LOS ANGELES (AP) — Bob Saget, the actor-comedian known for his role as beloved single dad Danny Tanner on the sitcom “Full House” and as the wisecracking host of “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” died while on a stand-up tour. He was 65.
Deputies in Orange County, Florida, were called Sunday about an “unresponsive man” in a hotel room at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando and found Saget dead, according to a sheriff’s statement on Twitter. Detectives found “no signs of foul play or drug use in this case.”
Saget was in Florida as part of his “I Don’t Do Negative Comedy Tour.” After warm audience receptions to his gigs Friday in Orlando and Saturday in the Ponte Vedra Beach resort area, he celebrated online.
“I’m back in comedy like I was when I was 26. I guess I’m finding my new voice and loving every moment of it,” he posted Saturday on Instagram.
Fellow comedians and friends praised Saget not only for his wit, but his kindness.
In a statement Sunday, Saget’s family members said they are “devastated to confirm that our beloved Bob passed away today.... Though we ask for privacy at this time, we invite you to join us in remembering the love and laughter that Bob brought to the world.”
Raunchy comedy wasn’t part of his long-running network TV shows. He hosted the family friendly “America’s Funniest Home Videos” and played the squeaky clean widower and dad to three young girls on “Full House,” the ABC sitcom that also brought fame to Olsen twins Mary-Kate and Ashley when it debuted in 1987.
Saget had daughters Aubrey, Lara and Jennifer with first wife Sherri Kramer before divorcing in 1997. He married Kelly Rizzo in 2018.

At least 19 people are dead, including nine children, after the city’s deadliest fire in more than 30 years tore through a Bronx apartment building Sunday morning, according to a police official.
The five-alarm blaze broke out just before 11 a.m. at 333 E 181st St, a 19-story building in the West Bronx, the FDNY said.
“This is going to be one of the worst fires we have witnessed in the City of New York in modern times,” Mayor Eric Adams said.
Around 200 FDNY members responded to battle the inferno.
Among the dead is a 4-year old, according to police sources. Fire officials said that at least 32 people sustained life-threatening injuries.
FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro said authorities “expect there to be numerous fatalities, but we don’t know yet.”
Adams, speaking from the scene of the blaze Sunday, called it “a horrific, horrific painful moment for the City of New York.”
“The impact of this fire is going to really bring a level of pain and despair in this city,” the mayor said at a press conference.
Among 63 residents injured, 32 had life-threatening injuries, nine had serious injuries, and 22 were treated with non-life-threatening injuries, Adams said. One FDNY member was also injured and brought to the hospital.
Nigro said at a presser that the department responded within three minutes and the fire spanned the second and the third floors.
“This smoke extended the entire height of the building, completely unusual,” he said. “Members found victims on every floor in stairwells.”
Nigro called the fire “unprecedented in our city.”
“The last time we had a loss of life that may be this horrific was at Happy Land Fire over 30 years ago here in the Bronx.”
Footage from social media shows fire fighters attempting to scale numerous ladders in order to save people.
Footage from social media shows firefighters attempting to scale numerous ladders in order to save people.
Fire officials don’t yet know the origin of the fire.s left open causing the fire to spread and smoke to spread, which is always a problem for us. As we see here by the broken windows throughout the building, this fire took its toll on our city,” he said.
The building currently stands as a shell of its former self, with windows and multiple floors broken and obvious fire damage on the lower floors.
Cristal Diaz, 27, a resident of the 15th floor, grabbed cousins, her aunt and dog “Fluffy” when she realized there was a fire.
“I was drinking coffee in the living room and I started smelling smoke. We started putting water on towels and the bottom of the door. Everything was crazy,” Diaz said. “We didn’t know what to do. We looked out the windows and saw all the dead bodies they were taking with the blankets.
Alanny, 13, her niece, said, “We saw moms fainting. They saw their kids dying.”
“We saw a bunch of bodies coming out. People from my childhood were dying,” Alanny said.
Christopher Carrasquilo, 65, who lives next door, ran into the building to help save residents.
“A little kid was stuck in the elevator. I had to bring him down. It was something like 9/11,” he said with tears in his eyes.
“They need fire escapes. They gotta put fire escapes,” he said. “The owner who owns this building gotta do something about it.”
Icy conditions made it tough to fight the fire, and the FDNY said it took more than an hour to put down the blaze.
Rachel McKenzie, a ninth floor resident, was in tears at the scene. “It is all too much. Oh God,” she said. “They’re still looking for women and children. I can’t talk.”
Another ninth floor resident, Fatima, who declined to give her last name, said she is blessed to be alive.
“You can’t explain it. Thank god I found my 3-year-old daughter. We went down the stairwell and it was pitch black. You couldn’t see a thing,” she said. “We went onto the 6th floor and a neighbor let us in and we stayed there until the firemen took us out. It was traumatizing.”
Harrowing images from the scene show a firefighter cradling a baby rescued from the fire, a victim on a stretcher, and a woman sitting on the ground being helped by paramedics with soot on her face.
“Something like this happens, but you never expect this to happen to you,” Diaz said.
Before Sunday, the city’s deadliest blaze in more than a quarter-century killed 13 people —including a year-old child — in a Bronx apartment building the night of Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017. That fire was the deadliest New York City blaze since 87 people perished in March 1990 in the Happy Land social-club arson attack, which took place less than a mile away.

