A Florida man was sentenced to life in prison on Friday for hiring one of his friends as a hitman to kill his pregnant wife in order to collect on her life insurance policy during the summer of 2017.

Euri Jenkins, 35, was convicted by Palm Beach County jurors of murder in the first degree over the murder-for-hire plot that took the life of 33-year-old Makeva Jenkins.

“This has been a long struggle for me & what has happened to my daughter has affected my life & the life of my family,” the victims’ grandmother, Glora Harold, told the court before addressing the killer and the outcome of the proceedings. “I have nothing bad to say about him. All I wanted was justice for my child. Nobody wins in the case.”

On June 29, 2017, gunman Joevan Joseph, 24, broke into the couple’s Lantana, Fla. home. Wearing a mask, he shot the mother of 3 in the head while she slept. Joseph was 1 of 3 men arrested in connection with the doubly deficient scheme to reward murder.

The violence would all be for naught. The 3 men were, of course, unsuccessful in covering up their crime after the fact. Euri Jenkins would only later learn, in the weeks after his wife’s murder, that he was not listed as a beneficiary on her $500,000 life insurance policy.

The third man, Dametri Dale, 23, began the state’s case against the defendant by testifying that he arranged the meeting between the since-convicted husband and the man who carried out the plot. Dale previously agreed to a plea deal on charges of murder in the second degree as a cooperating witness. He received 15 years probation for his efforts after turning himself in last month.

Joseph’s sentencing hearing was postponed until after his testimony in Euri Jenkins’ murder trial. The shooter faces a minimum or 5 & a maximum of 20 years behind bars. He also previously pleaded guilty to murder in the second degree for his role in the killing.

A Texas woman was arrested after a bizarre encounter inside a Walmart store where she is accused of offering another shopper $500,000 to buy the woman’s baby.

Rebecca Taylor, 49, was charged with sale or purchase of a child & was released from the Houston County Sheriff’s Office on a $50,000 bond.

The alleged incident occurred at a store in Crockett, Texas, which is near Houston. The two women were reportedly on the self-checkout line last week. The mother — who was with her baby and 1-year-old — told police that the woman commented on her son’s blond hair & blue eyes & asked how much he costs.

The report said the mother laughed off the comment, but the woman allegedly said she had $250,000 in her car. The mom claimed another woman was with Taylor at one point. The mother said she alerted authorities.

The mother waited for the 2 women to leave the store, but they allegedly waited in the parking lot & screamed at her that the offer was now $500,000. The women eventually left.

Police said in the affidavit they watched video from the scene & it appeared to match the mother’s claim.

(CNN) Low-income families of color in Oakland, California, could receive some extra financial assistance over the next year and a half.

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf announced this week that the city will launch a guaranteed income project to give hundreds of Black and Indigenous families and people of color $500 per month for 18 months.
The project's payments will be unconditional, and recipients may spend the money however they choose.

The Oakland Resilient Families program is the latest trial of a "guaranteed income" system of wealth distribution, where residents are given a set amount of money per month to supplement the existing social safety net.

The project targets groups with the city's greatest wealth disparities, per the Oakland Equality Index, which reveals the median income for White households in Oakland to be nearly three times that of Black households.

"The poverty we all witness today is not a personal failure, it is a systems failure," Schaaf said in a statement. "Guaranteed income is one of the most promising tools for systems change, racial equity and economic mobility we've seen in decades."

Guaranteed income is different from Universal Basic Income (UBI), which would provide enough income to meet everyone's basic needs.

Instead, guaranteed income is only meant to supplement other wages and programs for low-income residents, helping to build the "income floor" on which people in poverty can begin to build financially secure lives.

Although the idea has seen a resurgence in recent years, it's not new -- Martin Luther King, Jr. advocated for it in his 1967 book, "Where Do We Go from Here: Chaos or Community?"

"I'm now convinced that the simplest approach will prove to be the most effective -- the solution to poverty is to abolish it directly by a now widely discussed measure: the guaranteed income," King wrote.

Chief Keef has a deep financial hole to dig himself out of.

The 23-year old rapper, born Keith Cozart, reportedly owes nearly $500,000 in back child support to his baby's mother, Erica Early.

According to AllHipHop, the child was born in 2013. Keef initially agreed to pay the 43-year old woman $2,500 a month, but never coughed up a dime. At one point Early tried to have him arrested.

Early eventually won a judgement ordering Keef to pay over $10,000 in support for their daughter.

