COLLEGE PARK, Md. - There are new developments in the case of a University of Maryland student whose beating by a group of Prince George's County officers was caught on camera. Now, the FBI (web) has joined the investigation to determine whether there was a violation of federal civil rights laws. And, we're hearing from the family of the battered student.

You saw the video first on ABC 7 News of University of Maryland student Jack McKenna being beaten unconscious by police after a college basketball victory.

On Tuesday, Prince George's County Police Chief Roberto Hylton said he was disappointed and outraged by what he saw.

"We're not going to tolerate any inappropriate behavior by our employees," Hylton said.

As a result, one officer has been suspended and Chief Hylton says two others could be subject to similar punishment.

But James McKenna, the student's grandfather, told us, "They should go to jail. And my opinion, it was assault with intent to murder or assault with intent to maim, both of which are felonies in the state of Maryland."

The images of what happened on March 3 are now circulating on University of Maryland's campus, just as prospective students are making their final college decisions. For some, the violence caught on tape could be a determining factor.

"If police officers are acting that way then I think it is a big deal. I would actually have to think twice about coming here," said Emma Baker, high school junior.

Chief Hylton said Tuesday at his press conference that there is a sense of urgency about this investigation. They're currently in talks with various sources to identify the other officers involved

Tracy McGrady is at a career crossroads, and he knows it.

The New York Knicks' swingman remains optimistic that an extensive training program this summer can help him regain the form that made him an NBA All-Star. But if his game doesn't return, he'll retire, he said Wednesday.

"If it don't happen this summer, I'll ride off into the sunset," McGrady told reporters before sitting out the Knicks' season finale, a 131-113 loss at Toronto.

"If I could go through another offseason of working my [butt] off, and I don't feel I'm getting any better, I can't see myself coming back playing the way I'm playing right now. I just don't see it happening," he said.

McGrady has played in just 65 games total the past two seasons after battling injuries and recovering from microfracture surgery on his left knee. The last 24 of those games were played with the Knicks, who acquired McGrady -- and his expiring contract -- in a trade with the Houston Rockets in February.

McGrady scored 26 points in his debut with the Knicks, on Feb. 20 against the Thunder. But he cracked the 20-point plateau just two more times and finished the season averaging 8.2 points per game, well below his career 21.5 ppg scoring average.

"You know what, after I realized I had something in the tank -- there were some games I did play well -- I was, like, really trying not to get hurt," McGrady told reporters on Wednesday.

"[Coach Mike D'Antoni] knew I wasn't going to be the T-Mac he was used to competing against when he was in Phoenix," McGrady said. "I knew I wasn't going to be that, but it was good for me to finally get out there and see where I was at physically after missing 1½ years of basketball."

Still, McGrady is hopeful a summer of intense training will extend his career. He's a free agent and though his future in New York is doubtful, he hopes he can catch on with a contender next season -- or at least resemble the player who won a pair of NBA scoring titles.

"I feel confident that I will be able to go and not worry about calling it quits," he said. "It's just been too much of constantly just grinding and trying to get it back. Mentally, it took a toll on me the last couple of years. I don't want to go through that again.

"This summer, I will continue to work hard and get myself and get in good shape and pay the best money doctors can buy and physical therapists and everything to get myself where I need to be."

As much of a pain it is to just call it what it is, sometimes rappers don't come to the realization that what they believe is hot, might not just be the one.

With all engines go for The R.E.D. Album, Game released the “street” single for the upcoming project.

“It Must Be Me” feat Pharrell

So...WTF was that Game? Why is he yelling all over the production like that?

Krazy” didn't work, “Big Money” was forgotten and by the sounds of this, Game might have to rethink the game plan.

For anyone that is keeping count, that makes his THIRD attempt at a street single for the upcoming project, which is scheduled to drop in June.

Funny enough, the rapper did poke fun at the fact that his former labelmate 50 Cent had to go through the trial and error period since people weren't being as receptive to the singles as he initially thought.

Well Game, unless that feature with Justin Timberlake does what it's “expected” then there should be some kind of worry coming out.

Having all of these features and producers don't mean a thing when the material isn't matching the arsenal behind the product.

The title of the song says it all Game...it must be you. This also isn't helping the argument that 50 Cent wasn't a major factor in creating those hits.

