Dallas native & star American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson has first-hand experience with drug-testing disputes at the Olympic level.
And she weighed in Monday with a series of tweets about the ongoing doping controversy in women’s figure skating at the Winter Olympics in Beijing.
Russian gold-medal favorite Kamila Valieva, 15, tested positive for a banned substance Dec. 25, but the results did not become public until after she skated in the Olympic team competition last week.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled Monday that Valieva could continue in the individual competition this week. However there will be a full investigation, led but the Russian anti-doping agency, after the Games. The World Anti-Doping Agency will have the right to appeal any ruling by RUSADA.
The focus of any future investigation will be on Valieva’s coaches, doctors, nutritionists, etc., as athletes under 16 typically aren’t held responsible for taking banned substances.
The decision contrasts the suspension 21-year-old Richardson, a 2018 Carter graduate, faced after testing positive for THC, an ingredient in marijuana, at the U.S track & field Olympic trials in June.
Richardson said afterward she ingested marijuana before the competition as a way to cope with the “emotional panic” of learning about the death of her biological mother.
The drug test result negated Richardson’s flashy, first-place finish at the trials & disqualified her, by USA Track & Field procedures, from competing in the Tokyo Olympics.
“Can we get a solid answer on the difference of her situation & mines?” Richardson posted to Twitter on Monday. “My mother died & I can’t run & was also favored to place top 3. The only difference I see is I’m a black young lady.”
“It’s all in the skin,” Richardson tweeted two hours later.
The World Anti-Doping Agency prohibits the use of marijuana close to competition, but experts say the substance has little performance-enhancing value.
Trimetazidine, for which Valieva tested positive, is intended to increase blood flow to the heart for patients that have chest pain. It is not approved for sale in the U.S.
Some experts say the drug can increase stamina and endurance potentially benefiting training & recovery.
“[By the way,] THC definitely is not a performance enhance!!!” Richardson tweeted.
Richardson continued: “Failed in December & the world just now know however my resulted was posted within a week & my name & talent was slaughtered to the people.
“Not one BLACK athlete has been about to compete with a case going on, I don’t care what they say!!!”

ARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- Four middle school students are in custody after videos circulating social media showed them attacking a Langham Creek High School Coach on campus on Thursday, Feb. 10.
The Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District also confirmed threats were made on social media against the school on Friday.
Thursday's attack happened when 4 middle school students, who officials confirmed are from Aragon Middle School, were on the high school campus during baseball practice.
Michael Shott, an assistant baseball coach & physics teacher at Langham Creek High, was injured in the attack.
"He's doing fine. He's at home. He has a broken arm, but the kids said that he's doing what he's always done & he's fine," said Peggy Shott, Michael's mother. "The reason it happened to him was because he was doing his job. He stopped the kids. Well, there was only one kid at first. The reason the others came back is because they didn't like him stopping them."
On Friday, extra security was put on campus following the threats made on social media.
"They should be ashamed of themselves," added his mother, Keisha Wisniewski, after watching the video.
"She told me that there was a threat that somebody was going to come shoot up the school. So I immediately went up & got her after first period," said parent Jason Lodes, about his freshman daughter.

KATY (Click2Houston) – An umpire was arrested after authorities say he was in possession of drugs while working around children at a little league tournament in Katy this week.
Deputies were called to the 24900 block of Morton Ranch Road Saturday when witnesses reported seeing suspicious activity from the umpire while he was in his car.
When authorities arrived at the scene, deputies say they found 2.7 grams of crystal meth inside the umpire’s vehicle.
Deputies arrested 35-year-old Brent Thrasher & have since charged him with possession of a controlled substance.
His bond was set at $2,500 & he has since bailed out of the Harris County jail.
Trasher has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 2006 when he was arrested for possession of marijuana.
He was most recently arrested in 2018 by the Beaumont Police Department for Obstruction or Retaliation, meaning he threatened to harm a public servant in retaliation. He was convicted on that third-degree felony charge.
The owner of Perfect Game, the organization hosting the tournament, provided the following statement:
“This umpire will never work for us again. Brent Thrasher worked for us years ago & one of our umpire assigners brought him back on for Saturday’s game. He does not consistently umpire for the little league games. It is by federal law that we background check everyone who works for Perfect Game & we look for violence against women & children charges or sexual violence charges.”

