A federal grand jury indicted Roger Clemens on Thursday on charges of making false statements to Congress about his use of performance-enhancing drugs.
An indictment was returned to U.S. Magistrate Judge Deborah A. Robinson of the District at a brief hearing shortly after 1:30 p.m. The indictment charges Clemens with one count of obstruction of Congress, three counts of making false statements and two counts of perjury in connection with his February 2008 testimony before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.
If convicted, he faces 15 to 21 months in prison."Our government cannot function if witnesses are not held accountable for false statements made before Congress," said U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Mahen Jr. in a statement. "Today the message is clear: If a witness makes a choice to ignore his or her obligation to testify honestly, there will be consequences."
In February 2008, Clemens, the seven-time Cy Young Award winner who pitched for the Red Sox, Blue Jays, Yankees and Astros, and Brian McNamee, his former trainer, contradicted one another in testimony before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform about whether Clemens had used banned substances.
The hearing came after McNamee had linked Clemens to banned substances in George Mitchell's report on baseball players' use of performance-enhancing drugs. Clemens alleged that McNamee was lying; McNamee reached a deal with federal authorities to avoid prosecution for steroid distribution.
The Post reported in February 2009 that McNamee, in testimony at the hearing, said he injected Clemens nearly 40 times with steroids and human growth hormone from 1998 to 2001.
McNamee's attorneys have said that their client gave federal investigators syringes, gauze pads and other items that he claimed he used to inject Clemens. He stored the items in a FedEx box in his basement.
Clemens and his defense team have long challenged McNamee's credibility, saying the former trainer has lied about the pitcher's alleged drug use. They also have said that McNamee may have cooked up the evidence.
On Aug. 12, a federal appeals court in Houston refused to reinstate a defamation lawsuit Clemens filed against McNamee. In a 2 to 1 ruling, a panel of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals agreed with a Houston federal district judge's 2009 dismissal of most of Clemens's claims against McNamee.
In an e-mail, Rusty Hardin, Clemens's lawyer, said "we have heard nothing from the government."

After viewing Drake's 'Best I Ever Had' video, no one could deny the rapper had a fondness for females with buxom bosoms. In a recent interview with Canadian reporter Nardwuar, the former 'Degrassi' star further discussed his inclination for women with large breasts as well as being a fan of the well-endowed actress Pam Grier.
In the clip, Nardwuar inquired about a recent show in Cleveland, Ohio, where Drake used a "bra stand." The Toronto native, accompanied by producer and friend 40, let the interviewer in on the special dedication he gave to women during his concerts. "I put like the biggest breast bras on my mic stand," he admitted. "I try to showcase the fact that a full chest is nothing to be ashamed of."
Drake went on to discuss his admiration for the female anatomy. "You shouldn't go get them reduced. Breasts are a beautiful thing." While 40 laughed beside the rapper, the "Find Your Love' performer let loose about a secret possession in his collection. "I actually have an entire trunk, I think there's about 4[00] or 500 bras in this trunk," Drake said. "It's a black trunk and I carry it with me on the road. It's pretty much every bra I've ever received."
During the exchange, Nardwuar presented the Young Money affiliate with a vinyl soundtrack from the blaxploitation film 'Coffy.' Drake, visibly surprised, held the collector's item, decorated with Pam Grier's image, and revealed some shocking information about the popular movie star. "This woman... Oh man, this is gonna sound so weird," he continued, "When I first discovered what masturbation was, I used to jerk-off to Pam Grier. I think Pam Grier is really responsible for shaping my taste in women if you really look at her."
Drake's current fling, Maliah Michelle, shares some of the actress's voluptuous assets.
Kid Cudi has never been a rapper that finds it necessary to bring down another rapper in order to promote himself. He is, however, a man that apparently believes in respect and will immediately shut down those that choose to not show him such courtesy.
During a show at the House Of Blues in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, the Man on the Moon spoke on his recent activity involving the assault on a fan that resulted in him being ejected from Lady Gaga's tour.
The media has found many different angles and spins to place on the incident so Cudi has found no other alternative but to provide a little clarity and defend himself.
"They trying to make me look like the poster boy for violence and ignorance," Cudi said. "I tell motherf*ckers I'm the poster boy for honesty, realness, anarchy, I don't give a f*ck about this business."
Almost like a punching bag, the young rapper has been placed under the microscope and beaten by many, being judged for his preference and methods in showcasing his material his own distinct way.
What started as a response turned quickly into his own uproar as the rapper proceeded to provide further commentary on the music industry and how his own experiences have forever changed his perceptions on particular artists.
"I'm the truest motherf*cker in this business and people trying to destroy me. All these other n*ggas that y'all probably fans of is sucker a** n*ggas, I met them. N*ggas I was a fan of when I was buying their CDs, I'm not a fan of they music no more. This business is WWF fam and if you don't comply, they try to destroy you...I never talk sh*t, I came to this game, just wanted to smoke my weed and motherf*ckers just wanna destroy me, I don't give a f*ck. I'm unstoppable."
