(CNN) Texas Republican Congressman Louie Gohmert tests positive for COVID-19 before planning to fly to Texas with President Trump
Gohmert has spent ample time on the House floor during votes speaking to aides and lawmakers — without a mask or social distancing. His office did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
Gohmert had been scheduled to fly aboard Air Force One on Wednesday with President Donald Trump to Midland, Texas, where the President is fundraising and touring an oil rig. He tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday morning during a pre-flight screening at the White House, a person familiar with the situation told CNN. Because of the positive test, Gohmert is not traveling with the President.
A senior Republican aide told CNN the test results have caused issues on the Hill where "a lot of staffers" were ordered to get tests before they can go to meetings and resume activity. Some are sequestering in their offices until they can get tested. Gohmert's office notified Republican leaders, who notified House medical staff and the protocol kicked in for further notification, the GOP aide said.
Politico first reported the news of Gohmert's test.
Gohmert told CNN last month that he didn't wear a mask because he had been tested and he didn't yet have the virus. "But if I get it, you'll never see me without a mask," he said.
In an interview with a local Texas television station KETK on Wednesday, Gohmert suggested he may have contracted coronavirus by incorrectly wearing his mask.
"I can't help but wonder if by keeping a mask on and keeping it in place, that if I might have put some germs or some of the virus onto the mask and breathed it in," Gohmert said. He added that he has been wearing a mask more during the past two weeks than he has in the past three or four months.
"I can't help but think that if I hadn't been wearing a mask so much in the last 10 days or so, I really wonder if I would have gotten it," Gohmert added. "You know, moving the mask around, getting it just right, we're bound to put some virus on the mask that I sucked in. That's most likely what happened."
Incorrectly wearing a mask, including touching and adjusting it in public, can lead to exposure to the virus. Face masks are most effective when wearers do not touch their faces or move the mask around when using it. But Gohmert's claim that such a scenario is "most likely" how he was infected is questionable, as experts say the virus primarily spreads during person-to-person contact.

Video of plainclothes NYPD officers grabbing a young woman from a protest and putting her into an unmarked vehicle has ignited questions about police tactics, but the department says the actions taken against a suspected vandal were appropriate and warranted.
The arrest occurred Tuesday evening as a group of protesters made their way down Second Avenue at East 25th Street in Manhattan. The video has been seen over 7 million times on Twitter. In it, multiple men can be seen grabbing 18-year-old Nikki Stone, who was among several other protesters leading a larger group of demonstrators participating in a 24-hour protest, and forcing her into an unmarked van.
As the person was being taken away, the other protesters rushed over to see what was going on. Uniformed officers kept the demonstrators away, using bicycles as barriers, the video showed.
Police sources told NBC News that the arrest was conducted by undercover NYPD officers. Stone was among 12 people who were arrested, according to the NYPD.
After the incident gained attention online, the NYPD said that Stone "was wanted for damaging police cameras during 5 separate criminal incidents in & around City Hall Park." The department also noted that officers were hit with rocks and bottles while bringing the person into custody, and in a subsequent tweet, said that the "Warrant Squad uses unmarked vehicles to effectively locate wanted suspects."
"They actually snatched up and took a woman who was in our camp and drove off, which initiated aggression from our camp," one protester said.
It was not immediately clear if Stone had been charged. She was later released from custody early Wednesday after being given a desk appearance ticket, according to NYC Councilmember Carlina Rivera.

(CNN) A man in Miami, Florida, has been charged with bank fraud for allegedly lying on PPP loan applications and spending the money on luxury items such as a Lamborghini Huracán EVO, federal authorities say.
Funds from the $521 billion Paycheck Protection Program are destined for small businesses so that they're able to keep workers on payroll throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
David Tyler Hines, 29, not only filed fraudulent PPP applications, but also spent the money on a $318,497.53 Lamborghini Huracán EVO and other "luxury and personal items," including nearly $5,000 at Saks Fifth Ave, more than $11,000 at two Miami-area hotels and a $8,530 purchase at Graff Diamonds, investigators say.
"There does not appear to be any business purpose for most, if not all, of these expenses," the criminal complaint reads.
CNN obtained a photo of a blue Lamborghini through a law enforcement source, which they say is the one Hines' purchased.
Bank records obtained by US Postal investigators show Hines got almost $4 million in taxpayer dollars through three low-interest, forgivable PPP loans. He had initially requested $13.5 million in seven PPP loan applications, claiming his four companies needed the funds to continue paying employees.
"Those purported employees either did not exist or earned a fraction of what Hines claimed," US Postal Inspector Bryan Masmela wrote in the complaint.
The charging document went on to note that customers have claimed on the Better Business Bureau website that two of Hines' companies used, "bait-and-switch practices and other deceitful activities."
Also, one of those companies had not filed its mandatory annual report with Florida's Department of State in two years.
"David is a legitimate business owner who, like millions of Americans, suffered financially during the pandemic," Hines attorney Chad Piotrowski told CNN in a statement. "While the allegations appear very serious, especially in light of the pandemic, David is anxious to tell his side of the story when the time comes."
If found guilty, Hines faces up to a $1,000,000 fine and up to 30 years prison for bank fraud; up to a $1,000,000 fine and up to 30 years prison for false statement to a lending institution; and a prison sentence of up to ten years for engaging in transactions in unlawful proceeds.

