Two Louisiana parents could be charged with murder after their disabled daughter was found "melted" into a couch.
The body of 36-year-old Lacey Fletcher was discovered at her home in the tiny quiet town of Slaughter back on January 3, in what can only be described as abhorrent circumstances.
Coroner Dr. Ewell Bickham estimated that the woman had been sat in the same place for years — to the point she had literally become fused to the furniture.
"I couldn't eat for a week & I cried for a week," Dr. Bickham said.
“When I first walked in the house, it smelled of feces, fecal material, however you want to put that politely, it stunk," he recalled. "And when I got to the body, the individual was basically sitting in a hole, filled with liquid stool & urine."
The victim, he said, was covered from head to toe in urine & liquid feces, with bed sores that went down to the bone & was crawling with insects. She weighed just 96lbs.
Fletcher reportedly suffered from locked-in syndrome, unable to move any muscles besides her eyes. Her parents were supposed to be her caretakers.
Bickham claimed she had been left to use the couch as a latrine, and she had eventually melted through the upholstery of the 1960′s-style sofa.
"It's the worst form of medical neglect I've ever seen. I don't know any other adjectives or adverbs to add to that," Bickham said, claiming she had been neglected for at least a decade.
"I've never seen anything like this, that literally turned my stomach as bad as it did," the coroner said. "It literally got me emotional, and I'm a strong person."
Her parents called 911 on January 3 when they noticed she'd stopped breathing; first responders entered the otherwise idyllic home to find the nightmarish scene:
After an autopsy, Jefferson Parish Forensic Center ruled the death a homicide.
Fletcher's parents have not been arrested or charged with any crime. But District Attorney Sam D'Aquilla has called on the grand jury to consider second-degree murder.
Other potential charges include manslaughter, cruelty to the infirmed, negligent homicide — or none at all.

RACINE, Wis. (WISN) — A manhunt is underway for the suspect police say killed a 30-year-old mother of six in Racine.
Police found Brittany Booker's body Sunday morning in her vehicle near.
"This is not fair. This is not fair to her," said Brittany's cousin Shameeka Boykin. "No one is doing good right now."
Investigators said one of Booker's friends was involved in an abusive relationship.
They said in February when Booker helped her friend, the friend's boyfriend attacked her with a hammer.
That time, Booker survived.
Two months later, police said that same man came back & killed her.
The suspect has been identified by police as 42-year-old Terry L. Jackson.
"She didn't deserve it. He didn't have to do her like that. She didn't deserve it," said Faith Spencer, Booker's cousin.
"One thing that I'm going to miss is her telling her telling me that she loved me," said another cousin, Kayla Nelson.
"I don't really know what to say. I miss my cousin like crazy. That was my favorite cousin," said Brianna Harris.
Booker's youngest child was 2 years old.
Jackson is considered armed & dangerous.

(CNN) An American citizen, Willy Joseph Cancel, was killed fighting alongside Ukrainian forces in Ukraine, members of Cancel's family confirmed to CNN.
The 22-year-old was working with a private military contracting company when he was killed on Monday. The company had sent him to Ukraine, and he was being paid while he was fighting there, Cancel's mother, Rebecca Cabrera, told CNN.
Cancel, a former US Marine, according to his mother, signed up to work for the private military contracting company on top of his full-time job as a corrections officer in Tennessee shortly before the war in Ukraine broke out at the end of February, Cabrera said. When the war began, the company, according to Cabrera, was searching for contractors to fight in Ukraine and Cancel agreed to go, Cabrera said.
"He wanted to go over because he believed in what Ukraine was fighting for, and he wanted to be a part of it to contain it there so it didn't come here, and that maybe our American soldiers wouldn't have to be involved in it," Cabrera told CNN in a phone interview.
Cancel flew to Poland on March 12 and crossed into Ukraine sometime over March 12 and 13, Cabrera said.
The group of men Cancel was fighting alongside were from "all different countries," Cabrera said.
Cabrera was told by those who notified her of her son's death that his body had not been found.
"They haven't found his body," she said. "They are trying, the men that were with him, but it was either grab his body or get killed, but we would love for him to come back to us."
A State Department official said they are "aware of these reports and are closely monitoring the situation."

POLK COUNTY, Fla. (ClickOrlando) – A volunteer with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office was arrested for selling his monthly prescription of Oxycodone pills from a marked vehicle, the sheriff said.
The sheriff’s office said David Roberts, 69, was arrested after deputies received a tip he was selling pills & carrying “large amounts of cash.”
“He sells them. He sells them for $10 each. Well, we infiltrate him with an undercover detective & we find out that he’s been paid $10 apiece for these, so he’s making $900 a month, selling his prescription drugs on the street,” Sheriff Grady Judd said during a news conference Friday.
"We’re embarrassed… Somebody messed up 12 years ago on a background," Judd stated. "He’s been a stellar volunteer, very well-loved, done a good job, except when he’s selling oxys out of the car, using it as cover. I am livid."
Judd said undercover detectives met up with Roberts, who was in a marked sheriff’s office vehicle, before allowing him to drive to the station & arresting him in the parking lot.
Deputies searched Roberts’ home where they found two guns — a rifle & a pistol — as well as marijuana. Judd said Roberts is a convicted felon & called the entire case an “epic system failure.”
The sheriff’s office said Roberts became a volunteer in October 2009.
He faces drug trafficking charges & weapons charges.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — The man who pleaded guilty to killing a 17-year-old St. Petersburg girl and her unborn child 10 years ago learned his fate on Thursday afternoon.
A judge sentenced 34-year-old Jacobee Flowers to 40 years in Florida State Prison for the murder of his girlfriend Morgan Martin.
Martin was 17 years old and four months pregnant when she disappeared in 2012. Four years later, in 2016, Flowers was charged with first-degree murder.
Martin’s remains were never found. Under a deal with the state, Flowers could have faced just 25 years if he led detectives to Martin’s body.
He pointed authorities to a field in Pike County, Alabama. Earlier this month, detectives from the St. Petersburg Police Department went and searched but found nothing.
Earlier this week, a judge signed an order allowing detectives to take Flowers out of the Pinellas County Jail so he could show them exactly where he buried Martin’s body. Again, they found nothing.
Leah Martin, Morgan’s mother, took the stand and addressed Flowers Thursday.
“And I really hope that every bit of you dies inside. I hope Satan sucks your whole soul out, and your family – I hope there’s nothing ever good that comes to you. Ever,” said Martin. “And I hope that every day that you sleep, you have to see her. Do you understand me? I hope you see her face. And, the child that you killed, You didn’t only kill my child, you killed your own.”
Flowers also took the stand and told the victim’s family he is sorry.
“I’d like to say that I truly apologize to you all,” he said. “And when I say you all, I mean specifically Ms. Leah, Sierra and also Ms. Orr.”
When Martin went missing from her St. Petersburg home in 2012, she said she was going to meet with Flowers, but never came home. She claimed Flowers was her child’s father.
St. Petersburg police officers initially classified the case as a missing persons case, but later classified it as a homicide.
A grand jury indicted Flowers for first-degree murder in 2016. He entered a guilty plea to a second-degree murder charge in March.
