ATLANTA (WGCL) -- A romantic getaway for a young couple took a violent, almost deadly turn in broad daylight Friday.
“I was sleeping it was so early I just heard like 5 shots and that’s what woke me that was my alarm clock,” said Leshon Jones a tenant in a nearby apartment complex.
“I didn’t want to peek my head through the window and then they still shooting and then I got shot,” Jones goes on to say.
Meairra Mansara and her boyfriend were riding scooters down Northside Drive when they were attacked, after telling a man driving by to stop cat calling at the victim.
Boyfriend Juwan Davis stepping in asked the man to leave them alone.
Both Mansara and Davis rode down the street in an attempt to get away when bullets started to fly.
One of the bullets hit Mansara in her shin, shattering her tibia.
“From the distance I see someone go down…” Eyewitness Samuel Savage went running when he saw Mansara fall to the ground.
“It was really heartbreaking she was screaming she was crying, and she kept grabbing her phone to call her mom,” said Savage.
The fire department worked to stop the bleeding until EMS got to the scene.
Neighbors said hey believe violence is never the answer and rejection is not an excuse.
“It’s definitely a cowardly act to try and shoot somebody just because they don’t want to talk to you,” exclaims Jones.
“Take your licks and just go on there to someone else…don’t take it out on someone who rejected you,” said Savage.”
According to the victim’s mother, she will now have a permanent rod in her leg and is looking at at least six weeks of recovery until rehab therapy.

Suso FW, the man with the golden voice, the "Lonesome" superstar, started making music when he was 12. He is an example for every young musician who wants to make it big in the music industry. Suso FW's hard work, dedication, passion, and patience towards music paid off big time when a producer agreed to record his song, "Lonesome." It was a dream-come-true moment for him. He said, "It feels like I'm living my dream and don't want to open my eyes. I never imagined that this day would come because it was beginning to get frustrating at one point. When people reject you so many times, you sometimes doubt your abilities. But I'm fortunate that I didn't give up. And I'll continue to keep working hard and make good music for my fans." Living a humble life Stardom often makes celebrities lead extravagant lives. But Suso FW doesn't want to become one of those celebrities. He is a grounded guy who loves to enjoy the simplest things in life. A big part of still leading a humble lifestyle comes from his upbringing. His parents never taught him to ill-treat others or make improper use of money. They were not rich like the parents of other kids in Suso FW's school. But they always taught Suso FW to remain grounded no matter what happens. Apart from good parenting, Suso FW received massive support from his parents when he struggled to become a musician. His teenage life involved tons of rejections. He was making good music but wasn't getting the right opportunity. His father once said, "Mahdi is a good musician. I know it in my heart. He often plays his tracks in his room, and we can overhear them. I don't know why producers kept rejecting his music. Sure, I'm no expert, but I like his tracks. And I'm not saying this because I'm his father. I genuinely love the music that he creates. It is sad to see him coming back without a contract, but I think he will continue working hard. He is not the type to give us so quickly." Finding success It took Suso FW seven years to get his first big break. JP Soundz and Lone Wolf decided to produce his song, and it was a massive hit. Hundreds of comments flooded his YouTube channel. People started following him on Instagram and Snapchat. His YouTube subscriber list jumped to nearly 2,000 within a few months. It's the type of success that Suso FW had always imagined but couldn’t achieve because of roadblocks that came his way. But seven years of struggle seemed worth every second after his song topped the charts. The superstar said, "I don't want this dream to end. If I could just close my eyes and freeze these moments, I would be able to live with them forever. I never imagined that people would like my songs globally. It's a special experience for me." Suso FW plans to keep making music and starring in his music videos. It's what keeps him and his fans happy.

Longtime NFL defensive end Aldon Smith returned to the league last year for the Dallas Cowboys after being reinstated following four years out of the league. Last year provided cause for encouragement; Smith played and started in a full 16 games for Dallas, finishing with 5.0 sacks on the year.
Following that season, Smith signed with the Seattle Seahawks, who officially announced the acquisition on April 15.

