PHILADELPHIA (AP) — John Chaney, one of the nation’s leading basketball coaches and a commanding figure during a Hall of Fame career at Temple, died Friday. He was 89.

The university said he died after a short, unspecified illness. He celebrated his birthday last week.

Chaney led Temple to 17 NCAA Tournament appearances over 24 seasons, including five NCAA regional finals. Chaney had 741 wins as a college coach. He was twice named national coach of the year and his teams at Temple won six Atlantic 10 conference titles.

He became a de facto father to dozens of his players, many coming to Temple from broken homes, violent upbringings and bad schools. He often said his biggest goal was simply to give poor kids a chance to get an education.

“Coach Chaney was like a father to me,” said Temple coach Aaron McKie, who played for Chaney. “He taught not just me, but all of his players more than just how to succeed in basketball. He taught us life lessons to make us better individuals off the court. I owe so much to him. He made me the man I am today.”

T.I. and Tiny have responded to the latest allegations from Sabrina Peterson, who previously said the L.I.B.R.A. artist once held a gun to her head.

The latest allegations, which arrived via screenshots of DMs from several women on Peterson's Instagram, see the couple being alleged to have engaged in—among other things—sexual abuse. In a series of Instagram Stories updates on Thursday, Peterson shared excerpts from conversations she's had with more than a dozen women. Among the accusations are that T.I. and Tiny allegedly required women to take drugs before entering their home, as well as reported instances of assault and alleged facilitation of sexual abuse.

In an amended statement to Complex from a spokesperson for Tip "T.I." Harris and Tameka "Tiny" Harris, the couple called the allegations "egregiously appalling" and alleged to have experienced "difficulty" with Peterson for more than 10 years.

"They are taking this matter very seriously, and if these allegations don't end, they will take appropriate legal action," the spokesperson said.

WASHINGTON D.C. (KMOV.com) -- St. Louis Representative Cori Bush is changing offices after a "maskless" Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene "berated" her and staff Friday, she said via Twitter.

The freshman Missouri congresswoman said that she decided to move offices for safety reasons. It was also reported Speaker Nancy Pelosi personally got involved. Greene, who represents Georgia's 14th Congressional District, is known for frequently posting conspiracy theories on her page, including QAnon conspiracies.

Bush added that she called on members that incited the Jan 6. insurrection to be expelled from Congress.

Greene responded to the tweet by Bush with a video saying that she "berated" her and called her the "leader of the St. Louis Black Lives Matter terrorist mob who trespassed into a gated neighborhood to threaten the lives of the McCloskeys."

New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also joined the dispute on Twitter by calling out GOP leader Kevin McCarthy for not ensuring safety for House members.

"He is losing control of his caucus & allowing these threats to go unchecked, while looking the other way as members like Cori Bush feel so unsafe that she must move offices just 3 weeks into her 1st term," she tweeted.

Over 15 women have come forward accusing T.I. & Tiny of coercing them into comprising sexual situations involving drugs & money. Sabrina Peterson, a former friend of the Harris family who accused T.I. of assault, has compiled a series of messages she received from the alleged abuse victims on Instagram.

One anonymous woman detailed an incident that took place during CIAA in Charlotte in 2016. She claims she went to T.I. & Tiny’s hotel suite at the Ritz-Carlton & her phone was confiscated & molly & cocaine were handed out. Only the people who removed their pants were told to stay.

“I watched him drag girls back & forth from the bedroom, to the bathroom, to the living room,” she wrote. “One girl was crying because she wanted to leave but they refused to give her her phone to call an Uber.”

The woman, who was excused from the activities because she knew someone in T.I.’s entourage, said she witnessed the rapper tell his security to come “pick this bitch up off the bed” because she couldn’t walk. The alleged victim was “almost unconscious” & her pulse was “barely there,” according to the witness.

She described T.I. as an “absolute monster who uses money & power to manipulate people & Tiny is his secret weapon.”

Another woman says she was working as an escort/stripper in 2013 when T.I. invited her to take drugs & have sex with him & Tiny in return for payment. She claims Tiny got upset that T.I. was showing her more attention & hit her before T.I. “choked” her out. When she threatened to tell, she was told she could face deportation. “I was threatened to the point I was in fear I left Atlanta & never looked back,” she wrote.