Is Game starting to lose his touch in music or is this just a new sound that will have to grow on people?

Talk about damage control: The morning after Whitney Houston bombed at Birmingham's LG Arena in the U.K., Sony Music issued a glowing press release in an attempt to cover up the singer's latest mess.

"Whitney Houston is back!" the e-mail reads. "Whitney has showed the world she is back in full force with a strong show to entertain her fans."

Not so, says — well, nearly everyone who attended the show.

According to reports, Houston performed so ineptly during her two-hour stint Tuesday night that fans began to boo — and some, who paid upward of $200 for a ticket, told local outlets they wanted their money back.

Their biggest source of ire: After singing for barely 20 minutes, Houston disappeared for a 20-minute break as her backup singers performed renditions of "Queen of the Night" and "For the Love of You." Soon after, the audience was treated to Houston's smash hit "One Moment in Time" — in a pre-recorded video montage.

This was all before Miss Houston began to slaughter "I Will Always Love You": Her attempt at the award-winning ballad is currently drawing ridicule on YouTube.

"It was a con, a ripoff. It wasn't a concert," said one angry fan.

Added another: "She kept the crowd waiting for ages after every song, and all she did was talk to stop her from having to sing. I was so looking forward to it, but I appeared to have wasted [my money]."

Critics weren't kind, either: By Wednesday morning, British Web sites and newspapers were calling the 46-year-old's performance everything from "horrendous" to "appalling."

The flop is also strengthening whispers that Houston hasn't kicked her addictions. Rumors of possible drug use began swirling soon after the singer kicked off the tour in February to scathing reviews — and gained speed when she was hospitalized in Paris for a "respiratory infection" that she blamed on allergies.

Her reps declared accusations of drug use "ridiculous," but that didn't silence critics after Tuesday night.

"Time and crack addiction have not been kind to her once astonishing voice," said one scribe. "Houston, we have a problem.

Yvonne Davis' outrage upon hearing that a third-grader handed out bags of heroin at her grandchildren's Wilkinsburg school was tempered only by the fact that none of the children sampled the drug.

"Oh my Lord Jesus, there but by the grace of God these kids are all right," said Davis of Wilkinsburg, PA, whose two granddaughters attend Turner Elementary School. "It's very scary to hear that this happened in a school full of small children."

Wilkinsburg police said teachers became suspicious Tuesday afternoon when they saw an 8-year-old boy repeatedly "rummaging" through his pockets. They confronted him and found 60 single-dose bags, known as stamp bags, in his pockets, police Chief Ophelia "Cookie" Coleman said.

A full stamp bag sells for about $10 on the street, she said.

The bags each contained residue that police, using a field test kit, determined was heroin, Coleman said. Teachers found 18 empty stamp bags in a trash can. The bags, stamped with the words "Trust Me," were sent to the Allegheny County Crime Lab for analysis and confirmation of the heroin finding, Coleman said.

"This is not a reflection on Turner Elementary School; this speaks to the environment this child was living in," Coleman said.

Coleman said school officials and police met with the boy and his mother and learned he is not supposed to be attending the school because he lives in Pittsburgh. Authorities did not identify the family.

Investigators have a "pretty good idea" where the drugs came from but made no arrests as of Wednesday evening, Coleman said. Wilkinsburg police contacted the District Attorney's Office to discuss possible charges, but Coleman declined to elaborate.

She said the boy indicated "he was emulating what he had seen on the streets -- selling drugs."

The boy gave the stamp bags to other children. Superintendent Archie D. Perrin Jr. said school officials talked to each of the children who came in contact with the heroin and warned their parents to be alert for behavior changes. He said he received no reports of children becoming sick.

Janitors searched the school for signs of drugs but found none, Perrin said. The school plans to meet with parents soon to discuss the incident, and officials sent a letter home with students explaining some of what happened.

"As a precaution, the district is advising all parents to talk to their children about any interaction they might have had with the student and, possibly, the substance, and take appropriate action," the letter said.

The county Department of Children, Youth and Families is involved, and Perrin said the student had not returned to school.

Jan Gooden, 53, has a foster child who attends fourth grade at Turner. She said she was saddened to hear about the heroin incident.

"I think it's the parents' fault," Gooden said. "A child that age can't buy drugs. It had to come from home, and that is a shame.

