LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - Las Vegas Police are still looking for a suspect involved in a November carjacking in which the victim shot & killed 1 of the suspects.

On November 19th, a woman told detectives she went to pick up her friend on their way to a Friendsgiving. The woman said the pair was too early to the party, so they decided to park near the house to wait. She said she noticed a vehicle approach them fast. She said the suspects parked directly in front of her car blocking it. She told detectives 2 black males got out of the vehicle with guns pointed at the women. The men yelled at the women to get out of the car. Before she could process what was going on, one of the males opened the driver’s side door & grabbed her by the shirt, yanking her out of the car. 1 of the men got into the driver’s seat & attempted to drive away but was not able to get the vehicle into drive. The woman said the car requires a button to be pressed to drive the car. The man had trouble doing so & placed his gun in his lap while he attempted to steal the car. The woman told her friend to run.

A 2nd suspect got into the passenger seat & told the 1st suspect, “Just go.” The woman noticed the suspect wasn’t holding the gun anymore. She grabbed it out of his lap & ran. The man tackled her from behind. That’s when she turned & shot him.

Officers arrived & found a deceased male adult bleeding from his head lying in street. During the course of the investigation, detectives saw a vehicle of interest casing the area in multiple surveillance videos.

On December 2nd, LVMPD officers located Jaylin Morrison & took him into custody. 

Morrison is facing charges of 2nd-degree kidnapping, conspiracy to commit robbery, attempted robbery with a deadly weapon, burglary with the use of a deadly weapon & attempted grand larceny of a vehicle.

The nonbinary Biden administration official facing up to 5 years in prison for allegedly stealing luggage in Minnesota now faces up to 10 years in prison for stealing another bag in Nevada.

Samuel Brinton — who has served as the Energy Department's deputy assistant secretary for spent fuel & waste disposition since June allegedly stole a suitcase with a total estimate worth of $3,670 on July 6 at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas. The bag contained jewelry valued at $1,700, clothing worth $850 & makeup valued at $500.

Police closed the investigation, though, after they were unable to identify the person who took the suitcase.

On Nov. 29, investigators reopened the case after media reports highlighting Brinton's alleged theft in a Minnesota airport surfaced. Upon viewing the news articles, the officer who had closed the case months earlier "immediately recognized" Brinton "as the suspect pertaining to this case."

"Brinton demonstrated several signs of abnormal behavior while taking the victim's luggage which are cues suspects typically give off when committing luggage theft," the LVMPD detective wrote in a report. "Specifically, Brinton pulled the victim's luggage from the carousel & examined the tag. Then placing it back on the carousel, looking in all directions for anyone who might be watching," it continued. "Pulling it back off the carousel before walking away with it quickly."

In Nevada, grand larceny of items worth more than $3,500 is considered a category B felony & is punishable by up to 10 years in prison & a fine of up to $10,000.

Brinton is scheduled to appear at a court hearing in Minnesota state court later this month to face similar charges from a September incident at the Minneapolis St. Paul Airport. 

"Sam Brinton is on leave from DOE," a DOE spokesperson said.

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (AP) — A 76-year-old Minnesota man is facing criminal charges because he was shooting at a squirrel and a bullet went through a child’s bedroom window in a neighboring home.

East Grand Forks Police said they arrested the man Sunday after his neighbor reported some bullet holes in the siding of their home and a hole in the window of their son’s bedroom.

The man told officers he had been watching ball games on television and noticed a squirrel on his bird feeder, according to police. He told officers he shot a .22-caliber rifle from his bedroom window at the squirrel and believed he hit the animal.

He told officers he had shot at squirrels at least six times over the past two years because he considered it “war” when they got into his bird feeder.

The man’s wife said to him, “Well, I told you” as he was being arrested, police said.

The man is charged with recklessly handling a dangerous weapon, a misdemeanor, and a felony count of discharging a firearm within a municipality. He faces up to two years in prison and a $5,000 fine for the felony charge.

Raised in the small town of Olney, Maryland MNA (Matthew Nino Azcuy) watched and listened to all of the greatest rappers and musicians during the 1990’s and early 2000’s. During this golden age of music and music videos, Azcuy was inspired by both rappers and rock groups alike, and when he was sixteen years old decided to make his own music. After years of finding his sound, he teamed up with local producer nemo, to make his album “Diamond Dog”. Matthew Nino Azcuy, who prefers to just go by MNA, was born and raised in the small town of Olney, Maryland during the 1990s and early 2000s and has taken great inspiration from the great names of this time for his work as a result. Indeed, his music's unique energy and passion often come from these early inspirations, offering a unique blend of the rock and rap genres to create an electronic-type sound that's wonderfully unique. MNA's first ventures in the music field occurred at the age of sixteen when he first ventured into music writing. However, it took years for him to truly find that one unique sound that he could call "his" - but we're so glad that he got there in the end! In fact, music writing was something of a saving grace for Azcuy, who turned to the comfort offered by songwriting after a difficult period in his life, and he credits both God and his music for helping him to get back on track and strive for greater pursuits. As well as being an accomplished singer and songwriter, MNA has also dabbled in several other creative fields as a professional movie actor and published author, with numerous works of poetry to his name. Some of his previous musical albums include titles such as Black Flag, Paradise, and For You. We wish MNA all the best with his musical career, and with over 1000 monthly listens on Spotify alone, it's fair to say he's an up-and-coming artist to keep an eye on! MNA proves himself to be a rather versatile performer, capable of sincere, emotionally expressive R&B crooning, and casual, charismatic rapping. Mercenary by MNA is an album about the dark fantasy world in which rap culture and the entertainment industry exist. Mercenary, which compares a businessman to a gun for hire, is an album and story that depicts the battle inside of every entrepreneur. How fighting for one’s money, power, career, legacy, and place in the world can often resemble the personal sacrifice of war and soldiers, albeit for profit. Authorities said an Iowa couple drowned their newborn in a bathtub shortly after she was born, fearing her cries would draw the attention of police. They’re charged with first-degree murder, even though the baby’s remains have not been found in weeks of searching.