Other accounts include one underage victim who claims she & her friend were “pressured for sex” during 2005 NBA All-Star Weekend in Colorado & another woman who said the “girls were so high it seemed like they were dead.”

Earlier this week, Peterson accused T.I. of putting a gun to her head following a physical altercation with his assistant, prompting Tiny to defend her husband against the claims.

Peterson says she plans to pursue “civil legal action & awareness.”

(WHDH) — A daycare operator has reportedly been charged with murder in connection with the death of a 2-year-old girl who passed away while in the suspect’s care last year.

Jessica Anne Cherry, 37, of Virginia, is facing a charge of second-degree murder in the death of Kaylee Thomas, according to a news release obtained by WAVY-TV.

Officers responding to Cherry’s in-home daycare in Norfolk on Aug. 18, 2020, found Thomas unresponsive, the news outlet reported.

Cherry was initially charged with attempted malicious wounding, abuse, neglect of a child, and child endangerment when she was arrested in September.

Authorities recently added the charge of second-degree murder after a medical examiner ruled Thomas’s death a homicide.

A Ring camera inside Cherry’s unlicensed daycare facility reportedly showed “horrific crimes” against other children just days before Thomas died.

Cherry is currently being held without bond at the Norfolk City Jail.

An investigation remains ongoing.

Cicely Tyson, who forged a path for scores of Black actors on Broadway and in Hollywood, has died.

Tyson was a force in entertainment for decades, but in her early years she had few role models because there were few people of color who were at the top of the Hollywood game.

She won 2 Emmys for Lead Actress in 1974, for "The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman." The year before she was nominated for the Best Actress Oscar for the movie "Sounder."

Tyson started her career as a model in NYC. She was on the covers of Ebony, Jet, Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. Still, her mom was none too pleased, telling her she couldn't live in the family house if she pursued entertainment. Her mom didn't speak to her for several years.

Younger audiences would know Cicely from "The Help" and "Fried Green Tomatoes."

She also made her mark on Broadway and won a Tony for Best Actress in a Play in 2013's "The Trip to Bountiful." That made her the oldest recipient ever of a Best Actress Tony.

President Obama bestowed a Presidential Medal of Freedom award to Tyson in 2016, saying, "Cicely made a conscious decision not just to say lines, but to speak out. Cicely's convictions and grace have helped for us to see the dignity of every beautiful member of the American family -- and she's just gorgeous."

Earlier in her career, Cicely starred in a play called "The Blacks." It was an off-Broadway play in the '60s and some of her co-stars were Maya Angelou, James Earl Jones and Louis Gossett Jr.

Cicely was 96.

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistan’s Supreme Court ordered the release Thursday of a Pakistani-British man convicted & later acquitted in the beheading of American journalist Daniel Pearl in 2002.

The court also dismissed an appeal of Ahmad Saeed Omar Sheikh’s acquittal filed by Pearl’s family & the Pakistani government.

A minister in the Sindh province where Sheikh is being held said the government had exhausted all options to keep him locked up. The “Supreme Court is the court of last resort,” said Murtaza Wahab, Sindh’s law minister.

“The Pearl family is in complete shock by the majority decision of the Supreme Court of Pakistan to acquit & release Ahmed Omer Sheikh and the other accused persons who kidnapped & killed Daniel Pearl,” the Pearl family said in a statement.

The brutality of Wall Street Journal reporter's killing shocked many in 2002, years before the Islamic State group began releasing videos of their beheadings of journalists.

Sheikh was convicted of helping lure Pearl to a meeting in the southern Pakistani port city of Karachi, during which he was kidnapped. Pearl had been investigating the link between Pakistani militants & Richard C. Reid, dubbed the “shoe bomber” after his attempt to blow up a flight from Paris to Miami with explosives hidden in his shoes.

Sheikh long denied any involvement in Pearl’s death, but the Supreme Court on Wednesday heard that he acknowledged writing a letter in 2019 admitting a minor role — raising hopes for some that he might remain behind bars.

Sheikh has been on death row since his conviction — even after his subsequent acquittal & is currently being held in a Karachi jail. A 3-judge Supreme Court ruled 2 to 1 to uphold Sheikh’s acquittal & ordered him released.
