MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A Macomb County woman is accused of setting a Jeep on fire and Local 4 spoke to the owner of the vehicle.

Sydney Parham, a 26-year-old woman from Fraser, was charged with arson in connection to the Wednesday Harrison Township vehicle fire.

According to authorities, Macomb County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at about 8 a.m. to the San Remo Villa Apartment complex on Union Lake Road on reports of a vehicle fire.

Police said the investigation revealed no one went near the Jeep during the time of the fire other than a woman believed to be Parham, who matched the description given by witnesses and what was seen on video recorded from the scene.

Naya Ashford lives in the San Remo Villa Apartment complex and saw the video on social media. She didn’t realize the incident happened right outside.

Ashford’s car only had an ash mark, but not everyone else in the parking lot was as lucky. The flames melted two cars. The Jeep was only 3 months old.

Avery Stevenson shared the video he took when he went to the impound lot to see what was left of his Jeep. He didn’t want to go on camera, but he did say he knows the suspect.

He said she was not his girlfriend. He said he’s not sure what the motive could be.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Former San Francisco 49er Dana Stubblefield was convicted Monday of the rape of a developmentally disabled woman, after prosecutors said he lured the victim to his home with the promise of a babysitting job.

A jury found Stubblefield, 49, guilty of rape by force, oral copulation by force and false imprisonment, and acquitted him of raping a person incapable of giving consent, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Jurors also found that Stubblefield used a gun during the assault, prosecutors said.

Stubblefield could face 15 years to life in prison. He was a defensive lineman for the San Francisco 49ers and the Oakland Raiders.

The verdict came after a nine-month trial, and five years after the victim reported the April 2015 sexual assault to police, the newspaper said.

A day before the assault, Stubblefield contacted the then 31-year-old woman on a baby-sitting website and arranged an interview, prosecutors said.

According to a report by the Morgan Hill Police Department, the interview lasted about 20 minutes. She later received a text from Stubblefield saying he wanted to pay her for her time that day, and she went back to the house.

After raping her, Stubblefield gave her $80 and let her go, according to the report. The woman immediately went to police and reported the rape. DNA evidence matched that of Stubblefield, the report said.

Defense attorneys argued that there was no rape and that the woman consented to sex.

Allen Sawyer, one of Stubblefield’s trial attorneys, described the incident as a “paid encounter for sex.” He said the defense team was precluded from showing the jury strong evidence that would have supported the contention.

“There’s a lot of information that we have, that the jury was not allowed to have, that we think would have been impactful to their decision,” Sawyer told the Chronicle Monday after the verdict was read.

Sawyer said defense attorneys will seek a new trial.

“We expect to keep fighting for Mr. Stubblefield’s innocence,” Sawyer said. “We will clear his name, and we look forward to fighting this out in the courts. This is just the first battle.”

Stubblefield was remanded to jail without bail, pending sentencing.

Stubblefield was drafted by the 49ers in 1993 and named to the NFL All-Pro team from 1994 through 1997. He spent the next three seasons with Washington, then played two more years with the 49ers and a final season with the Raiders before retiring at the start of the 2004 season.

In his final season, the NFL fined Stubblefield and three other Raiders for testing positive for steroids. In 2009, a federal judge fined him $5,000 and placed him on two years’ probation for lying to an IRS agent about his steroid use, the Chronicle said.

NEW YORK - At least 34 people were shot including 10 who were killed during another bloody weekend in New York City.

A 16-year-old boy was shot in the head in the Cypress Hills section of Brooklyn Sunday. His body was found at the entrance to a park, according to police. An 18-year-old man was also shot in the head and was in critical condition. A 17-year-old was shot in the leg and was in stable condition, police said.

In Flatbush, a 32-year-old man was shot in the face and chest in the area of East 16th Street on Sunday. He later died.

Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted late Sunday, “This is heartbreaking. His life was just beginning.” De Blasio added, “Sending my thoughts and prayers to the families of these boys. No parent should ever have to bury a child.”

Police have made no arrests.

Seven people were killed on Sunday alone. The shootings were part of a surge in gun violence in New York City.

Since July 19, murders were up 24 percent in the city while shootings were up 69 percent from the same time period a year earlier.

NEW YORK (AP) — Kyrie Irving is making sure WNBA players can sit out the season and not stress about a paycheck.

