Video After The Jump BENNETTSVILLE — A brawl erupted in a Marlboro County courtroom Tuesday when the family members of a slain woman attacked a man charged in her death, according to court officials. George Anthony Cousins, 46, is charged with murder in the shooting death of his girlfriend, 42-year-old Tammy Locklear Norris, and appeared in court Tuesday morning for a bond hearing on the charges, 4th Circuit Solicitor Will Rogers said. Just before the hearing started, two of Norris’ children lunged for Cousins. Cousins was apparently punched in the eye during the brief scuffle, but no serious injuries were reported and the fight was broken up quickly by deputies, Rogers said. Joshua Norris, 20, Laurinburg, N.C., and Nathaniel Dale Norris, 21, are charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and contempt of court. Deander Locklear, 37, is charged breach of peace after authorities said he caused a disturbance outside the Marlboro County Courthouse on Tuesday, Rogers said. Joshua and Nathaniel Norris will have to appear before 3rd Circuit Court Judge Howard King, who presided over Cousins’ bond hearing, later because it was he who held them in contempt of court. King later denied bond for Cousins’ release. Cousins was arrested when deputies responded to the shooting in Tatum at 5 a.m. on July 17 when the suspect called 911. Tammy Norris later died at a Charlotte hospital and the suspect’s charge was upgraded to murder. Source: SCNOW twitter-5d.gif

Video After The Jump

PHOENIX - He's been at the center of the discussions and controversies surrounding illegal immigration enforcement in Arizona for quite a while.

On the day parts of Arizona's immigration law, SB 1070, went into effect, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is in the news for another reason: there's a price on his head - allegedly offered by a Mexican drug cartel.

The audio message in Spanish is a bit garbled, but the text is clear.

"It's offering a million dollars for Sheriff Joe Arpaio's head and offering a thousand dollars for anyone who wants to join the Mexican cartel."

A man who wants to remain anonymous says his wife received the text message Tuesday evening. It also included an international phone number and instructions to pass the message along.

"She showed it to me..I was kind of disgusted..I reported it to the Sheriff's department yesterday..they said they were going to direct the threat squad on it."

Lisa Allen of the Sheriff's office says they believe the message originated in Mexico.

Although the Sheriff has received numerous death threats in the past, they believe this threat is credible because of its timing.

"Arpaio gets threats pretty routinely, but obviously with this heightened awareness of his role in the immigration issue we've got to take this one a little bit more seriously with a million dollar contract out on him," said Allen.

But she says what really concerns investigators is how quickly the message may have been spread. "It's going so many different places that our folks are looking at it and thinking well at any given point in time it could land in front of some crazy person who thinks I can do that."

As for Arpaio's reaction to the threat, "It's a little bit like water off a duck's back for him, but you never know if it's that sense of false bravado with him..you just can't read it, I'm sure he's concerned, I'm sure he's concerned for his family more than anything else," said Allen.

The Sheriff's office says investigators are trying to trace exactly where the text message came from, but because it did originate from an international number, that will be difficult too.

Video After The Jump

For the 2nd time a civil lawsuit filed in Alachua County, Florida against rapper Plies has been dismissed. The lawsuits stem from a concert shooting that left five people injured, but the saga is far from over. The plaintiffs have 20 days to amend their complaint and their lawyer says they will.

During a 2006 concert in Gainesville, Florida that also featured Lil Boosie, members of Plies' entourage are accused of letting off shots into a crowd at Club 238.

Plies plead guilty to a charge of possession of a firearm and was sentenced to probation. His brother Ronell Lawrence “Big Gates” Lavatte served three years in prison because he was a convicted felon.

Billy Dee Williams, Michael Lamar Daymon, Edwin Devasco Faircloth, Steve Ruben Jean-Jacques and Dorian Shannel Johnson are the plaintiffs in the case. They allege that Plies' music, lyrics and image as a goon contributed to the violence. They cite his song "I Am The Club" as an example of the rappers' violent lyrics.

Plies did not fire the shots, but they want him held liable nonetheless.

Their lawyer Christopher Chestnut says, "He [Plies] characterizes it as he is the principle, as if he is the guy, he's the gangster, he is the thug, he is the goon. Yes, that's what he's selling, that's why we're suing him."

They are also suing Plies' record imprint, Big Gates Records.

The rappers' lawyer, Robert Rush thinks the suit is only about money.

"I'm sure if he had no money, and he had no notoriety, and he wasn't making records there would be no lawsuit," Rush says.
