Free-agent quarterback JaMarcus Russell told ESPN's Colleen Dominguez that he tested positive for codeine after the Raiders selected him with the No. 1 pick in the 2007 draft.
"I missed all of training camp, so I didn't get tested when all the other guys got tested," Russell told Dominguez during an "Outside The Lines" interview, the entirety of which can be seen at 9 a.m. ET Aug. 22. "I had a prescription from a doctor, but it wasn't the team doctor."
Russell also said he has used codeine without a prescription, but scoffed at reports that he had a drug problem.
Russell said the allegations of drug use stem from that positive test, and said he has not used codeine in three years.
When asked about Russell's positive test, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said, "No comment."
The former LSU star -- who had missed the 2007 training camp because of a lengthy contract holdout that stretched to the start of the regular season -- said the Raiders came to him and asked him about his possible drug use early in his career.
"Around the time when I first got there or a year after I got there," Russell said, when asked when the Raiders confronted him. "[They] said they were gettin' word in the streets about me using drugs. Then, one of the doctors came to me."
The Raiders released Russell in May, and he was arrested in July for alleged possession of codeine.
Two days after his arrest, the Raiders released a statement saying they "did all they could to intervene and assist with a myriad of issues with JaMarcus Russell."
When Dominguez read the statement to Russell during the interview, he seemed startled and told Dominguez the Raiders' words caught him off-guard. Russell said he had never seen or heard the statement before.
Russell, who was just 7-18 in his three-year career with Oakland, also criticized Raiders coach Tom Cable for blaming him for the team's failure to make the playoffs.
"It kind of took a lot out of me for the respect of Tom Cable," Russell said. "I could have been the worst in the universe. To go on national television and say it was all my fault. ... He's the head coach. I don't think that was very head coach-like, or man-like."
On Wednesday, District Judge Charles McKnight questioned the credibility of the testimony given by Marcus Stevenson, a longtime Russell friend who said he made the codeine-laced drink found in a July 5 raid at Russell's home. Stevenson testified Wednesday that the drink belonged to him, but the judge sent the case to a grand jury.
Mobile County (Ala.) Sheriff's Deputy Johnny Thornton testified the orange-colored drink in Russell's bedroom appeared freshly poured. Investigators said Russell, who was in the bedroom, told them it was his Kool-Aid. Thornton said it later tested positive for codeine.
Thornton also said there were nine people in the house and a codeine bottle without a prescription was found in a cabinet.
Russell's attorney, Donald Briskman, said in an interview with The Associated Press after the hearing that the codeine bottle was in a cabinet at a distance from Russell's bedroom. He said Stevenson told an officer at the home that it belonged to him, not Russell, but authorities took no action against Stevenson.
"They didn't arrest him at the scene. They targeted JaMarcus. ... He should have been discharged today," Briskman said.
Stevenson testified at the hearing that he mixed the drink and didn't make it for Russell. After the hearing, Stevenson was handcuffed and charged with possession of a controlled substance. He was released on bond.
Stevenson's attorney, Greg Evans, raised objections to the questioning of his client, citing his rights against self-incrimination. He later said Stevenson "was sworn to tell the truth and that is what he did."
It could be months before the grand jury decides whether the evidence warrants an indictment.

Just hours after DMX was released from jail yesterday ... the rapper was pulled over by police while driving down Sunset Blvd in a rented Mercedes-Benz ... TMZ has confirmed.
X's manager tells TMZ the rapper left a recording studio around 11:20 PM when he was stopped for a minor traffic violation. We're told once officers asked for X's information, they learned that he didn't have a valid driver's license.
DMX wasn't taken into custody -- for a change -- but he was issued a citation and will be due to appear in court sometime in the near future. We're told the cops allowed a passenger in the car to drive the rapper home.
DMX was released from jail yesterday after serving 18 days of a 90-day sentence stemming from a reckless driving conviction in 2002.

Many people have speculated as to why Montana Fishburne decided to forgo the traditional route to fame by choosing a porn career over acting or singing. Especially given the fact that her father, Laurence is so well known and respected in the Hollywood community.

She recently sat down with ENews and explained that she is just a complete sexual freak who wants to explore every possible situation she can sexually.
"I was interested in my sexuality, just being sexy and those things as a young person. But then, once I had sex and got into it, I was like 'huh, I like this, huh I wanna explore, porn that's where I can do it, let's try it.'" Montana says. "I don't find it glamorous, I find it fun. I like exploring different fantasies, I like being on camera with it. It wasn't ever about the glamour, I like being on camera, doing those things."
Montana realizes her dad might not be happy with her decision.
"For him, one it's his reputation because we are linked together. I mean it's hard for any dad to see their daughter on tape like that. I understand, but at the same time I want him to understand that this is my dream."

