ATLANTA (TND) — A Democratic state senator in Georgia called Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas an "Uncle Tom" this week while arguing the longtime justice doesn't deserve a monument at the state capitol.

"I know it's very, very sensitive to talk about race in this body," Democratic Sen. Emanuel Jones said on the floor of the General Assembly Tuesday. "But anytime that we have a resolution -- legislation -- proposing to place a statue of Clarence Thomas on this grounds, we cannot avoid that conversation, so I'm not going to avoid it either."

In the Black community, we have an expression," Jones continued. "And I don't want to use this label too deeply here because I'm just trying to tell you what we have in African American communities when we talk about a person of color that goes back historically to days of slavery & that person betraying his own community. We have a term in the black community. That term that we use is called 'Uncle Tom.'"

Jones noted that he "couldn't help but to think about that term" during the consideration of S.B. 69, a bill seeking to add a statue of Thomas to the state capitol, arguing Thomas's policies, practices, decisions & votes "seek to subvert, some may even say suppress the achievements & accomplishments of people of color."

Jones went on to admit that he doesn't "really know the origin of Uncle Tom," but said it tells a story of a person, "who back during the days of slavery sold his soul to the slave masters."

BOCA RATON, Fla. (CBS12) — A woman made an unusual request during a Planning & Zoning Board meeting in Boca Raton on Thursday night.

It happened after a presentation related to a motion to approve an ordinance to amend city code for the bulk storage of flammable liquids.

The board chairman asked the audience if anyone had any questions.

The woman stood up, raised her hand & walked to the microphone. An elderly man with a cane walked behind her to the podium.

Once there, she identified herself as Ashley Cream.

The woman gave some numbers about how she believes Florida had the largest per capita population of "Sugar Daddies" in the US, with Miami, Palm Beach &  Boca with the highest concentration of "these aged benefactors."

The woman said they're helpful to the economy.

"Sugar Daddies, both gay & straight, & yes, even Sugar Mommies, are responsible for college educations, cars, homes, rents, jets & the occasional body enhancement."

The woman asked the board to decree a "Sugar Daddy and Mommy Appreciation Day" on March 10.

"That's a city council issue," responded Planning & Zoning Board chair, Arnold Sevell.

The woman & her elderly guest left the podium. She later wheeled him out of the chambers in a wheelchair.

In a speech to educators in Chicago on Tuesday, Vice President Harris decried the July 4 mass shooting in Highland Park, Illinois & renewed the call for an assault weapons ban.

A 7th person died in the aftermath of the parade shooting, & the suspect, Robert E. Crimo III, has been charged with 7 counts of first degree murder.

The local prosecutor has promised that dozens more charges would be sought.

“I don’t need to tell NEA (National Education Association) we need to end this horror,” Harris said at the NEA’s annual meeting. “We need to stop this violence.”

Harris pointed to the bipartisan gun safety legislation recently signed by President Joe Biden, but said the country needs to do more. And she called on Congress to act.

“Congress needs to have the courage to act & renew the assault weapons ban,” she said. Harris also called on Congress to repeal the liability shield that prevents gun manufacturers from being sued for damage caused by their products.

“So let’s talk about what an assault weapon is designed to do,” Harris said.

“An assault weapon is designed to kill a lot of human beings quickly. There is no reason that we have weapons of war on the streets of America,” she said.

The vice president added: “We need reasonable gun safety laws.”

U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski said Friday that Donald Trump should resign the presidency immediately & that if the Republican Party cannot separate itself from Trump, she isn’t certain she has a future with the party.

“I want him to resign. I want him out. He has caused enough damage,” Murkowski, R-Alaska, said during an interview from her small Capitol office.

“I think he should leave. He said he’s not going to show up. He’s not going to appear at the at the inauguration. He hasn’t been focused on what is going on with COVID. He’s either been golfing or he’s been inside the Oval Office fuming & throwing every single person who has been loyal & faithful to him under the bus, starting with the vice president. He doesn’t want to stay there. He only wants to stay there for the title. He only wants to stay there for his ego. He needs to get out. He needs to do the good thing, but I don’t think he’s capable of doing a good thing,” she said.

