TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) — A Kansas woman was executed Wednesday for strangling an expectant mother in Missouri & cutting the baby from her womb, the first time in nearly seven decades that the U.S. government has put to death a female inmate.
Lisa Montgomery, 52, was pronounced dead at 1:31 a.m. after receiving a lethal injection at the federal prison complex in Terre Haute, Indiana. She was the 11th prisoner to receive a lethal injection there since July when President Donald Trump, an ardent supporter of capital punishment, resumed federal executions following 17 years without one.
As a curtain was raised in the execution chamber, Montgomery looked momentarily bewildered as she glanced at journalists peering at her from behind thick glass. As the execution process began, a woman standing over Montgomery’s shoulder leaned over, gently removed Montgomery’s face mask & asked her if she had any last words. “No,” Montgomery responded in a quiet, muffled voice. She said nothing else.
She tapped her fingers nervously for several seconds, a heart-shaped tattoo on her thumb, showed no signs of distress & quickly closed her eyes. As the lethal injection began, Montgomery kept licking her lips & gasped briefly as pentobarbital, a lethal drug, entered her body through IVs on both arms. A few minutes later, her midsection throbbed for a moment, but quickly stopped.
An official in black gloves with a stethoscope walked into the room, listened to her heart and chest, then walked out. She was pronounced dead a minute later.
“The craven bloodlust of a failed administration was on full display tonight,” Montgomery’s attorney, Kelley Henry said in a statement. “Everyone who participated in the execution of Lisa Montgomery should feel shame.”
It came after hours of legal wrangling before the Supreme Court cleared the way for the execution to move forward. Montgomery was the first of the final three federal inmates scheduled to die before next week’s inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden, who is expected to discontinue federal executions.

Atlanta rapper YFN Lucci is wanted on a murder charge following a shootout that left one man dead and another injured last month in southwest Atlanta, authorities said.
The 29-year-old, whose real name is Rayshawn Bennett, is wanted on murder, aggravated assault, participating in criminal street gang activity and a weapons charge, Atlanta police announced in a news release Tuesday.
Two others, 23-year-old Ra’von Boyd and 17-year-old Leroy Pitts, were arrested on similar charges in Miami for their alleged roles in the Dec. 10 shooting, authorities said.
James Adams, 28, was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head last month in the 900 block of Peeples Street, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported. Emergency crews were called to the scene about 5:10 p.m., but Adams later died.
A short time later, a second gunshot victim arrived at a nearby fire station with a wound to the abdomen, Atlanta police said. The 32-year-old survived his injuries, but investigators determined the shootings were related.
According to the police report, the shootout occurred in the 900 block of Dimmock Street and Adams’ body was dropped off nearby. Officers found multiple shell casings at the scene and the second victim at Fire Station 14, authorities said.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A former Minneapolis police officer who held his knee to George Floyd’s neck for minutes will be tried separately from the three other former officers accused in his death, according to an order filed Tuesday that cites limited courtroom space due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Derek Chauvin will stand trial alone in March while the other three former officers will be tried together in the summer. In his order, Judge Peter Cahill cited the limitations of physical space during the coronavirus pandemic, saying it is “impossible to comply with COVID-19 physical restrictions” given how many lawyers and support personnel the four defendants say would be present.
Prosecutors disagreed with the judge’s decision. A defense attorney for former officer Thomas Lane said he believed a separate trial would be better for his client, while the other defense attorneys either declined to comment or did not return messages.
Legal observers say the change benefits Chauvin’s co-defendants, who will get a preview of what the state’s witnesses will say and more time to prepare. They’ll also blame Chauvin, who won’t be on trial with them to push back.
Floyd, a Black man, died May 25 after Chauvin, who is white, pressed his knee against Floyd’s neck while he was handcuffed face down on the street. Police were investigating whether Floyd used a counterfeit bill at a nearby store. In a video widely seen on social media, Floyd could be heard pleading with officers for air, saying he couldn’t breathe.
Floyd’s death sparked protests in Minneapolis and elsewhere and renewed calls for an end to police brutality and racial inequities.
Chauvin is charged with second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in Floyd’s death. Former officers Lane, Tou Thao and J. Alexander Kueng are each charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter.

