Video After The Jump

Wack100 shared a childhood experience involving a man named Jerry from his neighborhood. According to Wack100, Jerry lived next to a drug house and, for around nine months, was supplied with drugs to sell. However, one day, Jerry disappeared, taking both the product and the money with him. Upon finding Jerry at a nearby hotel, Wack100 and his older associates took him back to the house to retrieve his belongings. Fearing for their safety due to the presence of hunting guns in the house, Wack100 went to secure the firearms but walked in on Jerry, committing suicide with a shotgun. Despite his young age, Wack100 handled the situation, preventing his companions from tampering with the crime scene and arranging for his mother to alert the authorities. Wack100 recalled feeling eerily unaffected by the incident, admitting it was perhaps the baptism of his street name and his emotional numbness towards death.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A group of Temple University students is speaking about their frightening ordeal early Friday morning when two masked men entered their off-campus apartment, armed with a gun & robbed them.

There were 11 students inside at the time of the robbery. 6 female residents, 3 of their boyfriends & 2 female friends were sleeping over.

"I think the sad part is, we all talked in the room, we all realized once they came into the room, everyone was kind of like 'oh, it's our time now,'" 1 student said.

They said they were woken up by a knock at the door.

Out front were the 2 masked suspects, at least 1 had a gun.

1 of the roommates let the 2 men in the apartment thinking they were young men who probably knew someone inside.

"We were all just woken up. There was a guy with a gun. He came into a couple of our rooms. He made 1 of us go & wake up the rest of the roommates with the guy with the gun," a second student said.

However, the students soon figured out the men were not in the right location.

The suspects kept asking the students, "Where are the drugs? Where are the drugs?"

The suspects were apparently told this was a home they would be able to find drugs & money. But that was not the case.

The armed robbers proceeded to lock all 11 students in the basement.

"We were all kept in the same room together for over an hour they were there," the second student said.

All the victims were unharmed but shaken as they were forced to hand over their cell phones, debit cards along with their PIN numbers & car keys.

"You never think it's going to happen to you, but when it does it's like a shock," the second student said.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Gunfire killed 3 people & wounded at least 11 others in a popular downtown Philadelphia entertainment district late Saturday night.

Police officers were patrolling the area on South Street in downtown Philadelphia when they heard multiple gunshots & witnessed several suspects firing into a large crowd just before midnight, Police Inspector D. F. Pace said during a news conference.

An officer shot at 1 of the suspects from about 30 feet away, but it is unclear if the suspect was hit.

“You can imagine there were hundreds of individuals just enjoying South Street, as they do every single weekend, when this shooting broke out,” Pace said.

2 men  a woman were among those killed in the shooting. Their names were not made public by authorities. Thomas Jefferson University Hospital spokesperson Damien Woods said, of the 10 patients who came to the hospital, 3 were dead, 6 were in stable condition & 1 had been discharged.

2 handguns were recovered, including 1 with an extended magazine, police said. No arrests have been made.

South Street is known for its entertainment venues and night life with multiple bars, restaurants and businesses. Surveillance video from a local business posted by WTXF-TV showed scores of people milling about on the sidewalks and in the street who then suddenly began to flee en masse as the gunfire began.

Pace said police expect to be able to gather “a lot of video surveillance footage” from the many businesses along the street later in the day to try to identify suspects.

Eric Walsh, closing up the outdoor seating area of a bar along the block, said the scene was “chaos.” He said he saw a young woman collapse to the ground on the corner.

“People were coming off the street with blood splatters on white sneakers & skinned knees & skinned elbows,” Walsh said. “We literally just were balling up napkins & wetting them & handing them to people.”

Nearly a dozen men associated with the Brooklyn-based Woo gang were charged Thursday with allegedly stealing more than $4 million in COVID-19 relief cash & boasting about the scam in a music video, the feds said.

The 11 suspects – 9 of whom live in Brooklyn – used personal information, including driver’s license numbers, from 800 people to submit unemployment claims worth about $20 million.

The gang members were able to fleece some $4.3 million from the unemployment program between March 2020 and October 2021 as part of the scam.

A number of the suspects allegedly flashed stacks of the cash on social media & made reference to the scam in a rap video for the song “Trappin.”

