INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) -- Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler will join Randy Jackson as "American Idol" judges next season, after months of turnover and speculation about the future of TV's top-rated show.
With pomp rivaling that of a U.S. Supreme Court appointment, Fox finally assembled the new pieces of the "Idol" panel that will be returned to its original three-member format for season 10.
Actress-singer-dancer Lopez and Aerosmith frontman Tyler will have the job of trying to match the offbeat chemistry of former judges Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul.
The likely Lopez-Tyler pairing had been reported so frequently that Fox would have had to produce Betty White and 50 Cent instead to generate any surprise.
Cowell announced last January that he planned to leave to launch a new talent show for Fox in 2011, with newcomers Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi exiting this summer. Abdul left in 2009 over a contract dispute.
Jackson will be the only original judge when "American Idol" returns in January.
Lopez and Tyler could help "American Idol" reinvent itself for the new season, when it will try to stem a ratings slide and bring in younger viewers. The show's audience has been gradually aging, and advertisers prefer to pitch to young adults.
But Fox and the show's producers didn't match the new judges to the target audience when it comes to age: Lopez is 41 and Tyler is 62. Jackson is in the middle at age 54.
Lopez's films include "Selena," "The Wedding Planner" and most recently "The Back-Up Plan." She has appeared as a mentor on "American Idol."
She was part of the "Fly Girl" house dancers on the comedy show "In Living Color," in 1990, before becoming a backup dancer for Janet Jackson.
"On the 6," Lopez's first album, came out in 1999 and launched a career in pop, Latin, hip-hop and R&B. "Love?" is the latest CD from the Grammy winner, who has twins with husband Marc Anthony.
Tyler brings a colorful and tempestuous history with him. He's fought with his band mates, been in rehab for prescription drug abuse and took a fall off a stage in 2009 that forced cancellation of Aerosmith's summer tour.
"American Idol" was the nation's favorite program last season, the seventh time it's held that position. But it showed rare vulnerability, beaten in the weekly ratings several times by ABC's "Dancing With the Stars."
A total of 24.2 million viewers watched the ninth season's final duel between Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox, compared to the nearly 29 million viewers who saw Kris Allen claim victory over Adam Lambert last year.

Video After The JumpA lot of people think comedian Charlie Murphy got his start in show business on Dave Chappelle's Show, but Eddie Murphy's big brother was grinding long before that.
In this interview with Nardwuar, he talks about his early career.
Nardwuar: What was being in Sammy Davis Jr's last movie 'The Kid Who Loved Christmas' like?
Charlie Murphy: For me it was awesome..Actually is was awesome to a flaw, because I was so happy it was Sammy Davis Jr, I was like 'It's Sammy!' and he was sick. So I think I was a nuisance. Like 'who is this bubbly guy that keeps coming around?' and he was feeling horrible.
There was a hamster in that movie called Molly. Eddie Murphy put a hamster in one of his other movies. Did you have a hamster growing up called Molly?
CM: No because we realized that hamsters are actually mice, with afros.
I mentioned you movie career, but you also have and had a rap career. What can you tell me about the K9 Posse?
CM: I produced it, I wrote on it, I just didn't rap. I wish I would have rapped, but we had a lot of fun doing K9.Charlie Murphy, sweat on my?
CM: Balls! CB4, there goes another one. Represents a very colorful and illustrious career. When you auditioned for CB4, is it true that you showed up with a gun, with bullets?
CM: Yes and I'm not saying anyone else should do that, but this is why it happened. I went in and I did the normal audition. And Chris Rock called me up that night and said 'that was excellent, tomorrow when you come back for that callbakc I only have one suggestion, I want to be even meaner that you was today.' And I thought 'woo that was pretty mean, how you gonna top that? I guess I'm gonna have to bullets in the gun for real this time.' So the next day I went in with a 9MM. I popped the clip in, in front of them to let them see it was it was bullets, jacked it and pointed it at Chris Rock which was very crazy.