Azealia Banks, the talented but often controversial rapper is back at it again.
The 29-year old "212" hit maker posted photos and a video showing her digging up her dead cat, Lucifer, placing it in a pot and boiling it.
"Lucifer 2009-2020. My Dear kitty," Azealia wrote. "Thank you for everything. A legend. An icon. Forever a serval serve."
Over the last couple of years Banks has worried fans with her bizarre behavior.
In 2016, she admitted to practicing “brujería” (the Spanish word for witchcraft) before showing a closet floor where she apparently had been sacrificing chickens. Feathers and hardened blood stains covered the floor.
Banks has also talked about depression, while hinting at thoughts of suicide.
In August of last year she shaved her head bald.
"All this stress energy and break-up energy...I'm about to have my Britney Spears moment," she said at the time. "I feel like Britney, b*tch on some 2007 sh*t. I'm gonna shave my head b*tch, just to feel fresh again."
We wish Azealia the best, and hope she overcomes whatever seems to be troubling her.

The FBI is honing in on 10 to 15 members of the Capitol Police, investigating whether they facilitated the insurrection by assisting in the planning of the riot and/or clearing the path for the rioters to overtake the Capitol.
Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ, the FBI has made "considerable headway" in its investigation of the officers in question, and -- as it was put to us -- the conduct of the cops in question "ranges from getting out of the way of the rioters to something much more nefarious."
As for what's "more nefarious," as TMZ reported, the FBI believes some of the officers and other staffers in the building may have facilitated the takeover by helping the rioters navigate the building. The FBI believes certain moves were extremely suspicious, like almost instantly finding Nancy Pelosi's office even though a member of the public would probably have to search for an hour or more to find it. Something else suspicious ... how did rioters beeline for Rep. Jim Clyburn's office when the door does not even have a nameplate?
Our sources say the FBI looked at all the video and honed in on cops who were not blocking the path of the rioters. That isn't in itself a criminal offense, but the FBI believes people who didn't block the rioters may have more involvement. Two officers have already been suspended by the Department, but the FBI's conducting a criminal investigation.
To be fair to the officers ... as one source put it, some of them who stepped back from the riot may have done so because members of Congress had already been moved to a secure location, and the cops felt they would have gotten killed if they tried protecting property.
Our sources say the FBI investigation is far along, and they're not just looking at Capitol cops. They're looking at other staffers in the building as well.

FRANKFURT, Jan 12 (Reuters) - Deutsche Bank will not do business in the future with U.S. President Donald Trump or his companies in the wake of his supporters’ deadly Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol, the New York Times reported.
Deutsche Bank is Trump’s most important lender, with about $340 million in loans outstanding to the Trump Organization, the president’s umbrella group that is currently overseen by his two sons.
The NYT cited a person familiar with the bank’s thinking.
A spokesman for Deutsche Bank declined to comment on Tuesday. The Trump Organization did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment outside normal business hours, and the White House press office did not answer the phone.
Christiana Riley, the head of the bank’s U.S. operations, last week condemned last week’s violence in a post on LinkedIn.
“We are proud of our Constitution and stand by those who seek to uphold it to ensure that the will of the people is upheld and a peaceful transition of power takes place,” she wrote.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The FBI is warning of plans for armed protests at all 50 state capitals & in Washington, D.C., in the days leading up to President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration, stoking fears of more bloodshed after last week’s deadly siege at the U.S. Capitol.
An internal FBI bulletin warned, as of Sunday, that the nationwide protests may start later this week & extend through Biden’s Jan. 20 inauguration, according to two law enforcement officials who read details of the memo to The Associated Press. Investigators believe some of the people are members of extremist groups, the officials said.
“Armed protests are being planned at all 50 state capitols from 16 January through at least 20 January, & at the U.S. Capitol from 17 January through 20 January,” the bulletin said, according to one official.
The FBI issued at least one other bulletin — they go out to law enforcement nationwide on the topic — before the riots last week. On Dec. 29, it warned of the potential for armed demonstrators targeting legislatures, the second official said.
Army Gen. Daniel Hokanson, chief of the National Guard Bureau, told reporters Monday that the Guard is also looking at any issues across the country,
“We’re keeping a look across the entire country to make sure that we’re monitoring, and that our Guards in every state are in close coordination with their local law enforcement agencies to provide any support requested,” he said.
The riots followed weeks of online calls for violence in the nation’s capital in the waning days of Donald Trump’s presidency.

