ARLINGTON – Everyone won.

The score that never matters in an All Star game, mattered less. Even the dunks, the no-look passes and torrents of 3-pointers were overshadowed.

The best players the NBA could assemble were overshadowed by scores of people that rarely moved at all.

The NBA All-Star game was won by the Eastern Conference, 141-139, but the significance was that 108,713 came to see it.

"This is amazing all of us, something we’ll be able to tell our kids’ kids, Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade, the game’s MVP with 28 points and 11 assists, said. "We were part of this."

Playing in a football stadium for the first time since San Antonio’s Alamodome doubled as the Spurs’ home, the 59th NBA All-Star game set a world record for a basketball time, surpassing the 78,129 that attended a Kentucky-Michigan State game in Detroit’s Ford Field in 2007.

"Some of the guys came up to me before the game and said, "This is unbelievable,’ " Dallas forward Dirk Nowitzki said.

"It was amazing how many people came out to support us and see this game and be part of history. We needed a win at the end kind of to top the whole thing off. But other than that, had an amazing weekend and I will always remember this."

The sixth NBA All-Star Game in a domed stadium broke the attendance record for the game set by the 44,735 that attended the 1989 game in the Astrodome. Tickets went from $500 to $30 for standing room, with as much as 20 percent of the crowd not needing to pay at all.

Dallas owner Mark Cuban, standing a few feet from the court before the opening tip, looked from the players that had been introduced to the packed upper deck far away, and was beaming in triumph.

"I wish this is exactly how I pictured it," he said. "It’s better."

The game had the usual waves of scoring, with the Eastern
Conference building a 16-point third-quarter lead. But the East never could quite pull away.

With the game tied, Wade took off with a flurry of steals and slams in an 11-2 East run, but the West rallied back again.

Chauncey Billups, who had 14 fourth-quarter points hit a 3, Nowitzki drew a foul and made both free throws and Billups scored again to tie the game with 65 seconds to play.

After Wade stripped Deron Williams, Williams lost track of the score and intentionally fouled
Wade to stop the clock with 12.5 seconds left, even though the game was tied. Wade made both free throws.

The West naturally set up Nowitzki to take a 3 for the win, but Nowitzki pumped Dwight Howard off his feet, drawing a foul, and putting in two free throws to tie the game with 7.7 seconds remaining.

"I actually had Dwight Howard in the air, so what I should have done was jump it to him, got three free throws instead of two and we would have been up by one," Nowitzki said.

It would not have mattered.

With one hometown star tying the game, another won it. The Raptors’ Chris Bosh, who is from Dallas, got a step on Billups and drew a foul, making both free throws with five seconds left.

"Yeah, it’s a little different, especially it’s the All-Star Game," Bosh said of taking crucial free throws in such a setting. "We got serious at the end. We wanted to win the game, 108,000 people are watching. It’s a different kind of setting."

With little time left, the East quickly got the ball to Carmelo Anthony missed a 3 for the win at the buzzer, with Bosh wrapping up the rebound and the win.

""We wanted to go for the win," Anthony said. "George (Karl, Anthony’s Nuggets coach, who coached the West) the Western tried to draw up a play. We wanted to go for the win. It was history tonight. If I made it, I was a hero. If not, that was the game. They were all saying they wanted me to take the shot. I felt good having All Star guys telling me they wanted me to get the shot."

When he missed, the West lost it’s last chance. But it hardly mattered. More than ever, the results were secondary, with the attendance the most important part of the box score.

"It was unbelievable for us to be part of moment like this," Anthony said. "I don’t think we’ll ever be part of another game or situation like this again. It was incredible. It was great."

Public Enemy hypeman turned reality TV star Flavor Flav (William Drayton, Jr.) will soon answer charges that he owes $63,458.00 in back child support to the mother of three of his children.

According to the Albany County Child Support Collection Division, Mary Parker originally had an agreement in place since 1996 that covered the former couple's two children at the time. However, Parker moved to have the agreement amended in July 2008 after the birth of a third child.

She was successful with an appeal last month, and a judge ordered Flavor Flav’s weekly payment of $117 increased to $837.72, along with requirements to cover private school tuition fees dating back to the original 2008 amendment filing.

