On the one year anniversary of his death, the mother of Ahmaud Arbery has filed a lawsuit, alleging there was a conspiracy to protect those responsible for her son's death.

Wanda Cooper filed the civil lawsuit Tuesday in the Southern District of Georgia against the three men charged with murder -- Gregory McMichael, Travis McMichael & William Bryan -- as well as more than a dozen law enforcement officers, Glynn County, former Glynn County District Attorney Jackie Johnson & Ware County District Attorney George Barnhill.

Cooper is seeking more than $1 million in damages.

The lawsuit alleges that, following repeated trespasses by various people at a construction site, Glynn County law enforcement authorized the McMichaels, Bryan & others to act as law enforcement within the community.

It also cites a 2019 memorandum from Glynn County Manager Alan Ours which stated the Glynn County Police Department had a culture of "cronyism, outdated policies, lack of appropriate training & loss of State certification." And that there is "an ongoing culture of cover-up, failure to supervise, abuse of power & lack of accountability."

The lawsuit states that the elder McMichael once worked as an investigator for Johnson's office & she personally intervened to try to keep him on the police force after he repeatedly failed to complete state-mandated officer training.

"Johnson instructed law enforcement not to arrest her former colleague, his son or Bryan," the lawsuit states.

Johnson gave the case to neighboring Ware County. But Barnhill also had a prior relationship with Gregory McMichael.

"When this connection was discovered, Barnhill, too, was forced to recuse himself, but not before issuing a letter intended to justify the murder of Ahmaud as "perfectly legal," based on a multitude of demonstrably false statements," the lawsuit reads.

WHEN US reality type Kim Kardashian posted a picture on Twitter yesterday of her holding an uncomfortable looking cat by the scruff of the neck, a flood of hateful messages followed.

Many too expletive-laden for us to use, suffice to say the "Twitterverse" wasn't happy.

"This is hot!!!!!!!.... Just don't let PETA get an eye of this cuz it look like that kitty is in pain," one fan wrote (with perfect grammar clearly).

TMZ reported Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals L.A. as saying: "It is permissible to hold a kitten by his or her scruff for a brief amount of time" but "the manner in which Ms. Kardashian is holding the kitten could lead others to mishandle animals."

The controversial pic was taken at a photo shoot in Sydney this week, with Kim posting "good kitty cat!" under the snap.

Confidential asked the RSPCA's Michael Beatty for his take on the puss's predicament.

"To be honest, we probably handle them like that most of the time," Beatty said.

"But if it's a larger cat, we'd put the hand under the rump. She's at least half right."

Yesterday Kardashian looked serene and calm on the outside but inside was anything but when asked about recent reports that she had moved on from long-time beau, gridiron player Reggie Bush, and been spied kissing Real Madrid soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo.

The cable TV starlet, who is going into her fifth series of Keeping Up With The Kardashians in the US and has become a gossip magazine favourite, has been flown out to Australia to promote a new Optus product, the Motoblur.

But it was social networking of another kind that was on Confidential's mind when we met up with the curvy 29-year-old at The Winery yesterday.

When asked about her break-up with Bush she said: "We're great friends. We broke up in March but there's no drama. It's so crazy because people always want to make it dramatic but there really wasn't an issue, we just didn't spend as much time as we used to together. We are focused on work."

And when asked about reports she'd been spotted kissing soccer star Ronaldo a week ago she refused to comment: "I've kissed about 1000 people this week, according to US tabloids."
