The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s office has identified a man found dead inside a 55-gallon drum in Malibu Lagoon on Monday.

The victim is 32-year-old Javonnta Murphy, who was a singer & songwriter.

A park maintenance worker first saw the barrel floating in the water near the Pacific Coast Highway bridge on Sunday night & when they tried to drag it to shore, it was too heavy, so they left it in the water.

When a lifeguard arrived at work on Monday & spotted the barrel around 10 a.m., they swam to retrieve it. That is when they made the gruesome discovery, according to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.

“It didn’t look decomposed or like it had been there for a long time,” said Lt. Hugo Raynaga.

Authorities also added that the high tide may have carried the barrel into the lagoon from the ocean.

Beachgoers & surfers in the area were “deeply concerned” & shocked when they learned of the discovery.

“It’s something that doesn’t happen very often at all here,” one beachgoer told us Tuesday morning. “It’s unthinkable.”

Detectives are continuing to search the area for clues, witnesses & surveillance footage that may aid them in the investigation.

No further information about Murphy was released.

Former "Wild 'N Out" star Ms Jacky Oh! -- who's also DC Young Fly's longtime partner -- has died ... TMZ has learned.

Sources tell us she died Wednesday in Miami. We don't have details yet about the cause of her death, but a since-deleted social media post claimed she was in Miami to undergo a "mommy makeover."

Ms Jacky Oh!'s real name was Jacklyn Smith, and she and DC met in 2015 ... the same year he made his premiere on MTV's hit show "Wild 'N Out."

Jacky was already being featured as one of the show's "Wild 'N Out" girls at that point.

Jacky was no longer on 'WNO' ... she'd gone on to launch her own lip gloss line called the J Nova Collection.

Of course, DC is still one of the show's biggest stars, and we're told he was actually in Atlanta shooting new episodes when he got the tragic news about Jacky's death.

The "Wild 'N Out" social media page posted about Ms Jacky's death, writing, "We are deeply saddened by the passing of Jacklyn Smith, known to the world as Jacky Oh, a talented Wild 'N Out family member whose impact will be forever treasured and missed. Jacky Oh was a loving friend and beloved colleague of the Wild 'N Out cast throughout five seasons."

They continue, "More importantly, she was a tremendous mother to three beautiful children. The BET Media Group extends our condolences to the Smith family, DC Young Fly, B Simone, Nick Cannon and all friends who loved and cared for Jacky Oh during this difficult time."

Although Jacky and DC never married, they remained a couple and had 3 children together -- daughters Nova and Nala, and their son Prince was just born last year.

Jacky was just 32.

KOREATOWN, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A man who was killed in a shooting in Koreatown was a rapper, known as Half Ounce, and a father of three children with his wife expecting a fourth.

The shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. Monday in the 700 block South New Hampshire Avenue. Officers responded to numerous calls of shots fired and found the victim lying in a planter at a nearby apartment building.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Further details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting were not immediately disclosed.

The victim, officially identified as Latauriisha O'Brien, was a local rapper who also worked for UPS.

"He was an artist around here. He was popular. He was coming up still... but it's such a sad story to hear," said Steven Gonzalez.

O'Brien was from Inglewood and did not live in Koreatown. Investigators are trying to determine what he may have been doing in the area.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A California woman has been arrested in the death of her newborn baby boy in the San Francisco Bay Area 32 years ago in a case that was solved decades later because of genetic genealogy, authorities said Monday.

Lesa Lopez, 52, admitted to investigators she was the mother of the baby and implicated herself in the killing, Alameda County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Ray Kelly said in a statement.

“Lopez, who was 20 years old at the time of the incident, told investigators she hid the pregnancy from her family and friends and provided details of what happened,” he said.

Lopez, of Salida, was arrested on July 23 and charged with murder. She is being held on $2 million bail. It wasn’t immediately known if she has an attorney who can speak on her behalf.

Two children playing found the baby’s body on May 15, 1988, inside a paper bag left among trees and bushes on the bank of a creek in Castro Valley. An autopsy revealed the baby was alive at birth and was killed, Kelly said.

The boy, identified by investigators as Baby Joe Doe, was given a funeral at St. Leanders Church in San Leandro attended by more than 200 people. A priest posthumously named him Richard Jayson Terrance Rein after the church’s vicars and priests.

With DNA investigative technology much more advanced, the DNA of a woman was found in 2005 in evidence collected from the crime scene. Investigators believed it belonged to the baby’s mother, who was considered a suspect, but she couldn’t be identified.

Multiple investigators with the sheriff’s office tried to solve the case over the past 32 years “for a baby boy who never had a voice and never had the chance of living a full life,” Kelly said.

Last year, investigators again took up the case with the help of experts in forensic genetic genealogy from the FBI, and private labs, including Oklahoma-based DNA solutions and Gene-by-Gene’, which owns the genealogy website FamilyTreeDNA.

After extensive genealogy research, surveillance and DNA collected from Lopez’s discarded trash, cold case investigators linked Lopez to the crime scene, Kelly said.