The Brooklyn Nets star is committing $1.5 million to supplement the income of players who choose not to play this season, whether it be because of coronavirus concerns or social justice reasons.

The funds will come from the KAI Empowerment Initiative that Irving launched Monday. It will also provide players with a financial literacy program created by UBS.

Irving said that with the help of WNBA players Natasha Cloud — who chose to sit out — and Jewell Loyd, he connected with several WNBA players who discussed with him the challenges they faced in deciding whether to play. The season began Saturday and will be played entirely at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

He decided to help with the financial burden in a league where the top annual salary is a little more than $200,000.

“Whether a person decided to fight for social justice, play basketball, focus on physical or mental health, or simply connect with their families, this initiative can hopefully support their priorities and decisions,” Irving said in a statement.

Players such as Cloud and Atlanta’s Renee Montgomery opted against playing for social reform reasons, though it’s unclear how many will qualify for Irving’s program.

To be eligible, players must provide insight into the circumstances surrounding their decision and not be receiving salary support from any other entity. An opt-out for medical reasons must be connected to the coronavirus pandemic.

Players can get information at www.kaiempowermentinitiative.com. They need to apply by Aug. 11 and recipients will be notified on Aug. 24.

Irving is not with the Nets for the restart of the NBA season as he recovers from shoulder surgery. He has been outspoken about social justice issues and recently produced a TV special calling for action in the death of Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old Black emergency medical technician who was shot eight times in Louisville, Kentucky, on March 13 by plainclothes officers serving a narcotics search warrant without knocking at her apartment. No drugs were found.

WNBA players wore Taylor’s name on their jerseys during opening weekend.

Biz Markie has been hospitalized for weeks, TMZ has learned, for a serious illness ... sources connected to the rapper tell TMZ.

Biz's rep tells TMZ the illness is not coronavirus. The rep went on to say the trigger for the hospitalization is that he suffers from Type II Diabetes.

He's currently in a Maryland-area hospital and the status of his condition is unclear, but it appears serious.

The rep told us, "He is receiving the best care from an amazing team of medical professionals and we remain positive about the outcome."

Back in 2014 Biz talked about his diabetes diagnosis and how he lost 140 pounds to get it under control -- he went from 385 lbs to 244 lbs. He made a point of saying he did not do a quick fix with a lap band ... he did it the old-fashioned way.

A 15-year-old Black girl who has been incarcerated in Michigan since mid-May after she failed to do her online schoolwork won't be returning home, a judge decided Monday, in a case that has stoked outrage that it is emblematic of systemic racism and the criminalization of Black children.

Oakland County Judge Mary Ellen Brennan determined that the girl has been benefiting from a residential treatment program at a juvenile detention center, but is not yet ready to be with her mother. Brennan, the presiding judge of the court's Family Division, scheduled another hearing for September, NBC affiliate WDIV reported.

The girl, who is being identified only by her middle name, Grace, was the subject of a report published last week by ProPublica Illinois, with politicians and community activists expressing outrage over her incarceration.

Grace told the judge that she wanted to go home: "I miss my mom. I can control myself. I can be obedient."

An Ohio man seen kneeling on the neck of a 2-year-old boy on social media has been arrested, authorities said Thursday.

Isaiah Jackson, 20, was booked into jail on a probation violation after the Clark County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation Tuesday into the photo, which depicts a man with his knee on the back of a white child neck’s along with a caption, “Blm now mf.”

A second person is also seen behind the child holding the youngster’s hands behind his back.

Deputies determined where the incident took place and made contact with Jackson as well as the child and the child’s mother, sheriff officials said.

Jackson was taken into custody after investigators found he had a parole authority hold from the state’s Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, authorities said.

The child was taken to a hospital, where doctors found no injuries in connection to the incident. The child’s mother was unaware that the photo had been taken, deputies said.

“Detectives continue to investigate, and are continuing to compile evidence related to several other persons who were directly involved,” sheriff’s officials said in a statement Thursday.

Sheriff’s officials have prepared the case to be presented to the county prosecutor’s office to provide a “determination on the scope and breadth” of felony charges that Jackson will face in the alleged incident.

The exact charges Jackson may face were not specified by sheriff’s officials. He remained in custody as of Thursday afternoon, jail records show.
