Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez was arrested Monday on a charge of attempted murder and booked into Santa Clara (California) County jail, the San Jose Police Department announced Tuesday morning.
Velasquez is being held without bail, per online records. He has a court date set for Wednesday.
The San Jose Police Department announced Monday evening that there was a shooting in the city near the intersection of Monterey Highway and Bailey Avenue. Police said one adult male was shot at least once and transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. On Tuesday, police identified Velasquez as the shooter.
"The motives and circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation at this time," per the San Jose Police public information Twitter account.
Velasquez, 39, is a two-time former UFC heavyweight champion, holding the title in 2010 and 2011 and then again from 2012 to 2015. The California native is considered one of the top heavyweight fighters of all time. Velasquez retired from MMA in 2019 and has been coaching at his longtime gym, American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose.
After his run in the UFC, Velasquez took up professional wrestling, first in Mexico, where his parents were born, and then in WWE. He was released by WWE at the outset of the pandemic in 2020, but resurfaced for Mexican promotion AAA in December. The plan, sources said, was for him to wrestle more this year.

Honcho God moved to a small town in NC in 2009. Although he worked tirelessly to gain exposure there, it was slow-moving. In 2017, he took a leap of faith and relocated to Charlotte, NC. There, he was able to connect with various local artists, DJ’s, promoters, and the like to build a steady and supportive following. He returned to his roots in NJ for a short time, and put in major work - meeting and working with local artists, doing features, and learning about musical engineering; His sound is unique - where drill, delivery, and talent create a musical trifecta that we never knew we needed.

ABOUT
Brian Alan Smith, known better by his artistic name No One Will Know, is a producer, guitarist, bass player, rapper, and photographer, and vocalist. With a couple of best friends, who each play the guitar or drums, the artist practices his skills at the bass. However, his musical compositions are the product of an independent process, doing everything himself in his music studio.
A skilled instrumentalist, Smith plays the electric guitar, the bass, the snare and hi hat, while adding drum samples into the mix on his midi controller. Having been making music since he started playing the trumpet in the fifth grade, the artist now has a Harmon mute like Miles Davis, which echoes a sound redolent of the like of smooth jazz elevator music. Under the musical identity of No One Will Know, the artist started building up his studio in 2012 and marked his foray into the music world, after he started playing electric guitar in 2018.

Russia's currency is tumbling after Western nations on Saturday agreed to put crippling sanctions on the country's financial sector in retaliation for its invasion of Ukraine.
The ruble fell about 30% against the dollar Monday — making it worth less than 1 U.S. cent — after the U.S., European Union & United Kingdom announced moves to block some Russian banks from the SWIFT international payment system and to restrict Russia's use of its massive foreign currency reserves. The system is used to move billions of dollars around more than 11,000 banks & other financial institutions around the world.
The ruble recovered ground after Russia's central bank sharply raised its key interest rate Monday to shore up the currency & prevent a run on banks. But it was trading at a record low 105.27 per dollar, down from about 84 per dollar late Friday.
A weaker ruble could cause inflation to surge, potentially angering Russians whose budgets will be stretched by soaring prices. It will also add to strains across Russia's financial system.
A sharp devaluation of the ruble would mean a drop in the standard of living for the average Russian, economists and analysts said. Russians are still reliant on a multitude of imported goods and the prices for those items are likely to skyrocket. Foreign travel would become more expensive as their rubles buy less currency abroad. And the deeper economic turmoil will come in the coming weeks if price shocks and supply-chain issues cause Russian factories to shut down due to lower demand.
"It's going to ripple through their economy really fast," said David Feldman, a professor of economics at William & Mary in Virginia. "Anything that is imported is going to see the local cost in currency surge. The only way to stop it will be heavy subsidization."
A rapidly depreciating ruble could also slam Russian companies that need to issue debt to raise capital.
"The [ruble] has gone into a tailspin, & most Russian bonds, whether directly sanctioned or not, have seen prices drop to levels suggesting significant risk of default," analysts with TD Securities said in a research note.

NEW YORK (Fox 5) - The NYPD has arrested a man accused of murdering former New York City drug lord Alberto "Alpo" Martinez.
27-year-old Shakeem Parker faces murder and weapons charges in connection with the case.
Martinez was shot and killed in Harlem on Oct. 31, 2021. The NYPD was called to Frederick Douglass Boulevard near W. 147th St. just before 3:30 a.m.
A dark, red pickup truck had crashed into parked cars. Martinez, the driver, had been shot 5 times in the chest through the car window. He continued to drive the truck approximately four blocks before crashing.