The song includes the lyrics: “Unemployment got us working a lot,” a reference to the scheme.

One of the suspects, Christopher Jean Pierre, bought identifying information of his victims, including driver’s license numbers, for $150 apiece.

The feds recovered messages sent by Jean Pierre on an encrypted messaging app to a person identified as “Skyscraper,” who sold him the information.

“Yoo bro I need NY pros with the DL ASAP,” Jean Pierre wrote, referring to “driver’s licenses.”

“Is 150,” Skyscraper wrote back.

In a statement announcing the charges, US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York Breon Peace said he would continue to go after gang members who attempt to rip off the US government.

Eight of the suspects were arrested Thursday in New York and are scheduled to be presented in Brooklyn federal court.

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) — Opening statements began Friday in the murder trial of three white men charged in the shooting death of Ahmaud Arbery, with a prosecutor telling jurors that faulty assumptions led them to chase down the 25-year-old Black man.

Greg McMichael & his adult son, Travis McMichael, armed themselves & pursued Arbery in a pickup truck as he ran through their neighborhood just outside the Georgia city of Brunswick on Feb. 23, 2020. A neighbor, William “Roddie” Bryan, joined the chase & recorded graphic video of Travis McMichael shooting Arbery 3 times with a shotgun.

“All three of these defendants did everything they did based on assumptions — not on facts, not on evidence,” prosecutor Linda Dunikoski told the jury. “And they made decisions in their driveways based on those assumptions that took a young man’s life.”

Greg McMichael said his son killed Arbery in self-defense after Arbery attacked with his fists & tried to take Travis McMichael’s gun.

Prosecutors say Arbery was merely out jogging, was unarmed & had committed no crimes in the neighborhood. When Bryan’s video of the killing leaked online in May 2020.

Controversy erupted on Wednesday, the final day of jury selection, when prosecutors objected to a final jury consisting of 11 whites & 1 Black juror. They argued that defense attorneys had cut 8 potential jurors from the final panel because they are Black, which the U.S. Supreme Court has declared unconstitutional.

The judge agreed there appeared to be “intentional discrimination,” but said Georgia law limited his authority to intervene because defense attorneys stated non-racial reasons for excluding Black panelists from the jury.

“When I found out Derrick [Rose] tore his ACL, I remember the smells, who I was with, everything. I had the same feeling of when I saw the plane hit the tower [on Sept. 11th]. People will be like, ‘He’s crazy for saying that.’ No. I’m telling you how I felt.”

That's former NBA star Joakim Noah explaining he was so devastated when a young D-Rose suffered the serious injury, it harkened him back to the day thousands of Americans died in one of the darkest days in America's history.

36-year-old Noah -- who last played with the Clippers in 2020 -- dropped the shocking quote about his close friend during a long form conversation with ESPN.

Of course, the injury happened during the 2011-2012 NBA playoffs. The Bulls were the #1 seed in the East & were playing the Sixers in the 1st round of the playoffs.

Chicago won game 1, but the game was marred by the ACL tear to Rose.

The Bulls ended up losing the series & although Rose -- now one of the NY Knicks' best players -- has come back since as a highly capable player, but never returned to pre-injury form.

"We really believed we were gonna win that championship," Noah says.

As far as comparing a sports injury to the horrific death of almost 3,000 innocent people ... it's likely a comparison that won't sit right with some people.

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — A former Tidewater Virginia sheriff has been found guilty on all counts in a federal bribery trial.

The jury deliberated for more than five hours before finding former Norfolk Sheriff Bob McCabe guilty of 11 counts of fraud, conspiracy and money laundering on Tuesday, news outlets reported. He faces up to 20 years in prison for each count.

McCabe served as Norfolk’s sheriff from 1994 to 2017. He won by significant margins in each of his six elections, but came in a distant third in a 2016 bid for mayor. He was already under federal investigation when he abruptly resigned in 2017 and was indicted two years later.

McCabe was accused of using his position to solicit bribes and campaign donations from people linked to two companies that had large Norfolk City Jail contracts. When McCabe testified last week, he admitted to violating campaign finance laws and getting loans and gifts from businessmen, but denied taking bribes. He testified that he consistently waited until the last minute to file campaign finance reports and probably failed to report some contributions and expenditures, but claimed it was never intentional.

