Last week we reported that Lil Yachty told Billboard that he "honestly couldn't name five songs" by hip hop legends The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur.

A lot of hip hop fans found it unfathomable that a rapper would know so little about two of the best emcees to ever pic up a mic.

While others chalked it up to Lil Boat being 19-years old and the fact that he wasn't even alive when 2Pac and Biggie were murdered.

12352324080?profile=original

On Saturday, August 27, fellow 2016 XXL Freshman Anderson .Paak, 30, seemed to address the situation via his Twitter account, although he doesn't mention Yachty by name.

"Don't be cocky in the fact that you don't know anything about hip hop history," he wrote. "Real artists are students of the game first."

Video After The Jump

Social media has drastically changed how beefs between rappers are handled. You see artists throwing shots at counterparts on Twitter and Instagram, then before you know it, everything mysteriously gets squashed behind the scenes.

Things were much different in the 90's when Redman got into the business. As he explains in a new interview with DJ Vlad, when a rapper heard he was dissed back then he/she and their crew would show up at a rival's concert and things would often get physical.

12352320466?profile=original

Oakland rapper MC Hammer was known at the time for making party records and dancing, but according to Red, he was one guy you didn't wan't any problems with.

"Look, that got damn MC Hammer ... very serious about beef," Red told Vlad. "Y'all motherfuckers laugh and y'all joke about Hammer. No, No, No No! That nigga was deep with niggas. And he used to what anybody who talked shit. Come to the Bay Area, they was in for it. 'Cause we seen it. I seen it. He was very serious about beef. 'Oh, you gon' talk about my dancing pants? I'll see you.' And he would whip a nigga out."

12352320699?profile=original

Red recalled Hammer personally stepping to him at the taping of the last Yo! MTV Raps episode over dissing his mom on his debut project, "Whut? Thee Album."

"That nigga came up to me [at the taping]. He was like, 'Red, I'ma tell you something, you young. But I don't allow nobody to talk about my mama, you understand me?' I said 'Yes sir.' Because we was already in Oakland [prior] with EPMD. And we damn near had to bounce up outta there for that. 'Cause they had niggas [gesturing in different directions] back here, back here, back here. We had to get the fuck up outta here. They wasn't playing. We was almost boxed in. I'm like, 'Yo, this nigga is not playing"

Add Colin Kaepernick's name to a growing list of pro athletes protesting against what they believe are injustices being committed against people of color by rogue police officers in the United States.

12352318658?profile=original

The San Francisco 49ers quarterback refused to stand during the national anthem before his team's preseason game against the Green Bay Packers on Friday, August 26.

"I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color," Kaepernick told NFL.com's Steve Wyche after the game. "To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder. This is not something that I am going to run by anybody. I am not looking for approval. I have to stand up for people that are oppressed. ... If they take football away, my endorsements from me, I know that I stood up for what is right."

12352318897?profile=original

The 49ers issued a statement Friday night: “The national anthem is and always will be a special part of the pre-game ceremony. It is an opportunity to honor our country and reflect on the great liberties we are afforded as its citizens. In respecting such American principles as freedom of religion and freedom of expression, we recognize the right of an individual to choose and participate, or not, in our celebration of the national anthem."

The NFL also released a statement: "Players are encouraged but not required to stand during the playing of the national anthem."

12352319673?profile=original

Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul and LeBron James spoke out against racial profiling and said this country's "broken system" needed to be fixed, last month during a speech at the ESPYs

They pledged to use their resources to help urban communities.

What are your thoughts on professional athletes using their notoriety to help bring about social change?

Audio After The Jump

Drake and Meek Mill have primarily been involved in a one-on-one beef for months now. No other major figures in their respective camps has thrown their hat in the ring. That may be changing soon.

During a recent appearance on N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN's "Drink Champs" podcast, Rick Ross, said he was willing to get his hands dirty on behalf of his MMG artist Meek.

"For my dawg, it's whatever ... if it's gon' be, whatever," Ross said. "If it's gotta go there, Renzel gon' jump off the porch on your ass."

12351866294?profile=original

The 40-year old Florida rapper, born William Roberts, added that he doesn't believe Meek is losing the battle. And even took a backhanded swipe at Birdman and Cash Money Records, by insinuating Drake isn't getting paid.

"We all rich niggas. I know what Meek Mill getting. Everybody don't know what [Cash Money's] business like. I don't know what's really touching the bank account."

This isn't the first time Ross has thrown shots at Birdman.

As we reported at the time, he chided Baby during a December 2015 interview with The Breakfast Club for the way Lil Wayne's contract was being handled.

12352316493?profile=original

Ross mentioned that interview during his conversation on "The Drink Champs.".

"You either be G enough, whatever the situation is. Niggas bring it to the table or you just let it go out of control and see what happens," he told N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN. "I always been one of them niggas. When I first spoke on it on The Breakfast Club I was obviously speaking in a peaceful tone. That’s my way of [saying] ‘Y’all niggas need to tighten up so niggas can get it right.' Because if you assuming that I respect whoever your big homies is, you wrong."

Tay Evans has quite a story to tell.

Born and raised in Upstate New York, Tay was destined for a life in music. From an early age, Tay’s musical literacy was well-defined and curated by his parents, whose collection included everything from Stevie Wonder to Pink Floyd. The eclectic nature of his upbringing helped shape Tay’s appreciation for music as a whole, and would later become apparent in his work.

It didn’t take long for Tay to discover hip hop. In fact, he fell in love with it in elementary school, and he immediately became a student of the game. With a steady diet of lyricist like Nas, KRS-ONE, Blackstar, Kool G. Rap, along with the producers such as DJ Premier, J Dilla, and Pete Rock, Tay was inspired, primed, and ready to become an artist in his own right. From the moment he put pen to paper, Tay was telling his story.

The home recording revolution of the early 2000s allowed a new generation of musicians to create beyond their wildest dreams. This is especially true for Tay; upon discovering DAW software, he worked tirelessly to see his vision through from the written page to the finished product. Not only a highly skilled lyricist, Tay’s instincts for production became evident, as he began making beats in addition to his exercising his vocal talents. At such a young age, Tay prodigiously polished off tracks in great quantity and quality. He had become the total package.

But Tay’s journey did not come without roadblocks. At the age of 15, he was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, and began using drugs and alcohol to cope. Tay’s family soon after relocated to South Carolina, where his addiction got progressively worse. He spent the majority of his adolescence and early adulthood in jails, rehabs, and psychiatric hospitals.

After years of struggle and turmoil, Tay’s life almost ended due to Crohn’s-related symptoms, and he underwent two back-to-back emergency surgeries. Fortunately, a spiritual awakening allowed Tay to recover. With a mended mind, body, and soul, he now lives sober one day at a time, and devotes his life to sobriety, family, hard work, and music.

Through it all, music was the outlet for the physical, mental, and emotional pain that Tay endured.

Tay’s music, at its core, is autobiographical. With each track, you’re experiencing an entry into journal of a person who has withstood all obstacles, coming so close to defeat and yet holding on and pushing through. Tay’s compelling, razor-sharp lines oscillate between personal narratives and social commentaries. His cadence and approach are confident and incendiary. There are no gimmicks, no trends, and no desire to adapt to what is deemed commercially viable. For Tay Evans, music is life, and vice versa. With every twist and turn, Tay continues to tell his story.
