(Sporting News) - Manny Pacquiao said Thursday that he will return to the United States next year to defend his WBA (Regular) welterweight title against Adrien Broner. The fight will be Pacquiao's first in the U.S. in more than two years.
Sources told ESPN.com the bout is likely to take place Jan. 19 in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao (60-7-2, 39 KOs) made his announcement in Manila, Philippines, during a meeting of the International Sports Promotion Society, which named him an ambassador.
The 39-year-old Pacquiao has not fought in the States since he defeated Jessie Vargas in 2016 at Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas to capture the WBO welterweight belt. He reportedly owes tens of millions of dollars in federal income taxes even though he made in excess of $150 million for his 2015 bout vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr.
His last fight took place in Malaysia, where scored a seventh-round knockout of Lucas Matthysse in July for his first KO victory in more than eight years.
Broner has a professional record of (33-3-1-1 (DQ), 24 KOs).

Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor 2 may be on the way soon. Money May has expressed an interest in running it back with the Irishman following a proposed boxing match with current UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
"McGregor was talking that shit, so it ain't over," Floyd told TMZ Sports. "After me and Khabib lock up, me and McGregor we gonna lock up again."
Mayweather also offered an explanation as to why he's taking fights with guys who don't traditionally box.
"They say 'why you keep fighting all these MMA guys?' Me and Khabib gonna do crazy numbers. Me and McGregor gonna do crazy numbers," he said. "I only clash with me and guys that can do crazy numbers."
Of course, Conor and Floyd clashed back in August 2017 -- with Floyd dominating most of the fight and ultimately getting a TKO in the 10th round.

(Yahoo Sports) - Canelo Alvarez’s next 11 fights will be available to watch on DAZN. The 28-year-old finalized his deal with the streaming service Wednesday, and it sounds like he’s going to make a ton of money in the process.
How much? Well, if the reported figures are to be believed, Alvarez just signed the biggest contract in the history of sports. While the official figure hasn’t been released just yet, outlets are reporting the deal is worth at least $365 million.
Alvarez’s rumored deal with DAZN was first reported by Yahoo Sports’ Kevin Iole. It will begin as early as December. His fight with Rocky Fielding on Dec. 15 is slated to stream on the service.
Alvarez was looking for a fight deal after HBO announced it would stop broadcasting boxing before the end of the year. DAZN — pronounced Da Zone — has been a popular destination for the sport. The service currently charges $9.99 per month for subscribers.

Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather has accepted UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov's challenge to fight.
"We're fighting," Mayweather told TMZ Sports. "I'm my own boss. I can't say what's going on on Khabib's end, but on my end we can make it happen."
Money May added that the fight would definitely take place in a boxing ring.
"Who's the 'A-side?' He called me out so you have to come to my world," Mayweather said. "I seen in an interview, he said when he hit Conor McGregor, he knocked Conor McGregor down. He said I didn't knock Conor McGregor down. OK, Khabib. You got my leftovers. Whoop-dee-do."
According to Mayweather, 41, a fight against Nurmagomedov, 30, would produce a higher paycheck than the one he received to box McGregor last year. Mayweather won that fight by TKO in the 10th round.
"When I face Khabib, I'm getting a nine-figure payday," Mayweather said. "Yes, more than the McGregor fight. Probably $100 million more, guaranteed. It could be somewhere upwards of $110 to $200 million guaranteed."
Both fighters are undefeated.
Nurmagomedov is 27-0 in MMA. Mayweather sports a boxing record of 50-0.

Ever since Pusha T dissed Drake in the song "The Story of Adidon" and revealed that Drizzy had a son, there's been speculation as to where he got the information.
Some assumed it came from Kanye West, but in a new interview on the Joe Budden Podcast, Push revealed the news actually came from Drake's good friend Noah "40" Shebib.
"The information came from 40," the G.O.O.D. Music president said in reference to Drake implying that Kanye West was the source. "It didn’t come from Kanye, at all. 40 is sleeping with a woman, who begins to . . . he talks to her daily. Five, six hours a day . . . And ultimately speaks about how he's disgruntled about certain things, notoriety and things involving Drake and his career, and so on and so forth. With that also came the fact that Drake has a child. With that also came the trip that everybody took to go see the child, and bring him gifts, and all this information. She divulged this information. That's where it came from."
Well damn!
