Washington (CNN) Two "high profile" ISIS targets were killed and another was injured in a US drone strike in Afghanistan, the Pentagon said Saturday, a retaliatory step following the terrorist attack that killed 13 US service members and at least 170 others outside Kabul's international airport.

"I can confirm, as more information has come in, that two high-profile ISIS targets were killed, and one was wounded. And we know of zero civilian casualties," Maj. Gen. Hank Taylor, deputy director of the Joint Staff For Regional Operations, said in a news conference Saturday. "Without specifying any future plans, I will say that we will continue to have the ability to defend ourselves and to leverage over-the-horizon capability to conduct counterterrorism operations as needed."

Pentagon spokesperson John Kirby said all the targets were hit in a single strike, and that they were "ISIS-K planners and facilitators."

A US defense official told CNN earlier Saturday that one of the individuals was believed to be "associated with potential future attacks at the airport." The US located him and "had sufficient eyes on and sufficient knowledge" to strike, the official said, adding that he "was a known entity" but that the US is not calling him a "senior" ISIS-K operative.

The individual was in a compound in the Jalalabad area, another defense official told CNN, and new intelligence following the terrorist attack in Kabul was firmed up to give justification for the strike. The source said surveillance continued on the compound until the target's wife and children left before the US conducted the targeted drone strike.

"I'm not going to talk about specific capabilities ISIS may have lost in this strike. They lost a planner, and they lost a facilitator. And they have one wounded. The fact two of these individuals are no longer walking on the face of the Earth, that's a good thing," Kirby said Saturday.

"It is a good thing for the people of Afghanistan, it's a good thing for our troops and our forces at that airfield."

The announcement of the strike came a day after President Joe Biden vowed to retaliate for the terrorist attack in Kabul even as he said the frantic mission to airlift Americans from Afghanistan would continue. Biden approved the strike on the ISIS-K planner, according to an official familiar with the matter.

"We will not forgive. We will not forget. We will hunt you down and make you pay," the President said in remarks from the White House on Thursday.

Port-au-Prince, Haiti (CNN) A tropical storm system is threatening to unleash flash flooding and mudslides on the area of Haiti where a 7.2-magnitude earthquake killed almost 1,300 people on Saturday.

Tropical Depression Grace was approaching the southern coast of Hispaniola, the island comprising Haiti and the Dominican Republic, early Monday bringing with it sustained winds of 35 mph, and higher gusts, CNN meteorologist Haley Brink said.

Tropical storm conditions are possible in the Dominican Republic and Haiti later today, Brink said, adding that several inches of rain are forecast -- with up to 15 inches possible in some isolated areas -- through Tuesday.

"I am worried about the upcoming storm as it can complicate the situation for us," Jerry Chandler, head of Haiti's civil protection agency, said on Sunday.

The agency reported at least 1,297 people dead and more than 5,700 injured on Sunday. Those numbers are expected to rise as search and rescue efforts continue.

The quake destroyed 13,694 homes and damaged another 13,785, officials from the agency said.

The destruction has also pushed hospitals to the brink and blocked roads, making it difficult for vital supplies to reach the affected areas.

"We really need help, yesterday I was helping at the hospital and things were out of control," a volunteer named Marcelin Lorejoie told CNN on Sunday.

"Not enough doctors, not enough medicines and we have people with serious injuries. We need urgent help before things (get) more complicated."

Authorities are going from house to house in search of survivors -- efforts which demand a tremendous amount of resources.

At the site of one collapsed hotel, a CNN team saw just one excavator, which was not working at the time. There was no police or security presence nearby, as people carried air conditioning units away from the wrecked building.

The earthquake struck at 8:30 a.m. local time on Saturday, at a depth of about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles); its epicenter was about 7.5 miles northeast of Saint-Louis-du-Sud in the southwest part of the country.

That location is about 60 miles west of the epicenter of the disastrous 7.0-magnitude quake that killed an estimated 220,000 to 300,000 people in 2010.

Video After The Jump

Two police officers in Colorado were arrested Tuesday after disturbing video showed one of them using his gun to repeatedly hit an unarmed man on his head, choke him, and threaten to shoot him, as the man bled from his head and pleaded for his life.