Video After The Jump

A Baltimore police officer was indicted Thursday on 32 counts of assault, false imprisonment and misconduct after a review of months’ worth of body-cam footage unveiled a “pattern and practice of harassment and intimidation,” prosecutors said.

Sgt. Ethan Newberg, an officer with 24 years on the force, turned himself in to the Baltimore Police Department on Thursday afternoon, Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn J. Mosby told The Washington Post.

It also prompted a review of nearly a year’s worth of Newberg’s daily interactions with citizens, Mosby said.

There were nine incidents involving Newberg apparently intimidating citizens. All nine incidents unfolded almost identically: Newberg, 49, questioning and restraining bystanders who happened to be in the same place as the police interactions, such as traffic stops and arrests, according to an indictment obtained by The Post.

In one January incident, a bystander identified in court documents as “DM” was told to move away from police activity. DM walked away, but Newberg pursued him and shoved him against a wall, the indictment said.

“You were told to walk away, it’s a safety issue. You don’t make the rules out here, we do,” Newberg said, according to the document. Newberg coerced an apology from DM before he was released.

“Hey, don’t play me … don’t mess with me,” he told DM, according to the document.

Other interactions summarized in the document reveal an attitude of lording over the Western District. In one February traffic stop, Newberg told a man sitting on a stoop to disperse after a nearby traffic stop but then went after him and took him into custody.

“I’m the sergeant they talk about, now you’ve met me. Sgt. Newberg. Now you know me,” he told the man. “Now we have an understanding, correct?”

Those moments came to light in a review prompted by a May 30 incident involving Lee Dotson, who saw two Baltimore officers force a man to sit on a rain-drenched curb. He decided to speak up.

“That ground wet, man,” Dotson said, as he passed the scene and walked away. Newberg described Dotson as “combative” in initial reports, though footage later released told a radically different story.

Newberg broke into a run, grabbed Dotson by the arm and tried to take him down before another officer tackled the passerby to the pavement and locked handcuffs around his wrists, according to body-cam footage.

The 32-count indictment includes charges related to that incident, Mosby said. Joseph Murtha, Newberg’s attorney following the initial charges, did not respond to a request for comment.

Newberg has been trained in de-escalation, use of force and laws allowing citizens to record police action, the prosecutor’s office said.

The department declined to provide a statement but pointed to Harrison’s previous comments.

“From what I saw, the man did nothing to provoke Sergeant Newberg, whose actions were not just wrong but deeply disturbing and illegal,” Harrison said at a news conference in June after release of the Dotson body-cam footage. “This type of behavior cannot and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.”

Mosby said Newberg’s arrest was “another example of my office’s commitment to share one standard of justice.”

“You’ll face the consequences even if you wear a badge,” she said.

Newberg has remained suspended with pay, Mosby said.

His salary is notable. He was paid $260,775 in the fiscal year ending in June when accounting for overtime — the highest of any city employee.

That period included every incident cited in the indictment.

HOUSTON (KTRK) --Investigators are trying to figure out why someone would shoot a man in the back of the head at a southwest Houston gas station overnight.

Police say the man who pulled the trigger killed local rapper Christopher Barriere.

Barriere, known as Mr. 3-2, was a member of Houston's Screwed Up Click. While signed to Rap-A-Lot Records he was involved with three groups: The Convicts, Southside Playaz and Blac Monks, and released one solo album. He has collaborated on tracks with Snoop Dogg, UGK, Scarface, 8 Ball & MJG, South Park Mexican & Too $hort.

According to investigators, the suspect drove away then came back and shot another victim in the face.

Houston police say there were four men at the gas station Thursday night, and that the men all know each other.

Police say two of the men went inside the store and one of the men outside pulled out a pistol and shot the first victim in the back of the head.

The suspect then drove away but came back.

According to investigators, he had a shotgun and fired it at the second victim, hitting him in the face and other people who were simply at the gas station at the wrong time.

"Unfortunately the shot gun blast, not all the pellets hit its intended target and continued past and struck multiple other targets including another witness who was shot in the leg," HPD Sgt. Michael Arrington said.

The suspect drove away in a white or grey four-door car.

Police are looking at surveillance video and hope that will help them find the suspect.

As he was being transferred from Hunt Correctional Facility to East Baton Rouge Parish Prison Friday following his indictment on 1st degree murder charges Thursday, Lil Boosie told tv cameras "I'm innocent."

The indictment is for the murder of Terry Boyd. In addition Boosie, real name Torrance Hatch is alleged to have been part of a drug ring in prison. And is charged with three counts of possession with intent to distribute codeine, ecstasy and marijuana. He was also indicted on three counts of conspiracy to commit possession with intent to distribute narcotics and two counts of conspiracy to introduce contraband into a penal institution

Those charges are just the tip of the iceberg. The Louisiana rapper may be in even deeper trouble as police probe his ties to a string of additional murders.

Police have arrested a total of nine men, six on charges of murder for the killings of six people in the Baton Rouge area. Police allege that Boosie was a part of this crew.

