(CNN) The Justice Department escalated its January 6 investigation by bringing seditious conspiracy charges against 11 defendants, including the leader of the Oath Keepers, Stewart Rhodes.

The latest accusations -- with a charge that had not previously been brought in the department's US Capitol attack prosecutions -- remove any sense that prosecutors believe the riot emerged from just a group of overzealous protestors, with new details about the planning and logistics alleged to have predated the Capitol breach.

The Justice Department until now had been careful not to push the idea of sedition, instead charging defendants affiliated with right-wing groups with conspiracy to obstruct the congressional proceeding on January 6. The seditious conspiracy charge carries the same possible consequence as an obstruction charge, but is rarely used, politically loaded and has been difficult for the Justice Department to use successfully against defendants in the past.

The new indictment brings to light planning the Oath Keepers are accused to have done ahead of the Capitol attack, as they allegedly recruited members, stocked up on weapons and organized to disrupt Congress' certification of the 2020 election. Prosecutors say they also continued to plot "to oppose by force the lawful transfer of presidential power" after the Capitol riot failed to block the electoral college vote, according to a Justice Department statement on Thursday.

One Oath Keeper claimed to travel to Washington, DC, for a scouting trip ahead of January 6, according to the indictment. The new court filings also detail accusations that the defendants stashed weapons at a Virginia hotel and that they were prepared to "rapidly transport firearms and other weapons into Washington, D.C." to support the efforts to stop the presidential certification vote.

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – Musician Kanye West, who performs under the name Ye, is under investigation for a possible battery incident which occurred in downtown Los Angeles early Thursday morning.

According to Los Angeles police, the incident occurred at 3 a.m. at the intersection of Santa Fe and Bay streets.

The exact circumstances of the incident were unclear. However, according to TMZ, West purportedly got into an argument outside the members-only club SoHo Warehouse, and is accused of punching a male fan who asked for an autograph.

West is named as a suspect in a misdemeanor battery report, police said.

No arrests have been made, police said. There was no word of any serious injuries.

QUINCY (WGEM) - The decision by Adams County Judge Robert Adrian to reverse his own conviction of a man accused in the criminal sexual assault of a Quincy girl has ignited a firestorm of criticism.

Speaking out for the first time Tuesday, 16-year-old Cameron Vaughan said 18-year-old Drew Clinton sexually assaulted her at a graduation party on May 30.

“I woke up at my friend’s place with a pillow over my face so I couldn’t be heard and Drew Clinton inside of me,” she said. “I asked him to stop multiple times and he wouldn’t. I finally got off the couch and pushed him off of me and he jumped up and just started playing video games as if nothing had happened.”

During a bench trial in October, Adrian convicted Clinton of one count of criminal sexual assault.

At a sentencing last week, however, Adrian reversed himself following a pair of motions by Clinton’s attorney, saying that a mandatory minimum sentence imposed by state statute would be inappropriate.

Adrian said that the 5 months Clinton had served in the Adams County Jail was enough.

“For what happened in this case, that is plenty of punishment,” Adrian said.

During the hearing, Adrian also had harsh criticism for parents at the party where the alleged assault happened, lambasting them for letting minors drink and swim in the pool in only their underwear.

Assistant State’s Attorney Anita Rodriguez prosecutes sex crimes for the county. She told the Herald-Whig she has never seen anything like the decision in her 40-year career.

“My heart is bleeding for the victim,” Rodriguez told the newspaper. “It was a very difficult bench trial. It did a lot for her healing process, but now she’s back to where we were at.”

Vaughan said hearing Adrian’s decision was devastating.

“I immediately had to leave the courtroom and go to the bathroom. I was crying,” she said.

Her father, Scott, said the seven-month ordeal has been devastating for daughter.

“She was a cross-country runner, she ran in track, she was an honor roll student,” he said. “Now, she’s lucky to carry a C average and she’s dropped out of all sports. All of her learning is at home now. She can’t go to school.”

