind of beyond the pale."

What's your take on Carlson's comments? Do you think Fox should fire him? Or was what he said ok in your opinion?

You would have thought they were giving away free money judging by the long lines outside of Houston stores Thursday (December 23).

Instead people had camped out overnight to try and cop a pair of the new Air Jordan “Cool Greys.

Police had to be called out to several locations as crowds started to get unruly. Scuffles broke out and arguments ensued as stores quickly sold out.

One man was so desperate for a pair he hid in a trash can inside a Houston mall, hoping to be the first in line.

I was in a trash can for about an hour in the mall, trying to be the first one,” said Jumarcus Bingham. “This is the first time they’re coming back out in ten years.”

By the time Bingham got inside the store they had already sold out of his size.

Not to be deterred, Bingham made a mad dash over to another mall and finally scored a pair. But only after paying a stranger $400 for shoes that retail for $180.

It was a nice come up for the stranger, but Jumarcus was happy and didn’t care if people thought he was crazy.

They probably do [think I’m crazy], I mean I had to get em, I support Jordans,” he said.

How far would you have been willing to go to grab a pair?

By all accounts Michael Vick has been a model citizen since being released from federal prison in May 2009 after serving 19 months for dog fighting.

With his remarkable comeback on the football field happening before our eyes, Vick is still trying to make things right off the field.

He helps mentor kids about the harm dog fighting causes. He also spends a lot of his free time working with The Human Society.

As part of his rehabilitation process Vick says he would like to own a dog again.

“I would love to get another dog again in the future. I think it would be a big step in the rehabilitation process for me,” Vick told TheGrio.com. “I think just to have a pet in my household and to show people that I genuinely care, and my love, and my passion for animals.”

Prior to being convicted of dog fighting Vick was one of the nation’s most popular athletes. His # 7 jerseys were big sellers, he had big endorsement deals with Nike and Upper Deck, and a $100 million dollar contract with the Atlanta Falcons. He lost all of that and more. Vick became one of the most hated people on the planet.

He still struggles to come up with answers for why he did it. He thinks it could be a cultural thing.

I hate to use our culture as an excuse, but it is what it is and that’s what happened and that’s the way I thought about it growing up. This is just the way I was brought up. Nobody ever told me that it wasn't right,” he said.

Mike says he’s learned from his mistakes and is a “better person” now. He credits God with helping him turn his life around and hopes people will give him a second chance.

Do you think Vick has reached a point where it would be ok for him to own a dog again?

Who is the world's highest earning celebrity? Which power couple dominates the entertainment world? What pop star commands the most searches on the Internet? The new Guinness World Records 2011 edition out now reveals all this and more in its celebrity-filled pages. As one of the most talked about pop stars in recent memory, it should come as no surprise that Lady Gaga earned two records for the new book – "Most Searched-For Female" on Google and "Most Weeks On UK Chart In Any Year" with an astounding 154 weeks. Gaga shares her place in the new book alongside two of music's superstars – Jay-Z and Beyonce. Named the year's biggest "Power Couple", Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter and Beyonce Knowles earned an astounding $122 million through June 2009. Two celebrities this year making headlines for their high profile personal lives also made the book. Lindsey Lohan, takes the dubious honor as "Most Infamous Female Celebrity" thanks to her run-ins with the law and the unfortunate performances of her latest movies and Tiger Woods, who ruled the tabloids for his extramarital affairs, didn't see an impact on his earnings yet as he assumes his place as the "Most Powerful Sports Star". The golf phenom raked in an impressive $103 million and topped the 2010 BusinessWeek Sports Power 100 list. Miley Cyrus, a celebrity who has toed the line between controversy and a thriving career success, also enters into the book as the "Most Charted Teenager". The singer/actor, scored her 29th US Hot 100 chart entry on November 7, 2009 with "Party in the USA". "Where else would Sarah Palin be beaten by Lady Gaga than in the Guinness World Records book! Gaga – who takes over from Palin as the most searched for female on the internet – is just one of the new big names to make it into the Guinness World Records book this year. She joins a stellar cast including Lindsay Lohan, A-Rod, Jay-Z and Beyonce, Brangelina, the Khardashians, and so on, in our most celeb-packed edition yet. These recession-proof stars guarantee to bring a bit of glamour to our book. Their artistic endeavors – and their influence over the public are indisputable," said Craig Glenday, Editor-In-Chief, Guinness World Records. Although Twilight fans may take sides on Team Jacob or Team Edward one thing they can agree upon is that their favorite movie has made into the Guinness World Records book. In November 2009, the Twilight sequel New Moon eclipsed The Dark Knight to achieve the "Highest Opening Day Gross" of $72.7 million. In tribute to the "King of Pop", the new Guinness World Records book features a special page devoted to Michael Jackson. The untimely death of MJ made the entertainer the "Most Searched-For Male" on the web and earned him several posthumous records reinforcing his spot at the top of the entertainment world. MJ, a fan of the Guinness World Records book, is a multiple record holder receiving eight over his lifetime for his chart achievements, album sales, earnings and charity donations. Lindsay Lohan is newly liberated from rehab and ready to get her career back on track we hope. Paparazzi caught up with her as she went to visit her probation officer Friday (August 27) at the Santa Monica Courthouse. Linds chose to wear short cut off jeans, a sheer t-shirt with no bra and a flannel shirt she barely bothered to keep closed. Later she is seen, even more relaxed as she dumps the flannel shirt completely and lets it all hang out while getting gas for her Maserati.

