KG MAGAZINE

By Wilberto Belardo

It ceases to amaze me when I see individuals overcome overwhelming obstacles. Over the last several years, while the rest of the country had their attention taken by the craziness of our times one inmate serving a life sentence on the West Coast has been on a serious grind.King Guru, author of the best-selling urban series DEVILS AND DEMONS has surprised us again with his 'against all odds ingenuity.' Not only has he managed to produce his own podcast called DA TRUTH (available on Spotify), but now he's come out with a nonnude exotic model magazine. The Cell Block author saw a hole created by the passing of DJ KAY SLAY publisher and owner of STRAIGHT STUNTIN MAGAZINE and slithered through it while no one was looking. With the advantage of MAGCLOUD an on-demand magazine publishing company and a black market cell phone, King Guru created KG MAGAZINE.As far as product content, it's amazing! Put KG MAGAZINE next to its competitors; VIRAL MAGAZINE, PHAT PUFFS, BOTTLES AND MODELZ, and you can see for yourself that he's putting them to shame! All from inside a level four prison cell in the CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS AND REHABILITATION.Check 'im out. KG MAGAZINE Volumes 1 through 4 are available now on MagCloud.com. King Guru's Instagram @stuntin_resurrected. His podcast is called Da Truth and it's available on Spotify. His website and blog are on www.kinggurudalegend.com.I'm telling you, The Cell Block author is silently carving out a corner for himself in the hip-hop industry. Don't sleep on him!

Remember waiting on that next issue of The Source, VIBE, Yo!! Raps, XXL, and other Hip Hop Magazines, just to see if your favorite Emcee made the cover and to get the real news behind the scenes of hip hop?? Well so does #IGrind magazine, and they are trying to bring that old feeling of nostalgia back.

Over time the internet killed the sales of magazine prints. And also, had everyone running to be the first to tell anything never knowing what was trending next. This has been a major cause of the wack artists that saturate the hip hop culture today. With media outlets basically just "looking" for news, anything goes. No more talent, no more grind, no more respect paid to those who made their own lane. Whoever everyone else says is popular, or who ever has paid, makes the release list for the day.

72114879?profile=original

#IGrind Magazine strives to change that. With no real website promotion and no real social media marketing, they release monthly issues of their magazine. Which are then available for free digital reading or physical copies delivered right to the readers door. For very decent prices. And hip hop heads, readers and artists alike, are flocking to the publication.

But the only way to make the magazine, is too actually be grinding your brand. From Hip Hop artists to producers, jewelry makers to independent radio show hosts and owners...#IGrind looks to feature those who are building their own industry. We're told that is what they pride themselves in...to feature those who deserve recognition...and not those who have bought recognition.

72114887?profile=original

Having started beginning of 2016, #IGrind released 8 issues in just 10 months. Their covers featured amazing grinders. A gore-hop femcee who tours regularly and sells out shows, creator of an independent music video show that airs in 30+ cities across the country, a west coast gangster rap originator and legend, an underground artist who sold over 150,000 units independently and a Chicago artist who has many many videos and songs with top selling Djs and artists, as well as a deal for years with Waka Flocka, but chooses to remain independent and underground. All of them built themselves from the ground up.

Although #IGrind said they never really wanted to feature the names already heavily known, they won't hesitate to feature anyone from underground to mainstream in their project and video reviews. They are fair, yet brutally honest. In this writers opinion, I think it is great publicity to have your latest project or video reviewed next to top selling artists. And actually get a better review!!

72114981?profile=original

Each issue is short with about 4-5 informative artist interviews. A few ads, but what we really enjoy are the final pages of each issue titled, "Back Room Discussion." For any up and coming recording artist, entrepreneur, or flat out legitimate hustler, this is almost a blueprint of ways to move in the game and what to watch for. Its interesting the topics they choose to cover as some of them are the most important, yet least discussed.

When we spoke to representatives of the magazine, they said they plan to continue exactly what they were doing.."if it ain't broke, why fix it". We were told they are always looking for new artists to feature and the ones with extensive history can make the cover. "It's not a popularity contest"..one of the editors said, " if one artist has 11 videos with 120 views, and another artist has one video with 60,000 views...we will most likely be interested in speaking with the artist with 11 videos. He shows that he is grinding. And that's what we celebrate...the grind."