Scoob Scorsese is getting ready to debut his biggest movie yet. DJ Scoob Doo has spun records at parties and clubs, made mixtapes and stepped out as Lil Wayne's cinematographer in the DVD reality series "The Nino Brown Story." Now he's taking his next step: video director. Scoob helmed the video for Lil Wayne's "I'm Single" from the No Ceilings mixtape, and it officially debuts Sunday on MTV2's "Sucker Free Sunday Countdown" and MTV Jams.

"The thing with Wayne, if you don't get a chance to see how hard he worked on the record, and the wit and pizzazz he had with it, he wants to give you that same feeling the first time you hear it," Scoob told MTV News. "Which he does audio-wise, but him performing it for you in the studio is what really it's about as far as this video."

In the clip for "I'm Single," we see Wayne play and perform the song for the first time.

"I was there, Mack Maine was there," Scoob says. "Mally G was there. This is the first time he's playing it. It's history. When you hear a song for the first time, you always remember where you was when you heard it. Even if the cameras wasn't there to capture it, that's exactly what it would be. That's the great thing about the video, it's authentic. It's your front seat. Enjoy your seat!"

The short also has a storyline element.

"[Wayne's girl was mad that] he didn't make it home in time," Scoob explained of the plot. "He stayed out all night. That's the idea I got with the song. It brought me back to watching the film 'A Thin Line Between Love and Hate.' Me growing up watching Martin [Lawrence], it was epic, it was a funny movie. I loved the cinematography in it. [Writing the script for the video], that was me being a fan of that movie and good music and putting it together."

The video also stars models Natasha and Tammy Torres (from Wayne's "Mrs. Officer" video).

"Tammy Torres is the mistress," Scoob detailed. "She's the reason Wayne didn't make it home — the reason why he's single for the night. Natasha is the one who has heartache. She's scorned to the point where she turns crazy and deranged. You don't wanna cross that thin line."

Scoob said people shouldn't be surprised to see him in the director chair. It's something he's been pursuing for quite some time, he's just taking the opportunity now.

"It's not something I would call a transition," he said. "This is something I've been doing for a while. I'm excited that we're making a big deal out of it because I've been working hard. I didn't have to change my format of what I've been doing. The people that know me, they are so excited right now. This is exactly what they've been campaigning and promoting for years."

The clip is one of many that Wayne filmed before he began his prison sentence on weapons charges last month.

Scoob has "The Nino Brown Story Part III" coming up, as well as the Birdman's "The Godfather" DVD — there's a video for Birdman's "Bigger Than Life" that Scoob directed in the can as well.

LOS ANGELES – Nas says he's focusing on music and his children after striking a deal to dismiss a civil contempt charge against him.

A Los Angeles judge dismissed the contempt allegation against the rapper Monday after he paid nearly $50,000 in child support to his estranged wife Kelis (kehl-EES').

Kelis' attorney sought the contempt charge earlier this year after Nas (NAHZ) fell $200,000 behind on child and spousal support payments. He was ordered in December to pay more than $51,000 a month to Kelis and their infant son.

She filed for divorce in May.

In a statement released Wednesday, Nas says, "All I want to do is make music and raise my kids. Nothing else matters."

Both musicians have said they're working on new music.

Nas has a daughter from a previous relationship

VATICAN CITY — The Vatican has gone into full-fledged damage control mode in the priest sex abuse scandal ahead of Pope Benedict XVI's first foreign trip since it erupted. Officials are promising surprising new initiatives. The pope's personal secretary is speaking out. And bishops around the world are being told to report abuse cases to the police.

The revved-up strategy comes as the Vatican tries to stem the damage from weeks of revelations about priests who raped and molested children — and the church officials who kept it quiet — before the pontiff's visit to Malta this weekend. Abuse victims on that majority Roman Catholic Mediterranean island are seeking a papal audience and apology.

Vatican spokesman the Rev. Federico Lombardi declined Tuesday to confirm whether Benedict would meet with victims, but didn't rule it out. The pope is prepared to meet with victims, Lombardi said, but "in a climate of meditation and reflection, not under media pressures."

Before previous foreign trips, Lombardi has declined to confirm meetings with abuse victims until after they were held.