Murkowski said that while “there may have been many, many, many, many good Americans who came to Washington, D.C., because they felt strongly in support of this president,” Trump incited them to storm the Capitol after a speech near the Washington Monument.

Even before Election Day, the president refused to say whether he would accept the election results, Murkowski said & then tried to overturn the results.

“I will attribute it to the president, who said, even after his vice president told him that morning, ‘I do not have the constitutional authority to do what you have asked me to do. I cannot do it. I have to protect & uphold the Constitution.’ Even after the vice president told President Trump that, he still told his supporters to fight. How are they supposed to take that? It’s an order from the president. And so that’s what they did. They came up & they fought & people were harmed, & injured & died,” Murkowski said. #lisamurkowski #senator #republican #alaska #lisamurkowskidonaldtrumpresign #resign #stepdown #trump #donaldtrump #presidenttrump #infighting #andsoitbegins #enoughisenough #bowoutgracefully #trumpsupports #uscapitol #washingtondc #nancypelosi #democrat #riots #anarchy #sedition #insurrection #thugs #impeach #impeachment #joebiden #presidentbiden #domesticterrorism #proudboys #qanon #extremists

Video After The Jump

WASHINGTON (AP) — Joe Biden said Wednesday that President Donald Trump was the country’s “first” racist president.

The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee’s comments came during a virtual town hall organized by the Service Employees International Union. When a questioner complained of racism surrounding the coronavirus outbreak and mentioned the president referring to it as the “China virus,” Biden responded by blasting Trump and “his spread of racism.”

“The way he deals with people based on the color of their skin, their national origin, where they’re from, is absolutely sickening,” the former vice president said. “No sitting president has ever done this. Never, never, never. No Republican president has done this. No Democratic president. We’ve had racists, and they’ve existed. They’ve tried to get elected president. He’s the first one that has.”

Biden also suggested that Trump is using race “as a wedge” to distract from his mishandling of the pandemic.

Many presidents — including the nation’s first, George Washington — owned slaves.

President Woodrow Wilson, the country’s 28th president, is having his name removed from Princeton University’s public policy school after recent protests against institutional racism and police brutality. Wilson, who served in the early 20th century, supported segregation and imposed it on several federal agencies.

At a White House briefing later Wednesday, Trump responded to a question about Biden’s comments by pointing to his administration’s efforts passing criminal justice reform legislation and expanding opportunity zones, as well as the low unemployment numbers for minority groups before the coronavirus outbreak.

“I’ve done more for Black Americans than anybody with the possible of exception of Abraham Lincoln,” the president said. “Nobody has even been close.”

Katrina Pierson, a senior adviser for Trump’s reelection campaign, said in a statement that ”no one should take lectures on racial justice from Joe Biden.”

Memes After The Jump

The beef between Meek Mill and The Game continues to escalate. The two exchanged disses on Instagram all day Saturday, September 17.

Game continued to call Meek a rat for allegedly implicating him in the June robbery of Sean Kingston's $300,000 chain at the Penthouse Nightclub & Dayclub in West Hollywood.

The "One Blood" rapper posted a photo of missed phone calls from Meek and said there wouldn't be any talking, just scrapping.

12352350078?profile=original

"Don't call my phone tryna back out this ass whoopin.... & don't lie & tell yo followers you ain't hit my jack.... We ain't got shit else to talk about... & this ain't bout nobody but ME & YOU," Game captioned the photo. "Don't hide or run when you see me Meesha.... You know you don't want & that's why you back peddling.... #CatchThisFade for puttin my name into an investigation & having detectives knockin on doors...... You know & I know you snitched !!!!!"

Game also posted several disparaging memes and photos of Meek.

12352351681?profile=original

Meek responded by saying Game has been jealous of him and hates his success. He posted a text message he sent to the Compton rapper, indicating he was ready for war.