Rapper Bow Wow's mother, Teresa Caldwell is the latest casualty of the IRS's ramped up attempts to collect taxes owed by celebrities.
According to SandraRose.com, Caldwell's Taste boutique in Atlanta was claimed by the state department of revenue for taxes owed.
It seems as if every week, we are reporting on a different celeb who is in trouble with Uncle Sam.
Recent names on the IRS hit list include Chris Tucker, Fat Joe, Wesley Snipes, David Alan Grier, Method Man, Young Buck, Toni Braxton, Flavor Flav, Lil Wayne, Swizz Beatz and Big Boi.
Don't expect this trend to stop anytime soon.
Allhiphop.com recently reported that the IRS has formed a special "issue management team" that tracks celebrities, keeping track of their spending habits.
The unit has even caught stars engaging in other illegal activites while tailing them.
So, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean Big Brother isn't really keeping an eye on you.

In a video posted Thursday (August 12) on ThisIs50.com, 50 is seen on the phone claiming to be a radio personality: "Shawn from Radio One." Fif then poses the question, "What's your real issue with 50 Cent?"
50's call was quickly disconnected and he was blocked from calling back. Later on in the video, though, 50 is seen yelling into the phone, pretending to talk to Shyne, spitting Mel Gibson-eque obscenities and declaring "you're on an island. You can't go to war on an island."
On Thursday, Shyne, deported last year to his native Belize, responded in a Skype interview with MTV News.
"Wow. That's like an all-time low," Shyne said. "I didn't know he was so desperate. He's gone from confidential informant, witness-protection program dude, getting order [of protection] on muthaf---as. Now he's a stalker. I was in shock. He called up saying he was 'Jamal from Harlem.' He didn't call up saying he's Curtis Jackson, Hawaii 5-0. He's a busta. I can't believe it. I can't believe he would stoop to that low. Then again, a guy in the witness-protection program, he has no shame."
Shyne said he wasn't aware that it was 50 who had called in until after he'd finished his interviews.
"You know how it is. When you do these things, you always gotta expect a muthaf---a to call and he might be disgruntled. We took it as another disgruntled person. 'Cause you know, I don't know what his voice sounds like. I don't listen to nothing he do. If we on the yard, and they put his video on, they change the TV in the yard," Shyne explained, referring to his recently completed prison stint. "I don't jack that dude on no level. I don't know what his voice sound like. But somebody at Def Jam caught him. He's been reaching out to one of my generals in the street begging for peace. He caught his voice too. It was after the fact.
"I thought it was somebody who was having a bad day, who wanted to know the situation. It wasn't until after everything was finished, muthaf---as at Def Jam was like, 'That was Boo-Boo. That was Hawaii 5-0.' I was like, 'No. No.' Then he put the [video] out, like he was talking reckless. He's a creep. Any of my comments have been honest comments. These dudes do anything, I don't give a f---. It never bothered me. The fact that he's sitting in New York, selling his Vitamin Water, listening to my Ustream. What the f---? You're stalking me. Go take some steroids. Find something to do."
50 Cent could not be reached for comment.

Reporter Elie Seckbach always has good interviews and gets information that isn't generally known to the public.
In his interview with Ron Artest, he revealed that Manny Pacquia's trainer, Freddie Roach speaks highly of the NBA star's boxing skills and that Ron trains regularly.
Ron Ron talked about his dreams of one day getting in the ring.
"I would love to be trained by Freddie Roach, coming under Manny Pacquiao and maybe having a fight. Somebody on my level, not that much better, I don't wanna get knocked out cold."
Somehow I can't imagine anybody knocking Ron out. He also talked about Don King possibly stepping in to replace Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions, to negotiate on Floyd Mayweather Jr's behalf for the Pacquiao fight.
"When I first heard of that fight I thought Don King, I said Don King should promote Mayweather instead of Oscar because Don King has that loud voicde and he always talks a lot of trash. All the funny vocabulary words. Everybody and their mama knows Don King is gonna say something crazy."
Ron is really a funny dude, he says he's running for President in the next election against Barack Obama. Ron says that instead of debates he's gonna get at Barack with some bars rhyming. And everybody will have to where t-shirts with the words "What's Popppin" in the from including the Secretary Of Defense".

The ink reads "rebelle fleur" which translates to "rebel flower" from French to English.
But, according to Popeater she screwed up:
"In French, adjectives typically follow the nouns they modify. To translate as "rebel flower," which we assume is what she intended, that tattoo should read "fleur rebelle."
Riri, go get that fixed before the whole world notices........damn, it's too late...lol.