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — 50 Cent made a surprise upside-down entrance at the Super Bowl halftime show & Eminem dramatically took a knee.
The show brought about as much hip-hop as a stadium can hold, with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem & Kendrick Lamar spitting a fiery medley of their hits.
As his rendition of “Lose Yourself” ended, Eminem took a knee & held his head in his hand in apparent tribute to former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who took a knee during the national anthem to protest police brutality during the 2016 season. Other players followed suit & the move created widespread cultural controversy. Kaepernick would be out of the league soon after.
The NFL denied reports that it was attempting to stop Eminem from making the gesture.
“We watched all elements of the show during multiple rehearsals this week & were aware that Eminem was going to do that,” league spokesman Brian McCarthy said.
It was a rare Super Bowl halftime show performed in the daylight, but it still had a feeling of a nightclub at SoFi Stadium on Sunday, with a set made up to look like the houses of nearby Compton & South LA.
Dre and Snoop opened the show with “Next Episode” & “California Love.”
50 Cent, not among the announced performers, started his “In Da Club” while hanging upside inside one of the rooms.
Blige was decked out in silver sparkles & surrounded by backup dancers as she sang a medley of her hits.
An explosion of fireworks lit up the sky as the sun set outside & the show ended, with Snoop & Dre performing “Still DRE.”

A Lawrence man was sentenced today to two decades in prison followed by 10 years of probation in connection with the death of a 13-year-old whose dream, her mother said, was to help cancer patients when she grew up.
Carlos Rivera, 49, pleaded guilty in Salem Superior Court to 19 counts, including aggravated rape of a child, rape, indecent assault & battery & distribution of cocaine to a minor, in the May 20, 2019, death of Chloe Ricard of Amesbury.
Rivera was sentenced to 20-22 years in jail. To date, he has served 991 days. There were 10 young female victims in all, including Chloe.
“The acts of that day will haunt me,” the victim’s mother, Deborah Goldsmith-Dolan, said. “You left her to die.”
And then, beginning to weep, she said: “I want my Chloe … Everywhere I look I see my Chloe … I love you, my baby girl.”
Chloe had been at Rivera’s apartment in May of 2019, police said. Rivera then dropped Chloe at the emergency room of Lawrence General Hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Cocaine & fentanyl were found in her system.
Rivera — called a “monster” in past Herald reports — agreed to the facts of the case Friday, including he recruited at least 10 teenage girls between 12 years old & 16 years old, having them perform sex acts on each other & giving them drugs & clothes in return.

CLIFTON HEIGHTS, Pa. (CBS) — A scene so gruesome and so shocking it’s left even veteran police officers in stunned disbelief. They looked through an apartment window in Clifton Heights and saw a man allegedly dismembering his girlfriend’s body.
For police, it started out as a domestic call but quickly turned out to be something far different. The suspect is in custody, charged with first-degree murder.
The police chief says he’s never seen a crime like this in his three decades in law enforcement.
“This is abhorrent,” Clifton Heights Police Chief Timothy Rockenbach said.
Clifton Heights police allege 32-year-old Nicholas Scurria used a machete to dismember his former girlfriend inside their shared apartment on Springfield Road Friday morning.
"I've been an officer for 32 years, this is absolutely horrible," said Clifton Heights Police Chief Timothy Rockenbach. "I don't even know what words I could describe to you how actually incredibly insane this is, especially in my town."
Police credit the neighbor who called to report the fight. They say the call prevented Scurria from getting away with the crime.
"Domestic violence is a major crime everywhere," said Rockenbach. "Sometimes a neighbor interceding allows us to solve a crime, stop a crime or prevent a crime from happening."
Scurria was arraigned and charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder and abuse of a corpse. He is being held in prison.