You can check out all the issues on magcloud by following the link below. And any one interested in featuring in a future issue can contact #IGrind Magazine at igrindmag@yahoo.com

Hood Illustrated released their 10th issue #BestInThaMidwest edition and amongst the 17 Faces You Should Know was non other than Chicago born and Stack Or Starve Approved founder, Dough From Da Go.

What is your HOOD Story?
Im defanitely from the neighborhoods and connect with the streets since ive been passionate about the music games years ago. I help those that i feel have a shot, and take it to the next level by assisting with things needed on the admin or marketing level. Im very in tune with the hood, and want to see us come from the bottom and stay at the top.

You are constantly making moves. What are some determining factors that come into place when you are presented with these different opportunities to grow your brand?
Believing in God, staying humble and keeping a dope work ethic. I think im the hardest working one out of the midwest, and i say that with confidence. Its all in the hustle at the end of the day. Ive got alot of people i look up to and carry those blue prints and blend em with my hustle and expertise and move how im suppose to move. I think its all in your ambition and consistency.
Who Is Dough From Da Go? Hustler, Entrepreneur,  Promoter, Etc… ( What Defines you as a brand)
Defanitely a hustler. Entrepreneur and visonary when it comes to the indpendents and being a resource to help other brands remain large and become large.
What currently motivates you to continue and grind it out like you do?
Passion as well as paying attention to the past and current winners of our time. Legacy and respect is real important to me, i take everything i do seriously and move
with certain mannerisms in order to be respected amongst the elite. In addition im just motivated by life, journey and being better with everything i do.
What can we expect from you this year?  Are you working on any projects, Endorsing any additional brands, etc…
Alot of work. The Relaunch Of "Stack Or Starve Approved" as well as "Female Flow" with my Business partner and long time friend, Missy B.  Of course working heavy with Def Jam...alot of artists dropping this year. Also fucking with 300 Ent. Sony/ RED and a few other labels on the major side. My clothing Brand "Bag Language" will be launching two season lines, also my new website is being developed where we will showcase and highlight whos grinding the indy scene. I have a handful of artists im breaking into the game: Ray iLLa, Hardknock, also a female by the name of Keish Keish, a couple artists on my radar also are: ChinChilla Meek from Harvey, IL & an artist named from Chicago named Tony Cartel. Im also going to be taking Lil Mouse to a new level. I am back producing also, i am going to shock people with the new production, we are dropping a total of 5 projects this year, Ep's & albums with my brothers Producer SC & Tony Baines. We gonna bring that vibe back to the city for sure. Im excited about the ventures & works ahead.... Eveyrthingz Workin'!!!
Many artist / brands have a lane that they are comfortable moving in. If you had to describe your lane and where you feel the  most comfortable what would that lane be?
The lane of observation, the humble lane but the dont take no shit lane. Im very key on relationships, but kissing ass was never a sport i played lol. #RealRecognizeReal
What is your ultimate goal for the Stack or Starve brand?
Well i feel we have already set trends and had success at breaking artists in the market and taking the dj crew to the next level as well as putting out classic projects. Now we want to continue breaking artists on a new level and let the new mixtape brands come in and do their thing. But ultimately its going to be doing some big tours and taking the brand to a corporate level.

Why should consumers support your movement / buy the brands you push.  What separates you
from every other brand ambassador?
Independence first and foremost. We stay authentic to the streets and we also have an ear for talent as well as remain respected based on not forgetting where we come from.
Im absolutely always confident that consumers are satisfied with our quality and vision for out presentations when it comes to the products and services. In addition, what seperates myself from these other brand ambassadors is im always ahead of the game and thinking of the next move to become the best move!
What do you want to tell the HOOD Illustrated Readers about Dough From Da Go? What are your last words to the HOOD?
Rock with me, reach out to me @DoughFromDaGo on social media DoughFromDaGo@gmail.com , lets chop it up and take the visions to the next level. Im always working and always applying pressure to the game. Shouts to the HOOD and big shouts to Hood illustrated for staying 1000 with me and the grind throughout the years! Bless up!