The other officer was accused of failing to stop her colleague from using excessive force.

"You're killing me, bro!" Kyle Vinson, 29, cried out multiple times after Aurora police officer John Haubert pistol-whipped him several times while trying to place him in custody following a trespassing call on Friday afternoon.

The graphic video showed streaks of blood running down Vinson's head while he gasped for air and cried that he couldn't breathe, as Haubert yelled, "If you move, I will shoot you."

"Don't hurt me," Vinson pleaded with the officers. "Don't shoot me, bro."

Haubert, 39, was arrested on charges of attempted first degree assault, second degree assault, felony menacing, official oppression, and first degree official misconduct.

The three-year veteran of the Aurora police department has been put on administrative leave without pay pending an expedited internal affairs investigation.

Officer Francine Martinez, a six-year veteran, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of failing to intervene and report use of force by a police officer, as is required by a police accountability bill that was passed after George Floyd's murder last summer. She has been put on administrative leave with pay. Both officers have bonded out of jail, authorities said.

The Aurora police department released body camera footage of the incident Tuesday with police chief Vanessa Wilson criticizing the two officers for what she called a "very despicable act."

"We're disgusted, we're angry," Wilson said a press conference Tuesday. "This is not police work. We don't train this... this was a criminal act," she said.

Wilson apologized to Vinson, calling him the victim of a "horrific" act. She said that when she saw the body camera footage she welled up with tears and anger.

"This video will shock your conscience," the chief said. "It's very disturbing."

The two officers responded to a call for trespassing on Friday when they encountered three men, all of whom had outstanding arrest warrants. When two of the men fled the area, Haubert immediately pointed his gun at Vinson who remained sitting on the ground and did not resist.

The video shows Haubert and Martinez attempting to arrest Vinson, who repeatedly yells that he did not have a warrant and didn't know why he was being put into handcuffs.

"We don't believe he knew that he actually had an existing warrant," Wilson said at the press conference. Vinson had allegedly failed to submit urine tests, did not complete treatment for court-ordered domestic violence counseling, and failed to report to probation meetings, the AP reported.

The two officers order Vinson to roll onto his stomach with his face pressed to the ground while Haubert keeps his gun pressed against Vinson's head, the video shows.

"You guys have the wrong guy," Vinson is heard telling the officers.

"Help, help," he shouts out before Haubert begins hitting his head with a gun during the struggle.

After other officers arrive at the scene, Vinson is heard begging for water.

"I was just fighting for my life, man," he is heard saying. "You guys beat me up."

"I was going to shoot him but I didn't know if I had a round in it or not," Haubert told a sergeant after the incident, according to court documents obtained by the Associated Press.

Authorities said Vinson had several large welts and an abrasion on his head that required six stitches.

The Aurora police chief called for peace in the city and urged the community not to paint the police department with a "broad brush."

The department has a history of excessive force allegations, most notably for the in-custody death of 23-year-old Elijah McClain in August 2019.

McClain, a Black man, died after officers placed him in a chokehold and injected him with ketamine while arresting him for acting "suspicious" during his walk home from a grocery store.

Last August, Aurora police officers apologized for holding a Black family at gunpoint and handcuffing them facedown on a hot concrete parking lot after mistaking their car for a stolen vehicle.

During Tuesday's press conference, Wilson attempted to reassure the community that her department was focused on reform and training and that officers would be fired "if this is how they police."

"This was an anomaly," she said. "And I'm just thankful Mr. Vinson is alive."

CHICAGO (AP) — Two Chicago brothers have been charged in a weekend shooting during a traffic stop that left one police officer dead and another seriously wounded, the Chicago Police Department announced in a Monday press release.

Emonte Morgan, 21, is charged with first-degree murder in Saturday’s fatal shooting of 29-year-old officer Ella French, as well as attempted murder and other charges. Eric Morgan, 22, faces charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and obstruction of justice.

They and a woman were in a vehicle stopped by police on Chicago’s South Side Saturday night when gunfire erupted. The one-page release offered no details about why the vehicle was stopped or what unfolded before the shooting started.