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WREG) — U.S. Marshals, Memphis Police and Shelby County’s district attorney provided new details Wednesday on the suspects charged in the murder of Memphis rapper Young Dolph.

Justin Johnson, 23, also known as Straight Drop, was captured Tuesday afternoon in Indiana. Another man, Cornelius Smith, 32, was already in custody in Mississippi but was indicted in Shelby County on several charges in this case including first-degree murder.

Another man, identified as Shundale Barnett, who is originally from Memphis but lives in Dallas, faces charges of accessory after the fact for a role in helping Johnson, officials said. Barnett was a passenger in the vehicle driven with Johnson when he was captured. He is also being held in Indiana.

The Marshals received more than 500 tips after the announcement of a reward for information on Johnson. A tip Tuesday stated that Johnson was seen traveling on a highway in Brazil, Indiana.

Law enforcement officers were contacted, and they pulled over Johnson & took him into custody, the Marshal’s service said. Johnson had been on the run for some time & did not stay in one place long.

Memphis Police Chief CJ Davis said the investigation is ongoing & it is possible there would be more suspects. She said police do not have a theory on a motive for the shooting at this time.

Young Dolph, 36, whose real name was Adolph Thornton Jr., was a Memphis rapper who was shot & killed in a shooting at a cookie shop on Nov. 17.

Police revealed Johnson as a suspect last week. Smith was identified Tuesday, following his indictment by a grand jury on charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder, theft & other charges.

Trey Songz is denying allegations he raped a woman in a Sin City hotel ... with his team telling us he will be exonerated after the legal process plays out.

Here's the deal ... artist Dylan Gonzalez is accusing Trey of raping her in what she calls a "well known" Las Vegas hotel & says she's weighing her legal options. A source close to Dylan tells us the incident happened several years ago.

But a rep for Trey tells TMZ ... "Trey & his team are confident in the legal process and that there will be an abundance of exonerating information to come over the next few weeks."

Dylan's legal team, attorneys Ariel Mitchell & George Vrabeck, tell TMZ ... they will consider pursuing any & all legal avenues & will take action in the next few weeks, with plans for filing a civil suit. They do not mention anything about filing a police report or criminal charges.

Dylan has a few singles out & got into music after starring on the UNLV women's basketball team.

Trey is already being investigated for a separate alleged sexual assault in Vegas ... as we first told you, that alleged incident went down at The Cosmopolitan.

Groundbreaking hip-hop producer Pete Rock says that Nas hasn’t paid him a cent in royalties for his work on the rapper’s era-defining double-platinum album “Illmatic” — and he’s finally gearing up to sue, Page Six is told.

Rock and his attorneys claim that the Queens rapper — né Nasir Jones — signed a contract that would allow the producer a cut of the proceeds from the classic track “The World Is Yours,” a total that’s now in the millions of dollars.

And we’re told that lawyers for Rock — who has produced classics for A Tribe Called Quest and Gang Starr, among many others — have repeatedly demanded that Nas honor the alleged deal, to no avail.

Rock has a writing credit on the tune — the only single on the 1994 LP to have gone gold — produced it and even provided vocals.

Now we’re told Rock’s legal team is preparing to file a lawsuit in January, we’re told.

Rock told Page Six, “Nas and his people have stonewalled me since 1994; My New Year’s resolution is to be compensated for my hard work on ‘Illmatic.'”

The track is the song most sampled by hip-hop artists from Nas’ catalog, according to insiders. It has been sampled by Jay-Z, Eminem, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, and the late Mac Miller.

The song was also used in the film “Antwoine Fisher,” directed by and starring Denzel Washington.

Apparently, Nas has a better relationship with other blue-chip producers who worked on the album. DJ Premier, who also produced tracks on “Illmatic,” guested on his track “Wave Gods” — which also features A$AP Rocky — from the surprise-dropped-on-Christmas album “Magic.”
