A report that Jon Gruden used a racist comment about NFL Players Association leader DeMaurice Smith in an email 10 years ago drew a strong & quick rebuke Friday from the NFL.

A Wall Street Journal story noted that Gruden, then working for ESPN and now coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, referred in a racist way to Smith’s facial features.

“The email from Jon Gruden denigrating DeMaurice Smith is appalling, abhorrent and wholly contrary to the NFL’s values,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said. “We condemn the statement & regret any harm that its publication may inflict on Mr. Smith or anyone else.”

The league is looking into the matter & a person familiar with that probe told said that disciplinary action is possible for Gruden.

Gruden’s comment in an email to then-Washington Football Team President Bruce Allen came during the 2011 lockout of the players by the NFL. Gruden told the newspaper he was angry about the lockout during labor negotiations & he didn’t trust the direction the union was taking. He also apologized for the remark.

“Dumboriss Smith has lips the size of michellin tires,” Gruden wrote in the email.

Raiders owner Mark Davis said in a statement Gruden’s email does not reflect the team’s standards.

“The content of an email regarding DeMaurice Smith from Jon Gruden when he worked for ESPN 10 years ago is disturbing & not what the Raiders stand for,” Davis said. “We were first made aware of the email late yesterday by a reporter & are reviewing it along with other materials provided to us today by the NFL. We are addressing the matter with Coach Gruden & will have no further comment at this time.”

Gruden defended his resume on racial equality & inclusion while admitting his email went “too far.”

Video After The Jump

BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) — A man walked into a Florida sheriff’s office and confessed to killing a woman a decade ago because he “found Jehovah and couldn’t live with the guilt anymore,” officials said.

Benjamin Moulton, 43, told Manatee County sheriff’s investigators Wednesday that he killed Nicole Scott of Sarasota in 2011 and left her body in a remote area, according to an arrest report. He told investigators he killed her in a fit of rage and provided other details about her death that were never made public, the report said.

On Dec. 11, 2011, a man found Scott’s body in a wooded area and called 911, the report said. Deputies responding to the scene said she was partially clothed and had visible trauma to her face.

An autopsy found that she had been strangled and likely dropped off several days before her body was found, the report said.

During an investigation into her death, deputies followed up on numerous leads and even questioned Moulton, who denied any involvement in her death. Detectives lacked enough evidence to link him to the crime back then, the report said.

Moulton has been charged with first-degree murder. An investigation into the case is continuing. The report didn’t say why Moulton was originally questioned.

A$AP Mob, Sony Music Entertainment, and Fader Media Network are being sued in New York County Supreme Court by a stage manager who is claiming he was beat up during a 2011 FADER Fort show.

Anthony Montalbano, who works for Best Instrument Rental, the company hired by Fader Media for the event claims he was attacked by A$AB Mob. He says the group "shouted obscenities indicating their dissatisfaction with the microphones and damaged musical instruments and equipment that was on the stage."

According to Courthouse News, the band started breaking the sound equipment at one point. Montalbano says he was told by Fader Media Network to go save the equipment, but was not provided with security.

"Plaintiff was then grabbed by the defendants and continuously punched in the face and head for several minutes and said defendants hit plaintiff in the head with a microphone," the complaint states. "Plaintiff was covered in blood and sustained serious and lasting injuries, including but not limited to an open scalp wound, concussion, abrasions, lacerations and pain in his head, neck, back, knees and ribs."

Montalbano says three band members were charged with assault and that he needed 10 stitches to close a wound in his scalp.

He is seeking "compensatory and punitive damages for negligent hiring, emotional distress, assault and battery and negligence."

Hip Hop was well represented at Billboard's seventh annual Women in Music event held in New York on Friday December 2.

While Taylor Swift took home the big prize of Women of the Year, Nicki Minaj landed the award for Rising Star of 2011. During her acceptance speech Nicki got emotional as she thanked her fans.

"I just know that I'm incredibly grateful and thankful for a couple of little kids... maybe a few million, I call them my Barbz. And I know they're not in here, but I know they'll hear me say this. Barbz I love you so much for being by my side for such a long time," Nicki said before starting to cry.

Nicki was later interviewed by ABC's Robin Roberts. Check that out below.

Video After The Jump

After all the votes were counted Machine Gun Kelly has been named MTV's Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2011. The award caps off what has been a meteoric rise for MGK, who built up such a cult following in his home state of Ohio it got the attention of major labels. After the dust settled MGK signed with Diddy and Bad Boy Records in August 2011 and he hasn't looked back since.

"I can't explain how grateful I am for all those kids who sat there and got in voting circles and sat there for hours and hours and did votes upon votes," MGK told MTV. "I know that we have probably the least amount of fans, but like I told my fans: Heart is always gonna prevail over connections and who these people know and who tweets what."

Check out the final rankings below as voted by the fans.

10. Freddie Gibbs

9. French Montana

8. Future

7. A$AP Rocky

6. Roscoe Dash

5. Kendrick Lamar

4. Meek Mill

3. Mac Miller

2. Lil Twist

1. Machine Gun Kelly

Next up for Kelly is his Bad Boy debut album Lace Up, due in 2012.
