LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The U.S. Justice Department announced civil rights charges Thursday against 4 Louisville 4 over the 2020 drug raid that led to the death of Breonna Taylor.

Federal officials “share but cannot fully imagine the grief” felt by Taylor’s family, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland said in announcing the charges.

“Breonna Taylor should be alive today,” he said. The charges range from unlawful conspiracies, use of force & obstruction of justice.

The charges are against former officers Joshua Jaynes, Brett Hankison, Kelly Goodlett & Sgt. Kyle Meany.

Local activists & members of the Taylor family celebrated the charges & thanked federal officials.

“This is a day when Black women saw equal justice in America,” lawyer Benjamin Crump said.

Taylor was shot to death by Louisville officers who had knocked down her door while executing the search warrant. Taylor’s boyfriend fired a shot that hit 1 of the officers as they came through the door & they returned fire, striking Taylor multiple times.

Hankison is facing 2 civil rights charges alleging he used excessive force when he retreated from Taylor’s door, turned a corner 2 fired 10 shots into the side of her two-bedroom apartment. Bullets flew into a neighbor’s apartment, nearly striking 1 man.

He was acquitted by a jury of state charges of wanton endangerment earlier this year.

Jaynes had applied for the warrant to search Taylor’s house. He was fired in January 2021 by former Louisville Police interim chief Yvette Gentry for violating department standards in the preparation of a search warrant execution & for being “untruthful” in the Taylor warrant.

Jaynes & Goodlett allegedly conspired to falsify an investigative document that was written after Taylor’s death. Federal investigators also allege Meany, who testified at Hankison’s trial earlier this year, lied to the FBI during its investigation.

The Louisville Metro Police Department fired two officers involved in the botched raid that resulted in Breonna Taylor's death and, in part, launched a summer of protests, authorities said.

Detectives Joshua Jaynes and Myles Cosgrove learned last week that the department intended to fire them, and those terminations became official on Tuesday, according to a letter from Louisville Metro Police Department Chief Yvette Gentry to the officers.

Cosgrove violated standard operating procedures for deadly force and failure to activate his body-worn camera, the chief said.

Jaynes was was fired for two departmental violations tied to his work securing the search warrant for the deadly March 13 raid, according to Gentry.

Taylor, who had no criminal record, was with boyfriend Kenneth Walker when plainclothes officers entered her apartment in the early morning hours to serve a no-knock search warrant in a drug case.

Walker, who had a license to carry a weapon, called 911 believing the home was being invaded by criminals and opened fire, wounding one of the officers in the leg.

That's when police returned fire, and Taylor was killed. Cosgrove fired the shot that killed Taylor, Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron said in September.

Jaynes was not at Taylor's apartment when gunfire erupted, but hours earlier he secured the search warrant that led to the deadly confrontation.

Video After The Jump

Podcaster Taxstone stirred up a hornet's nest Wednesday, May 25, during a Vlad TV interview where he called Tupac Shakur a snitch for what he believes was the late rapper's implication that The Notorious B.I.G. was involved in his 1994 shooting at Quad Studios in New York City.

12350840471?profile=original

Tax also included Cam'Ron in the same category.

In 2005 Cam'Ron was shot while driving his blue Lamborghini in Washington, D. C. At the time he and Jay Z weren't on good terms.

The following year Killa released a Hov diss song titled "You Gotta Love It."

"O.K. First off, you a bitch nigga / Only reason I'm doing this / I'mma just name 5 reasons real quick, got a hundred fifty / First - you stole Rocafella from Dame / Second - you stole Kanye from Dame / Third - you stole Rocawear from Dame / Fourth - I seen the nigga throw that diamond up before them shots was fired," Cam rapped.

12352162490?profile=original

Tax told Vlad that the reference to Roc-A-Fella Records' diamond logo would make police assume Cam was talking about someone from the label, which would make the Harlem rapper a snitch as well.

Cam soon hopped on Instagram and posted a response video.

"I just woke up and some nigga talking about I'm snitching," Cam says. "Let me explain something to y'all motherfuckers. Snitching is when you have paperwork that you tried to send somebody to jail or you sent somebody to jail. Not what you hear in a rap song. Not what you hear in an interview ... interrogation room. Not on the streets, jail bars. I actually went to jail for not snitching, nigga," Killa continued, "I violated my probation for being in D.C. and didn't tell. So I went to jail on Rikers Island for violating my probation."

Cam's video had the following caption.