Officers had stopped a vehicle Saturday with two men and a woman inside just after 9 p.m., when a male passenger opened fire, Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said Sunday. Officers returned fire, striking the passenger who appeared to fire at them, Brown said.

The brothers are scheduled to appear in a Cook County bond court on Tuesday.

French’s death was the first fatal shooting of a Chicago officer in the line of duty since 2018 and the first female officer fatally shot on the job in 33 years. The Chicago Police Department’s Facebook page said Sunday that French’s wounded partner remained in “hospital fighting for his life.”

Chicago has for years sought to stem the inflow of guns that has helped fueled persistently high homicide rates in the city, especially from nearby states like Indiana, where guns rules aren’t as stringent.

The U.S. attorney’s office highlighted how the the Department of Justice has made stemming illegal gun trafficking a high priority.

“Straw purchasers and firearm traffickers enable violence with deadly consequences,” U.S. Attorney John Lausch said in a statement.

CALERA, Okla. (KXII) - The names of those dead after a double murder suicide in Calera last Friday have been released, and the victim’s family is asking for help in sharing their story.

While the FBI continues to investigate what happened on Choctaw Road last week, the victim’s family shares a cautionary message for other domestic violence victims.

Calera police found 31-year-old Tiffani Hill and 42-year-old John Donato dead in their home along with their one-year-old daughter Leanne seriously injured from a gunshot wound. She later died.

Hill’s family reached out to Durant attorney, Theresa McGehee, who used to represent the family to share their story.

“Tiffani never reached out to me about anything of that nature but I did speak with her mom. And her mom wants the message that Tiffani was trying to get away from it,” said McGehee.

In November 2020, Hill won over $2 million from a California lottery ticket. A few months later she married Donato, and the family moved to Calera.

“Could that have sparked that argument? We’ll never have any way of knowing. But I do know there were times it caused conflict between them,” said McGehee.

Any money left by the couple will be put into a trust fund for the surviving children. The 3 other children in the home at the time are safe and in state custody for now.

Hill’s family said domestic violence is to blame. Hill told them her plans to escape.

“Statistically that is the most dangerous time for anyone involved in domestic violence is around that time of separation,” said McGehee.

McGehee said Hill did the right thing by talking to her family, but things may have been different if local professionals got involved.

“The sadness is there are resources that people don’t reach out for. Bryan County has a great crisis control center. I know Grayson County has a great center,” said McGehee.

All her family can do now is share her story. They’re asking for any help from the community for burial and future custody expenses.

“She hopes somebody’s listening and will think this could be me next, this could be me and my child,” said McGehee.

The Medical Examiner’s office reports the cause of death as gunshot wounds to the head.

CORONA, Calif. (AP) — Police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting that killed an 18-year-old woman and seriously wounded a 19-year-old social media influencer as they watched “The Forever Purge” at a Southern California movie theater.

Authorities say there is no known motive for the violence and that the shooting Monday appeared to be “an unprovoked attack.”

The teens were found by theater workers cleaning up after the 9:35 p.m. showing of the violent horror movie at The Crossings mall in Corona, southeast of Los Angeles.

Rylee Goodrich was fatally shot, and Anthony Barajas remained on life support Wednesday. Barajas, known online as itsanthonymichael, has nearly a million followers on TikTok and more on other platforms.

The suspect acted alone, and there’s no indication he knew the victims or that Barajas’ role as a TikTok influencer played a role in the crime, Corona police Cpl. Tobias Kouroubacalis told reporters Wednesday.

“It was completely unprovoked, and the victims were shot without any kind of prior contact,” he said.

The suspect, 20-year-old Joseph Jimenez, was booked in jail Tuesday night on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and robbery. He is being held on $2 million bail.

A firearm that matched the caliber of the weapon used in the shooting was found at his home. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney who could speak on his behalf.

Witness accounts and an anonymous tip led detectives to Jimenez, Kouroubacalis said.

There was a small audience for that showing of the movie, with only six tickets purchased, Kouroubacalis said.

ATLANTA (WSB-TV 2) — The Atlanta Police Department confirmed Monday that a sergeant in their department is on unpaid suspension after video posted to social media showed an appeared to show him kicking a woman in the head.