The Vatican has been reeling for weeks since reports surfaced that Benedict — when known as Joseph Ratzinger and served as archbishop in Munich from 1977-82 — approved therapy for a pedophile priest who was allowed to do pastoral work. The priest was later convicted of molesting boys. Since then, hundreds of people have come forward with abuse accusations in Germany and elsewhere in Europe, and old cases with connections to Rome and the pope himself have come to light in the United States.

Initially, the Vatican responded defensively, with Vatican officials and cardinals accusing the media, the Masons, pro-abortion rights and pro-gay marriage supporters for plotting attacks against the pope. Recently, the Vatican has shifted course, still complaining about an anti-Catholic campaign but also promising more transparency and taking initiatives to at least give an impression that change is afoot.

Lombardi said new initiatives were being studied, including more papal meetings with victims as well as a "deepening of the measures of prevention and response" to abuse. He declined to elaborate. But victims groups have long complained that the Vatican has never issued any universal norms instructing bishops on the pastoral care they should provide for victims or prevention strategies to make sure pedophiles aren't admitted into the priesthood in the first place.

On Monday during a trip to Chile, the Vatican's No. 2 official, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, said he believed the pope would take further initiatives "which won't fail to surprise us." He declined to elaborate.

Benedict's personal secretary, Monsignor Georg Gaenswein, spoke out Tuesday for the first time since the scandal broke, defending the pope's prolonged silence on the German cases and charging that Benedict had done more than anyone else to crack down on abuse.

"It does not make sense, nor is it helpful, for the Holy Father to comment personally on each case," he told the daily Bild, Germany's highest-circulation newspaper. "It is overlooked too fast that various bishops and bishops conferences carry responsibility."

The Vatican for weeks has been trying to argue the same — that abusive priests were primarily the responsibility of bishops, not Rome. That strategy has also been employed by the Vatican's lawyers in the U.S. who are trying to shield the Holy See from lawsuits alleging it was liable for the failure of bishops to report abuse cases to police.

On Monday, the Vatican posted on its Web site what it claimed is a long-standing policy telling bishops to report abuse to police, where civil laws require it. Such a policy has never before been explicitly spelled out.

Attorney William McMurry, who has sued the Holy See in Louisville, Kentucky, on negligence charges, said posting the policy was nothing more than an attempt by Rome to "deflect attention and responsibility for the past onto the bishops."

"If they always wanted bishops to report, they wouldn't need a black letter policy today," McMurry said.

He has argued that Vatican documents calling for sexual abuse cases to be kept secret and forwarded to Rome were evidence that the Holy See had mandated a cover-up of abuse.

Vatican attorney Jeffrey Lena has said the documents mandated said no such thing and that nothing in them precluded reporting abuse to police.

The posting of the policy nevertheless indicated a strong shift in the Vatican's much-criticized communications strategy. Alongside the policy, which spells out how canonical investigations are conducted, the Vatican has posted key documents and speeches the pontiff has delivered concerning abuse. It has made top officials available to the media. And it has turned to its U.S. lawyer — Lena — to do a lot of its talking.

While it's not clear what prompted the shift in tactics, the Vatican has been keeping a close eye on how the scandal is playing out in the United States and elsewhere, and seems increasingly attuned to the impression it has oftentimes created as an aloof institution that doesn't understand the outrage of victims and their families.

Giovanni Maria Vian, the editor in chief of the Vatican's newspaper, L'Osservatore Romano, conceded that there had been communications problems in the initial phases of the scandal, and that some comments by Vatican officials seemingly minimizing the scandal or attempting to deflect it hadn't been "prudent."

But he noted: "Let's be clear. Everyone has communications problems."

"One could do better. Sure one could do better. We're trying to do it every day," Vian told reporters at the foreign press association.

The pope, officials say, has remained tranquil despite the storm. He took in a film on Friday night about the wartime Pope Pius XII and spent the past week on vacation at the papal summer residence. He remains well-informed about everything going on, Vian said.

"If you ask me if the Vatican feels under siege, I say that I do not feel under siege," Lombardi said.

(CBS/ AP) Senator John McCain said the United States has been backing away from a brewing fight with Iran, while that country moves ever closer to having nuclear weapons.

McCain opened a Senate hearing Wednesday by saying that Iran will get the bomb unless the United States acts more boldly.

Speaking figuratively, the Arizona Republican says the U.S. keeps pointing a loaded gun at Iran but failing to "pull the trigger."

