jail (23)

ATLANTA (ABC7) -- A man who died in a bedbug-infested cell in a Georgia jail's psychiatric wing "died due to severe neglect," according to an independent autopsy released Monday by lawyers for his family.

Lashawn Thompson, 35, died in September, 3 months after he was booked into the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta. Public outrage over his death spread last month after a lawyer for his family, Michael Harper, released photos of Thompson's face & body covered in insects.

The independent autopsy report lists the cause of death as "Complications due to Severe Neglect," with "Untreated Decompensated Schizophrenia" identified as a contributing cause.

A combination of dehydration, rapid weight loss & malnutrition, complicated by untreated decompensated schizophrenia led to a fatal cardiac arrythmia, the report says. Because he did not receive necessary medical care or adequate food, water & shelter, his manner of death is homicide.

An earlier report from the Fulton County medical examiner's office found no obvious signs of trauma on Thompson's body but noted a "severe bed bug infestation." It lists his cause of death as "undetermined."

The new autopsy "confirms that this is one of the most deplorable in-custody deaths in the history of America," said prominent civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who represents the family.

Thompson had lost 32 pounds, or about 18% of his body weight, during his 3 months at the Fulton County Jail & showed evidence of dehydration, the report says. In addition to an "innumerable number of insects" all over his body, his hands, feet, fingernails & toenails were filthy, it says.

Medical records from the jail indicate that Thompson received his last dose of the medications he'd been prescribed for his mental health issues 32 days before his death.

The independent autopsy was paid for by the Autopsy Initiative of the Know Your Rights Camp, an initiative started by former NFL star & activist Colin Kaepernick.

Podcaster Taxstone stirred up a hornet's nest Wednesday, May 25, during a Vlad TV interview where he called Tupac Shakur a snitch for what he believes was the late rapper's implication that The Notorious B.I.G. was involved in his 1994 shooting at Quad Studios in New York City.

12350840471?profile=original

Tax also included Cam'Ron in the same category.

In 2005 Cam'Ron was shot while driving his blue Lamborghini in Washington, D. C. At the time he and Jay Z weren't on good terms.

The following year Killa released a Hov diss song titled "You Gotta Love It."

"O.K. First off, you a bitch nigga / Only reason I'm doing this / I'mma just name 5 reasons real quick, got a hundred fifty / First - you stole Rocafella from Dame / Second - you stole Kanye from Dame / Third - you stole Rocawear from Dame / Fourth - I seen the nigga throw that diamond up before them shots was fired," Cam rapped.

12352162490?profile=original

Tax told Vlad that the reference to Roc-A-Fella Records' diamond logo would make police assume Cam was talking about someone from the label, which would make the Harlem rapper a snitch as well.

Cam soon hopped on Instagram and posted a response video.

"I just woke up and some nigga talking about I'm snitching," Cam says. "Let me explain something to y'all motherfuckers. Snitching is when you have paperwork that you tried to send somebody to jail or you sent somebody to jail. Not what you hear in a rap song. Not what you hear in an interview ... interrogation room. Not on the streets, jail bars. I actually went to jail for not snitching, nigga," Killa continued, "I violated my probation for being in D.C. and didn't tell. So I went to jail on Rikers Island for violating my probation."

Cam's video had the following caption.

"#FactsAndFabric I'm not even gonna say a nigga name.. But I'm wit the shits my nigga.. Get off my dick.. Lol.. And get to da money.. #UfinishOrYouDone and stop try and dis Tupac"

I'm actually surprised we don't see this happen more often.

A news crew from Sacramento tv station Fox40 was attacked by angry family members of a shooting victim.

27-year-old Chester Jackson was shot and killed in a parking lot outside an IHOP early morning Sunday (February 20). His family gathered in the parking lot and set up a makeshift memorial. When reporter John Lobertini and photojournalist Rebecca Little approached to see if anyone wanted to talked, things got ugly.

"This is one of the hazards of the business but we didn't expect what we encountered here today," said Lobertini.

Before things escalated into violence, one woman is seen yelling at the news crew, who didn't back down. Then someone is seen pulling Little to the ground by her hair as they attempted to stop her from filming.