Charlie goes on to talk about working with Redd Foxx, Dave Chappelle knocking out a bull, being on the air with 50 Cent, Eminem and DJ Whoo Kid. Also Sarah Palin's tight fitting jeans and his greatest hip hop moment.

Video After The JumpClinton Sparks' catch phrase is "get familiar", but Eminem wasn't having it during an interview with the dj,
Sparks pranked the Detroit rapper by appearing to have an extra large package. At one point, Clinton raises himself up high out of his chair, forcing Eminem to look away like "wtf?"
Clinton asks if there was a reason he wasn't looking at him.
"I was trying to ignore it, because I was trying to be courteous," Eminem says. "But what the f*ck are you doing?"
At that point, the cat was out of the bag obviously. The two threw a couple more jokes at each other and that was that.

Video After The JumpCarmelo Anthony's wish list starts with the New York Knicks, but that's not the only trade destination he's targeting.
Sources briefed on the state of Anthony's ongoing push to be dealt by the Denver Nuggets told ESPN.com on Tuesday that the Chicago Bulls are a firm 1A on his list. This is partly attributed to the fact that the Bulls are much closer to assembling the sort of package Denver would want in return for its franchise player than the Knicks.
Over the last 72 hours, sources said, Anthony's representatives -- headed by agent Leon Rose -- have been ramping up the pressure on the Nuggets to complete a deal with the Knicks or the Bulls before training camps open leaguewide next week.
Sources say that Denver officials, however, are not inclined to rush into anything. ESPN.com reported Sunday night that the Nuggets, in recent days, have been telling interested teams for the first time that they are willing to field offers for Anthony after resisting such inquiries for weeks.
But even as the Nuggets have opted to see what sort of haul can be had for their high-scoring forward, there remains strong sentiment within the organization to slow the process down in hopes of mounting one last campaign to win back Anthony's support.
The Nuggets, sources said, are clinging to the hope that Anthony might reconsider his trade-me stance once he starts hearing some Denver-friendly voices upon reporting to camp after weeks of isolation from the organization.
Anthony will be greeted by the likes of head coach George Karl and trusted teammate Chauncey Billups trying to convince the 26-year-old that his current team is not far away from a return to contention in the Western Conference and that the foundation of the group that reached the West finals in 2009 should not be scrapped.
Yet sources say that the message from Anthony's camp to the Nuggets has stayed consistent: New York and Chicago are the preferred landing spots, with New Jersey and Houston also still in the conversation.
The Nets remain a viable option because of their planned move to Brooklyn and because the Nets have what several rival executives believe to be the deepest cache of assets to satisfy Denver's trade demands in its worst-case scenario.
Though the Rockets are the fourth known team in the Anthony sweepstakes, multiple sources close to the situation insisted Friday that Houston is not making guard Kevin Martin part of the discussions. The Nuggets, sources maintain, would expect a combination of expiring contracts, future first-round draft picks and at least one marketable young talent if they ultimately concede that Anthony must be traded between now and the February trading deadline.
The Nuggets have offered Anthony, who can become a free agent next July, a three-year extension worth $65 million.
ESPN.com reported Monday that the Nets are widely regarded in NBA front-office circles as the frontrunner for Anthony. New Jersey is reportedly willing to package No. 3 overall pick Derrick Favors with the expiring contracts of Troy Murphy and Kris Humphries and at least one future first-rounder.
It's believed that the Nets, though, would insist on Anthony agreeing to a contract extension as part of the trade -- as Kevin Garnett did when Minnesota sent him to Boston in the summer of 2007 -- before they agree to surrender assets such as Favors and draft picks.
The Bulls could theoretically trump any New Jersey offer if they were willing to include center Joakim Noah as part of a deal for Anthony. Sources with knowledge of Chicago's thinking, however, have maintained for days that the Bulls are strongly against the inclusion of Noah, revealing instead that Chicago has offered a package featuring Luol Deng, Taj Gibson and one future first-rounder.
