A woman in Georgia has died after she was taken into custody but somehow managed to fall out of a police patrol car while authorities were taking her to the sheriff's office.
The incident occurred on July 15 when 28-year-old Brianna Marie Grier of Sparta, Georgia, was taken into custody by Hancock County Sheriff's Office deputies after they were called to her home on Hickory Grove Church Road, according to a statement released by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
"Grier was arrested at the home," the statement from the GBI said. "While deputies were taking Grier to the Hancock County Sheriff's Office, Grier fell out of a patrol car & sustained significant injuries."
It is unclear if Grier was handcuffed while she was in the vehicle, how fast the car was going at the time or how exactly she was able to fall out of the car while en route to the sheriff's office. The GBI statement did not say why Grier had been taken into custody in the first place.
Grier died on Thursday at Grady memorial Hospital in Atlanta at approximately 1 p.m. from injuries she sustained in the fall.
"Hancock County Sheriff Terrell Primus asked the GBI's regional investigate office in Milledgeville to investigate on July 15 following the initial incident," said the GBI.
Authorities said that Grier's body will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy & that the GBI investigation is ongoing.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Former Minneapolis police Officer Thomas Lane was sentenced Thursday to 2 1/2 years in prison on a federal civil rights charge for his role in the killing of George Floyd.
U.S. District Judge Paul Magnuson sentenced Lane for his February conviction of depriving Floyd of medical care as he lay dying under Officer Derek Chauvin’s knee in May 2020.
“Mr. Lane this is a very serious offense, in which a life was lost,” Magnuson said. “The fact that you did not get up and remove Mr. Chauvin when Mr. Floyd became unconscious is a violation of the law.”
But Magnuson also held up 145 letters of support for Lane — he said he had never received so many on behalf of a defendant & faulted the Minneapolis Police Department for sending him out with another rookie on the call that ended with Floyd’s killing.
Federal prosecutors had asked for a sentence of up to 6 1/2 years, in line with federal guidelines. Lane’s attorney asked for a little over 2 years, arguing that Lane was the least culpable of the officers in part because he had asked his colleagues twice whether Floyd should be turned on his side.
Magnuson ordered him to surrender to U.S. Marshals on Oct. 4.
Lane, who is white, held Floyd’s legs as Chauvin pinned Floyd for nearly 9 1/2 minutes. Two other officers, J. Alexander Kueng & Tou Thao, were also convicted of violating Floyd’s civil rights & will be sentenced later. Lane faces a separate sentencing Sept. 21 in state court after changing his plea there to guilty to a reduced charge of aiding & abetting manslaughter.

The criminal cases against the former Aurora police officers & paramedics indicted in Elijah McClain’s death will move forward after an Adams County judge found the evidence against them strong enough.
Lawyers for the 5 men asked Adams County District Court Judge Priscilla Loew to review the cases & argued that there was not enough evidence to support the charges against their clients.
A grand jury in August indicted the 5 men — Peter Cichuniec, Jeremy Cooper, Nathan Woodyard, Randy Roedema & Jason Rosenblatt — on a combined 32 counts in connection with McClain’s 2019 death while in their custody, including manslaughter & criminally negligent homicide.
Loew reviewed thousands of pages of testimony & evidence & on Monday found that there was enough evidence for the cases to proceed.
Probable cause is a legal standard that states there must be sufficient evidence to create a reasonable belief that the defendant committed the crime charged. That is a lower standard than the “beyond a reasonable doubt” standard needed to convict someone at trial.
All five men are scheduled to appear in court for arraignment Aug. 12.
Pure unadulterated grit! Baltimore emcee Staxx410 a Black House Records artist, has unleashed a fireball of a new single “Pearl Of Bahudine” featuring the legend Rockness Monsta (Heltah Skeltah) and produced by Jamil Honesty. As Rock is known for his unique flow and unmistakable voice Staxx410 is equally distinguishable with a raspy and ill style that makes this track adrenaline-laced for the ruffnecks.
Capped with some well-chosen sound bites from OG supervillain Megatron, Staxx410 says of the track “I met Rock at a Duck Down event back in 2016 and been wanting to do a track with him for a few years now. I came up with the title and the concept being a fan of the original Transformers cartoon and Rock being a Decept. It aligned perfectly!”