He's now being dragged into court later this month because Early claims Keef now owes her $471,910, plus interest.

The "I Don't Like" hit maker has nine children with nine different women.

George Jung, famously known as "Boston George," spoke exclusively to VladTV about growing his pot empire, which was portrayed in the 2001 Johnny Depp movie, "Blow."

George started out by telling us how he made "hundreds of thousands" of dollars out of college after figuring out that buying pot at L.A. prices and selling it at a higher price in his home state of Massachusetts could net him a hefty profit. From there, Jung branched out to Mexico to get his supply after promising that he could get the weed out of the country in a plane, despite not knowing how to fly. He explained that he successfully pulled off stealing a plane the first time around, but he decided to step things up by getting an actual pilot to move the pot into the U.S., which continued on for some time.

During the conversation George also spoke about making the equivalent to $500,000,000 in today's money at the height of his career selling weed, which you can hear more about in the clip below.

The player and his wife, Adrienne, were out celebrating his 29th birthday at the time of the break in. When they got home they realized their closet had been ransacked. Bosh contacted his security director and his assistant. Police were called at 12:30 a.m.

There were no signs of forced entry, however two doors were unlocked.

"We are leaning on the side of this being an inside job," Miami Beach Police spokesman Bobby Hernandez told NBC Miami.

Police are interviewing the babysitters and checking to see if any contractors had been to the home recently.

The home is equipped with surveillance cameras and an alarm. The alarm wasn't activated because the babysitters were there. Authorities are reviewing tape from the cameras looking for leads

In what turned out to be one of the largest hauls of crystal meth and the biggest heroin bust in Australian history authorities smashed a Hong Kong-linked international drugs syndicate.

The bust was the culmination of a year-long operation following a tip-off from US authorities according to the Daily Mail.

"This was an 11 month investigation where we've had tight control over a number of people who we suspected of being involved in illicit narcotic importations," Australian deputy police commissioner Andrew Colvin said. "This has prevented half a billion dollars of drugs reaching Australian streets"

Seven people, four from Hong Kong and three from Australia, were detained. They ranged in age from between 29 and 61-years-old.

The drugs were hidden inside terracotta pots from Thailand.

A couple of weeks ago police in the Chicago suburb of Rolling Hills were praising Robert J. Adams as a hero for turning in $17,021 in cash he found.

Yesterday, Adams was cited for filing a false report with the Rolling Meadows Police Department and fined $500 after police discovered he lied about where he had found the money.

On June 6 Adams discovered the bag of money outside of a Walgreens in Midlothian. He tried turning it into a nearby bank, but they said it didn't belong to them according to the Daily Mail.

Adams then took the money to another bank near his home in Rolling Hills and turned it in. He told police he found the cash outside of a newspaper stand there.

After an investigation by police and the FBI, the real story was revealed and Adams was subsequently cited and fined.

"I know now a little better than I knew then," he told the Chicago Tribune. "I feel very badly and understand why I should have told the truth. I wasn't looking for a reward. I was just doing the right thing. I accept the fine. I'm very sorry about this whole thing."

And police wonder why more people don't do what Adams did initially... smh.

LOS ANGELES – Jamie Foxx wanted to entertain a group of musically inclined high school students with a few bars from his Grammy winning hit, "Blame It."

But since the song is an ode to the effects of alcohol, he changed the lyrics to "Blame it on the a-a-a-apple juice." The kids roared.

"I changed it so you guys could sing it," he joked.

Students from four high schools gathered Tuesday at Walt Disney Concert Hall, where Foxx helped present new violins, flutes, French horns, trumpets and drums valued at $500,000 to students from 16 schools nationwide.

The instruments are part of the Fidelity FutureStage program, an effort by the investment firm to enrich arts education in public schools.

Founded in 2006, the program provides instruments, specialized training by professional musicians, and a chance for aspiring artists to perform with renowned orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Boston Pops.

Foxx told students he began as a classical pianist and eventually won a scholarship to study the instrument in college.

"That allowed me to come to L.A. and work on my craft," he said. "Then I went into acting and comedy, and then it was Ray Charles ..."

Foxx, 42, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of Charles in "Ray," got the crowd fired up and had them chanting "mu-sic, mu-sic" before students came on stage to accept shiny new saxophones, clarinets and other instruments.

"This is way better than our old stuff," one student said.