Playing alongside former Team USA teammate Amare Stoudemire in New York is thought to hold the greatest appeal to Anthony, something Stoudemire openly discussed earlier in the summer. The Knicks, though, simply lack the draft picks to sweeten a package that sources say would be centered around Eddy Curry's expiring contract and either Danilo Gallinari or Anthony Randolph -- but not both of those young players.
The Knicks, Bulls and Nets all stand to benefit from Denver's determination to send Anthony out of the Western Conference if it decides there is no alternative apart from trading him, but sources close to the process note that a third team would almost certainly have to be recruited to help facilitate a deal.
Reports have persisted for weeks that Anthony, wielding the hammer of his potential free agency in the wake of the defections of LeBron James and Chris Bosh to Miami, wants out. ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher reported Aug. 16 that it was "a matter of when, not if, Anthony and the Nuggets will go their separate ways."
But Anthony has not made any such declarations publicly, announcing Tuesday night via his Twitter feed: "Everyone has [their] own opinion. It's funny. It cracks me up."
Yet Anthony did add in a follow-up tweet: "When I know something ... you guys will know something."

The internet is buzzing today with rumors that Def Jam Chairman, L.A. Reid has been fired.
Reid has been responsible for signing acts like Mariah Carey, Justin Bieber, Pink and Outkast. However, profits in the recording industry have been slipping, and his signing of rapper Shyne, to a seven figure deal might have done him in.
There are various reports that The-Dream has been given his walking papers as well.
If the reports do to out to be true, look for Reid to bounce back in a major way with a deal somewhere else. His track record in the business for finding and nurturing talent has been superb.

Aretha Franklin's middle-aged son was undergoing emergency surgery on Tuesday after being severely beaten at a gas station in Detroit on Monday night, according to reports.
Two men and a woman assaulted Eddie Franklin, 52, at a station near Plymouth and Evergreen, the Queen of Soul's spokeswoman tells the Detroit News.
Other details were scarce. The female suspect appeared to be about 19 years old, and one of the men had dreadlocks. All three were African American.
An unidentified person at the station took Franklin to an area hospital and then filed a police report, according to authorities. Word of Franklin's condition was not immediately available.
Aretha Franklin, 68, who had Eddie when she was 16, is one of the most decorated singers of all time, having won 20 Grammy Awards.

50 Cent has launched a Twitter account for his dog Oprah. The In Da Club rapper joined the social networking site recently and has since made various strange announcements- including claiming he’s getting married. But perhaps his weirdest move so far is to start tweeting as OprahTheDog!Yesterday he posted a pic of the cute mutt’ with a bandaged leg saying: “The b**ch gonna be alright. I took her to the doctor.”Soon after he started having a public er, ‘conversation’ with the miniature schnauzer. She wrote to him:“motherf***er 50 almost stepped on me this morning and he knew I was at the foot of the bed. and he always calling me for nothing!! he aint made a classic since get rich or die tryin.”Fiddy later posted a pic of him holding a knife near the dog, which unsurprisingly upset animal rights group PETA.The star responded to the criticism in no uncertain terms, writing: “Now this is to the Peta people: Stay off my motherfucking twitter page I don't give a f***!”Previously 50 Cent has given advice to President Obama and criticised Kanye West on Twitter. Video After The JumpENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Denver Broncos wide receiver Kenny McKinley was found dead in his home Monday in an apparent suicide.Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said authorities were called to McKinley's home in Centennial at 3:35 p.m. local time and found his body in the second-floor master bedroom. He said detectives believe McKinley, 23, was killed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Robinson said authorities were called by a female friend of McKinley's who discovered the body after returning from an errand with his child. The sheriff declined to say if authorities found a suicide note.
"It's still part of our investigation and probably nothing we'll talk about right now," he said.