George Floyd's memory, and the worldwide movement his murder started, is being honored with a new hologram that will be on full display across several Southern states.
Change.org partnered with the George Floyd Foundation to create this hologram image of George along with his name ... all in glowing yellow light. The image was unveiled Monday night in what some might call the most fitting place possible.
Several of George's family members gathered for the ceremony where the Jefferson Davis statue used to stand in Richmond, Virginia. The hologram was projected right where the President of the Confederacy had been honored before protesters tore down his statue last month.
On Tuesday night, the hologram will appear again in Richmond -- but this time ... it will be projected where a Robert E. Lee statue used to stand. City officials took that one down.
From there, the George Floyd hologram will be on the move ... making stops at five other sites between North Carolina, Georgia and other states -- pretty much following the same route as the 1961 Freedom Rides during the Civil Rights era.
George's family said they wanted his hologram displayed in places they felt needed to see it most right now.

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A Macomb County woman is accused of setting a Jeep on fire and Local 4 spoke to the owner of the vehicle.
Sydney Parham, a 26-year-old woman from Fraser, was charged with arson in connection to the Wednesday Harrison Township vehicle fire.
According to authorities, Macomb County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at about 8 a.m. to the San Remo Villa Apartment complex on Union Lake Road on reports of a vehicle fire.
Police said the investigation revealed no one went near the Jeep during the time of the fire other than a woman believed to be Parham, who matched the description given by witnesses and what was seen on video recorded from the scene.
Naya Ashford lives in the San Remo Villa Apartment complex and saw the video on social media. She didn’t realize the incident happened right outside.
Ashford’s car only had an ash mark, but not everyone else in the parking lot was as lucky. The flames melted two cars. The Jeep was only 3 months old.
Avery Stevenson shared the video he took when he went to the impound lot to see what was left of his Jeep. He didn’t want to go on camera, but he did say he knows the suspect.
He said she was not his girlfriend. He said he’s not sure what the motive could be.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Former San Francisco 49er Dana Stubblefield was convicted Monday of the rape of a developmentally disabled woman, after prosecutors said he lured the victim to his home with the promise of a babysitting job.
A jury found Stubblefield, 49, guilty of rape by force, oral copulation by force and false imprisonment, and acquitted him of raping a person incapable of giving consent, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
Jurors also found that Stubblefield used a gun during the assault, prosecutors said.
Stubblefield could face 15 years to life in prison. He was a defensive lineman for the San Francisco 49ers and the Oakland Raiders.
The verdict came after a nine-month trial, and five years after the victim reported the April 2015 sexual assault to police, the newspaper said.
A day before the assault, Stubblefield contacted the then 31-year-old woman on a baby-sitting website and arranged an interview, prosecutors said.
According to a report by the Morgan Hill Police Department, the interview lasted about 20 minutes. She later received a text from Stubblefield saying he wanted to pay her for her time that day, and she went back to the house.
After raping her, Stubblefield gave her $80 and let her go, according to the report. The woman immediately went to police and reported the rape. DNA evidence matched that of Stubblefield, the report said.
Defense attorneys argued that there was no rape and that the woman consented to sex.
Allen Sawyer, one of Stubblefield’s trial attorneys, described the incident as a “paid encounter for sex.” He said the defense team was precluded from showing the jury strong evidence that would have supported the contention.
“There’s a lot of information that we have, that the jury was not allowed to have, that we think would have been impactful to their decision,” Sawyer told the Chronicle Monday after the verdict was read.
Sawyer said defense attorneys will seek a new trial.
“We expect to keep fighting for Mr. Stubblefield’s innocence,” Sawyer said. “We will clear his name, and we look forward to fighting this out in the courts. This is just the first battle.”
Stubblefield was remanded to jail without bail, pending sentencing.
Stubblefield was drafted by the 49ers in 1993 and named to the NFL All-Pro team from 1994 through 1997. He spent the next three seasons with Washington, then played two more years with the 49ers and a final season with the Raiders before retiring at the start of the 2004 season.
In his final season, the NFL fined Stubblefield and three other Raiders for testing positive for steroids. In 2009, a federal judge fined him $5,000 and placed him on two years’ probation for lying to an IRS agent about his steroid use, the Chronicle said.
