Video After The Jump

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Authorities in Columbus, Ohio, have released police body camera footage showing the moments early Tuesday when an officer on a nonemergency call fatally shot a Black man who was holding a cellphone as he emerged from a garage.

The video released Wednesday shows the Columbus officer approaching an open garage and the man walking along a car out of the garage.

The man, identified as Andre' Maurice Hill, is holding up the phone in his left hand.

The officer fires and Hill drops to the ground.

The officer is then heard yelling at Hill to move his hands to the side and to roll over.

The officer, Adam Coy, and a female officer responded to a call from the neighborhood that reported a vehicle running in the street on and off for an extended period of time, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

The officers did not have their body cameras turned on at the time of the shooting, however the Columbus Dispatch reports the cameras have a 60-second "look back" feature that captures 60-seconds of video, no audio, before a camera is turned on.

The video released Thursday indicates the officer turned on the body camera immediately after the shooting.

Columbus police confirm Coy has been relieved of duty as of Tuesday afternoon.

Taraji P. Henson revealed something shocking ... she seriously flirted with the idea of suicide for 2 days during the pandemic. She was thinking about opening her home safe, grabbing her gun that was inside, and ending it all.

Taraji was on her "Peace of Mind" show on Facebook Watch, when she opened up about 2 nights of dark thoughts. She said she was in a bad place and started thinking about suicide for 2 nights in a row. She said she was thinking about getting the gun she had in the safe, but never actually opened it.

She tried to talk herself out of it by thinking about her son, but she figured he was an adult and would get over it.

Taraji said she woke up after the second night and called a friend, blurting out she was thinking of killing herself. The "Hidden Figures" star said she felt it was important to tell a friend because if it remained secret, it would become a plan.

Taraji was speaking to Dr. LasShonda Green and her co-host, Tracie Jade.

The actress had lots of changes this year. She turned 50 and ended her engagement to Kelvin Hayden.

Psychiatrists warn suicide is a real problem during these times ... even with successful people who seemingly have it together.

There's lots of help out there, from teletherapy to suicide prevention hotlines.

The Detroit Pistons announced Wednesday that the organization is hiring rapper Big Sean to be something called the Creative Director of Innovation, a title that surely means something to someone. This news came hours prior to the team's season opener against the Timberwolves.

Big Sean's musical identity has revolved around representing the city of Detroit since the beginning of his career, having released two projects -- one mixtape and one album -- named after his hometown. In his new role with his hometown team, he "will provide creative counsel and strategic guidance on a variety of Pistons off-the-court initiatives, including team merchandise design, in-game experience, co-branded community, and social responsibility activation, and more," according to the Detroit Pistons' website.

In addition to his influence behind the scenes, his connection to the team will be officially stamped onto the Pistons' practice jerseys, with his "Don Life" logo appearing on the front.

"Sean is an accomplished artist, philanthropist and entrepreneur. Having spent time with him and his family I know how deeply he cares about the city of Detroit," Pistons owner Tom Gores said in a press release. "We share a common desire to use the power of sports and entertainment to improve our community and make a positive impact on people's lives. I'm excited to see what we can do working together."

"It's a dream come true and a real honor to get to work with the iconic Detroit Pistons," said Big Sean. "I grew up in the city, which naturally made me a fan of the Bad Boys. I would later have a Grant Hill poster on my wall and then, against all odds, would watch the '04 Pistons go on to win the Championship, inspiring the whole city of Detroit. I look forward to creatively finding new ways to contribute to their legacy and continue their dedication to the community through sports, art, and, of course, music."

Three men were charged for their role in a drive-by shooting that left four people wounded inside an Anaheim strip club on Halloween, officials announced Monday.

The men, all residents of Anaheim, were at the Sahara Theatre strip club, located at 1210 State College Blvd., in the early hours of Oct. 31, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. After being physically removed from the club for failing to wear face masks, they shot at the strip club with an AK-47 assault rifle, authorities said.

Edgar Nava-Ayala, Daniel Juvenal Ocampo, and Juan Jose Acosta-Soto — who all pleaded not guilty — are accused of driving back to the club after they were removed, with a loaded AK-47. Nava-Ayala is accused of shooting at least 15 rounds into the business, injuring two employees and a customer.

There were about 30 people inside the club at the time, police said.

The three victims sustained gunshot wounds to the upper body. One of them had to undergo surgery and another suffered a shattered left scapula, prosecutors said.

Although the DA’s office says three people were shot, Anaheim police investigators said four people suffered wounds ranging from minor to moderate in severity.