One of music's biggest icons would like to duet with today's biggest pop sensation, for what could be a huge hit if done right. Janet Jackson reveals in an interview with UK's Metro that she wouldn't mind putting out a record with Lady Gaga. "What I love about Gaga is her story, where she came from," Janet told Metro's Anne Lee. Michael Jackson's little sister says she knew Gaga before the fame and is happy for her. "Before she made it, before anyone knew who she was, I knew who she was and, to see her finally make it, I was so happy. If we were to work together that would be cool." It seems like everyone wants to collaborate with Gaga these days. twitter-2a.png

For a hot minute, Houston rapper Mike Jones was everywhere. Dude was gimmicky, repeating his name throughout songs and giving out his real cell number. But people overlooked that because he had a bonafied hit early on with "Still Tippin", a collaboration with Slim Thug and Pall Wall. At that time, Mike was with Michal "5000" Watts at Swishahouse where he dropped the album 'Who Is Mike Jones?'. Seeing an opportunity to grab a bigger piece of the pie, Mike formed Ice Age Entertainment and dropped the mostly ignored album 'The Voice'. In addition to waning popularity, Mike was running into trouble with other rappers locally in Houston. At the 2008 Ozone Awards, held in Houston, he got punched in the nose by Trae The Truth for referring to himself as the "President Of Houston", even though he never repped the city according to Trae. Ozone caught up with Pall Wall recently and asked him just what the hell happened to Mike. Seems, Mike wasn't one of Paul's favorite people and he let that be known. "Ever since he left Swishahouse I haven’t really kept track of him. I really didn’t know him too well before he came to Swishahouse. I’d say he dug his own grave. He lied to a lot of people, he turned his back on a lot of people, and he burned a lot of bridges. I don’t want to kick a dog while he’s down and I don’t wanna just talk shit about him, but I think a lot of people were happy when [Trae] punched him and knocked him out. But at the same time, a lot of people were mad at Trae too. It’s not like Mike Jones is the gangsta of the year, so in my opinion, you don’t really get points for beating up Mike Jones. Some people say it was a publicity stunt on Trae’s part, but I disagree with that totally because I know Trae and he doesn’t really do publicity stunts like that. If Trae feels disrespected, he’s going to address it. I think that’s what happened. If somebody disrespects you, [punching them] is not always the answer, but it’s definitely sometimes the answer. So I don’t feel like Trae was wrong in any form or fashion. Trae doesn’t do publicity stunts. But like I said, Mike Jones burned his bridge with a lot of people, so he probably had a knock out coming from somewhere at some time anyway. I’m positive of that." Well, Damn!! Chris Brown may be hitting his musical stride again. Notching Greatest Gainer/Airplay honors for a second straight week, the singer is this close to notching a top 10 hit on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart with "Deuces." The breakup song-featuring Tyga and Kevin McCall-moves 15-11 in its sixth week on the chart. Released to iTunes June 29 along with another new Brown song, "No B.S.," "Deuces" moves 60-59 on the Digital Songs chart. Up 11% in digital sales, the song has sold 132,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan. "Deuces" also climbs 67-56 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking the singer's return to that tally. Brown last appeared on the Hot 100 last February when "I Can Transform Ya" featuring Lil Wayne and Swizz Beatz ended its tenure, peaking at No. 20. "Transform" peaked at No. 11 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. The track was the lead single from Brown's third album, "Graffiti," which has sold 316,000. The "Deuces" momentum follows Brown's emotional tribute to Michael Jackson during the BET Awards in June. While singing "Man in the Mirror," the singer broke down, prompting criticism that the meltdown was staged. Without addressing the detractors, Brown has stayed busy recording and tweeting about new music. He recently polished off a remix of Nicki Minaj's "Your Love" and is featured on a new Twista track, "Make a Movie." Among the top mainstream R&B radio stations spinning "Deuces" in heavy rotation are KBFB Dallas, WHTD Detroit, KKDA Dallas and WPEG Charlotte, N.C., whose OM/PD Terri Avery says positive audience reaction to Brown at the BET Awards has nothing to do with the song's growing success. "The track, the lyrics . . . it's just a good song." Brown will next appear in the film "Takers," out Aug. 27. There's no official word from Jive as to when his fourth album will be released. The singer has tweeted that his next CD may arrive in 2011 or sooner, possibly preceded by another mixtape, "In My Zone 2." Source: Billboard twitter-2a.png