"When I fell on the ground I was protecting myself, and then she kicked me and I was still kinda paralyzed, and I hear my reporter John say, 'get up, get up,'" Little told Fox40

It was just an unfortunate situation for everyone. I know I wouldn't want some guy sticking a mic in my face right after a relative was killed. Hopefully the news crew won't try to press any charges.

At one point you can hear family members respond to her saying she was kicked by replying "nobody hit you."

"I know people are going through rough times but that's still my job. I wasn't trying to get in their face and be disrespectful," Little said.

Recently we covered a story about Haitian voodoo priests being lynched by angry mobs accusing them of spreading cholera in the earthquake ravaged country.

Another voodoo related story has just emerged, this time involving an American relief worker.

32-year old Paul Waggoner, the co-founder of Materials Management Relief Corps has been accused of turning a 15-month old dead baby boy into a zombie for the purpose of selling it’s organs.

12348737897?profile=originalPaul Waggoner being transported to a Haitian prison.

Waggoner is being held in prison pending further investigation after a judge ruled there was enough evidence to look into the charges further.

The accusation was made by the child’s father Frantz Philistin, who brought the sick child to a hospital in February. Philistin handed the child over to Waggoner, who then took the child to doctors. The child died, but wasn’t treated by Waggoner.

When the father came back the next day doctors say he saw the baby and confirmed his death. He refused to take the child with him, insisting he didn’t have the money for a burial, and the child was cremated by the hospital. But now Philistin is accusing Waggoner of performing voodoo on the child to keep him alive.

My son is not dead, when I tried to close his eyes they wouldn’t close. When I tried to close his mouth it wouldn’t close,” Philistin told  AOL news.

12348738668?profile=originalFrantz Philistin has accused Waggoner of using voodoo to turn his 15-month old baby into a zombie for the purpose of selling it's organs

Doctors on call at the time of the child’s death dispute Philistin’s claims.

I listened to the baby’s chest for at least two minutes,” Dr Kenneth Adams said. “And there were neither breath sounds nor heartbeat. Rigor mortis had set it, the baby’s lips and skin were bluish gray and there was corneal clouding of the eyes. I always take very seriously pronouncing the death of any patient.”

Waggoner’s friends are concerned or his safety.

Paul Sebring came to Haiti with Waggoner, he says the prison conditions are horrible.

We’ve literally given up everything in our lives to come help, and then this happens, we need help,” Sebring told MyFoxPhoenix. “The conditions he‘s in now I‘ve been to the prison. I wouldn’t even put an animal through that.

12348738491?profile=original
The U.S. State Department is monitoring the case closely according to spokesman P.J. Crowley.

What’s uncertain is how long Waggoner will remain jailed and if the U.S. can do anything to get him released.

DMX Moved To Mental Health Facility

12348727497?profile=originalRapper Earl Simmons, better known as DMX, is housed in a mental-health unit at an Arizona State Prison Complex facility called Alhambra near 25th street and Van Buren.

DMX was sentenced to a year in jail (minus 113 days served) on December 16, after he pleaded guilty to violating the terms of his probation. At his sentencing, Judge Christine Mulleneaux told him she believes he has "an undiagnosed mental condition," possibly bi-polar disorder.

DMX's manager, Nakia Walker, wouldn't comment specifically on whether DMX might have a mental disorder, but she says she wasn't surprised when he was moved to a mental-health unit. The rapper himself always has refused to comment on speculation about his mental state. In 2001, he threatened to beat up writer William Shaw for asking about it in a Blender magazine interview. "Waaaay too personal," DMX said.

The embattled hip-hop star is incarcerated for the 13th time. His record includes more than 25 arrests across the nation, 11 felony convictions, and 15 misdemeanor convictions.

Arizona Department of Corrections files confirm that DMX was admitted to the Flamenco Mental Health Unit at Alhambra on December 20. According to Walker, he will not be allowed to have visitors for 30 days.

I sometimes question the sanity of Fox talk show host, Glenn Beck.

He rants and raves and even once literally barked like a dog, So I think its best to just view him as a comedian.