Nava-Ayala, 34, was charged with three felony counts of attempted murder with premeditation and deliberation, three felony counts of assault with an assault weapon, and one felony count of shooting into an occupied building. He was also charged with seven felony enhancements of personal use of an assault weapon and three felony enhancements of causing great bodily injury.

He faces a maximum sentence of 82 years to life in state prison if convicted on all charges.

Ocampo, 22, was charged with three felony counts of attempted murder with premeditation and deliberation, three felony counts of assault with an assault weapon, and one felony count of shooting into an occupied building. He was also charged with seven felony enhancements of supplying a firearm for the commission of a felony.

Ocampo faces a maximum sentence of 21 years to life in state prison if convicted on all charges.

Acosta-Soto, 20, was charged with three felony counts of assault with an assault weapon and one felony count of shooting into an occupied building. He faces a maximum sentence of 17 years and four months in state prison if convicted on all charges.

Nava-Ayala, Ocampo, and Acosta-Soto were arrested by the Anaheim Police Department on Dec. 17. They are being held at the Orange County Jail on $5 million bail each.

Video After The Jump

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - There is a major break in a 10-year-old murder mystery involving a young mother who disappeared without a trace. Police say they now know who killed 24-year-old Unique Harris, although her body has never been recovered.

This story has been thrust into the national spotlight because there were so many questions and so few answers, but now there’s a new development that could lead to healing.

It was a mystery no one saw coming.

“We had been trying to contact her for like weeks and we wouldn’t hear anything and the phone would go to voicemail or what have you,” Laurette Turner said.

It wouldn’t take long for Turner to get the devastating call. The mother of her two grandchildren was nowhere to be found. Unique Harris had just moved from the Richmond area to Washington D.C. to start a new life in 2010. One day, her children woke up to find their mother wasn’t there.

Police searched for Harris for 8 years before presuming her to be dead.

“They’ll never forget their mom but they were able to deal with it a little bit better because their dad was still in the picture, even though they miss her extremely and they do talk about her a lot,” Turner explained. That’s when she stepped up. “I decided and my son asked me to help him to raise his children and I said, ‘that’s what I’m going to do’ and that’s what I did, I helped him raise them.”

It’s been 10 years now and out of nowhere came the phone the family had been waiting for.

“The detective called me this morning and he said ‘make sure you tell your grandsons and your son that we have arrested the guy’,” Turner said.

Over the weekend, DC Police charged 43-year-old Isaac Moye with 2nd-degree murder. Turner says he knew Harris. News of an arrest is what she believes will help her two grandsons begin to heal. Today, they’re teenagers who attend Varina High School.

“The boys haven’t had any closure. They were so young. They had forgotten a lot but they didn’t have closure to what had possibly happened to her…That’s justice for me. That’s why I’m glad this person has been named and is charged…It’s been a long, hard road,” Turner added.

One of Harris’ sons will turn 16 years old Tuesday. Police made the arrest in his mother’s death three days before his birthday.

John “Ecstasy” Fletcher, rapper and founding member of the pioneering hip-hop group Whodini, has died at the age of 56. The group’s Grand Master Dee confirmed Fletcher’s death to Variety. No cause of death was provided.

News of Fletcher’s death was first revealed by the Roots’ Questlove, with many others in the rap community also mourning the death of the Whodini rapper. “One Love to Ecstasy of the Legendary #Whodini,” Questlove wrote on social media. “This man was legendary and a pivotal member of one of the most legendary groups in hip hop. This is sad man.”

“RIP to Ecstasy from Whodini. One of the most underappreciated voices in hip-hop,” Q-Tip tweeted. “Too many hits! ”My God, this one hurts me so bad,I can’t even believe I’m posting this, Ex you know I love you."

One of the first rap groups to break into the mainstream, the New York City-based Whodini are best known for Eighties hip-hop classics like “Friends” — a crossover hit in 1984, pop’s greatest year — and “Freaks Come Out at Night,” both from the then-duo’s 1984 LP Escape. Fletcher served as co-vocalist in the group, with the rapper notably appearing onstage with his trademark Zorro-like hat.

Whodini — Fletcher and Jalil Hutchins, the main creative force behind the group — came out of the early Eighties New York hip-hop scene that produced Afrika Bambaataa, Kurtis Blow and Run-D.M.C.; with the latter group, Whodini shared a manager (Russell Simmons) and a collaborator (producer Larry Smith).

