ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A New Mexico man is facing charges after police say he became enraged he didn’t qualify for a COVID-19-related stimulus check and tried to set his wife on fire.
The Albuquerque Journal reports Joe Macias was arrested Wednesday shortly following an argument with his disabled wife, where he allegedly doused her with gasoline.
The wife told police Macias had come home around 5 p.m. with a four-pack of beer and “upset because he did not qualify for the stimulus check.”
According to police, the 63-year-old Macias threw gas on his wife and their mobile home.
The wife told officers Macias then pulled out a cigarette and attempted to light it several times, but was unsuccessful due to the lighter getting gasoline on it.
Police say officers later found Macias walking down the street, his clothes soaked in gasoline. Officers also discovered the victim, her hair and pajamas soaked in gasoline on the floor inside a nearby trailer.
Macias charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, and aggravated battery against a household member.
No attorney was listed for him in online court records.

Rappers Jay-Z and Meek Mill are helping protect inmates and prison staff from coronavirus with the generous donation of 100,000 surgical masks.
The pair, through their Reform Alliance organization, were able to procure the highly sought out supply to put in the hands of some of the most vulnerable during the pandemic. Masks will be distributed to the Tennessee Department of Corrections with an allotment for the state, the Mississippi State Penitentiary, with the bulk going to New York's Riker's Island Correctional and their medical facility as one of the country's largest prisons.

Over the course of two hours, we get an insightful and exclusive discussion highlighting the life and career of a man who helped shape the course of music history. MTV Raps co-host Andre "Doctor Dre" Brown's huge contribution to hip-hop, and PE's signature sound. Chuck also speaks to the current generation, giving advice on use of their smartphones.
Later in the episode, Chuck reflects on the producing the demo 'Public Enemy No.1' by using two tape decks, which were called 'pause tapes' back in day, by those who didn't have access to a sampler. He touches on the struggles of getting radio play, even during the height of PE's popularity, the origins of his 'louder than a bomb' rapping style being inherited from his father, his mother forcing him to take part in plays that she put on at the local theater, and the process of coming up with the impactful titles of PE's records. Chuck finishes with a story about his experiences with Tupac Shakur, who he states was like a little brother to him, and talks about how he felt mentoring young emcees like Pac, Ice Cube, and Treach was like a calling. Floyd Mayweather's daughter, Iyanna, has been arrested for felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, TMZ has learned, and it appears to have been a confrontation over NBA Youngboy.
Iyanna Mayweather is currently in Houston's Harris County jail after getting arrested at 1:30 AM Saturday. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ, the alleged victim and NBA Youngboy were at his home when Iyanna arrived and told the woman, Lapattra Lashai Jacobs, she was Youngboy's fiancee and Jacobs should leave the house. Jacobs then told Iyanna to leave.
We're told the argument moved into the kitchen, where Iyanna was holding 2 knives. According to our sources, Jacobs stepped toward Iyanna and Iyanna charged at her with one of the knives. Jacobs told cops she didn't feel the first knife wound but then she said Iyanna charged at her with the second knife, stabbing her again.
When EMTs arrived, Jacobs was laying on the floor. She was taken to the hospital. We do not know her condition.
Youngboy, who was home at the time, was briefly handcuffed by cops -- presumably as a precautionary measure -- before being released.
Iyanna told cops Jacobs had incited her by initially pulling her hair outside the house and then running into the kitchen, where the confrontation went down.
Iyanna told cops she had never met Jacobs before.

LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) — No one stands in line to embrace the widow and share memories of her husband of 50 years. No rows of family and friends file toward the flag-draped coffin to pay their last respects. No symphony of sniffles is heard across the room as the minister gives a final prayer.
Instead, a handful of people are scattered across one chapel row as if they’re strangers, not blood. White roses are pinned to empty chairs, representing those who couldn’t be there. An iPad on a tripod livestreams the service for people stuck at home across state lines.
“This is going to be a different experience for all of us,” the minister tells the half-dozen people gathered at a South Carolina funeral home to celebrate the life of J. Robert Coleman, an Army veteran, husband to Gloria, father to three sons and grandfather to three children. “But one thing that will be common is that as we conduct this service today, we’re going to open with a prayer.”
Unspoken was the reason this funeral, and untold others across the world, is different: The coronavirus outbreak, stay-at-home orders and the rules of social distancing are dramatically altering the way families and communities mourn the passing of loved ones.
“It’s hard enough to lose a loved one, but then to have the traditions that usually bring comfort at a time like this seemingly not available just kind of compounds the grief that families feel,” said Justin Baxley, of Woodridge Memorial Park & Funeral Home.
Like most funeral homes, Woodridge is limiting the number of people allowed for services. Many families find it hard to choose which loved ones will be invited to the in-person gathering and which will be relegated to watch via livestream, if at all.