This past week while poking fun at news competitor MSNBC for their low ratings he mocked Lindsay Lohan's not infamous courtroom appearance where the words "f*ck you" were painted on her fingernails.

The 'New Jack City' actor tried to argue that the sentence was unreasonable, but that argument failed.

Snipes originally got in trouble in 2008 when he was found guilty of not paying his taxes from 1999-2001. Leaving him owing the Internal Revenue Service $12 million dollars.

No word on when Snipes will have to begin his sentence.

Dark Man X is headed back to jail again for six months.

This time for violating terms of his probation by testing positive for drugs.

During the hearing a rep for Dr. Drew Pinsky of the Pasadena Recovery Center and MTV's "Celebrity Rehab" series, asked for permission to treat DMX at his facility in lieu of jail.

The judge seemed open to the idea, but said something like that would have to be approved by California court officials first.

According to MTV UK, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said : “Rappers seem to go to jail quite frequently. Why is he treated different, because he's DMX and made some movies? If he stays in the jail long enough I'll decide whether or not to put him in the drug prevention education program."

The judge also ordered DMX undergo a mental health evaluation.

Lil Wayne Begins Jail Sentence

NEW YORK (AP) — Lil Wayne has been sentenced to a year in jail after pleading guilty in a New York City gun case.

The Grammy Award-winning rapper was taken away in handcuffs Tuesday to start serving his term immediately after his sentencing. He pleaded guilty in October to attempted criminal possession of a weapon and admitted having a loaded gun on his tour bus in 2007.

After Judge Solomon reminded Wayne of his charges, the rapper firmly nodded that he understood. Police then handcuffed Lil Wayne and he stood up to be taken away

.

He paused momentarily before leaving and nodded to Cash Money execs Birdman and Slim, who were present in the courtroom. Just like that, Wayne was gone

He'll serve his sentence in city jails, not a state prison. He could be released in about eight months with good behavior.

Lil Wayne, born Dwayne Carter, has been one of rap's most prolific and profitable figures in recent years. His Tha Carter III was the best-selling album of 2008. His sentencing was postponed last month so he could undergo surgery on his bejeweled teeth.

Maybe the inmates really are running the asylum. A correction officer has been disciplined for dozing on the job after a colleague snapped a picture of her asleep while on post at a Rikers Island infirmary, officials said yesterday. A clearly conked-out Nadja Green is leaning in a chair with her head back, arms folded, eyes closed and mouth open. But even more alarming is an amused inmate seen hovering above her, mere inches from a set of keys that hangs from her belt. The picture was circulated around the department, and a source e-mailed it to The Post. Green was transferred on the island and placed on modified duty watching female inmates. She will face charges of sleeping on the job and other security- and performance-related charges. "We do not expect this type of behavior or performance from our officers, nor do we tolerate it," said city correction spokesman Steve Morello. The officer who took the picture, Claudel Barrau, was also transferred and placed on modified duty. Morello said possession and use of cellphones in jails, even by guards, is prohibited. "They are only allowed to carry a cell into a property locker and not into jail proper," Morello said. "And not where inmates circulate. It's a basic and obvious regulation and this represents a breach." Officials said the embarrassing photo was taken earlier this month in the prison's North Infirmary Command, formerly Rikers Island Hospital, which houses nearly 400 sick prisoners. The facility includes a wing for AIDS patients, one for sex offenders and one for exceptionally violent inmates. The disciplined officers will not be supervising inmates, according to officials. Morello said the picture was brought to the attention of the department's senior management. He said officials do not believe the sleeping officer was ever in any danger. There will be no charges against the inmate in the picture. Green, who turned 30 yesterday, has been on the job 4½ years. She lives in Queens and could not be reached for comment. Barrau, 47, has been on the job 18 years. When approached by a Post photographer at his Long Island home, he asked, "Why are you taking my picture?" A prison source described Green as "the Precious of Corrections," a reference to the movie about a teen from a dysfunctional family. A source said Green had a difficult upbringing and is the mother of several children. The source said she worked 96 hours of overtime this month. A union official said prison authorities should avoid a rush to judgment. "Many correction officers are forced to work 70 to 80 hours of mandatory overtime," said Correction Officer Benevolent Association spokesman Michael Skelly. "Since we don't know the particular circumstances of that particular officer, we are not going to condemn her. She may have been sick. "We believe it was highly suspect for the other officer to take a picture and potentially jeopardize her safety." New York Post Follow Me @Twitter.com/ChasinMoPaper

