HOUSTON (Fox26) - The Drug Enforcement Administration is calling Fentanyl, "the deadliest drug threat facing the country." It’s such a growing problem in Houston as Fentanyl seized by the DEA doubled this year.
The amount of Fentanyl found & confiscated by the DEA in Houston in 2022 alone, is alarming. It was actually enough to kill every person in Houston, Harris County, and the entire metropolitan area.
"Overdoses as you know, as per the CDC, have skyrocketed," explains Deputy Special Agent in Charge Tracey Mendez.
Because so many people are dying from Fentanyl, the DEA is cracking down on dealers. This year, federal agents have taken 7.8 million deadly doses of Fentanyl-laced pills & powder off of Houston streets.
"Talk to your kids. It’s never too early to have that talk," adds Houston dad David McGuffin.
The highly addictive man-made opioid, which is 50 times more potent than heroin, caused McGuffin’s son Will to overdose 3 times.
"In November 2020, which was the second time, he spent 18 days in the hospital, was on a ventilator & then pulled through," says McGuffi. But then last year his son died of Fentanyl poisoning.
Most who buy it believe they are taking a prescription pill such as Oxycontin, Percocet, or Xanax. The fakes look like the real thing, & are mostly made in Mexico by 2 specific drug cartels.
"They don’t care if people are dying from this," says Mendez.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — “Avengers” star Jeremy Renner is being treated for serious injuries that happened while he was plowing snow, the actor’s representative said Sunday.
Renner, 51, is in critical condition although he is stable, the actor’s representative said. No further details on the extent of Renner’s injuries were available.
The actor has a home in Nevada, but it is unclear where he was hurt. Renner plays Hawkeye, a sharp-shooting member of the superhero Avengers squad in Marvel’s sprawling movie and television universe.
He is a two-time acting Oscar nominee, scoring back-to-back nods for “The Hurt Locker” and “The Town.” Renner’s portrayal of a bomb disposal specialist in Iraq in 2008′s “The Hurt Locker” helped turn him into a household name.
“The Avengers” in 2012 cemented him as part of Marvel’s grand storytelling ambitions, with his character appearing in several sequels and getting its own Disney+ series, “Hawkeye.”

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Memphis rapper Lola Mitchell, better known as Gangsta Boo, died at the age of 43 after she was found unresponsive at a home in Memphis.
She was best known as one of the members in Three 6 Mafia as the group put out multiple albums through the 1990s & early 2000s.
Fellow Three 6 Mafia member DJ Paul posted a tribute to her on his Instagram.
The circumstances around her death are unknown.
Fellow Memphis rapper Mr. Del spoke about his friend’s death.
He says she lived in LA now, but kept extending her stay in Memphis because there was so many people she wanted to see.
He notes that she was working on a new album that was going to be called The Boo-Print.
“It’s just a major loss, major loss for us, a major loss for Memphis, for hip-hop,” he said.
Police have not yet confirmed her death, but MPD say 2:18 pm, officers responded to responded to a man down call in the 1600 block of Raines Road. A woman was pronounced dead there at the scene.
Sources close the family says this call involved the rapper.
The Memphis rapper leaves behind a lasting legacy, performing with music legend such as T.I., OutKast, Gucci Mane & many others.

BALTIMORE — (WBALTV) A young boy died after he was shot in the head Friday evening in west Baltimore, Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said.
City police said officers were called around 5:06 p.m. to the 2100 block of Presbury Street, where they found a 7-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound.
Officers immediately rendered aid & the boy was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he died, Harrison said. Homicide detectives are now investigating.
"We don't have many details, but we have this unfortunate, very tragic incident with yet another child losing a life in Baltimore City," Harrison said.
"There are no words to describe what this family and community are going through. A very, very young child lost their life today," Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said.
Harrison said officers took an 18-year-old man into custody & there's an emergency petition for a psychiatric evaluation underway.
Police did not say whether the 7-year-old boy & the 18-year-old man are related. They also did not say who the gun belonged to.
No further information was immediately released.

A rapper from Silver Spring is behind bars in South Florida after being accused of human trafficking.
Investigators say Monriko Clements aka K. Swuice met a 23-year-old woman online and brought her to Florida to sell her body, so he could keep the money.
The alleged victim met Clements on social media. Soon after, he started advertising her services and setting up dates.
Police say the woman threw herself from a moving vehicle to get away from Clements.
He faces one count of human trafficking and one count of deriving support from proceeds of prostitution.

MEXICO CITY, Dec 30 (Reuters) - Four human skulls were discovered inside a package at a Mexican airport that was due to be sent by courier to the United States, local authorities said on Friday.
The skulls were found wrapped in aluminum foil inside a cardboard box at Queretaro Intercontinental Airport in central Mexico, a statement from the National Guard said.
The package had been sent from the western coastal state of Michoacan - one of the most violent parts of the country - and was destined for an address in Manning, South Carolina, it said.
The National Guard gave no further details on the age, identity or possible motive for the sending of the human remains.
The transfer of human remains requires a special permit from a competent health authority which was not obtained, it said.

El Camello is in a U.S. Federal prison today, perhaps for life, perhaps not, as he, like most high level Narcos, testified against others as part of his guilty plea. Chávez added that he controlled a group of hit squads that were responsible for killing more than 2,000 people in Juárez in a war between the Vicente Carillo Fuentes and Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán's Sinaloa Cartel. What's disturbing to know, with possible ramifications for the immediate future of America, is that El Camello was an El Paso, Texas gang member, not some crazed killer from a third world country, and he had already served a five year prison term in Louisiana for smuggling years ago. His gang is known as Barrio Azteca, formed in the Texas prison system in 1986 for guys that fell out of El Paso- and the Barrio Azteca, just like the Logan Heights gangs from San Diego did for the Arellano Felix brothers in Tijuana- became part of the the Juarez Sicario system. In San Diego-Tijuana- the American guys were probably responsible for executing a Catholic Cardinal. Let that sink in. Unlike in the days of Colombians being the narco powerhouse, with Mexico sharing a common border, and increasingly common culture in the Southwest, many of the low paid and bloodthirsty young sicarios are born and raised in the U.S.A. Vlad then stated that he doesn’t think anyone involved will 100% know what happened because they were drunk. When it comes to Tory’s bodyguard not being called to the stand in the trial, despite being present the night of the incident, TK believes that he was a “bad witness.” Vlad then addressed how appeals work and how it’s hard to get verdicts overturned like in Bill Cosby’s case.
