(CNN) A weekend rash of shootings -- 15, to be exact, five of them fatal -- has left Baltimore residents frightened and angry, and one activist cum City Council candidate says she's tired of leaders paying lip service to violence.

The shootings unfolded in the span of about 40 hours, beginning about 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
Tori Rose, who is running for a Council seat in west Baltimore, lost her cousin, Donnell Candy Jr., to gun violence in 2018. On Sunday, she returned to the spot where he was slain to demand change. She posted video of the gathering to her Facebook page.

"We have lost too many, and if City Hall doesn't come get us, if the police commissioners don't have a plan, what are we going to do? We're going to make a plan. If not us, then who?" she asked demonstrators.

Rose isn't the only resident seeking office who has had enough. City Council President Brandon Scott, who is running for mayor, said in a statement that the city should've been celebrating the Baltimore Ravens playoff game Saturday. Instead, residents were left reeling from widespread gun violence in the city.

The trauma of the violence "does not get buried with the victims. It extends to the survivors, families and communities who are left to cope with the aftermath and pick up the pieces. This violence is heartbreaking and must stop now," he said.

Scott will be questioning Police Commissioner Michael Harrison and other city leaders, pressing them on their plans to mitigate the violence in the city, he said.

In a statement, he said, "2020 does not have to wreak the same havoc as 2019. I will not allow it." He pointed to the 348 murders in the city last year, which, according to The Baltimore Sun, was an uptick of more than 13% from the previous year.

Video After The Jump

In this episode of People's Party, Talib Kweli and co-host Jasmin Leigh sit down with Grammy Award-winning record producer and pioneer of the "Trap Music" sound -- Zaytoven. This in-depth interview gives us great insight on how Zay became one of the biggest names in the industry, starting with his beginnings living in the Bay during the 90's perfecting his craft under legends like JT The Bigga Figga and E-40, then moving to Atlanta to produce and help shape the careers of so many Trap Music icons, including Lecrae, Gucci Mane, Migos, and countless others. As the interview progresses, Zaytoven opens up about the church's influence on his music, and how he balances his deep-rooted faith, while operating in the Trap world.

Kweli, Jasmin, and Zaytoven go on to discuss his talent as a barber, and how that skill helped contribute to his level of success. (Along with why he kept a steady gig, even when he had hits.) Talib and Zaytoven trade stories of their first interactions with Gucci Mane, and the lead up to their collaboration on the record "Poltergeist." Zay also shares how he met Migos and Usher, and details the awe he experienced watching Future at work in the studio.

As the interview comes to a close the trio discusses contrasting strategies on staying relevant with today's fickle fan-bases, producers not getting their due props in the Spotify era, and what Zaytoven has in store for us down the line.

Another bizarre police incident at Antonio Brown's Florida home -- this time, cops responded after a dispute with his baby mama ... and it turned VERY nasty.

We've reached out to cops to find out exactly why they were called to the home -- and who made the call. But, here's what we know so far ...

Several Hollywood Police Dept. officers arrived at Brown's home around 10 AM local time on Monday ... and Brown's baby mama, Chelsie Kyriss, was there too. They have 3 children together.

Brown repeatedly told the officers he had previously evicted her from his home -- but allowed her on the property so she could pick up her kids and take them to school.

But, Brown claims during the handoff, Chelsie tried to steal one of his cars -- and he wasn't having it.

At one point, AB screams at Kyriss ... "Bitch, you don't drive Bentleys. This is not your life."

Brown was shouting to the cops that he wanted her off his property, ASAP -- and screamed insults at her from across the street ... in front of her kids.

The whole situation was super heated, with a very frustrated Brown cussing at the officers -- telling them they don't know how to do their jobs.

During the end of the exchange, Brown grabs a bag of gummy candies (shaped like penises) and throws them into the street in Chelsie's direction ... screaming at her to have a "bag of dicks."

All the while, AB is screaming insults at her ... "Take that fish-looking bitch to jail."

Brown also acknowledges that the stand-off isn't the best look for his NFL future -- but says, "Fuck the NFL. This is real life."