Iconic singer/actress Janet Jackson has been named the new face of Blackglama's "What Becomes A Legend Most?" ad campaign.

Blackglama released a statement on their website announcing Janet's addition to the team.

Janet Jackson joins a roster of some of the world's most legendary entertainers who have starred in the popular Blackglama "What Becomes A Legend Most?" campaign. Since the campaign's inception four decades ago, Blackglama legends have included Sophia Loren, Lauren Bacall, Marlene Dietrich, Diana Ross, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Lena Horne and Liza Minnelli.

"For decades, Blackglama has represented the finest, most exclusive mink in the world," says Joe Morelli, CEO of Blackglama. "Throughout it's illustrious history, Blackglama has remained a dynamic and powerful player in the fashion industry. Much like Blackglama, Janet Jackson has occupied a similar position in her respective industry. Janet is an icon in the world of music and entertainment, a true legend. She represents everything that this storied campaign embodies. Janet is to entertainment what Blackglama is to luxury."

Leave to the folks over at PETA (People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals) to try to throw dirt on Janet's new gig.

PETA Spokeswoman Amanda Schinke says, "It's amazing what celebrities will do when their careers are on a downslide, but we didn't think that Janet was this desperate."

"Surely she knows enough about suffering and unjustified death to recognize that both occur in the production of a fur coat. We are asking her to think again and to donate these stolen skins to be used as bedding for animals orphaned by other human-caused disasters, such as loss of habitat."

Damn PETA, let the woman handle her business.

The Houston rap duo of Paul Wall aka 'The People's Champ' and Chamillionaire 'The Mixtape Messiah' have put in a long 11 year grind to reach the place they're at in their careers.

The two friends from high school formed the group, The Color Changin' Click and began to grow a large southern audience through their mixtapes and album 'Get Ya Mind Correct'.

The friendship soured at one point and the two parted ways only to come back together recently.

Paul and Cham sat down with Hard Knock TV and talked about coming up in the game, being a mixed race group

"Major labels would get excited about something like that [a mixed race rap group] cause they'd see some kind of gimmick," Cham says. "But that's what makes us authentic because it was more natural. A lot of people didn't even know Paul was white at first. They used to hear the freestyles and didn't know."

Paul said that a lot of people mistook him for being hispanic or Louisiana Creole in the beginning.

Like with any other group, Paul and Cham had to fight to get that initial respect.

"I think at the time [the beginning] maybe it might have been like there were a whole bunch of people already established and we were just the two new guys. So looking at us they were like 'what is this coming into this new situation?' Cham explains. "Then as time progressed we started to earn our respect."

Paul did remember one time when race was an issue early in their careers..

"We used to do a lot of shows in Pensacola, Roy Jones Jr [boxer] had a club, 'Star 69'. We were first coming up we did a show there, the show was sold out," Paul tells Hard Knock. "I went to the bar to get something to drink and I overheard someone next to me say 'when Paul Wall coming on stage?' And I just leaned over and said 'yeah wassup man I'm bout to go on in about 20 minutes. And he's looking at me like I was crazy. He was like 'why you talking to me?' 'Nah you just said Paul Wall and I'm Paul Wall' and he was just puzzled like 'nah nah'. Then later on after the show he came up and was just laughing and i said 'what's up?'. He said 'mam I'm just torn between two worlds cause I hate white people with a passion, I hate crackers, but you're my favorite rapper so I don't know if I should love you or hate you. Damn I just gotta love you cause I love your music'".

Paul Wall's new cd 'Heart Of A Champion' is in stores now so go cop that.