Flav, who celebrates his 51st birthday next month, explained that he will contest the order on the grounds that he’s made payments to his children’s mother beyond the court decreed amount.

"The judgment is recent as I was just made aware of it," Flav stated to the NY Post. "I'll certainly be addressing it. However, I've made payments on my children's tuition, and have made direct payment to the mother outside of the court order."

Since finding success on several VH1 reality shows (Surreal Life, Strange Love, Flavor of Love) in the mid 2000s, Flavor Flav has been attacked by several family members for alleged financial abandonment.

In January 2009, a daughter accused him of bring a bad parent for reneging on a promise to pay for her final semester of college, and only seeing her one week out the year.

Karen Ross-Fortunate, another mother of three of Flav’s children, went public in stating the Public Enemy member did not financially support his children, in particular their eldest son’s college tuition expenses.

Flav has seven children, the last being a boy named Karma born in 2007.

At press time, Flavor Flav’s Albany County child support case does not have a court date.

In a couple of weeks, the G-Unit will be heading overseas for an international tour. Come June, the 50 Cent-captained team is scheduled to do something they haven't done in quite some time: tour the United States. Although no dates or other acts have been announced for the bill, Tony Yayo is hoping at least Slim Shady will be on the road with them."I'm not sure if Eminem is gonna be a part of the bill," Yayo said recently in New York. "I know 50 wants to go out and do the U.S. tour. It would be an honor if Em came out. Shout to Em, the whole D12, everybody out there."My best experience was [the] Anger Management [3 tour] with 50 and Eminem," Yayo added. "They was killing each other on the tour, it was crazy. That was an ill tour. Em comes out, Fif comes out, D12, Proof was still alive — rest in peace to Proof. That's one of the best hype men ever."While Yayo was fantasizing out loud, he threw another name in the mix. "You know what? I would love to see Eminem, Dre and 50 do a big tour, so I could make millions of dollars," he said. "I'll be a stagehand and work in the back. I wouldn't even care. I know I'll make a million dollars lifting stuff. It's an honor to be in their presence."Obviously, it would be a huge undertaking to get all these guys on the road together, but Yayo and the fans can dream, can't they?"With guys like Em and Dre and Fif, these guys got busy schedules," the Queens native said. "Em is working on another album. Fif got about 15 movies; he's working on another movie right now called 'The Gun.' Dre — come on, man, you see them Dr. Dre headphones selling like hot cakes everywhere you go. Those guys are busy guys. I feel blessed I could say that I know Eminem, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent. A lot of artists beg to do a song with Eminem, beg to do a song with 50 Cent, beg to do a song with Dre — I've experienced all those worlds."Yayo said that his new album might be called Godfather of the Ghetto, and like Lloyd Banks' next album, he wants to put it out this summer while the Unit are on tour. As for when 50 might release another LP, Tony said Fif isn't focused on that right now."50 is like a chameleon," Yayo said. "What I seen from Fif, he's in Will Smith mode; he's shooting movie after movie. I know he's definitely supporting me and Banks' albums."Source: MTV

Lloyd Banks Carrying G Unit Torch With New Album

2006 came with the drop of Lloyd Banks sophomore album The Rotten Apple, which also signified the abrupt stop for the rapper.
Unlike the debut, Hunger For More, fans felt that the rapper went too mainstream and dumbed down his lyrical ability to garner sales.

Returning to the scene in 2009 dropping 5 mixtapes, Banks is looking to jump back on the bike and start pedaling again with his upcoming album.

Recently, the rapper dropped the joint “Beamer, Benz or Bentley” featuring Juelz Santana.

With 50 Cent busy in all of his other business ventures, Banks finds the door open for him now to take their brand up a notch and provide somewhat of a reintroduction to the future of G Unit.

During an interview with KG Radio Show, the rapper spoke on the creating opportunity for other artists and how everything was chopped back down to the original three members.

“The founding members are always gonna be there. We built this up, gave opportunities to other artists that were signed including Buck and Game and so on. But as long as that structure is there, we're good. We're solid. You can look forward to me, I'm the future. This summer [for my album]. It's a tight schedule...hopefully we can push for late summer."