We're reaching out to cops to find out what the hell they're going to do about this. Stay tuned.

New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman was arrested in Beverly Hills and charged with vandalism for allegedly jumping on someone’s car, police told the Herald.

Edelman allegedly caused damage to a parked vehicle by jumping on its hood. The 33-year-old was released the same night. It is unclear whether the Los Angeles County D.A. will file charges.

In a statement, Beverly Hills police said Edelman’s alleged jump onto the car occurred at about 9 p.m. and happened in the 200-block of North Beverly Drive.

Paul Pierce, on his official Instagram page, posted a photograph of himself with Edelman and former Pats wideout Danny Amendola Saturday night tagged with a location at Cantina Frida, a restaurant in the same block as the alleged incident.

Edelman was released with a citation. He is scheduled to appear in a California courtroom on April 13, 2020.

The Patriots are aware of the arrest and had no comment, according to a team spokesman.

PASCO COUNTY, Fla. - Deputies said Serina Maris Probus told them she doesn’t remember hitting a man with her SUV.

One reason might be that it happened back in October. Another reason: Deputies said she claimed to be too high on cocaine to remember doing so.

They didn’t charge her for that until Jan. 1 while responding to a separate incident at her sister-in-law’s home. Deputies told The Tampa Bay Times Probus tried to leave the home with her 6-month-old baby.

The sister-in-law stopped her by wrapping her arms around her, but then deputies said Probus bit her on the hand.

They took her into custody and said she hurled profanities at them while locked in the patrol car. Authorities said she even kicked out a window in the cruiser.

Deputies used a hobble restraint to bind her legs, but they said she tried to urinate on them during the struggle. They said she was more successful with her attempts to spit on them once they got her in the car.

For the New Year’s Day incident, Probus faces a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence and a felony charge of battery on a law enforcement officer. In the October incident, she faces a felony count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Deputies said she and a man had been at a bar on Oct. 10. Around 9:30 p.m., she and the man shouted at one another through the front window of her SUV, deputies said.

Investigators said the man was walking away and Probus sped up to 15 mph and hit him. He landed on the hood and fell to the ground after she hit the brakes.

Deputies said she took him to the hospital afterward but also discovered a message in which Probus allegedly told him, “Tell Det. Murphy I hit you with the car ima tell her you deserved it and I would do it all over again if I could.”

VENICE, Calif. (KABC) -- Relatives sprang into action after a homeless man attempted to grab a 6-year-old from her family while they were at a restaurant in Venice.

The incident happened Saturday night while the family was having dinner outside on the restaurant patio.

Riley Pegram, the girl's father, said the man repeatedly walked up to them and tried taking the girl's from her mother's arms, claiming that he had to "save her."

When he returned for the final time, Pegram's brother can be seen on surveillance video grabbing the suspect from the hair and throwing him backwards on the ground.

They say it's clear the man wasn't in his right mind.

"We think he was on something. On some type of drugs or something. I don't know if he was homeless but I know he was on drugs," Riley said.

The pair held the man down until police arrived and say it took six officers to finally arrest him.

"They got him down but the whole time he was just yelling out loud 'Save the girl, I need to save her'," Riley added.

The suspect, identified as Evan McLaurin-Nelson, is a former Las Vegas resident who moved to California three years ago and is believed to be homeless, according to detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department. He has an arrest record in both states that includes battery, indecent exposure and disorderly conduct.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office filed one count of attempted kidnapping and one count of resisting a peace officer against McLaurin-Nelson.

Rapper Trick Daddy was arrested in Miami-Dade Saturday morning on a cocaine possession charge.

According to the police report, a Miami-Dade officer responded to a report of a driver hitting signs and running red lights in a dark colored Range Rover in the area of Southwest 128th Avenue and 42nd Street in Miami around 3:20 a.m.

When the officer approached the driver’s side, he saw that the driver “appeared to be asleep behind the wheel.”

Once he was awakened by a knock on the window, the man, identified by his driver’s license as Maurice Samuel Young — Trick Daddy’s birth name — told the officer he had left a club in Miami Gardens near Northwest 37th Avenue and 187th Street.