"#FactsAndFabric I'm not even gonna say a nigga name.. But I'm wit the shits my nigga.. Get off my dick.. Lol.. And get to da money.. #UfinishOrYouDone and stop try and dis Tupac"

NYDAILYNEWS Reports His HBO character might have a taste for violence but a star of the crime show "The Wire" said he had nothing to do with gunplay that erupted outside his wife's baby shower. One man was killed and two others wounded in a gunfight outside the Brooklyn bash hosted by actor Jamie Hector - who played drug dealer Marlo Stanfield on the former hit show. Hector said in a statement released Monday that his " heartfelt prayers and condolences" went out to the victims' families. "I would like to make it clear that the shooting incident [Sunday] did not take place at my home, nor did it involve me, my wife, nor any of the invited guests," the actor said. Local residents, though said two of the young men injured in Sunday's 1:20 a.m. East Flatbush shootout had attended the baby shower. Linton Williams, 17, and Walter Parker, 22, had just left the party, neighbors said, when a car drove up and opened fire on the men. Williams died at the scene. Parker survived with a leg wound.Alison Gendar See Original Story Here

Michael Jackson suffered from crippling insomnia and pleaded for a powerful sedative in the days leading up to his death, according to a nutritionist who was working for the pop star. Cherilyn Lee said that she repeatedly rejected his demands for the drug, Diprivan, which is given intravenously. The singer told her that he had been given it in the past by an unnamed doctor. Several months ago, Jackson had begun badgering Ms Lee about Diprivan, also known as Propofol, she told the Associated Press. It is an anaesthetic drug widely used in operating rooms to induce unconsciousness, generally given through an IV needle in the hand. The powerful drug has a very narrow therapeutic window, meaning it does not take doses much larger than the medically recommended amount to stop a person's breathing, leading to cardiac arrest. The LA coroner's office performed an autopsy on the 50-year-old singer's body on Friday but deferred a decision on the cause of death, ordering toxicology tests. A second, private autopsy has been requested by the family, over concern about his final hours. Persistent reports claim that Jackson was addicted to painkillers and other prescription medicines. The Jackson family has questioned the role of the singer’s physician, Conrad Murray, who was with him when he collapsed. It took as long as 30 minutes for paramedics to be called after Dr Murray found Jackson with a faint pulse and performed CPR. Lawyers for Dr Murray, who had been treating Jackson for three years and who had recently moved into the rented mansion, have issued a categorical denial that the doctor had administered an injection of Demerol, a narcotic painkiller, to Jackson before his death. Ms Lee, 56, a registered nurse whose specialty includes nutritional counseling, said she received a frantic phone call from Jackson's staff on June 21 that the star needed her. She was in Florida at the time and told the staff member to take him to hospital. "At that point, I knew that somebody had given him something that hit the central nervous system," she said, adding, "He was in trouble Sunday and he was crying out." Jackson, 50, died on June 25 after suffering cardiac arrest, his family said. "I don't know what happened there. The only thing I can say is he was adamant about this drug," Ms Lee said. She said that previously she had warned Jackson against using Diprivan. "I said, 'Michael, the only problem with you taking this medication' — and I had a chill in my body and tears in my eyes three months ago — 'the only problem is you're going to take it and you're not going to wake up," she recalled. "He said, 'No, my doctor said it's safe. It works quick and it's safe as long as somebody's here to monitor me and wake me up. It's going to be OK,'" Ms Lee said. She said he did not give the doctor's name. Londell McMillan, attorney for Katherine and Joe Jackson, told CNN: "I wonder why anyone would make a comment about something that they don't have much knowledge about. They didn't see the drug administered. It's again because of the Michael Jackson factor." The Jackson family is planning to take the pop star's body to his Neverland ranch on Thursday. A public wake is planned for Friday and tens of thousands of fans are expected to attend. The family is said to be planning a private memorial service at the remote 2,500-acre ranch in Santa Barbara County on Sunday. Plans for Jackson's funeral remain unclear. Neverland, named after Peter Pan's island where boys never grew up, was dedicated to the pop legend's obsession with childhood. At its height, Neverland featured its own amusement park, a private zoo with giraffes and tigers and statues of children at play. Jackson left the estate after his acquittal on charges in 2005 that he molested a 13-year-old boy in 2003 at the estate. It had fallen into disrepair but recently has been partly refurbished by a real-estate investment company that took joint ownership with Jackson last year. Jackson left his multi-million pound estate to be held in trust for his children by his mother who is appointed as their guardian, according to reports. But the pop star left nothing to his father Joe whom he accused of abusing him as a child. The existence of the will drafted by Jackson in 2002, emerged as his parents swiftly moved to take control of his assets in court. The Jackson family have now received a copy of the will which will be verified in court. Jackson's former lawyer, John Branca, is named as an executor, as is veteran music executive John McClain, who was also a friend of Jackson. His parents have asked a judge to make Katherine Jackson, the star's mother, administrator of his estate. A judge has granted Mrs Jackson, 79, temporary guardianship of Michael Joseph Jackson Jr., known as Prince Michael, 12, Paris Michael Katherine Jackson, 11, and Prince Michael II, 7. Another hearing is scheduled for Monday July 6. Source: TimesOnline