McCabe was taken into custody after the verdict and will be sentenced Jan. 21.

NEW YORK (AP) — An investigation found that Gov. Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed nearly a dozen women in and out of state government and worked to retaliate against one of his accusers, New York’s attorney general announced Tuesday, hastening calls for the Democrat’s resignation or impeachment.

President Joe Biden was among those who said Cuomo should resign, a high-profile condemnation from a onetime close ally.

“I think he should resign,” he told reporters Tuesday.

The governor remained defiant, saying in a taped response to the findings that “the facts are much different than what has been portrayed” and that he “never touched anyone inappropriately or made inappropriate sexual advances.”

The nearly five-month investigation, led by two outside lawyers, concluded that 11 women who said that Cuomo had touched them inappropriately, commented on their appearance or made suggestive comments about their sex lives were telling the truth.

Those accusers included an aide who said Cuomo groped her breast at the governor’s mansion and a state trooper on his security detail, who said he ran his hand or fingers across her stomach and her back.

Cuomo’s lawyer issued a written rebuttal to the investigation’s findings, arguing in most cases that serious allegations, like the alleged groping, didn’t happen, or that his actions were misconstrued.

“For those who are using this moment to score political points or seek publicity or personal gain. I say they actually discredit the legitimate sexual harassment victims that the law was designed to protect,” Cuomo said.

A California correctional officer has been sentenced to jail time after having sex with an inmate while she was on the job – and in front of other prisoners, according to local reports.

Tina Gonzalez, 27, was busted after Fresno County Sheriff’s Office workers received a tip about her relationship with a prisoner who was caught with a cellphone behind bars in 2019.

Her behavior was "something only a depraved mind can come up with," Fresno’s Assistant Sheriff Steve McComas told the judge, according to the Fresno Bee.

She had been on the job in 2016 and resigned a short time after authorities uncovered the scandal.

Gonzalez was accused of cutting a hole in her uniform to facilitate her intimate encounters with the inmate, which they reportedly had within the view of 11 other prisoners.

"She has shown no remorse," McComas told the Bee. "She continually calls and has sexually explicit conversations with the inmate in question and boasts about the crimes she carried out."

Gonzalez was sentenced to 210 days behind bars and two years of probation on felony charges of sexual activity by a detention facility employee with a consenting confined adult and possession of drugs or an alcoholic beverage in a jail facility. She had pleaded guilty to the charges in April.

Prosecutors had been seeking a 15-month sentence.

An attorney is pursuing criminal investigations in at least two states into allegations of sexual abuse & assault that he said his clients have made against rapper T.I. & Tameka “Tiny” Harris, who have repeatedly denied the claims.

The push comes weeks after the accusations arose against the rapper & his wife, & lawyer Tyrone A. Blackburn told The New York Times that he has approached law enforcement authorities on behalf of 11 people who claim to have been victimized by the couple or members of their entourage.

In a news release obtained by People magazine, Blackburn also stated that he has been contacted in recent weeks by more than 30 “women, survivors & witnesses” who alleged “forced drugging, kidnapping, rape & intimidation.”

The allegations span more than 15 years & are “eerily consistent,” the release stated.

The specific allegations include individuals who claim having been “coerced by Tiny to ingest drugs” or being “unknowingly administered drugs to impair the victims’ ability to consent to “sexual acts,” People reported.

According to the magazine, Blackburn has sent letters to officials in Georgia & California, requesting investigations be opened “under the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) & Georgia’s Rape, Kidnapping, RICO & Terroristic Threats Statutes.”

Meanwhile, 4 women told The New York Times that they were drugged or sexually assaulted by 40-year-old T.I., 45-year-old Tiny Harris or others “in their orbit.”

An attorney for the couple told the Times that both T.I. & Tiny Harris “deny in the strongest possible terms these baseless & unjustified allegations” & called the allegations “nothing more than the continuation of a sordid shakedown campaign that began on social media & now attempts to manipulate the press & misuse the justice system.”

Video After The Jump

Chicago’s top cop is again calling for community partnerships and additional investments in South and West Side neighborhoods after yet another violent weekend that saw 11 homicides and more than 60 people shot.