After signing with the then-London-based label Jive, Whodini traveled to Europe to record their first self-titled album, which was in part produced by “She Blinded Me With Science” hitmaker Thomas Dolby and krautrock legend Conny Plank. The LP spawned a couple of singles, including “The Haunted House of Rock” and “Magic’s Wand,” the latter a tribute track to DJ Magic Mike that is also credited with being the first rap music video. #whodini #johnecstacyfletcher #ripecstacy #ripjohnfletcher #ripjohnecstacyfletcher #jalilhutchins #grandmasterdee #legend #pioneer #thomasdobly #russellsimmons #restinpeace #rip #onelove #hiphopnews #rapnews #hiphop #hiphopmusic #rundmc #kurtisblow

Tekashi 6ix9ine Sued By Victims Of 2018 Robbery

12353633864?profile=original

The victims from one of Tekashi 6ix9ine's crimes are going after him in court ... demanding he pay up for what they suffered when Tekashi and co. robbed them.

Seketha Wonzer and Kevin Dozier just filed suit against the rapper, claiming he was part of the criminal conspiracy set in motion in April 2018 that led to them getting bum-rushed and robbed at gunpoint in NYC -- something Tekashi himself testified and pled guilty to in federal court.

In the docs, obtained by TMZ, Wonzer and Dozier say they lost a bundle during the robbery -- including shoes, master recordings, hard drives, precious jewelry, a camera and cash, among other items. They say the whole thing was a case of mistaken identity -- Tekashi and co. allegedly thought they were affiliated with Rap-A-Lot Records, but they say they weren't.

In the suit, filed by powerhouse attorney Joe Tacopina, they say although Tekashi didn't do the robbing himself ... he did film the whole thing from an SUV outside, while his cohorts in the Nine Trey Bloods did the dirty work. In any case, Wonzer and Dozier now want him to pay for the assault, battery and emotional distress they say they suffered.

The defendants say that because Tekashi copped to this crime in court already, his civil liability for the damages is beyond question.

We'd already spoken to Wonzer -- who also goes by Skyy Daniels -- after Tekashi testified against 2 Nine Trey members, and she didn't think his 2-year prison sentence was fair.

Skyy also told us flatly she wanted to see him pay for what he'd done to her. Tacopina, tells TMZ ... "If Tekashi69 thought his legal problems were over after pleading guilty to brutally assaulting my clients, he was woefully mistaken."

He adds, "We do know this now -- if he refuses to redress the injuries he caused my clients, he’ll sincerely regret that decision."

Tekashi's attorney, Lance Lazzaro, tells TMZ, "We will defend this lawsuit vigorously."

COLE CAMP, Mo. (AP) — A 4-year-old girl died after being dunked in an icy pond and beaten by two neighbors who claimed it was necessary to remove a “demon,” a Missouri sheriff said Tuesday.

Ethan Mast, 35, and Kourtney Aumen, 21, are charged with second-degree murder and other offenses. Both are jailed without bond and don’t yet have attorneys, according to court records.

“Based on what I know, I think this could be some kind of honest-to-goodness religious-type episode,” Benton County Sheriff Eric Knox said in a phone interview. The suspects and the victimized family belonged to the same church, but Knox declined to name the church or its denomination.

Deputies were called around 1 a.m. Sunday to a rural home near the town of Cole Camp and found the 4-year-old wrapped in a blanket on a bedroom floor. A probable cause statement from Sgt. Chris Wilson said the girl was already dead and had “severe purple bruising” over her body, along with ruptured blisters.

Knox said the girl’s parents also had been beaten along with a 2-year-old child. An infant son of the couple was apparently unharmed. The mother, 28-year-old Mary Mast, and the toddler are hospitalized. Their conditions weren’t immediately available. The father of the children, James Mast, did not require hospitalization.

Despite having the same last names, Mary and James Mast are not related to Ethan Mast, Knox said.

Ethan Mast and Aumen live across the road from the family. James Mast told investigators that the beatings had occurred over several days and that he and his wife observed them but were told they would be beaten or shot if they tried to intervene.

Still, Wilson asked James Mast “how he could let people do this to his family and he stated they were told (his wife) had a ‘Demon’ inside her and her children would end up just like her if it was not taken care of,” Wilson wrote in the probable cause statement.

Ethan Mast told investigators that on Saturday, he and Aumen used a leather belt to beat the girl, the statement said. She was then taken to a pond behind the home where she was “dunked” in the water on a day when high temperatures were in the 40s.

Ethan Mast said everyone then returned to the victims’ home. It wasn’t clear when the child died. An autopsy will determine the cause of death. Knox said evidence indicated she was beaten to death.

Benton County, with about 19,000 residents, is about 100 miles southeast of Kansas City, Missouri.
