San Benito, Texas (CNN) —Raul Rodriguez says he’ll never forget the moment he realized his life was built on a lie.

It all began in April 2018 when federal investigators showed him a Mexican birth certificate with his name on it.

His confirmed what Rodriguez had feared as soon as he saw the paperwork. The US birth certificate he’d used for decades was fraudulent. Rodriguez wasn’t a US citizen. He was an undocumented immigrant.

Rodriguez says he had no idea he’d been born in Mexico before his father’s confession that day, but he knew immediately how serious the situation was. He’d spent nearly 2 decades working for the US government at the border.

He’d helped deport thousands of people while working for US Customs and Border Protection & for the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

He lost his job at CBP, his friends in law enforcement, his sense of self. He hasn’t seen his father since that day in April 2018 & says he never wants to speak with him again.

Rodriguez knew deportation to Mexico would mean leaving his wife, & children & 5 grandchildren behind.

Rodriguez says years of federal background checks never turned up his Mexican birth certificate. It only came to light when Rodriguez filed a visa application for his brother..

The CBP fired him in 2019 because he wasn’t a US citizen & therefore no longer met the requirements to work as an officer.

Rodriguez is no longer working & relies on the disability benefits he receives due to a head injury sustained during his time in the Navy.

In November a judge had said she planned to rule in his favor & grant him cancellation of removal. But the law allows only 4,000 of those cases to be approved each year.

It could be years before he has a document declaring he’s in the country legally & years after that until he’s able to become a US citizen.

He knows this is his best shot for staying in the country; a previous application for citizenship through his wife was rejected.

The Golden State Warriors are planning to play home games without fans for the foreseeable future in observance of the San Francisco Health Office's order prohibiting events of 1,000 people or more from assembling, a source told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Wednesday.

The Warriors host the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday then go on a two-week road trip before starting a four-game homestand March 25.

Video After The Jump

Live TV can be tricky for reporters. A simple slip of the tongue and you can find yourself the butt of jokes from coast to coast. It's even worse when you have two bloopers within seconds of each other.

That's what happened to reporter Blake Burman of Miami/Fort Lauderdale's Channel 7 News yesterday as he was reporting on the presidential election race from camp Obama.

"Not necessarily info, but just kind of giving you a little bit of what you see here. That's Wyclef Jean giving an interview," Blake said as he nodded his head towards will.i.am.

After being corrected by someone off camera who was just as clueless as he was Blake embarrasses himself even further by mistaking will for a different rapper.

"Wale, excuse me... Wale. Got my artists mixed up."

About 30 seconds later Blake finally got it right, but the damage had been done by that point. This video is definitely going viral. Check it out below

Atlanta Journal Constitution Reports Atlanta police on Thursday released surveillance video of at least one suspect in the shooting death of boxing great Vernon Forrest. The video is from security cameras at the Whitehall Street gas station where Forrest was robbed and a nearby apartment complex. “The images are good enough to get a mug shot of the robber,” Detective Lt. Keith Meadows said of footage showing an armed man in jeans and a black T-shirt. Police are looking for three to four men in connection with the Saturday night killing of the 38-year-old boxer. “We believe that the person that robbed Mr. Forrest and the one who actually murdered him is not the same person,” Meadows said. One man robbed Forrest at gunpoint, taking his diamond and gold “4X World Champion” ring and a Rolex watch, police said. Forrest pulled a gun from his waist and went after the robber, police said. A second man shot Forrest multiple times in the back after he chased the robber, police said. And at least one other man was in a red Pontiac Grand Prix that later retrieved the robber and the shooter, police said. “Security footage actually picks up the [robbery] suspect, but Mr. Forrest actually loses sight of the subject,” Meadows said. Investigators used time stamps from video recorded at the 505 Fulton Street apartment building and the Whitehall Street convenience store to compile a timeline of events, Meadows said. Footage from the gas station shows the Pontiac pull into the station, and the man police say was the robber get out. Video from the apartment complex showed the same man enter a breezeway, carrying a silver handgun, just after police said Forrest had given chase. “At that point Mr. Forrest comes around the corner, and he encounters another individual we believe has a gun in his hand,” Meadows said, citing witness accounts. “Mr. Forrest and this individual exchange words, and he realizes this is not the individual that actually robbed him ... Mr. Forrest turns and walks away.”

In this July 26, 2007 file photo, boxer Vernon Forrest smiles as he answers questions during a news conference in Tacoma, Wash. Forrest was robbed and shot "multiple times in the back" in Atlanta. The armed man shot Forrest seven or eight times, police said. The apartment footage later showed the robber waiting in the breezeway and talking on his cell phone before being picked up by the Pontiac. The car then drove south on McDaniel Street, Meadows said.