The Inqisitr Reports An Italian man currently under house arrest has requested to spend the rest of his sentence in jail, to get away from his nagging wife. 30 year old Santo Gambino, who was charged and convicted for dumping hazardous waste, spend part of his sentence in prison, but was transferred to his home near Palermo, Sicily to serve the rest of his sentence. Gambino, a construction worker who spent much of time working, was not accustomed to spending so much of his time at home with his wife. The couple had argued often and his wife constantly blamed him since his inability to work due to the house arrest caused financial problems for the family. So against the conditions of his house arrest, Gambino left the house and went straight to the police station, demanding to be arrested and put back in jail. Police did charge him for violating the conditions of his house arrest sentence, but instead of jailing him, they sent him back home to make peace with his wife.

Kevin Tavares, second from left, Stalin Felipe, center, and Rondell Bedward, right, talk to a reporter, left, after they were released from the Nassau County Jail in East Meadow, N.Y. NY Daily News Reports One of the five men falsely accused of gang-raping a Hofstra University student said Thursday he and his friends feared they would be attacked in jail. "In life and in jail, rapers and molesters are seen as the scum of the earth, the lowest of the low," said 20-year-old Kevin Taveras. "We were scared." Dressed in sweats and weary after his ordeal, Taveras said he doesn't even know the name of his accuser and hopes cops "file an investigation of that girl."

Kevin Tavares "I hope that other people see the truth that she lied, that we never lied," he said. "We could have all done long bids [in prison]. It could have cost us 25 years." Taveras' dad said what the 18-year-old Hofstra freshman did with her bogus charge will haunt his son forever. "This is not over," Ramiro Taveras, 44, said outside his Brentwood, L.I., home. "What's going to happen when somebody Googles his name?" Taveras spoke out a day after the woman recanted her story that five men raped her in a Hofstra dormitory bathroom early Sunday morning. Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice said she changed her story after being shown cell-phone video footage of the sexual encounter. "Her actions and her demeanor depict a very troubled young woman in need of some help," said Rice, declining to identify her. "It's fair to say that at some point she felt she had to tell the truth and I am glad that she did." Rice left open the possibility she could be charged with a crime. "It is against the law to tell the police that a crime happened when a crime did not happen," she said. While Rice declined to say who shot the footage, Taveras' lawyer said it was filmed by one of the participants and that "it looks more like a porn movie." "It showed just the opposite of what the allegations were," said lawyer Victor Daly-Rivera. "There was no tying up, there was no bruising, there was no screaming." Danmell Ndonye has been suspended from school pending a disciplinary hearing, said Hofstra spokeswoman Melissa Connolly. Asked point blank if he had sex with the girl, Taveras told the News, "I don't want to talk about what happened." But he said he learned a lesson. "If you're at college and you're going to a party, do what your parents says - don't get caught up in things like this," he said. Taveras said he and Stalin Felipe, 19, drove out Saturday with their buddies to see Rondell Bedward, a 21-year-old Hofstra student from the Bronx, and to attend a party at a campus nightclub. The woman told cops later Sunday that one of them lured her out of the club by swiping her cell phone on the dance floor. Taveras, Felipe, Bedward and another buddy were quickly rounded up and charged with first-degree rape. Cops were looking for the fifth man when the woman changed her story. Behind bars, Taveras said, he stayed close to Felipe, who is his step-brother and lives in the Bronx. He said he was sprung Wednesday night and driven home by his dad. Taveras said now he has to exlain to his girlfriend what really happened. "I put her through hell," he said. "It's going to be hard to get through this." Felipe said he believes the accuser lied because she "felt guilty and ashamed of herself." "I did not touch her at all," Felipe added. "I know how to treat women."