McKinley's death is the latest in a series of tragedies for the Broncos in recent years. Cornerback Darrent Williams was slain in a drive-by shooting on New Year's Day 2007 and three months later backup running back Damien Nash collapsed and died after a charity basketball game in St. Louis.
"Everyone with the Broncos is shocked and saddened by the loss of Kenny McKinley," team owner Pat Bowlen said in a statement. "He was part of the Broncos' family and will be greatly missed by our organization. My most heartfelt condolences go out to Kenny's family and friends."
The Broncos said coach Josh McDaniels would meet with the media on Tuesday.
In a statement, McDaniels said: "Kenny had a promising future on the football field, but more importantly, he was a great teammate whose smile and personality could light up the room. This is a tragic loss for our football team, and his family is in all of our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."
McKinley was a second-year pro who was on the team's injured reserve list. He played in eight games as a rookie in 2009 with seven kick returns for 158 yards before going on IR with a left knee injury on Dec. 29.
He recovered and participated in the team's offseason workouts but got hurt again during the first week of training camp and was placed on IR with a different left knee injury on Aug. 5.
McKinley's agent Andrew Bondarowicz told ESPN.com's Bill Williamson that he spoke with the wideout last week but that there were no obvious signs of despair.
"Kenny was a pretty easy-going guy," Bondarowicz said. "I do know that being on the injured reserve was hard on him and it weighed on him ... but there was nothing to suggest anything like this. It's a shock that caught us by surprise."
McKinley was a fifth-round draft choice out of South Carolina in 2009. He attended South Cobb High School in Austell, Ga.
McKinley remains South Carolina's all-time leading receiver with 207 catches for 2,781 yards. He came back to the school earlier this month, watched the Gamecocks beat Georgia 17-6 and visited with his college coach, Steve Spurrier.
"Had a wonderful smile just like he always did," Spurrier said.
The news of McKinley's death spread quickly at the end of South Carolina's practice Monday. Players who normally sprint off the field upbeat walked slowly with their heads down.
"Kenny was certainly one of my all-time favorite players. It's hard to figure out why it happened like this," Spurrier said.
Several Broncos players were attending a fundraiser Monday night in honor of Williams.
Cornerback Champ Bailey and former NFL star John Lynch headlined the wine-tasting VIP event to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Denver, home of the Darrent Williams Memorial Teen Center.
Bailey told The Associated Press last week that it was an opportunity for fans and friends to celebrate the life of the player they called D-Will, especially after so much attention was focused on the trial earlier this year in which Willie Clark, 26, was convicted of first-degree murder of Williams after a confrontation at a nightclub. Clark was sentenced in April to life in prison plus 1,152 years.
"It's time to remember the way D-Will lived and not the way he died," Bailey said last week.
The Broncos, who beat Seattle 31-14 on Sunday, hustled out of their Dove Valley practice facilities Monday night, many of them headed to the charity event unaware of the latest tragedy to befall the franchise.
Players leaving the event said they didn't want to comment on McKinley's death.
At McKinley's home in a subdivision in the southern Denver suburbs, a bouquet of flowers wrapped in purple was propped against the door Monday night.

VIBE: Whoever talked 50 into taking over his Twitter account truly created a monster.DJ Whoo Kid: I think he got the new iPhone and they put the [Twitter] app on there. And then Yayo was talking about 'go on' and he just started wildin’ out. Once he saw how easy it was, that was it. Because before, he had a Blackberry, he didn’t really care too much about going online. Whatever he needed to promote, he had somebody promoting it. But now he has it in the palm of his hands, and he’s going bezerk. He cursed me out on there like twice. I’m like a fucking human punching bag on Twitter. But it’s all good because the more they curse me out, the more followers I get.He cursed out Perez Hilton the other day, too.
This is like a nightmare now that he has 3 million followers, and I’m assuming he’s trying to break the 5 million follower capacity. But making him mad and he has Twitter is a nightmare , so I would suggest not to go at him too tough. Leave him alone. Because basically whatever he says on Twitter, everybody knows.