Separating himself from Interscope to reportedly become a free agent, alongside Tony Yayo, Banks has been embracing all artists outside of his team as of late such as Nipsey Hussle and Jay Rock, showing that he intends to no longer give off the aura that he is down to create war.

With no title or concrete release date set for the album, his run in 2009 is an indication that Banks is coming back with something to prove on his third go around.

DALLAS -- "We Are the World: 25 for Haiti," the all-star remake of the classic 1985 charity single, premiered on Friday night during the Winter Olympics opening ceremony. The song features dozens of today's biggest musical artists, ranging from Kanye West and Pink to Barbra Streisand and Tony Bennett, and unlike the original, it also features a large number of rappers. However, the genre's biggest star said that to him, musically speaking, nothing could ever come close to the original.

"I have a interesting take on that," Jay-Z said Saturday at the annual "2 Kings" dinner, which was sponsored by Sprite and Bing and took place during NBA All-Star weekend. "I know everybody is gonna take this wrong: 'We Are the World,' I love it, and I understand the point and think it's great. But I think 'We Are the World' is like [Michael Jackson's] 'Thriller' to me. I don't ever wanna see it touched. I'm a fan of music. I know the plight and everything that's going on in Haiti. I applaud the efforts: [Millions have been raised] through text [donations] to Haiti. So I appreciate the efforts and everything, but 'We are the World' is [musically] untouchable like 'Thriller' is untouchable. Some things are just untouchable. It was a valiant effort, but for me, it's gonna be untouchable."

Jay said he felt that a new song should have been written instead of re-creating the 1985 classic.

"I would have loved that idea better," he said. "As everyone knows, I have tremendous respect for Quincy Jones. Of course, I think he's genius, as everyone else does. [But] I think it's time for us to make a new [song]. I tried to do that with 'Stranded,' the song Jay, Rihanna and U2's Bono and the Edge premiered at the 'Hope for Haiti Now' telethon]. I didn't try to make 'We Are the World,' but I tried to make our take on how we felt."

In fact, Jay and LeBron James spent the early part of Saturday giving back in Dallas. They visited a local Boys & Girls Club and gave out not just scholarships, but words of advice and inspiration telling the kids to pursue their dreams.

The "2 Kings" dinner and afterparty was held at the W Hotel in Dallas. Diddy, Mario Lopez, Terrell Owens, Magic Johnson, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Dave Winfield were among those who attended.

What do you think of Jay's comments? Do you like "We Are the World: 25 for Haiti," or should a new song have been created for the benefit?

The scientist who is accused of killing three colleagues at the University of Alabama had been a key suspect in an attempted bomb plot at Harvard in 1993, police officials told The Boston Globe on Sunday.

Authorities questioned Amy Bishop and her husband, James Anderson, in March 1993 after a bomb-laden package was delivered to a Harvard professor and doctor at Boston's Children's Hospital, the Globe reported.

The plot was the latest revelation linking Bishop to past investigations. Bishop is accused of shooting to death three colleagues during a faculty meeting on the University of Alabama's Hunstville, Ala. campus on Friday.

Bishop, who has four children, was arrested soon after the shooting and charged with capital murder. Other charges are pending. Her husband was detained and questioned by police but has not been charged.

In 1986, Bishop shot and killed her 18-year-old brother with a shotgun at their Braintree, Mass., home. She told police at the time that she had been trying to learn how to use the gun, which her father had bought for protection, when it accidentally discharged.

Authorities released her and said the episode was a tragic accident. She was never charged, though police Chief Paul Frazier on Saturday questioned how the investigation was handled.

In the Harvard plot, a police official told the Globe that Bishop's name surfaced as a suspect because she was allegedly concerned about getting a negative evaluation on her doctorate work from Dr. Paul Rosenberg.

During the initial investigation, Rosenberg told police that he had received a thin, long package addressed to him and soon discovered that was filled with wires and a cylinder, according to the Globe.

The package had contained two pipe bombs, which were hooked up two nine-volt batteries, the Globe reported.