Brandon D. Thoma, 31, & Taylor K. Blaha, 24, both of Fort Dodge, were charged Wednesday in the presumed death of the infant & Thoma also was charged with a felony count of abusing a corpse.

Webster County Sheriff’s Detective Amy Stringer said police received a call on Nov. 22 from a caseworker who said Blaha had shown up at a Fort Dodge hospital saying she had given birth days earlier at the apartment she shared with Thoma, the father of the baby & of Blaha’s 2-year-old child.

In a subsequent interview with Stringer, Blaha said she had discovered in April that she was pregnant & that she gave birth on Nov. 16 in the apartment bathroom after Thoma gave her methamphetamine to deal with the pain.

Blaha confirmed that the baby was born alive & said she & Thoma agreed to name the baby Kayleen Lee.

Blaha said they planned to give the baby to Blaha’s sister to adopt, but grew fearful her cries would draw the attention of neighbors & police, so they held the baby underwater in the bathtub until she drowned. Thoma then placed the baby’s body in a plastic storage container, wrapped the container in trash bags & carried it out of the apartment in a backpack.

Stringer said she also questioned Thoma, who admitted to drowning the baby, saying he feared police would discover meth in her system & take their 2-year-old child from them.

A text messages between Blaha & Thoma indicated he dumped the baby’s body in a wooded area, but a search there turned up nothing. 

Both were ordered held Thursday on bonds of $1 million, with preliminary hearings set for Dec. 15.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A New Orleans Police Department employee who was moonlighting as an Uber driver was stabbed to death by a passenger in what a sheriff said was a random act of deadly violence.

Yolanda Dillion, 54, was a fiscal analyst with the police department, New Orleans police chief Shaun Ferguson said Friday. She was stabbed multiple times Thursday afternoon in her car in the parking lot of a hotel in neighboring Jefferson Parish. She died later at a hospital.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto said detectives worked with Uber to determine the identity of her passenger, who had been picked up in New Orleans. They found him staying at the hotel.

Lopinto said Brandon Jacobs, 29, of Harvey, admitted to the killing.

“He stated that he woke up yesterday morning & decided he was going to kill someone,” Lopinto said.

Jacobs is being held without bond on a second-degree murder charge. 

The sheriff said Jacobs posted video of the aftermath of the stabbing on social media & authorities worked with Facebook to have it taken down.

“We asked him specifically, ‘How did you pick her?’ His response was, ‘I didn’t pick her, Uber picked her.’ Meaning that she was the random person that picked him up that day,” Lopinto said.

"Don't make a wrong move," the officer said as he pinned the struggling subject to the ground. "Period."

The officer tightened the handcuffs around the subject's thin wrists.

"Ow, ow, ow, it really hurts," the subject exclaimed.

The officer pressed his weight into the subject's small body while school staff watched it all unfold. The person he was restraining was 7 years old.

"If you, my friend, are not acquainted with the juvenile justice system, you will be very shortly," the officer told the child.

Earlier that day, the child allegedly spit at a teacher. Now, he was in handcuffs & a police officer was saying he could end up in jail.

That child — a 2nd grader with autism at a North Carolina school — was ultimately pinned on the floor for 38 minutes. At one point the officer put his knee in the child's back.

In 2018, a 10-year-old with autism was pinned face down and cuffed in Denton, Texas.

Another boy with autism, just 11 years old, was handcuffed & dragged out of school & forced into a sheriff's deputy's car in Colorado in 2021.

That same year, officers handcuffed & screamed at a 5-year-old who had wandered away from school.

More than 700 children were arrested in U.S. elementary schools during the 2017-2018 school year alone.

Children with documented disabilities were 4 times more likely to be arrested at school.

Black students are even more disproportionately affected. They made up nearly half of all arrests at elementary schools. But they accounted for just 15% of the student population in those schools.

Anyone working with children with disabilities must understand how to respond when a child with an emotional or behavioral disorder acts out, according to Dr. Sonya Mathies-Dinizulu.

In a crisis, children need someone to "be there to help the kid start to de-escalate & help soothe," she said.