It seems like G-Unit is gearing up for a comeback with this EMI deal. It’s been a long time. We’ve been waiting to put some crazy hot shit out. But we’re just going with the times, transforming ourselves so we can mix in. You can’t go wrong with the music we have. Even the 50 Cent leaks are crazy. The remix he did with Jeremih, that shit is outta here. And that’s just him fucking around. I was like, that’s a real record, what are you doing right now.
Other artists are reaching out now, too. Kanye just put Banks in his top five. Is there a G-Unit/G.O.O.D. Music collabo in the works?
It’s cool to receive respect from Kanye due to the fact that he’s lyrical too. Lyrical dudes have respect for other lyrical dudes. Banks is always talking to Fab, he’s always talking to dudes that have lyrical skill, Jay Rock to—everybody that spits bars, they all talk to each other.
But are they actually going to work together?I guess that opened up the doorway—[50 and Kanye] have been talking about working together since a couple months ago—we all roll out together in a Euro tour. It’s the media that be hyping up all the beef and stupidity. But the real story is behind the scenes on how these dudes be talking. Because I been heard about this shit. We’ll wait and see what happens with Banks and ‘Ye, but he also said recently that you were on “timeout,” and that he wouldn’t be doing any mixtapes with you for a minute. What’s good with that?Banks said recently that you were on “timeout,” and that he wouldn’t be doing any mixtapes with you for a minute. What’s good with that? He’s always fucking with me on Twitter. I’m assuming that’s because I sent a message to him about 50 saying that he used to date a midget. He got pissed off on Twitter. That’s just Twitter nonsense. We’ve been working on a mixtape. He’s done a whole bunch of songs already but we’re already too close to the drop date to drop a mixtape. We just want people to concentrate on Hunger For More 2.So after the album you’ll probably do something?
It depends. We’re both always away. I got my 25-country birthday tour and he gets booked ridiculously off two singles. So scheduling alone is a nightmare. It’s good, we cant complain. We’re both doing good. He’s getting booked overseas more than a lot of artists I know. Are you working with anyone else on a mixtape?A lot of the mixtapes I’m doing now are being mixed down and in due time will come out. But I’m just leaking like one song at a time, promoting each situation. Me and Wyclef, we’re doing a mixtape. It’s going to be a lot of features. Other than that, a lot Tech N9ne and Snoop and Gucci Mane, I have nine or 10 mixtapes I’m doing at once. I always work in intervals and I just dump them all at once and then I just disappear.
Tell us about the Wyclef mixtape. We’re working on it right now. We did like 5 or 6 joints on it. And there are some crazy featuers on there. You’re going to be surprised. It’s gonna be probably 40 percent Haiti dedication and 60 percent Wyclef Fugee returns with the Haitian killer Whoo Kid. All original production—I got Ski Beatz, Red Spyda, Cookin Soul. Shout out to Alchemist. We’re going to make it some sick shit. We’re going to do videos and all kinds of nonsense. On some Haitian general shit. Clef is yapping with a couple cats right now like T.I. and a couple other dudes, but we’re working it out.Sounds dope. When is that dropping?Probably before Halloween. It’s going to be crazy.
Tech N9ne’s been buzzing crazy, especially since Wayne gave him props. He has a ridiculous fan base. And this is his first mixtape. I introduced Snoop to the mixtape phenomenon and all these other cats on the West Coast. They didn’t understand why you have to do a mixtape and give it away for free. So I had to fly there and explain to them. And I did the same thing with Tech. He’s always in the studio, doing songs over. When’s his mixtape dropping?Tech9 one will be out around the same time as Wyclef, before Halloween. It’s called Bad Season. So far we have E-40, Jay Rock, Too Short. I’ma have Snoop on there. We’re going to have a whole bunch of people, like, West Coast niggas. And then I’m possibly going to have Banks on there, too. It’s going to be on some sick shit.

