BANGKOK (AP) — A former policeman burst into a day care center in northeastern Thailand on Thursday, killing dozens of children & teachers & then firing on more people as he fled in the deadliest rampage in the nation’s history.

The assailant, who authorities said was fired from the force earlier this year because of a drug offense, took his own life after killing his own wife & child at home.

A witness said staff at the day care locked the door when they saw the assailant approaching with a gun, but he shot his way in. In footage posted online after the attack, frantic family members could be heard weeping outside the day care & 1 image showed the floor of 1 room smeared with blood & sleeping mats scattered about. Pictures of the alphabet & other colorful decorations adorned the walls.

At least 37 people were killed in the attack, according to police spokesman Archayon Kraithong. Another 12 people were wounded. At least 24 of the dead were children, mostly preschoolers.

Police identified the suspect as 34-year-old former police officer Panya Kamrap. Police Maj. Gen. Paisal Luesomboon told PPTV in an interview that he was fired from the force earlier this year because of drug-related offenses.

In the attack he used multiple weapons, including a handgun, a shotgun & a knife.

Local police chief Damrongsak Kittiprapha told reporters that the suspect was a sergeant on the force before he was fired & that the main weapon he used was a 9mm pistol that he had purchased himself.

Nine migrants died after being swept downriver while attempting to cross the Rio Grande at the Texas border, Customs and Border Protection confirmed to Axios.

The big picture: The migrants were passing through Eagle Pass, a town in southern Texas that has become "a major entry point for migrants," the New York Times reports.

*At least 37 of the 53 migrants taken into custody were rescued from the river on the American side of the border, CBP told Axios in a statement.

*Six migrants were found drowned by U.S. officials, CBP said. Mexican authorities found another six dead on their side of the border.

*Local authorities are still searching the area for more potential victims.

*Authorities told the New York Times that "fierce currents had swept a number of migrants downstream" while trying to cross the border.

*The fire chief in Eagle Pass told NYT that drownings have become rather common at the Rio Grande in recent years. He pointed to an incident in July when 12 dead bodies were recovered at the border.

FOREST, Miss. (AP) — Law enforcement officers who pulled a driver over for a traffic violation in Mississippi allegedly discovered about 37 pounds of methamphetamine hidden inside a spare tire stashed in the vehicle.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office and the Flowood Police Department stopped a pickup truck along an interstate near Flowood early this month after spotting it driving in a “careless manner,” according to the agencies.

An officer conducting the stop discovered a tire in the bed of the truck, and inside it, an assisting deputy found 37.5 pounds of methamphetamine worth an estimated street value of $350,000, WLBT-TV reported, citing the authorities.

The driver was charged with aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine, Scott County Sheriff Mike Lee said.

The suspect was not immediately identified and it was unclear whether they were being held in custody.

Dallas (WFAA) -- A former NBA and Texas Tech basketball player was shot and killed early Monday morning in Old East Dallas.

A passerby found Andre Emmett, 37, wounded on North Prairie Avenue and called police around 2:30 a.m., Dallas police say.

He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

According to police, witnesses told investigators that Emmett was sitting in his car outside a residence in the 1800 block of North Prairie Avenue when two men approached his vehicle.

An argument ensued and one of the men pulled out a gun. Emmett was shot as he ran from the men, police said.

Witnesses told police the two men fled the scene in a white Chrysler 300.

Emmett was born on Aug. 27, 1982 in Dallas and went on to play basketball at Carter High School.

From 2000 to 2004, he attended Texas Tech University, where he played basketball with Bob Knight as his coach for three of four seasons. He remains the university's second all-time scorer and was named All-American his senior year.

In 2004, he was drafted by the Seattle SuperSonics as a 35th overall pick in the NBA draft. He was later traded to the Memphis Grizzlies and went on to play for the New Jersey Nets.

He also played for several NBA developmental league teams, including in 2006 with the Dallas Mavericks for the Las Vegas Summer League.

In 2018, Emmett was the second overall pick in the 2018 BIG3 league, a 3-on-3 basketball league founded by rapper and actor Ice Cube. He was entering his second season with the league when he was killed.

Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors stamped his name in the NBA record book Friday, January, 23, with an incredible display of shooting against the Sacramento Kings.

The 24-year old, 6'8" shooting guard went off for 37 points in the third quarter to break the previous record of 33 points in a quarter, shared by George Gervin and Carmelo Anthony.

The entire Sacramento team managed to put in only 22 points in the same quarter.

Thompson poured in points in every way possible on 13-of-13 shooting. He drained 3-pointers, drove the lane, dunked and hit free throws. For the game he set a new career high with 52 points.