Adrian Pittman, 36, Jared Williams, 20, Kendrick Johnson, 19, Johnathan Rogers, 17 and Ryan “Sneaks” Carroll, 16, Michael Louding, 17, Reginald Youngblood, 32, Joshua Wilson, 27 and Stacy Riley, 36 are all in police custody.

Wilson, a prison guard faces one count of conspiracy to introduce contraband into a penal institution.

Riley, a prison inmate faces one count of conspiracy to introduce contraband into a penal institution

The other seven men were involved with or charged for the murders of Charles Matthews, 37, Terry Boyd, 35, Chris “Nussie” Jackson, 33, Darryl “Bleek” Milton, 25, Marcus Thomas, 20 and Michael Smith, 19

The FBI received tips on Boosie, who allegedly ordered a hit on Chris "Nussie" Jackson, a local rapper, offering to pay $30,000 for the hit. Antony Jung, a federal agent, testified under oath, that he knew Lil Boosie had sent out the order for a hit on Nussie.

Boosie and Nussie had been beefing for a while over industry competition. Boosie recorded a song "What Goes Up Must Come Down" that supposedly contained a threat to Nussie.

Nussie, real name Chris Lynell Jackson released his last album 'The Champ Is Here' in April 2008.

Louding, who was 16 at the time, is a hired assasin and is believed to have shot Nussie February 9, 2009 inside his home.

Louding, the only one directly linked to all six slayings has been charged with 5 felony counts of murder, one count of second degree murder and two counts of attempted first degree murder .

Boosie's 25 year old girlfriend, Walnita Decuir, faces the same drug charges he does. She surrendered herself to police on Friday.

The D.A. says Boosie could be facing the death penalty

Anthony Gonzalez, former manager of the rap duo Clipse, was sentenced Monday to 32 years in prison after admitting his role as the leader of a $20 million drug ring . Gonzalez, who goes by “Tony” or “Geezy,” received the minimum sentence under federal guidelines, based in part on his cooperation with the government, a relatively minor criminal record and a swell of family and community support. Gonzalez, 34, admitted running the organization chiefly from the Virginia Beach nightclub Encore Lounge, now closed. The ring has been linked to one-time Olympic gold medalist Tim Montgomery, as well as former Bloods gang leader Marlon Reed. Gonzalez apologized before he was led away.

Anthony GonzalezI just want to say that I’m sorry to my family and I’m sorry to the community,” he told U.S. District Judge Jerome B. Friedman. Prosecutors said that in a five-year period, Gonzalez was responsible for distributing more than a half-ton of cocaine, a ton of marijuana and hundreds of pounds of heroin throughout the region. Authorities initially had estimated Gonzalez’s drug operation as having a gross worth of $10 million but now say that figure should be doubled. “These are obviously staggering amounts of drugs,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Darryl Mitchell told the judge. “One can only imagine what that’s done to the community.” Gonzalez made millions from his drug enterprise, according to court records, but now has a “negative net worth,” according to the judge, who didn’t impose a fine. But Gonzalez lived large while he was free, staying at five-star resorts and buying luxury cars and homes. His attorney, Lawrence H. Woodward Jr., described Gonzalez as an intelligent individual who could have been successful without dealing drugs. “It’s always puzzling and sad when someone with that ability doesn’t use it for constructive purposes,” Woodward said. He added that Gonzalez knew before his arrest that one day soon he’d end up dead or in prison. He was living “a bad dream that he couldn’t find a way out of,” Woodward said. The judge even seemed puzzled by Gonzalez’s recklessness. “It’s hard for me to imagine it’s the same person,” Friedman said, comparing Gonzalez’s background and letters of support with his drug activities. About 40 supporters packed the courtroom. “We love you,” some shouted as Gonzalez was led away in handcuffs. Gonzalez could in the future get his sentence reduced based on his cooperation Source: The Virginian-Pilot Follow Me @Twitter.com/ChasinMoPaper

Any worries about "Avatar" after it got off to less than a phenomenal start this past weekend have been erased. 20th Century Fox's costly 3D tentpole movie sold $16.4 million worth of tickets on Monday and $16 million on Tuesday in the U.S. and Canada, according to the studio. That's the highest-ever domestic gross on either day for a film playing outside of summer. Including flicks that opened in summer, traditionally the strongest time of the year for moviegoing, "Avatar" had the third-biggest non-holiday Monday (excluding Memorial Day and July 4th weekends) ever and the third-biggest Tuesday ever. Huge weekday ticket sales for "Avatar" are yet another sign, along with its higher-than-predicted Sunday, that word-of-mouth for the movie is fantastic and spreading fast. According to people who have seen audience polling, "Avatar" will probably decline very modestly, if at all, this coming weekend compared with its $77-million debut. Combined with the $109.5 million it has grossed so far, it will probably be close to and possibly over $200 million by Sunday and on its way to an ultimate domestic gross of at least $350 million. Combined with even bigger grosses from foreign countries, including a debut in Japan today that is expected to be very strong, a final worldwide total of more than $1 billion is looking more and more likely for "Avatar." The $430 million that Fox, along with Dune Entertainment and Ingenious Partners, spent to produce and sell the movie is looking like a better investment every day. -- Ben Fritz Source: L.A.
