Video After The Jump

MINNEAPOLIS — Agents from the FBI and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) have been called in to investigate possible civil rights violations after a man died while in Minneapolis police custody Monday, an incident that was videotaped and is creating strong reaction on social media.

Squads were called to the 3700 block of Chicago Avenue South shortly after 8 p.m. on reports of a forgery in progress. According to a press release from Minneapolis Police, they were advised that the suspect was sitting on top of a vehicle and appeared to be under the influence.

Police arrived and found the man, described as being in his 40s, inside his car. He was told to get out of his car by the officers, and proceeded to physically resist them, according to the police press release.

A videotape that appears to capture the encounter shows an officer kneeling on the man's neck as he begs for help, saying "I cannot breathe." After several minutes, the man on the ground stops moving. Police called an ambulance and the suspect was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Early Tuesday Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey appeared at a media briefing with Chief of Police Medaria Arradondo. Frey was emotional and clearly rattled by the video clip he had watched, and in his words, replayed over and over in his mind as he searched for words to describe what he had seen.

"He should not have died," Frey said definitively. "For five minutes we watched as a white officer pressed his knee to the neck of a black man. For five minutes. When you hear someone calling for help, you are supposed to help. This officer failed in the most basic human sense. What happened on Chicago and 38th this last night was simply awful."

Frey then apologized to the family of the man, identified as George Floyd, and the black community of Minneapolis.

The officer involved has been identified as Derek Chauvin.

Video After The Jump

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The FBI has been called to investigate after a man died Monday night in south Minneapolis after an encounter with police.

In a statement early Tuesday, police described what happened as a medical incident. However, a video posted on social media shows an officer kneeing a man’s neck to the ground for several minutes. Before he goes unconscious, the man, who is black, repeatedly tells officers he can’t breathe.

At a press conference Tuesday morning, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey alluded to the graphic footage, saying: “I believe what I saw, and what I saw was wrong at every level.”

The mayor added: “Being black in America should not be a death sentence.”

According to police, officers responded shortly after 8 p.m. Monday to the 3700 block of Chicago Avenue South, where a man was reportedly trying to use forged documents at Cup Foods.

At the scene, police found the man, who appeared to be in his 40s and intoxicated, in a blue car. Officers told him to get out. Their body cameras were running.

“After he got out, he physically resisted officers,” police spokesman John Elder told reporters early Tuesday. “Officers were able to get the suspect into handcuffs and officers noticed that the man was going into medical distress.”

An ambulance brought the man to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he died shortly after, police say. His name has not been released.

Video After The Jump

This is a disgusting case of Karen-ing caught on video -- a white woman calling the police and pretending a black man is attacking her ... when he really just asked her to leash her dog.

This went down Monday in NYC's Central Park ... and the video starts with the woman attempting to leash her dog, but then she quickly walks toward the man recording the video ... who'd complained her dog was off-leash. All dogs are required to be on-leash, by law, in Central Park.

What happened next is really heinous to watch play out -- she asked the man to stop recording her, which he didn't. She then threatened to call NYPD and "tell them there's an African-American man threatening my life."

The man encouraged her to call and, of course, she did and carried out her threat ... which you have to see. The woman started yelling, and used a high-pitched, hurried tone -- trying to make it sound like she was in imminent danger.

It worked. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... NYPD responded around 8 AM, but when they arrived both parties had left, so no tickets, no arrests. We're told the initial call dispatch put out to officers was for a "possible assault."

Well, the cops didn't get her, but with the video getting around on social media ... the woman is, deservedly, getting dragged online. Several people believe they've ID'd her and her dog. BTW, the woman was also dragging/choking her poor dog during her phony-baloney rant to cops.

Aside from the harmful, blatant lie about a fellow citizen ... she also wasted NYPD resources at a time when the city is still recovering from being the coronavirus epicenter.

"Karen" has been put on administrative leave by her employer, an investment company, in the wake of the video surfacing. The company, Franklin Templeton, said, "We take these matters very seriously, and we do not condone racism of any kind."

The woman, whose real name is Amy Cooper, said Monday, "I sincerely and humbly apologize to everyone, especially to that man, his family ... It was unacceptable and I humbly and fully apologize to everyone who's seen that video, everyone that's been offended," adding, "everyone who thinks of me in a lower light and I understand why they do."

Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship is set to offer Mike Tyson more than $20 million to come out of retirement and compete in a fight for the organization, according to Steven Marrocco of MMA Fighting.

"I think I know what we need to do to make this thing happen," BKFC President David Feldman said.

The company offered the 53-year-old $20 million earlier this month, but its next attempt will include more money as well as charitable donations.

The former world heavyweight champion last competed in an official boxing match in 2005, but he has returned to training and posted videos of his sessions online:

"He hasn't hit mitts for almost 10 years. So I didn't expect to see what I saw. I saw a guy with the same speed, same power as guys 21, 22 years old," trainer Rafael Cordeiro told ESPN's Ariel Helwani (via Steve Kim of ESPN.com).

Tyson hasn't revealed his plans for an upcoming fight but noted on Young Money Radio there are plenty of options.

"We got so many guys that want to do this," he said, via Complex. "We're in calls—we're doing business with guys you ain't even going to believe the names when the names come out."

MMA star Tito Ortiz told TMZ Sports he has been contacted by Tyson, while Evander Holyfield also reportedly is considering a third bout with the legendary fighter, per TMZ.

Feldman told Marrocco MMA legend Wanderlei Silva is another potential opponent.

Video After The Jump

The lawyer for Ahmaud Arbery's family says the federal authorities met with them last week and said they have launched a criminal investigation into the conduct of 2 district attorneys and members of the police department that allegedly covered up Ahmaud's killing.

Lee Merritt appeared Monday on "TMZ Live" and said the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia informed the family they were looking at both civil and criminal action against the officials.

Merritt also talked about the text message the police sent to a homeowner, telling him if there was "action" on his doorbell he should call Gregory McMichael, one of the accused murderers.

Merritt worries the police conduct may have effectively deputized the elder McMichael, such that the citizen's arrest laws don't apply and he would be treated as a law enforcement officer. As you know, McMichael's son, Travis, is the one who fired the shots, but Merritt says it could still be a problem given what the police did.

Nevertheless, the family is pleased William Bryan, the man who videotaped the shooting, has been charged with Ahmaud's death. Merritt says it was especially galling for the family to see Bryan's "media tour" proclaiming his innocence.

Fatman Scoop recently chopped it up with DMX. During their interview Scoop started naming off some of his favorite hip hop lyricists. When he mentioned Lloyd Banks, X stopped him.

"Lloyd Banks, Lloyd Banks, Lloyd Banks, Lloyd Banks?" X asked incredulously.

"Lloyd Banks, of course!" Scoop responded. "Some of the illest lines ever."

However, Dark Man X wasn't convinced.

"Quote four bars. Impress me with four bars then," X said. "It shouldn't be hard ... gimme two."

Scoop said he couldn't remember at that point. The conversation then switched gears.

When a fan on Twitter asked Banks about it he didn't seem interested in fanning the flames or starting any kind of beef.

"I have no clue..god bless him," Banks responded.

This shit damn near left me speechless. During an interview with Fatman Scoop, DMX said Lloyd Banks isn’t a lyricist.

DMX is a legend imo, but I couldn’t disagree with him more on this topic because to me Lloyd Banks aka The Punchline King is one of the most incredible emcees in hip hop history. Thoughts?