Kodak Black, the rapper whose legal name is Bill Kapri, was among 3 people shot and injured early Saturday outside a bar in West Hollywood, California, four law enforcement sources familiar with investigation told NBC News.
The 24-year-old Florida rapper and two other victims, 19 and 60 years old, were transported to a local hospital and are expected to recover from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. One additional victim was hurt in the scuffle.
It not immediately clear what sparked the fight outside the club in the 400 block of N. La Cienega Boulevard. But an LAPD spokesman said the victims were shot when they emerged from the club during the fight.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
According to footage of the shooting obtained by TMZ, Kodak Black was leaving a party at the Nice Guy bar with an entourage and friend and rapper Gunna. In the footage, they paused to pose for photos with fans.
Surrounded by over a dozen paparazzi, a confused fistfight amongst a group of men standing around a red Ferrari in the street spills back onto the sidewalk and is then interrupted by 10 gunshots that send the crowd running for their lives.
Kapri was originally born Dieuson Octave and, the AP reported, had by age 21 amassed an extensive rap sheet. Kapri was sentenced to prison in 2019 for weapons possession and was pardoned in 2021 by former president Donald J. Trump.

Middleweight champion boxer Jermall Charlo was arrested Friday in Texas on a felony charge of assaulting a family/household member after having a previous conviction, according to Fort Bend Jail records.
Charlo, 31, was still in custody on Friday night, a jail official told ESPN. According to records, he was arrested at 1:29 p.m. after a warrant was issued by Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office in Richmond, Texas. He was being held on $10,000 bail.
A Fort Bend County public information officer didn't respond to a voicemail seeking comment. A spokesperson for PBC, which promotes Charlo, declined to comment.
Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs) is ESPN's No. 1-ranked 160-pound boxer. He has made four defenses of the WBC middleweight title and also won a title at 154 pounds.
Canelo Alvarez, ESPN's No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter and boxing's top star, was offered a May 7 fight with Charlo for the undisputed 168-pound championship, but sources told ESPN this week that Alvarez is closing in on a deal to instead fight Dmitry Bivol.
Charlo, whose twin brother, Jermell, is a 154-pound champion, fights out of Richmond, Texas. Jermall Charlo was arrested in August and charged with robbery following an alleged incident at a San Antonio bar. Those three robbery charges were dismissed earlier this month.

Suge Knight's son thinks Snoop Dogg's purchase of Death Row Records is a victory for West Coast rap & says there's no bad blood coming from his old man.
Suge Jacob Knight tells TMZ ... he's happy just like lots of folks in Cali that Snoop is taking over Death Row, because it's time the West Coast starts winning again after losing icons like Nipsey Hussle & Kobe Bryant.
Snoop just became the top dog at Death Row Records, the label that launched his career nearly 3 decades ago.
Snoop bought Death Row from Blackstone investment firm and MNRK Music Group & Jacob tells us he previously pitched execs there on a rebrand & he thinks the Doggfather is the right guy to carry the torch.
While some folks reacted to the purchase by theorizing Suge will be enraged, his son says that's simply not the case. He says everything's kosher between Suge & Snoop, despite the widespread belief the 2 are on the outs.
Jacob says his dad just wants to see Death Row Records endure & believes there's lots of undiscovered talent in L.A. that might get a shot at the label under Snoop's guidance.

A Texas man who had been sleeping with his own sister beat her to death with a baseball bat after he found out she had sex with another man.
Jose Manuel Guzman, 32, allegedly killed his sister in the Canutillo home they shared when he attacked her with a “massage instrument” & a bat.
Guzman allegedly snapped after he learned of his sister being with a male friend who visited a night earlier. He then tried to mop up the blood in the home and fled as he heard law enforcement approaching.
He was later arrested and slapped with a murder charge & is in jail on a $1 million bond.
Prosecutors say Guzman is from Guatemala & a legal US resident, although he is not a US citizen. He has lived in El Paso since he was 3 years old & only recently learned that he had a sister in Guatemala. They met & allegedly began a sexual relationship.
El Paso prosecutors said Guzman was a drug dealer with previous criminal charges, including a 2017 case where he is accused of breaking a man’s arm with a baseball bat & smashing his windows. He also reportedly has previous family violence & drug possession cases.