Military and intelligence officials testifying before Congress said Iran's accelerated nuclear program could produce one weapon in roughly a year, if the country decided to go that route.

But Gen. James Cartwright predicts it would still take longer than that to make the bomb usable.

Cartwright said that, historically, it takes a country three to five years to make such a leap. Cartwright is the second highest-ranking U.S. military officer.

The timeline he cited Wednesday could be shortened if Iran pursued ways to deliver a weapon at the same time as it worked to build a bomb.

The U.S. government has prepared a new, classified, assessment of Iranian nuclear ability and intent but has not released it yet.

The State Department's No. 3 official said the United States is working as fast as it can to win new international sanctions on Iran.

William Burns predicted that a resolution will emerge from the United Nations Security Council within weeks. And Burns called the case for new penalties urgent, saying he expects China will agree to some form of sanctions.

The U.S. appeared to have gained support from China, a traditional stumbling block on the United Nations Security Council regarding Iran, during a U.S.-hosted summit on nuclear proliferation this week.

Iran has denied it is seeking a nuclear weapon and maintains its ambitions are strictly energy-related. Tehran has also scoffed at U.S. threats to increase pressure. As the Obama administration welcomed nations to the nuclear summit Monday, Iran was busy celebrating "National Nuclear Day," reported CBS News correspondent Elizabeth Palmer from Tehran.

Despite the rhetoric brushing aside the prospect of sanctions, the head of the country's nuclear program, Ali Akbar Salehi, made a candid admission in a rare interview with CBS News.

"Of course sanctions will affect us," said Salehi, who earned his Ph.D. at MIT in Boston."But it only will delay our projects. It will not stop our projects."

"They will hurt," he added. "Then we will have to come up with our own manufacturing systems."

Iran already uses homemade technology to enrich uranium in one plant, and recently announced it would build six more.

Eminem made a surprising announcement via his Twitter account Tuesday (April 13).

Apparently the highly anticipated Relapse 2 album has been scrapped.

Em has been hard at work on the project with super producer Just Blaze. It's possible the direction of their collaborations has lead Slim to simply change the title of the album to something else.

Slim had initially announced back on March 29 via Twitter that some big news was coming and this certainly qualifies as that.

(CNN) -- Rescuers carried an 11-year-old girl out of dense, swampy forest in Florida on Tuesday, four days after she disappeared.

The team, carrying Nadia Bloom in a cloth stretcher, trudged through brush for nearly two hours to bring her out of the area near Lake Jesup, northeast of Orlando, Florida, said Chief Kevin P. Brunelle of the Winter Springs Police Department.

He said that Nadia, who has been described as mildly autistic, was found shoeless and covered in insect bites. She was otherwise in good condition.

"She was not complaining of anything other than the fact that she had insect bites," Brunelle said.

"She did make two comments to the officers when they got there: 'Glad you guys found me, can't believe you rescued me,' " he said.

A paramedic with the group administered intravenous fluids to the girl, he said. Nadia was taken to a hospital for evaluation, and a doctor there said she smiled when she arrived and was "doing wonderfully," CNN affiliate WESH-TV reported.

"Her vitals were stable. She clearly has had the effects of being outside for five days," said Dr. Rakish Parekh at South Seminole Hospital in Longwood, Florida, according to WESH. "But she's handling it very, very well."

A member of the Bloom family's church who was participating in the search found Nadia, who had been missing since Friday, HLN reported.

James King called authorities around 8:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday to tell them that he had found her, Brunelle said.

Authorities used King's cell phone to track down his location, and then had a helicopter fly around the area to find him.

"Mr. King, himself, climbed a tree and was able to throw toilet paper on top of the tree back and forth in order to give us a location," Brunelle said.

"Mr. King is a hero. He led us to her," he said.

He said the rescuers had to chop through bushes and trees to carry Nadia back to where her family and reporters were waiting.

"It just shows the compassion of the human spirit when things like this happen. It should give everyone encouragement," Nadia Bloom's father, Jeff Bloom, told reporters after seeing his daughter.

Nadia was on a bike ride when she stopped to take some pictures and got lost, her father said.
"Our daughter's a nature lover," he said.

Authorities are interviewing King for further details, Brunelle said.

Authorities canceled an Amber Alert for the girl on Tuesday morning; the cancellation said "the case has been resolved" but provided no further details.