Larry Rendell Brock -- the retired Air Force lieutenant colonel who's one of the Capitol insurrectionists last week -- can thank his ex-wife for his arrest.
As we reported -- Brock was the guy photographed holding zip ties inside the Senate chamber and was pretty easy to ID as he was decked out in body armor, a military helmet and a tag with a Punisher skull ... but his former spouse provided further intel to law enforcement.
According to a federal affidavit ... Brock's ex-wife of 18 years called the FBI National Threat Operations Center (NTOC) on Friday to turn him in.
The woman told the feds she recognized him from his military getup, adding ... "I just know that when I saw this was happening I was afraid he would be there. I think you already know he was there. It is such a good picture of him and I recognize his patch."
The affidavit says a second witness also reported Brock to the FBI the same day, telling the authorities ... "It looks like him and he has pilot wings on his chest in this picture. He was an A-10 pilot. Worked at L3, and he still has contacts that work with L3 that knew he was flying to Washington DC."
Brock was arrested shortly afterward and is facing one count of knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, and one count of violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.
As for why he did what he did, he says it's because "The President asked for his supporters to be there to attend, and I felt like it was important."
He has denied any nefarious intentions with the zip ties though, claiming he found them inside the Capitol and planned to return them to police.
Of course, another man was seen with zip ties, and coupled with explosives being found near the area of the attempted coup ... it sure seems like the riots could have been much worse.
The FBI is still working on tracking down all involved and making arrests ... but they're off to a pretty good start.

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A school security officer is out of a job after being accused of using excessive force on a student in Pompano Beach.
The incident happened Thursday at the Youth Under Construction Youth Center on North Powerline Road.
The security guard can be seen taking a student’s cell phone before the situation escalates and he is pulled from his chair and into another room.
That is where the security guard, now identified as Alie Joseph, 25, appeared to try and handcuff the student before tackling him to the ground.
Delvin King, the school’s principal said Joseph works for a subcontracted security company.
“I didn’t know if it was a physical altercation or if it was some type of threat assessment and they had to detain the student, so I allowed security to attempt to detain the student until I could do a full investigation. That’s when I found out the situation pretty much wasn’t what I thought it was,” King told Local 10 News.
King is now working with the Broward Sheriff’s Office and Joseph is expected to face charges.

Dr. Dre is still in intensive care, one week after he was rushed to the hospital after suffering a brain aneurysm, and doctors are still trying to figure out what happened.
Sources connected to Dre with direct knowledge tell TMZ ... Dre's where he's been since last Monday -- in ICU at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in L.A. Our sources say doctors continue to do a battery of tests to get to the root problem. Doctors also want him in ICU in case, God forbid, he suffers another aneurysm ... if that happens, time would be of the essence.
We don't know if Dre has gone into surgery, but that's usually the case to stop bleeding.
As for his current state ... the music legend is resting comfortably, and perhaps even more encouraging, our sources say docs have cautiously informed his family that a "bad outcome" doesn't appear to be on the horizon.
TMZ broke the story ... Dre suffered the aneurysm at his Pacific Palisades home Monday and was rushed by ambulance to Cedars.