According to the Instagram post that accompanied the video that was posted on Monday, police were called out to an apartment complex in the Summerhill neighborhood for a domestic incident.

The video shows a woman on her stomach in handcuffs when a male officer then appears to kick her in the head.

“Upon reviewing the video, the actions of the sergeant appear to be unacceptable, and we are also concerned with the apparent lack of reaction from another officer present during the incident,” Atlanta police said in a statement.

Atlanta police said the two officers have been relieved from duty and the Sergeant has been placed on unpaid suspension.

APD said the incident is now being investigated by the department’s Office of Professional Standards.

“Chief Bryant will monitor the progress of this expedited investigation and review the findings to determine the proper course of action,” the department said.

Video After The Jump

A video of a Kentucky school girl’s terrifying ordeal from 2015, in which she was dragged along by a school bus, has been released as a trial begins into the incident.

The girl, who was aged six at the time, was getting off the Jefferson County school bus six years ago when her backpack appeared to get stuck in its doors.

The doors closed and trapped the child. School bus driver Melinda Sanders is accused by the girl’s family of failing to notice the child getting off the bus.

The girl’s family alleged in court on Tuesday that the bus was driven 1,1,47 feet before coming to a stop. Both Ms Sanders and Jefferson County school district are named in the lawsuit.

Video footage, which was expected to feature in the trial, showed the six-year-old getting dragged along by the school bus while hanging from its doors by her backpack.

Ms Sanders failed to realize what was unfolding to her left, before hearing a passing vehicle beep her, the video shows. She can be heard saying; “Oh my God, Oh my God”.

The school district fired the driver after an investigation determined she did not watch the child get off the bus and ensure that all children were seated before driving, as required by her training.

Ms Sanders was found to have broken a total of 16 rules during the incident.

The child, who was identified as AR in court, suffered severe nerve damage and PTSD, and has since had multiple surgeries, the lawsuit reportedly said.

The family of the six-year-old is asking for damages, and the trial is ongoing.

Last June, Antonio Brown received two years of probation after pleading no contest to three charges stemming from a January 2020 incident with a moving truck driver.

But now, Brown’s probation is has been terminated a year early.

Per NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, the criminal matter related to the case is now over.

“In further demonstration of Antonio Brown’s hard work and great progress since his NFL suspension, we are very pleased to advise that his withheld adjuration is now final and he has completed his probation a full year ahead of schedule,” attorney Sean Burstyn said, via Rapoport. “We see nothing but blue sky for AB.”

While the criminal matter is over, Brown is facing a civil suit related to the same incident for battery and assault.

Brown was suspended for the first eight games of the 2020 season for multiple violations of the league’s personal conduct policy. He signed with the Buccaneers in late October and played eight games in the regular season. Brown also caught a touchdown pass in Super Bowl LV.

He re-signed with Tampa Bay in late May.

Damon Dash is taking the L -- at least for now -- in his attempt to auction off Jay-Z's "Reasonable Doubt" album as an NFT ... but he's not likely to give up just yet.

A source close to the case tells us the court ruled in favor of Roc-A-Fella Tuesday by ruling Damon's prohibited from selling the NFT of Jay's debut studio album, and any planned auctions to do so must be halted.

Of course, the ruling is only temporary, but we're told the federal judge said Jay and Roc-A-Fella's arguments were "deemed credible and correct." That being said, more filings are almost certain to come in the future from Dash's side.

We broke the story ... Roc-A-Fella sued Dash -- one of its cofounders -- claiming he did not have rights to sell "Reasonable Doubt" because the company owns it.

RAF -- repped by powerhouse attorney Alex Spiro -- claimed Damon was trying to cash in on the NFT craze, so they took him to court to stop any potential sale and make him turn over any NFTs he'd already minted.

But, Dash told us the lawsuit wasn't going to stop him and clarified he wasn't just trying to sell Jay's album, but his ENTIRE stake in Roc-A-Fella. Dame claimed Jay-Z lowballed him with an offer to buy out his 1/3 stake in the company ... so he's shopping around.

As far as we can tell ... nothing's stopping him from doing that.