Scottie Pippen has revealed his oldest son Antron Pippen passed away on Sunday. He was only 33.
"I'm heartbroken to share that yesterday, I said goodbye to my firstborn son Antron. The two of us shared a love for basketball and we had countless conversations about the game."
Scottie continued, "Antron suffered from chronic asthma and if he hadn’t had it, I truly believe he would've made it to the NBA. He never let that get him down, though -- Antron stayed positive and worked hard, and I am so proud of the man that he became."
Antron was born in 1987 to Karen McCollum -- who married Scottie in 1988 (they split in 1990).
Antron was a pretty solid basketball player who reportedly spent time hoopin' at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU). Clearly, Scottie believed he had real potential, if not for his medical condition.
Scottie did not reveal Antron's cause of death. However, he's asking fans to pray for his family.
"Please keep his mom, Karen, and all of his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. A kind heart and beautiful soul gone way too soon. I love you, son, rest easy until we meet again."
Antron also spent time playin ball at South Georgia Technical College -- and moments ago, the school paid tribute to their former player.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A former sheriff’s deputy in Texas has been taken into custody Monday following a manhunt that began after 3 people were fatally shot in Austin.
Police said Stephen Broderick, 41, was arrested without incident about 7:30 a.m. along a rural road in Manor, an Austin suburb, Manor Police Chief Ryan Phipps said. He had a pistol in his waistband, Phipps said.
Police had received 2 phone calls about a suspicious person matching Broderick’s description, Phipps said.
Interim Austin Police Chief Joseph Chacon said Broderick was suspected in Sunday’s deaths of 2 women & 1 man, all of whom Broderick knew.
Police initially told Austin residents who lived nearby to shelter in place, but they lifted that request later Sunday when they said it was unclear whether Broderick was still in the city.
Chacon said that Broderick was a former deputy with the Travis County sheriff’s office, which is based in Austin.
Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza said in a statement that Broderick had been arrested for sexual assault of a child last June & was released on $50,000 bond. He said that the district attorney’s office on Sunday filed a motion to revoke that bond.
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Kristen Dark told the Austin American-Statesman that Broderick, a property crimes detective, resigned after the arrest.
The newspaper also reports that Broderick’s wife filed for a protective order and divorce shortly after his arrest.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The former employee who shot & killed 8 people at a FedEx facility in Indianapolis legally purchased the 2 assault rifles used in the attack despite red flag laws designed to prevent that, police said.
A trace of the 2 guns found by investigators at the scene revealed that suspect Brandon Scott Hole, 19, of Indianapolis, legally bought the rifles in July & September of last year.
IMPD did not share where Hole bought the guns, citing the ongoing investigation, but said Hole was witnessed using both rifles during the assault.
Deputy Police Chief Craig McCartt said Hole began firing randomly at people in the parking lot of the FedEx facility late Thursday, killing 4, before entering the building, fatally shooting 4 more people and then turning the gun on himself.
Paul Keenan, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Indianapolis field office, has said that agents questioned Hole last year after his mother called police to say that her son might commit “suicide by cop.” He said the FBI was called after items were found in Hole’s bedroom but he did not elaborate on what they were. He said agents found no evidence of a crime & that they did not identify Hole as espousing a racially motivated ideology.
A police report shows that officers seized a pump-action shotgun from Hole’s home after responding to the mother’s call. Keenan said the gun was never returned.
Indiana has had a “red flag law” allowing police or courts to seize guns from people who show warning signs of violence since 2005, when it became one of the first states to enact such a law after an Indianapolis police officer was killed by a man whose weapons had to be returned despite hospitalization months earlier for an emergency mental health evaluation.
The law is intended to prevent people from purchasing or possessing a firearm if they are found by a judge to present “an imminent risk” to themselves or others.
McCartt said Hole was a former employee of FedEx & last worked for the company in 2020. The deputy police chief said he did not know why Hole left the job or if he had ties to the workers in the facility. He said police have not yet uncovered a motive for the shooting.
