Actor Clint Eastwood and the company that owns the rights to his likeness won a $6.1 million in a lawsuit Friday against a company in Lithuania that allegedly used his image to imply he supports their products.
R. Gary Klausner of U.S. District Court for the Central District of California awarded Eastwood & the company Garrapata $6 million for unauthorized use of his name & likeness after Mediatonas UAB did not respond to a summons from March, & they also had to pay approximately $95,000 in attorneys’ fees.
The company is also blocked from ever using his name & likeness again.
Eastwood filed two lawsuits last year in federal court against three manufacturers and marketers of CBD, short for cannabidiol, which is a part of the cannabis plant that does not lead to a high. The first lawsuit claimed his likeness was used in an interview falsely designed to look like an episode of the "Today" show, which linked to a site where viewers could buy the CBD-related products.
"Mr. Eastwood has no connection of any kind whatsoever to any CBD products & never gave such an interview," according to the lawsuit.
Jordan Susman, Eastwood's lawyer, said in a statement: "In pursuing this case & obtaining this judgment, Mr. Eastwood has again demonstrated a willingness to confront wrongdoing & hold accountable those who try to illegally profit off his name, likeness & goodwill."
"It requires additional context to understand what CBD products are & why a person like Clint Eastwood would not endorse a marijuana-based product," wrote Klausner, who did not grant the lawsuit's full request for defamation because it was not "libelous on its face."
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A man wanted for the murder of his ex-girlfriend assaulted her in May and threatened to kill her last month, according to court documents.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office issued an arrest warrant for 29-year-old Cameron Davis for the murder of Ryniscia Sanford.
The 27-year-old mother of five was shot multiple times at an apartment complex on Cypress Station in north Harris County Thursday morning. Witnesses said the two had been arguing.
Sanford's mother told ABC13 their relationship was back and forth and that Davis had been violent towards her for months.
"When I came to live with her, he pulled a gun out on me, and that's what made me leave Texas and come back to Louisiana," said her mother. "I kept telling her to leave him, but she's 27. She's grown. I can't tell her nothing."
In a release, the sheriff's office said Sanford was "involved in an ongoing domestic situation" with Davis.
Court records show Davis was charged with assaulting Sanford in May. She told deputies he hit her "10 times in the face" after breaking up with him. In August, he was charged with retaliation after he allegedly threatened to murder her.
Davis, who already had a violent criminal history, was never arrested for the domestic-related charges.
"He is very dangerous and he's armed," said Sanford's cousin Teneera. "We don't want this to happen to anyone else."
This investigation came just 24 hours after an unrelated double-murder at the exact same location, 910 Cypress Station.
Friday night, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez asked to the public to "be on the look out" for Davis.