"You doing all this clown shit about ya album coming out after I used to hit you about ya family," Meek wrote. "It's only right that you get get put in ya place. I'm not doing no rapping and I don't fight! Catch me and traffic and let's play! U on some Hollywood fagit shit Fam."

12352351883?profile=original

At one point during the back and forth exchanges Meek seemed to want to distance himself from it, citing his desire to be a role model to the youth.

“And I’m sorry for the weirdo entertainment. But Fam just jumped out of pocket. I’m just hustling feeding my family," he captioned a now deleted IG post. "Sh*t is really embarrassing. And I can’t keep performing tryna impress the internet because the moment sh*t go bad Ima look like a fool! @losangelesconfidential you outta pocket and you not repping for “niggas right” to sell some records!” Meek Mill wrote in the caption of a video posted on his Instagram page. IM FRESH FROM MY LIL CUZ FUNERAL I CANT KEEP ACTING LIKE MY PEOPLE AINT DYING TO THESE STREETS! I WOULDA PULLED UP ANYTIME ANY PLACE BUT YOU CHOSE TO GO ON STAGE AND SAY YOU WANNA RUMBLE!"

Meek has deleted most of the content he posted on Instagram, but you can peep some screen shots below.

NY Daily News Reports Aubrey O'Day really put her foot in her mouth this time. The former Danity Kane member dug herself into a hole Monday night in a heated debate on Fox News' "The Sean Hannity Show" when the 25-year-old singer spewed out claims that both Adolf Hitler and Fidel Castro were "brilliant" men. "As someone who has met [Castro]... I met him and worked with him while I was in Cuba. I'm not defending his behavior, but in many instances, but I do have to say, I will 100% agree, he's an incredibly brilliant man, he has outlived tons of our Presidents," O'Day said. When Hannity gave the pop singer a second chance to clarify her point, O'Day reiterated, "I'm sure many murderers are brilliant people." "Was Hitler a brilliant man?" Hannity asked. "I don't condone Hitler one ounce, but yes, he was a brilliant man," she said. "He ran a country and convinced everyone of horrible things." In response, Hannity shook his head and cut to Greta Van Susteren. In an effort to save what dignity she has left, O'Day issued a statement to TMZ. "Murderers and dictators generally are some of the smartest people out there - they just use their brain power for evil purposes. I don't condone any of their evil behavior, but I was asked about their intellectual firepower... and in my opinion you can't have a low IQ and wreck [sic] that much havoc on the world," O'Day said. "What Hitler succeeded in doing, was deplorable... And I hope we never see such an abusive use of power again." Still, despite such qualifiers, some members of the Jewish community find the singer's statements unforgivable. Rabbi Chaim Cunin of Chabad House told TMZ, "When a woman like her uses public airwaves, with access to millions of wonderful citizens of America, and calls some of the most despicable, unspeakable hatemongers of history brilliant, then something is lacking with her intelligence. This is a constant reminder of how careful we need to be when we talk about hate, because hatred is always present." He added, "We need to make sure we are careful and that hatred doesn't rear its ugly head. I'd like for her to think about some older Holocaust survivor having that comment beamed into their home while they are enjoying the freedom that this beautiful country provides and having to listen to her disgusting comments."

