Forest Grove, ORE. (KPTV) — A man accused of faking a burglary to cover up money stolen from his daughter’s sale of Girl Scout Cookies faced a judge Friday.
Brian Couture, 40, of Forest Grove, Oregon, pleaded not guilty to charges of initiating a false report and improper use of an emergency reporting system.
Police said Couture called 911 on March 6 and reported that someone had gotten into his home through a sliding glass door, leading to a struggle.
Couture was unresponsive when police arrived, and he was taken to the hospital. The area was searched, but no suspect was located.
Police said Couture later admitted that he had staged the incident.
Detectives determined he did it to conceal the theft of money from a nonprofit organization.
A Girl Scouts spokeswoman confirmed Couture is the father of a Girl Scout and there is around $740 in unaccounted-for cookie sales in connection with this case.
“Since the March 18 arrest in this case, we have been in contact with the Forest Grove Police Department and are working with them to resolve the matter,” according to a statement from the Girl Scouts. “At this time, Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington is following our normal procedure to collect on funds owed. The stewardship of Girl Scout troop funds is a top priority for our organization, and that is our focus in this matter.”

NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. (CBS Local) — A Pennsylvania man assaulted an employee after he became upset with the way his groceries were being bagged, authorities said.
Bradley A. Bower, 55, was in the checkout line at a Giant Food Store in New Cumberland Feb. 2 when he became upset. Bower became angry when a cashier put canned goods in the same grocery bag as chips, smashing the chips, according to police.
Bower asked the cashier to stop bagging his groceries that way and then, on his way out of the store, he allegedly told the cashier: “Do you have a problem with me? Because I have a problem with you.”
The cashier, who said he thought Bower was kidding, replied: “Do you?”
That’s when Bower, described by police as 6-foot-tall, weighing 250 pounds, allegedly grabbed the employee by the neck and shouted “You idiot!” The cashier told police he shoved Bower away from him, and other employees then stepped in to separate them.
The employee suffered bruising to his neck, police said.
When police arrived, they viewed security video from the store and issued a simple assault summons for Bower.
Police say Bower told officers he knew he was in the wrong, but he was having a bad day and his chips being smashed sent him over the edge, CBS affiliate WHP reported.

Report via TMZ -- Conor McGregor personally attacked Khabib's wife -- and seemingly mocked Muslim tradition -- tweeting a photo of the UFC champ and his bride ... and calling her a "towel."
McGregor went on a Twitter rampage Tuesday night ... unleashed a fury of Tweets directed at Paulie Malignaggi -- who slapped his good friend, Artem Lobov, earlier in the day -- and Nurmagomedov.
“Don’t be scared of the rematch you little scurrying rat" ... McGregor wrote.
Conor dug in, getting personal ... posting 2 photos from Khabib's wedding day -- along with the caption, "Your wife is a towel mate" -- appearing to make fun of Khabib's wife's clothing.
McGregor deleted the message minutes later.
Khabib and his wife are devout Muslims ... and his manager, Ali Abdelaziz, took the insult as a direct slight at Khabib's religion.
"Talking shit, this guy is insulting someone’s wife and making fun of her religion and belief. He doesn’t realize he’s insulting 1.5 billon Muslims. Religion and family is a no no. You’re fucked Connor, let’s see what the media is going to say now. He’s a rapist, and a bitch."
Conor's used racially and religiously charged rhetoric to sell fights and belittle fighters in the past ... so it's possible this entire incident is an attempt to goad Khabib into a rematch.
**UPDATE** Khabib just fired back at his arch nemesis ... clearly alluding to the reports that McGregor is under investigation for sexual assault in Ireland (Conor's rep bashed the report as a "rumor," but did not address the allegations).
"Rapist, you are Rapist," Nurmagomedov tweeted.
"You are a hypocrite who is not responsible for your actions. Justice will find you. We will see."

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – A man suspected of gunning down musician Nipsey Hussle over a personal dispute has been captured in the Bellflower area.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to CBS2 that 29-year-old Eric Holder was caught by deputies sometime before 1:30 p.m. Los Angeles police told CBS2 they were responding to confirm the suspect’s identity as Holder.
Hussle, 33, was killed in a triple-shooting Sunday afternoon in a South Los Angeles which left two other men wounded.
LAPD Chief Michel Moore told reporters Tuesday that Holder, a gang member, approached Hussle and the other men he was with several times Sunday and spoke with them. Holder then returned with a handgun and opened fire.
“Mr. Holder walked up on multiple occasions and engaged in a conversation with Nipsey and the others that were there. He left and subsequently came back armed with a handgun, and purposefully and repeatedly fired, striking and killing Nipsey Hussle.”
One of the injured men was hospitalized, but the other was treated at the scene and refused to be transported.
Following the shooting, Holder fled in a 2016 Chevrolet Cruz being driven by an unidentified woman. Investigators were searching for both Holder and the female getaway driver.
Moore said that Holder had been engaged in some kind of dispute with Hussle, but did not specify the details of that dispute.
“At this point in our investigation, based on witness statements, and the background of those that we’ve identified, we believe this to be a dispute between Mr. Hussle and Mr. Holder,” Moore said.
“It appears to be a personal matter between the two of them in regards to a dispute, and I’ll leave it at that,” Moore added.
The Grammy-nominated Hussle, whose real name is Ermias Joseph Asghedom, was fatally shot at around 3:20 p.m. Sunday in the 3400 block of West Slauson Avenue in the Hyde Park neighborhood. He was shot in front of Marathon Clothing, a clothing store which he opened in 2017. Asghedom was in a longtime relationship with actress Lauren London and leaves behind two children.
Moore also provided an update on a stampede which broke out at a large vigil for Hussle Monday night in which more than a dozen people were injured.
The vigil turned chaotic at around 8:10 p.m. near the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and Slauson Avenue when Moore said an unidentified man brandished a handgun. At this time, there’s no evidence that he fired the gun, however.
“Another individual there, seeing that, and recognizing the danger in that, attempted to disarm him,” Moore said. “And in that struggle, that caused, obviously, panic in that group of hundreds of people, and a cascade, or stampede if you will, of people hoping to leave and not suffer any injury.”
As people were fleeing, several of them fell and hurt themselves.
“The vast majority of the injuries that we saw were cut injuries from falls, sprains, ankles and so forth,” Moore said.
One victim reported that he was stabbed, but police have not confirmed that, Moore said. Two other women also reported being shot. However, that also has not been confirmed.
“We will continue to investigate the nature of the injuries the two women suffered, I’m not questioning their account, but at this point, I’m lacking information that a shooting occurred,” Moore disclosed.

In this clip, Nick Cannon explains why the black community in particular is hurt over the tarnished legacies of Bill Cosby, R. Kelly, and Michael Jackson, keeping in mind their signature to the culture and how they were thought of as family. That leads to a discussion on the potential motivations behind the accusers seen on Leaving Neverland, with Cannon revealing that he was mad at Oprah when she gave them her platform at an ever further cost of Jackson's legacy. Elsewhere, Cannon clarifies a recent point he made about the reaction to Harvey Weinstein, conceding that even though there's a Sundance documentary that few people have seen, he's still waiting to see his mugshot like everyone else.