CATSKILL, N.Y. (AP) — Graphic video made public Friday shows a man who doused himself in hand sanitizer bursting into flames when police officer used a stun gun on him at a New York police station in October.
Security footage released by the state attorney general’s office shows Jason Jones, 29, rolling on the floor in the Catskill police station lobby and rubbing his head to stop the flames.
Jones, who was taken off life support in December after six weeks in intensive care, was on fire for about 25 seconds and appeared to have burns on his upper back.
The attorney general’s office released the security footage as part of its investigation into Jones’ death.
Prior to being hit with the stun gun, the shirtless Jones is seen in a tantrum, ripping his hoodie and undershirt off, throwing a shoe at a table and knocking over a jug of hand sanitizer as three officers look on.
A few minutes later, Jones picks up the jug of hand sanitizer and squirts the liquid on his back and head. An officer then takes out a stun gun and shoot Jones with it and there’s a flash of light on the video as Jones bursts into flames.
Police Chief Dave Darling said officers in Catskill, about 33 miles south of Albany, were familiar with Jones from previous encounters and were likely afraid he was going to hurt himself.
Jones had been a standout track and basketball athlete at Catskill High School more than a decade ago, The Times Union reported.

HARVEY, Ill. (WGN) — As police investigated the murder of her teenage son, Leslie Bell said she decided to look for the killer on her own.
Bell spoke with neighbors to find out who had last been seen with her son, 17-year-old Isaiah Davis. She tracked down & briefly met with the man who is now accused of shooting Davis to death on Oct. 28 in south suburban Burnham.
“I knew that it was him who hurt my son, who actually killed my son,” Bell said. “It was his interaction with me. He couldn’t give me eye contact, so that was it for me.”
Isaiah's body was found burning in an alley on Oct. 28.
During a press conference Friday morning, Harvey investigators said the man arrested in connection to Davis’ murder has a history of violent crime in his past.
The Harvey deputy chief said 34-year-old Faheem Norwood, who was on parole at the time of his arrest on Dec. 31 & is now in Cook County jail, is charged in connection to Davis’ murder.
He was denied bail on Saturday & has previous convictions for aggravated use of a weapon, vehicular hijackings & attempted murder.
He was found not guilty in 2018 in the 2010 murders of 3 people, including a child.
Davis’ mother said he went to Thornton Township High School and had aspirations of becoming a lawyer one day.
Norwood’s next court date is scheduled for Jan. 14.