Fox News pundit Glenn Beck (r.) called President Obama a 'racist' during a 'Fox and Friends' morning show on Tuesday. NYDailyNews Reports Fox News Channel executives are distancing themselves from controversial — and popular — host Glenn Beck, who Tuesday morning branded President Obama a "racist." The combustable Beck ignited a firestorm when, during a Tuesday morning appearance on FNC's freewheeling "Fox and Friends," he said the President's reaction to the Henry Louis Gates Jr. arrest situation in Cambridge, Mass., suggested a "deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture." To his credit, "Fox & Friends" co-host Brian Kilmeade — who recently had to apologize for comments he made about racial issues — immediately responded, saying that most of the faces people see of the Obama administration are white, such as spokesman Robert Gibbs or chief of staff Rahm Emanuel. "I'm not saying he doesn't like white people. I'm saying he has a problem," Beck responded. "This guy is, I believe, a racist." Beck did not address the point further in his own show on FNC Tuesday night. A Fox representative said there was no comment from Beck. However, Fox executives made it clear that although they encourage free speech, the "racist" remark was Beck's and his alone. "During Fox & Friends" [Tuesday] morning, Glenn Beck expressed a personal opinion which represented his own views, not those of the Fox News Channel," Bill Shine, senior vice president of programming for Fox News said in a statement. "And as with all commentators in the cable news arena, he is given the freedom to express his opinions." Reaction to Beck's comments on the Daily News Web site ranged from outright approval to dismissing them as coming from a conservative white commentator trying to drum up an audience. "Glenn Beck is another example of showboating, mostly male, mostly conservative radio and TV commentators who don't speak from fact but rather from their well-considered opinion of how much what they say will rile up their fan base and make them more famous and make them more money," wrote one reader. "Beck just exposed himself as a racist to the whole world," wrote another. "Half of President Obama's family is white. I hardly think he hates white people. It is clear that Beck is insecure with himself as a white man if all he sees is color in people and not just a person. Many people still need to grow up." Beck's comments on Obama came out of a discussion another President might have reacted to when asked about the Gates case. Gates, a renowned Harvard professor was arrested July 16 on disorderly-conduct charges by Cambridge police who had responded to his home after a report of a break-in in progress. Gates and the police disagree on what happened next. The charges were dropped. But the case took on an elevated level of scruitiny after the President, on prime-time television, said the police acted "stupidly." After realizing he had inflamed the discussion, Obama backtracked and then invited Gates and the arresting officer, Sgt. James Crowley, to the White House for a beer. The Gates-Crowley incident — heightened by the Obama comment — has raised the discussion of racial relations in the United States to a larger level. Gates, who said he hopes to use his experience as part of a study of racial profiling for a PBS documentary, said he was pleased the President wanted to use the incident to create a teachable moment. "If my experience leads to the lessening of the occurrence of racial profiling, then I would find that enormously gratifying," Gates said in a statement posted at Theroot.com. "Because, in the end, this is not about me at all; it is about the creation of a society in which 'equal justice before law' is a lived reality."

Man Calls 911 Over Fast Food Order from ChasinDatPaper on Vimeo.

CLACKAMAS, Ore. - A man upset at the way McDonald's employees handled his order was charged after allegedly calling 911 repeatedly on Friday to report the restaurant had robbed him, authorities said. Jeremy Lloyd Martin, 23, was charged with improper use of the 911 service, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office said. He spent a night in jail over the incident. According to a tape of the 911 calls released by Clackamas County 911, a man initially told a dispatcher that he was at the McDonald's near the intersection of Southeast Sunnyside Road and Southeast 82nd Avenue and needed help. The man said he had paid $10 in the drive-thru but only received a single burger and a fry before he was told to pull around. "Sir, this is not a police matter," the dispatcher told him. "You need to take it up with the manager of the McDonald's." But a person who identified himself as Martin called back demanding that dispatchers send a police officer to the scene and threatening to sue. "This is a 911 emergency," the person said. "I got robbed for eight dollars." "Sir, 911 is life-and-death only," the dispatcher said. "If you do continue calling 911 you will be arrested for misuse." "Well, arrest me at (expletive) 82nd and Sunnyside Road," the caller responded. "Please send a cop right now. I swear to God all my life..." Eventually an officer arrived after a person who identified himself as Martin had called 911 again. A McDonald's employee also called 911 to report that three men were screaming at her and trying to fight. The dispatcher told her to keep the doors locked and not to approach the drive-thru. Another witness told 911 the men were harassing employees. On Saturday, Martin told KATU he stood by his actions. "I was very upset that they tried to charge me for food I had already paid for," he said. Martin said he has worked on the other side of the drive-thru window as an assistant manager at a competing fast food restaurant and has called 911 over disputes involving customers but was never before arrested. "For me to end up going to jail over a $10 order, that's just ridiculous," he said. Source: WWW.2NEWS
