19-year old Georgia rapper and2016 XXL Freshman, Lil Yachty, has amassed a strong fan base from his"Lil Boat"and "Summer Songs 2" mixtapes.
He prides himself on doing things his way, but part of what makes artists in any genre of music successful is studying the greats that came before them. Not to copy their style, but to have a better understanding of what it takes to create a lasting persona.
That's why it's surprising that during a new interview with Billboard, Yachty, admitted that he "honestly couldn't name five songs" by hip hop legends The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur.
"But if I'm doing this my way and making all this money," he reasoned, "why should I do it how everybody says it's supposed to be done?"

50 Cent recently stopped by Big Boy TV to chop it up about a variety of subjects.
He talks about his infamous sex scene on "Power," being team Tommy vs team Ghost, the Black Mafia Family project, his recent conversation with The Game, believing Jimmy Henchman was behind their beef, not seeing any way that Donald Trump should be president, Amber Rose saying she was offered a part on "Power" and more.
Chicago's own King Louie a.k.a. King L is back with fresh new visuals for his song titled "Gateway." This is from his upcoming "Tony 2" project, coming soon. Video directed & edited by Brooklyn Wheeler. Song produced by Jack Flash.
Chicago rapper Fredo Santana doesn't really have to talk about his street credibility because it's a well known fact that he doesn't play around. But just in case there's anyone that is unaware, he reminds them on this Southside of 808 Mafia-produced track titled "Persona."
(Billboard) 50 Cent leads THR’s Top TV Songs chart for July with his song “I’m The Man,” featuring Sonny Digital, thanks to HBO’s Ballers.
Rankings for the Top TV Songs chart are based on cumulative monthly Shazam tags, as well as sales and streaming information tracked by Nielsen Music during the same period.
“I’m the Man,” which was featured in the Ballers’ second season premiere episode on July 17, sits atop the chart with 109,000 Shazam tags, as well as 13.8 million U.S. streams and 20,000 downloads in July, according to Nielsen Music. Of those downloads, 6,000 occurred in the first tracking week after the episode aired (week ending July 21), marking a 280 percent gain from the previous week, where it sold 2,000.
But that’s not all. Additionally, a remix of “I’m the Man” featuring Chris Brown, debuts at No. 2 on the Top TV Songs chart after its appearance in the Starz series Power, snagging 25,000 additional Shazam tags for itself.
Of the remaining eight songs in the top 10, five tracks were featured in season one of the Netflix sci-fi drama Stranger Things, which premiered on Netflix July 15. The series is set in 1983, so many of the tracks — “Africa” by Toto, “Should I Stay or Should I Go” by The Clash, “Atmosphere” by Joy Division among them — were released in the ‘80s. A notable exception, “Heroes” by Peter Gabriel, was released in 2010, though the original recording by David Bowie debuted in 1977.
“Africa” lands at No. 3 on Top TV Songs with 46,000 Shazam tags, 5.1 million U.S. streams and 13,000 downloads in July. The track was streamed 1 million times in the tracking week after Netflix premiered the show (week ending July 21), marking a 10 percent gain from the previous week, where it was streamed about 900,000 times.
“Should I Stay or Should I Go,” a recurring track throughout Stranger Things, finishes at No. 6 with 37,000 Shazam tags, 1.6 million U.S. streams and 4,000 downloads.

Miss Chiff and Sex The Rapper take new single “Movin’ Up” to a new level with the release of their music video. Modeling the scene of a ceremony for a secret society, the video kicks off with Miss Chiff surrounded by women, covered in cloaks, face masks, in formation. Ready to take on any encounter, Miss Chiff makes it known she’s queen and isn’t stopping. Sex the Rapper appears in the scene to back up Miss Chiff’s reign leading the men in the ceremony. “Movin’ Up” speaks as a metaphor of transition, the upper echelon and exceeding the expectation of others.
The mysterious setting and lighting adds to the mood of the video making scenes more dramatic and cinematic. With the many visuals to come, the video is setting the bar for Miss Chiff’s upcoming album “Alpha,” showing the industry she is a force to be reckoned with.

17 of the 42 people injured when railing collapsed during a Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa concert earlier this month in Camden, New Jersey have filed a lawsuit against the rappers.
According to the Associated Press, the suit was filed Wednesday, August 24, in Philadelphia.
14 of the plaintiffs are concert goers. Three are employees of the venue, BB&T Pavilion, including one who suffered a fractured spine.
Aswe previously reported, the incident occurred on August 5, when the crowd surged forward during a part of the show..
When the railing collapsed fans fell about 10 feet onto a concrete pathway below.
"I can tell you there is no doubt there was a crowd surge based upon the setup of the lawn with no chairs and no aisles, lack of security ... and then the artists telling people to come forward," the plaintiffs' attorney, Robert J. Mongeluzzi, told the Associated Press. "That's the setup, and that's the failure."