The arrest affidavit said that Young told the officer he had had about five drinks hours earlier at the club and that he was dropping someone off and heading home.

The report said Young had slurred speech, bloodshot, watery and glassy eyes and that the officer smelled alcohol on his breath. He agreed to a field sobriety test, which he could not successfully complete, police said.

Young was taken to the Hammocks District Station on 142nd Avenue. While there, police found cocaine inside a dollar bill while Trick Daddy was putting his possessions in a plastic bag.

Police also say he was wanted on a warrant for driving under the influence.

Trick Daddy was born 45 years ago in Liberty City. He was booked into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center around 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

His bond was set at $5,000 on the cocaine possession charge and $1,000 on the driving under the influence charge.

Indianapolis rapper Troy Ward aka T. Ward, was convicted of murder and robbery charges in a 2017 case. Among witness testimony, cellphone records and other evidence presented by prosecutors were the lyrics to his rap song heard on the internet.

In the Ward case, Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said, there was no mistaking the specificity of the lyrics, which matched details of the 2017 triple homicide.

The victims were killed after Ward, 21, and four others carried out a plan to rob marijuana dealer Justin Crowder, 19.

On the evening of July 16, 2017, an accomplice arrived at Crowder’s north-side home for a drug deal. He knocked on Crowder’s door while Ward and another man hid nearby.

When Crowder opened the door, the trio charged into the apartment. Ward started shooting.

Crowder and his roommates, Dominique Miller, 25, and Jordan Wright, 25, were killed. The assailants quickly grabbed a safe from Crowder’s room and fled. Two other members of their group were waiting in a getaway car.

During the investigation Ward’s identity became known to police. A detective who later viewed Ward’s Facebook profile found a link to the nearly two-minute track "I'm Different" on the online music-sharing platform SoundCloud.

In an interview with IndyStar, Mears said the lyrics were consistent with the facts of the case.

“This was not a random talk about some random incident,” Mears said.

"I creep up to the door silently and slow/ I opened up that (expletive) and now we clashing poles/ Two shots to the body two shots to the dome/ Finesse the (expletive) stash and then I took it home."

Ward and the other two men, Mears said, crept up the stairs of the apartment complex, according to testimony at Ward’s trial. After they burst through the door with “poles,” a slang term for guns, Ward began shooting. Each victim was shot in the head and the chest. The trio then fled with the “stash," the safe.

The song also has a detail about swimming trunks. Mears said one of the victims was wearing swimming trunks when he was killed.

“When you take all of those things together,” Mears said, “that song is pretty consistent with the facts of the case. We pretty much broke it down, lyric by lyric.”

Yo Gotti's sick and tired of the fatal bloodshed in Mississippi State Prisons, so he's enlisted Jay-Z's Roc Nation to demand the Governor make immediate changes ... or face a lawsuit.

On the heels of 5 inmates getting killed in 3 different MS prisons ... Gotti's called on Team Roc -- the philanthropic arm of Roc Nation -- and it fired off a letter Thursday to Gov. Phil Bryant. In the letter, they make it clear they'll take legal action if Bryant doesn't take steps to improve prison conditions.

Gotti's pissed off because 2 of the deaths went down at the prison known as Parchman Farm ... not far from his hometown of Memphis. Gotti says the prison conditions are "absolutely inhumane and unconstitutional."

Prison violence in Mississippi has increased sharply in the last 10 days, with riots and escapes. Critics say gangs have almost literally taken over some of the penitentiaries ... which are reportedly woefully understaffed and underfunded.

In its letter to the Governor, Team Roc says inmates -- male and female -- are "forced to live in squalor, with rats that crawl over them as they sleep on the floor, having been denied even a mattress for a cot." They believe the conditions are so bad, they constitute cruel and unusual punishment ... a violation of the Eighth Amendment.

Sources close to Gotti tell TMZ ... he and Roc Nation will give Gov. Bryant through the weekend to improve the situation. If nothing changes, we're told attorney Alex Spiro will file a civil rights lawsuit.