As previously reported here on PaperChaserDotCom, Richard "Syco Sam" McCroskey killed 4 people last year in Virginia. Today (September 20) he plead guilty to all four murders.Video After The JumpFARMVILLE, VIRGINIA -- The suspect in the quadruple homicide that horrified this quiet college town a year ago pleaded guilty to murder charges today and was ordered to spend life in prison.
Richard Samuel Alden McCroskey III, 21, of California, pleaded guilty to two counts of capital murder and two counts of first-degree murder in Prince Edward County Circuit Court for bludgeoning the victims with a wood-splitting maul a year ago in a Longwood University professor's home in Farmville.
McCroskey, who could have faced the death penalty, was sentenced to life in prison. He opted not to address the courtroom, which was occupied by family members of all four victims, law enforcement investigators and others.
Prince Edward County Commonwealth's Attorney James Ennis said McCroskey's anger about his relationship with his girlfriend, Emma Niederbrock, 16, led to the killings. McCroskey killed Emma; her mother, Longwood University professor Debra S. Kelley; Kelley's estranged husband, Mark Niederbrock; and Emma's friend, Melanie Wells, who was visiting from West Virginia.
Ennis said members of the victims' families supported his decision to reach the plea agreement instead of going to trial and seeking the death penalty.
"What it really means is death in prison," Ennis said after the hearing. "It's a guaranteed outcome, and hopefully it will bring some measure of closure to the family."
Defense attorney Cary Bowen said his objective had been to minimize McCroskey's punishment and serve his interest as best as possible.
"He's left families without their loved ones," Bowen said. "There are four people dead here. He's not proud of that."
He said McCroskey is remorseful and has contemplated the severity of what he did.
A family spokeswoman released a statement from Kelley's parents, Thomas and Margaret Kelley, saying they are thankful that the case is over and that they may now "have some degree of closure." They also thanked police and everyone who supported them.
"We have endured a tragedy of unspeakable proportion," the statement reads. "We are relieved that justice has been done. While we will never forget our loved ones or the circumstances of their deaths, we hope to move forward and begin the healing process."

Other family members did not wish to comment, the spokeswoman said.
McCroskey, who recorded "horrorcore" rap music with lyrics that obsessed about murder and graphic violence, had been in an online relationship with Emma for about a year when he came to visit her in September of last year, Ennis said.
Kelley and Mark Niederbrock took Emma, McCroskey and Wells to a horrorcore music festival several days before McCroskey killed them. Ennis said McCroskey was angered by some text messages Emma sent while they were in Michigan.
They returned to Virginia, and McCroskey became increasingly distraught about the relationship, Ennis said. He had an expectation that he and Emma were seeing each other exclusively and was unhappy with how things were going, Ennis said.
Late in the evening of Sept. 14, 2009, or early the next morning, McCroskey drank beer, smoked marijuana and might have taken painkillers before he attacked the three female victims in the house as they were sleeping, Ennis said. He killed each within a short period of time around 3 a.m. on Sept. 15.
Ennis said that McCroskey first killed Wells, who was on a sofa in a first-floor den, then Kelley in an upstairs room, and finally Emma in her downstairs bedroom. He struck each victim multiple times with the maul.
"No one awoke," Ennis said, adding that the victims had no defensive wounds.
Mark Niederbrock arrived at the home Sept. 17 about 5 p.m., and McCroskey attacked him with the maul in a living room, Ennis said. McCroskey later moved Mark Niederbrock's and Wells' bodies into Emma's room, and he attempted to clean up the bloody den, Ennis said.
At some point, McCroskey used a digital camera to record a video of himself, Ennis said. In the video, he indicated that he knew he had to pay for what he had done and contemplated suicide, Ennis said.
The bodies were discovered in the home Sept. 18, and McCroskey was captured the next day at Richmond International Airport as he awaited a flight home to California