Dominic Monaghan hosted the program, which was simulcast in Boston, Houston, Chicago and Los Angeles. Students in all four cities performed and received donated instruments.

After the program, Foxx praised Fidelity for stepping in where public funding had failed. He also encouraged other companies to participate.

"Even if a kid is not going to be the greatest musician in the world, just the fact that you gave him something, the fact that you said, 'hey, I care about you,' that's what it's about," Foxx said.

Anthony Lawrence (l.) and Shamel King are charged with dealing drugs. NY Daily News Reports Members of a brazen Brooklyn crack gang raked in more than $500,000 in taxpayer money by repeatedly suing the city for civil rights violations, records show. Accused drug dealers from the East 21st St. Crew and associates sued the city more than 20 times - and the city settled every time, even though many of the same people sued again and again. The reason: The city's policy of aggressively settling cases rather than risk a big judgment after a costly trial. Law enforcement officials are outraged at the repercussions. "They [the reputed drug dealers] are raising hell in the community and collecting judgments on top of it," one police source said. "They were emboldened; taunting cops." Authorities say the gang ran a street-level crack operation that wreaked havoc on an East Flatbush neighborhood before being busted last month. Investigators say they have gang members on tape making more than 100 sales to undercover cops in two years. "This was a very violent crack crew," city Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan said. "A real thorn in the side of the community." Incredibly, court records show the gang pulled in much better money from suing the city in Brooklyn Federal Court, claiming cops violated their civil rights. One crew member, Shamel King, got $117,500 from the city, in six separate claims, including one for $35,000 and three for $20,000 each. King, charged with 37 sales, was caught on video smiling as he counted out crack rocks, a law enforcement source said. A main target of the East 21st St. Crew, Anthony Lawrence, was shot multiple times and wounded Aug. 31 in his apartment, apparently by gunmen who went to rob him of his latest settlement check from the city - for $17,500, law enforcement sources said. Lawrence collected $40,000 in settlements. He was indicted on 11 counts of drug selling. Another reputed crew member, Affection Johnson, got three settlements totaling $41,500. Johnson was indicted on 39 counts. "It's crazy," said Michael Palladino, president of the Detectives Endowment Association. "How could this happen more than once?" Law Department spokeswoman Connie Pankratz said, "Within the last 10 years, there has been a significant increase in the number of cases that we've settled." She said the city is sued 200 times a week, and that claims against the police have increased. As of July 1, the city has paid out $637.7 million in judgments and settlements this year. The department "is responsible for protecting the city's [fiscal situation]," she said. "Although we are often successful at trial, it can be more expensive to defend a case than to settle it." She said that since the indictment, these cases were being reviewed "at the highest levels" of the department. Asked if the agency would make any changes to prevent such an egregious playing of the system, she said, "We would like to prevent this, but each case has to be weighed." Asked if city lawyers checked into King's background after the first three suits, Pankratz said they believed it was more responsible to settle than go to trial. In the suits, some of which date back several years, the accused dealers claimed that cops - most of them assigned to Brooklyn South Narcotics - fabricated cases, conducted illegal strip searches, falsely arrested them and harassed them while they were merely walking down the street. They sued after their arrests were dropped or adjourned contemplating dismissal. The majority of the suits were handled by lawyer Richard Cardinale, who was successful in a class-action suit against the city for illegal strip searches at Rikers Island, and in cases against Brooklyn South Narcotics cops. He said the clients paid him one-third of their settlements as his fee. "The cases that I brought, those individuals were innocent of those charges," Cardinale said. "The district attorney had dismissed the cases." He suggested the recent indictment was retaliation. "I spoke to some of the families, and they said the officers who arrested them made comments like, 'You like to bring stupid lawsuits?'" The dozen accused members of the East 21st St. Crew were indicted in September. Eight were arrested; four already were in jail. Undercovers made dozens of crack purchases in and around the Ditmas Arms on E. 21st St., where King and Lawrence live. Brennan said the gang made 171 sales to undercovers totaling $10,460, many from inside Star USA, a 99 cent store at Flatbush and Ditmas Aves. Cops started focusing on drug-dealing in the area after community complaints and shootings in the vicinity linked to feuding gangs. One shooting, still unsolved, took place on July 30, 2007, outside 501 E. 21st St. near Dorchester Road. Gunmen killed Robert Dixon - who had a criminal record for marijuana possession and assault - in a hail of bullets. Two women who were walking by were wounded.