The crowd in Oakland cheered and watched in awe as Klay put on a show for the ages.

"They just kept wanting to see the show," Thompson said, according to the Oakland Tribune. "That's what they kept telling me. It's kind of a blur. I wish I could go back and enjoy it tomorrow, but moments like that, the best ones go by really fast. It's something I'll never forget and hopefully tell my grandkids about one day."

"As many spectacular things as Michael (Jordan) did, which he did nightly, I never saw him do that," said Warriors coach Steve Kerr, who won three NBA championships playing with Jordan. "It was reminiscent of Michael because it's sort of otherworldly."

It's a normal human tendency to try and remember the best things about a person after they pass away. That's why when truly great artists like Jimi Hendrix, 2Pac or Aaliyah pass away we place them on a pedestal.

James Dewitt Yancey aka Jay Dee or J. Dilla belongs in that category. Today would have marked his 37th birthday, he passed away age age 32 from thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, a rare blood disease.

He left behind a great body of work from music produced for Erykah Badu, Common, Busta Rhymes, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Raekwon and many more.

To his own solo work on "Love Japan", "The Shining", "Welcome To Detroit." And group efforts with Slum Village/J-88 and JayLib, a collaborative effort with Madlib.

Below is a documentary that was put together around the time Dilla died. Also peep some of my favorite songs produced by him.

What were some of yours and where do you rank Dilla amongst all producers dead or alive?

Video After The Jump A Colombian tradition turned tragic on Sunday when a bullfight spun out of control, leaving three people dead and at least 37 injured. The local bullfight in the Andean community of Sabanalarga is known as the "corraleja", bringing together bulls and local residents in a party-like atmosphere. Sunday's event, however, took a violent turn as onlookers spilled into the ring and found themselves being chased and gored by bulls. A 20-year-old man was killed during the event, but the other two fatalities, both men in their forties, occurred in the hospital as a result of their injuries. Doctor Jaime de la Hoz treated one of the victims. "The others who were injured had been penetrated at the level of their abdomen and their thorax. The one with the thorax had to be sent to another facility, and the one with the abdominal injury was treated here," he said. Sabanalarga mayor, Carlos Roca, said this particular corraleja turned tragic due to drunkenness among the participants, but he did not say if any measures would be taken to avoid such incidents in the future. As he was being transferred from Hunt Correctional Facility to East Baton Rouge Parish Prison Friday following his indictment on 1st degree murder charges Thursday, Lil Boosie told tv cameras "I'm innocent."

The indictment is for the murder of Terry Boyd. In addition Boosie, real name Torrance Hatch is alleged to have been part of a drug ring in prison. And is charged with three counts of possession with intent to distribute codeine, ecstasy and marijuana. He was also indicted on three counts of conspiracy to commit possession with intent to distribute narcotics and two counts of conspiracy to introduce contraband into a penal institution

Those charges are just the tip of the iceberg. The Louisiana rapper may be in even deeper trouble as police probe his ties to a string of additional murders.

Police have arrested a total of nine men, six on charges of murder for the killings of six people in the Baton Rouge area. Police allege that Boosie was a part of this crew.

Adrian Pittman, 36, Jared Williams, 20, Kendrick Johnson, 19, Johnathan Rogers, 17 and Ryan “Sneaks” Carroll, 16, Michael Louding, 17, Reginald Youngblood, 32, Joshua Wilson, 27 and Stacy Riley, 36 are all in police custody.

The other seven men were involved with or charged for the murders of Charles Matthews, 37, Terry Boyd, 35, Chris “Nussie” Jackson, 33, Darryl “Bleek” Milton, 25, Marcus Thomas, 20 and Michael Smith, 19

The FBI received tips on Boosie, who allegedly ordered a hit on Chris "Nussie" Jackson, a local rapper, offering to pay $30,000 for the hit. Antony Jung, a federal agent, testified under oath, that he knew Lil Boosie had sent out the order for a hit on Nussie.

Boosie and Nussie had been beefing for a while over industry competition. Boosie recorded a song "What Goes Up Must Come Down" that supposedly contained a threat to Nussie.

Nussie, real name Chris Lynell Jackson released his last album 'The Champ Is Here' in April 2008.

Louding, who was 16 at the time, is a hired assasin and is believed to have shot Nussie February 9, 2009 inside his home.

Louding, the only one directly linked to all six slayings has been charged with 5 felony counts of murder, one count of second degree murder and two counts of attempted first degree murder .

Boosie's 25 year old girlfriend, Walnita Decuir, faces the same drug charges he does. She surrendered herself to police on Friday.

The D.A. says Boosie could be facing the death penalty