The man suspected of gunning down Young Dolph says he's waving the white flag to the authorities over the charges against him -- charges of which he says he's innocent.
23-year-old Justin Johnson took to his social media page Saturday to both profess his innocence, and to also announce he'd be turning himself into the cops. The strange part ... he says he won't be doing so until Monday.
Using his rap IG account, going by the stage name Straight Drop, Johnson writes ... "Turning Myself In Monday @201 I'm Innocent I'll Be Back Sooner Than You Can Blink." Shortly before this message, he posted a video of a local news package that covered his criminal history ... which included an interview with a criminal court judge from Shelby County, TN.
The judge recounts how Johnson had previously carried himself in a separate case, making it seem like he was compliant and, later, a well-behaved prisoner after accepting his fate ... only to be released on probation early. Johnson seems to think the judge's words here are actually vouching for his character, because he wrote ... "Next time post the REAL… BS ass Blogs."
Of course, Johnson's timeline of taking the weekend to himself definitely isn't gonna fly with the feds ... who are actively pursuing him in a manhunt right now, and probably don't want to wait until Monday to have the guy in their custody.
It's unclear where Johnson is at the moment, but he obviously has access to his Instagram page, and presumably his phone too. By the same token, he's also eluded the cops thus far -- so perhaps he really is on his own schedule at this point.
As we reported ... Johnson was announced as the prime suspect in Dolph's killing, and he's currently wanted on a slew of charges -- including first-degree murder.
He also appears to have shot a music video once upon a time at the same home where the authorities retrieved what they believed to be the getaway vehicle used the day Dolph was shot and killed.
We've reached out to the U.S. Marshals Service and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation ... so far, no word back.

JEFFERSON DAVIS COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) - The District Attorney of Jefferson Davis County says that a child’s innocence was lost after they were allegedly kidnapped and raped repeatedly by two men last week.
The incident took place when a two-year-old was allegedly abducted from Jefferson Davis County by Keldrick J. Magee, 33, and Kim Lodge, 62.
The boy was reported missing Thursday night around 8:55 p.m. and was found the next day at an apartment complex in a neighboring county. It is believed that he was dropped off at the apartment complex by their alleged abductors.
Magee, also known as K.K., has been charged with four counts of rape, one count of sexual battery and one count of kidnapping. Lodge has been charged with two counts of rape and one count of kidnapping.
Investigators say each man is charged with one count for each time he allegedly assaulted the child.
“The actions of these two individuals were horrendous with what was done to this 2-year-old,” stated DA Hal Kittrell in a press conference Thursday.
Kittrell revealed that the child was treated in the hospital due to injuries sustained during the attack, which officials believe took place Thursday night into Friday morning.
Kittrell also said that the 2-year-old’s innocence was lost and that “anybody who does this to a child does not deserve to be among us.”
It is not currently known if there was a connection between the child and the two charged.

ATLANTA (AP) — A Georgia woman has been sentenced to serve nearly three & a half years in federal prison for fraudulently taking more than $6 million in COVID relief funds.
Federal prosecutors say 49-year-old Hunter VanPelt of Roswell submitted six false loan applications to the Paycheck Protection Program from April to June 2020. She requested a total of more more than $7.9 million & received more than $6 million.
Prosecutors said VanPelt, who legally changed her name from Ellen Corkrum in July 2016, owned or controlled six companies & lied about the average monthly payroll & number of employees at each company. She also filed false tax, bank & payroll documents along with those applications.
The Paycheck Protection Program represents billions of dollars in forgivable small business loans for Americans struggling because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s part of the coronavirus relief package that became federal law in 2020.
The federal government has been able to recover about $2.1 million of the money she received.
VanPelt pleaded guilty in August. The prison term of three years & five months that she received Tuesday is to be followed by five years of supervised release. The judge also ordered her to pay restitution of more than $7 million and to forfeit more than $2 million.
“The Paycheck Protection Program is meant to help legitimate businesses and their workers through the depths of the pandemic,” U.S. Attorney Kurt Erskine said in the release. “Unfortunately, VanPelt decided to use the program as her personal bank. A significant federal sentence, such as the one she received, hopefully deters others from following the same path.”