During a search of Bishop's computer, investigators discovered a draft of a story that Bishop had written about a female scientist who had killed her brother and was hoping to find redemption in life my becoming a great scientist, the Globe reported.

Bishop and her husband were never charged in the Harvard plot.

'It was just a normal day'
Back in Alabama, some of Bishop's colleagues, including William Setzer, chairman of the department of chemistry, told The Associated Press they did not know about Bishop's past.

Alabama police said the gun she is accused of using in Friday's shooting was not registered, and investigators don't know how or where she got it.

Just after the shooting, her husband James Anderson told the Chronicle, she called and asked him to pick her up. She never mentioned the shooting, he said.

Anderson said his wife had an attorney but would not say who it was. He declined further comment to The Associated Press on Sunday. However, he told the Chronicle of Higher Education earlier in the day that he had no idea his wife had a gun — nor did he know of any threats or plans to carry out the shooting when he dropped her off at the faculty meeting Friday.

Even in the days and hours before the shooting, Bishop's friends, colleagues and students said she was acting like the intelligent — but odd — professor they knew.

UAH student Andrew Cole was in Bishop's anatomy class Friday morning and said she seemed perfectly normal. Kourtney Lattimore, 19, a sophomore studying nursing who had Bishop for anatomy and physiology courses, said she didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

"She was fine. It was a normal day," Lattimore said.

The last film made by U.S. actress Brittany Murphy, who died in December after suffering cardiac arrest, is heading to the big screens later this year after being picked up by Anchor Bay Entertainment.

The film distribution company said in a statement that it had bought the psychological thriller "Abandoned" for North American distribution with the film set to be released this summer.

The movie, produced by Jeffrey Schenck and Barry Barnholtz, was the last film role for 32-year-old Murphy, who co-starred in films like "8 Mile," "Clueless" and "Girl Interrupted" but worked in mostly low-budget movies in more recent years.

"Brittany will be deeply missed by everyone who worked on Abandoned. The film is a taut thriller which portrays Brittany's character as smart and tough -- and that's how we all want to remember her," the producers said in a joint statement.

Murphy suffered a cardiac arrest on December 20 in the bathroom of her Hollywood Hills home. A coroner has ruled her death accidental and the result of pneumonia, anemia and "multiple drug intoxication."

Anchor Bay Entertainment's President Bill Clark said it was an "honor and bittersweet" to release Murphy's last film that was finished in June last year.

"It was important to Anchor Bay that the timing of this release be right, because we're sensitive to such a tragic loss. However, we also recognize that Brittany's fans will want to see her amazing work," said.

In "Abandoned" Murphy plays Mary Walsh who takes her boyfriend to hospital for routine outpatient surgery but he vanishes with no record of him left behind. Soon, however, she receives a ransom demand.

The film co-stars Dean Cain and Mimi Rogers.

Anchor Bay Entertainment is a division of Starz Media LLC which is a subsidiary of John Malone's Liberty Media Corp.

It's NBA All Star Weekend so we get a chance to see basketball's best in a variety of skills contests.

The two most popular ones besides the actual All Star game itself are the three point shooting and dunk contests.

Over the years we have seen Hall Of Fame players like Larry Bird and Michael Jordon dominate these events. Last night we might not have had any players of that caliber. But we did see some pretty good competition as New York Knicks player Nate Robinson showed us size isn't everything as he became the first player ever to claim three dunk competitions.

Terrence Howard, the actor who likes to spend his free time telling women how to “clean-up” their act, may have to get his own house in order.

Howard, known for his roles in “Hustle and Flow,” “Crash” and “Iron Man,” owes more than $1.1 million in federal income taxes, reports the Inquirer’s Michael Klein via the Detroit Times.

The IRS filed a lien against the Montgomery County resident totaling about $1.13 million on Jan. 25 for unpaid self-employment taxes for 2007 and 2008.

The lien is filed against the Academy Award nominated actor’s Plymouth Meeting house on Spring Mill Road.

There was a state tax lien against Howard in 2005 for $14,429.59, and a federal one in 2006 for $624,520.99, both of which were settled.

With $1.1 million owed to the government, Howard may regret turning down that well-paying job on “Iron Man 2.”