Chicago police Superintendent David Brown on Monday said he’s already planning to expand a new community policing initiative launched just last week to help grow relationships between police and residents, as gun violence continued to spike over the weekend.

“We should not be seen as an occupying force only there for enforcement,” Brown said during a press conference Monday morning. “So I would say standby. You’ll see community policing on steroids in this department.”

Between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday, 11 people were murdered and 53 others were wounded in 50 separate shooting incidents, according to Brown. Of those 64 total victims, six were children.

Among the weekend violence was a shooting in Englewood that left a 45-year-old man dead and three others injured Sunday night. A 20-year-old man was also killed and two teens were injured in a shooting late Sunday at a West Englewood gas station.

The violence continued into early Monday morning with at least two additional homicides: a 26-year-old man was shot and killed in North Lawndale at around 12:30 a.m., and a 27-year-old man was fatally shot in Woodlawn around 1:45 a.m.

Chicago police have recovered 5,100 illegal guns so far this year, Brown said, including 98 in the past week.

Brown’s press conferences have become a grim weekly occurrence as of late following spikes in gun violence weekend after weekend. At least 17 people were killed over the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Fourteen people, including three children, were killed the weekend prior to that, and through June, Chicago had matched it’s 2016 homicide pace – a year that finished with more than 760 murders citywide.

The CPD launched a new initiative Saturday with its Summer Mobile Patrol beginning to participate in community service projects every week across Chicago in what the department said is an effort to both tackle serious crimes and address the root causes of violence.

On Monday, Brown said he now wants that patrol to engage in service projects not just once a week, but every single day.

The superintendent has spoken repeatedly in recent weeks about the “open air drug markets” that he said are a main driver of violence and a “pipeline” into the criminal justice system. Brown said policing alone cannot solve these problems, and has called for additional investments and job opportunities in needy neighborhoods.

“If the biggest employer on the West Side for these young people is the drug market, the challenge and the answer is much more than policing,” he said.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot echoed those comments at a separate press conference Monday, but said the city has already begun investing in mental health, affordable housing and street outreach and intervention at “historic” levels.

“You look at the root causes of violence, this is generations of lack of investment. Generations where we really haven’t created real opportunities, particularly for young men of color, and they believe their destiny is on a (street) corner,” she said.

“We’re not gonna change that around in a few weeks, but I think the efforts that we are doing both on the short-term interventions, also the longer term strategy, we’re starting to see some difference. Is anybody satisfied with where we are? Of course not. So we’ve got to redouble our efforts.”

ST CHARLES, Mo. (WTHR) — A mother was charged after her 11-year-old daughter gave birth in a bathtub last week.

Lesbia Cante pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a charge of endangering the welfare of a child. In court Wednesday, her cash-only bail was increased to $100,000 from $10,000.

According to court documents, Cante and her husband, Francisco Javier Gonzalez-Lopez, took a newborn to St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles last week. The baby still had the umbilical cord and placenta attached and had a body temperature of 90 degrees.

Gonzalez-Lopez initially told police someone left the infant on his front porch. In an interview with detectives two days later, he told police the father of the child was his son, 17-year-old Norvin Leonidas Lopez-Cante, and the mother was the teen’s 11-year-old relative.

Gonzalez-Lopez said he did not know the girl was pregnant or that Lopez-Cante was raping her until she gave birth to the child in their bathtub.

After police read Lopez-Cante his Miranda rights, he told police he had sex with the girl about 100 times but did not know she was pregnant. He said he did not know when he first had sex with her but said it happened about twice a week.

Lopez-Cante was charged with first-degree statutory rape, statutory sodomy and incest. His bond was set at $25,000, cash-only.

Gonzalez-Lopez was charged with endangering the welfare of a child for his role in the incident. His bail was set at $10,000, cash only. Charging documents said he entered the country illegally and was previously deported.

According to Child Center Inc., the Child Advocacy Center of Northeast Missouri, Inc., 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are sexually abused before the age of 18.

They say 90% of the time, it’s by someone the child knows or has a relationship with. They call it the three L’s: it’s either by someone you like, love or live with.