Pope Francis has joined the chorus of people calling on Missouri Gov. Mike Parson to grant clemency to a death row inmate who is set to be executed for killing 3 people during a 1994 convenience store robbery.
In a letter last week, a representative for Pope Francis wrote that the pope “wishes to place before you the simple fact of Mr. Johnson’s humanity & the sacredness of all human life,” referring to Ernest Johnson, who is scheduled to be executed at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the state prison in Bonne Terre.
Parson, a Republican, has been considering whether to reduce the 61-year-old Johnson’s sentence to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Johnson’s attorney, Jeremy Weis, has said executing him would violate the Eighth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which prohibits executing intellectually disabled people. He said multiple IQ tests and other exams have shown that Johnson has the intellectual capacity of a child. He also was born with fetal alcohol syndrome and in 2008, he lost about 20% of his brain tissue to the removal of a benign tumor.
Racial justice activists & two Missouri members of congress — Democratic U.S. Reps. Cori Bush of St. Louis & Emmanuel Cleaver of Kansas City — have also called on Parson to show Johnson mercy.
The Missouri Supreme Court in August refused to halt the execution & on Friday declined to take the case up again.
Johnson admitted to killing 3 workers at a Casey’s General Store in Columbia on Feb. 12, 1994 — manager Mary Bratcher, 46, & employees Mabel Scruggs, 57, & Fred Jones, 58. The victims were shot and attacked with a claw hammer. Bratcher also was stabbed in the hand with a screwdriver.
Johnson previously asked that his execution be carried out by firing squad, but Missouri doesn’t allow that method of execution. His lawyers argued that Missouri’s lethal injection drug, pentobarbital, could trigger seizures due to the lost brain tissue.
Andrew Wiggins just made a nearly $15 million decision -- the Warriors forward has officially put his COVID-19 standoff to rest and is vaccinated, Steve Kerr confirmed Sunday.
The 26-year-old was previously hellbent against getting the jab ... saying he had nothing against other folks being vaccinated, but it was his personal decision to elect against it.
Considering the San Francisco Dept. of Public Health currently requires anyone 12 or older to be fully vaccinated to attend indoor events, Wiggins would have missed every Warriors home game this season -- and the paycheck that comes with it.
But, Kerr says the saga is over ... telling reporters the star decided to cave in and get the vaccine.
"Andrew got vaccinated," Kerr said. "He just told me today that he was fine with us acknowledging it and that will be the end of it. I'm not going to answer any questions beyond that."
As we reported before, Wiggins had applied for a religious exemption with the NBA ... which was denied.
Now that Andrew is vaccinated, the Warriors can put their focus on the upcoming season as they look to some noise in the Western Conference this season.
Kerr said he expects Wiggins to see some action Monday night as the GSW tip off their preseason against the Portland Trail Blazers.

If Eazy-E gets a shout-out during the Super Bowl Halftime Show in L.A. it will be a touching & monumental tribute ... so says the late rapper's daughter.
Ebie tells TMZ ... she's ecstatic about the entertainment lineup for Super Bowl LVI at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, less than 15 miles from Compton, where Eazy-E grew up and formed N.W.A. with Halftime Show headliner, Dr. Dre.
Ebie, who feels her father would probably have been part of the Halftime Show lineup if he were alive, says Eazy-E would be proud because he would see an extension of himself on that stage in Compton icons Dre & Kendrick Lamar.
For that reason, she'd love for there to be some kind of acknowledgment of her father during the performance. She says Eazy-E, once the leader of N.W.A., broke barriers & revolutionized gangsta rap ... paving the way for so many other rappers.
Kendrick certainly agrees with that sentiment -- he once penned a tribute to Eazy-E in 2015 saying, "I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for Eazy."
Dre & Eazy, of course, had a falling out that culminated with Dre leaving the group and going solo. They later mended the childhood friendship to the point of reuniting N.W.A. but, sadly, Eazy-E died soon after in 1995 due to complications from HIV/AIDS.
Ebie knows the Halftime Show is not long .... especially trying to fit 5 huge stars in a roughly 20-minute slot. That being said, she hopes a simple shout-out -- even a "RIP Eazy-E" -- would mean the world to her.
She says with potentially 100 million viewers watching the highly-anticipated show, she hopes a shout-out will underscore her father's contributions to the culture & keep his name alive in the city where gangsta rap was born.

ATLANTA (CBS46) — A 30-year-old Douglasville woman named Terresha Lucas has been charged with making terroristic threats in the Brookmont subdivision of Douglasville.
According to the Douglasville Police Department, residents on Manning Drive began receiving notes last December from a person who claimed to be a white male member of the Ku Klux Klan. The notes threatened to burn down homes and kill people.
The police department's investigation into the notes led them to Lucas, who is a Black woman.
Lucas, who described herself as a 6-foot tall, white male with a long, red beard, has been charged with 8 counts of making terroristic threats.
The first notes were received Dec. 21, 2020. Other notes were received Feb. 17, Feb. 22, March 1 and March 3. After a 6-month absence, a final note was received Sept. 6.
CBS46 reported in March that the notes were received by at least 7 Blacks who lived in the neighborhood and that the notes contained the N-word and talked about hanging people and killing kids.
Until Sept. 6, Douglasville PD says it did not have much to go on. However, they got the break they needed on Sept. 6 when evidence was found linking the notes to the home of Lucas. Detectives were able to obtain a search warrant and then found other evidence that ties Lucas to the notes.
