WALTERBORO, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina man and his 9-year-old daughter were mistaken for deer during a New Year’s Day hunting trip and accidentally shot to death by another hunter, authorities said.
Kim Drawdy, 30, and daughter Lauren were fatally shot about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Colleton County near Walterboro as four hunters tried to move deer, the state Department of Natural Resources said.
They died at the scene, Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey told The Post and Courier.
The Department of Natural Resources is investigating. More information, such as whether the two were wearing blaze orange safety gear, will not be provided until the investigation is complete, department spokesman David Lucas said.
South Carolina has a few hunting accidents each year, Lucas said. There have been several recently near the end of deer season Wednesday.
In 2019, the state had 16 hunting accidents, Lucas said. Eleven of those involved firearms, causing two deaths. The other five involved tree stand accidents, such as falls, which led to one death.
“It’s not a thing that happens a lot,” Lucas said. “Hunting accidents are rare in general, and fatalities even more so.”

Bhad Bhabie -- AKA Danielle Bregoli -- is publicly shaming boxing star Adrien Broner for trying to slide into her DMs.
She's 16 years old. He's 30. Not a great look.
Bregoli posted a screenshot showing an Instagram notification from Broner which reads, "Text me crazy girl."
She attached a video of the Akon song, "Locked Up" -- a clear shot at Broner for hitting up a minor.
Bregoli's fans immediately went after the boxer on social media -- lighting up his page with comments saying he should go to jail ... and even tagging the FBI and Atlanta Police.
Earlier in the day, Bregoli created a social media buzz by posting a video in which she's modeling a crop top. Broner's message seems to be in response to that clip.
We reached out to Broner for comment -- so far, no word back.
It's the latest misstep for Broner who was just ordered to pay more than $700k to his sexual assault victim stemming from a 2018 incident at a Cleveland nightclub.
Adrien Broner is offering up an explanation ... calling the whole thing an "honest mistake."
"Nobody want to date a kid," Broner told The Shade Room ... "but I fault Instagram for not having people’s age on they profile."
"I thought she was grown the way she out here moving."

A King out of Queens: Entrepreneur King Juice, born Kranston Ellis was birthed in the Turks and Caicos Islands. For those that’s not familiar the Turks and Caicos Islands its British territory located southeast of the Bahamas.
His parents relocated to the states when he was just an infant in efforts to give him bigger and brighter opportunities. The three migrated to a borough in New York City known as Queens. Young King Juice lived in South Jamaica, Queens for most of his life and learned to adapt to the rough environment. Rough meaning, if you were outside you had to fight. He grew up on Jamaica Avenue, a well-known street where everybody goes to shop. The area is also known for a being a good place to hustle, steal and rob, they called it the stage. People came from all four corners of Queens just to chill on the stage. For those that don’t know, the stage is the Coliseum; 165 and Jamaica, where you had to "Do it like you do it for TV" or you were a NOBODY. A lot of the GREATS have been there. 50 cent, Jam Master J, LL Cool J, Ja Rule, Nas, Nikki Minaj, the list goes on.
But back to King Juice, King Juice started off as petty street hustler, mixing with the ins and out crowds of the streets. He hustled in the streets learning the craft of networking and in between times he alongside his peers would to spit rhymes with one another. Somebody King Juice talks highly of is a guy from the area he used to always watch as a young kid. It was a guy he called his big bro Renaldo aka Shortz. He taught him the game. How to hustle harder, carry his self with style and how to survive. Shortz had a passion to get out the hood by jumping into the music scene. He had a few artists that he believed in but didn’t really have a good ear for music. King Juice seen this as his eye opener and took notes with inspirations to start his own label with his own artist, and later his ideas came into fruition with the launch of King Juice entertainment.
King Juice took what he learned in the streets and not only started his own label but created a multitiered platform for entertainment. Music, comedy, movies and everything else it takes to appease people's emotions. 2020 is an interesting year for the young mogul. King Juice has his two artist Monster and No Flaws on his King Juice Entertainment label, check them out.

Grammy-nominated rapper DaBaby was arrested on a battery charge Thursday night in Miami after arguing with a music promoter over payment for a performance, Miami police said in an arrest warrant.
After police arrested the rapper, whose real name is Jonathan Kirk, they found a warrant for his arrest from Texas, also on a battery charge. He was booked into the Miami-Dade jail just before midnight Thursday and was expected to make a first appearance in court on Friday. He will stay in custody until further notice, Miami-Dade Corrections spokesman Juan Diasgranados said in an email.
Kirk, who's best known for his single “Suge,” was in South Florida for a New Year's Eve performance at a Miami Beach nightclub. Thursday's incident began at Novotel Miami Brickell, where Kirk was staying, the arrest report said.
Kirk, 28, approached the music promoter, who said he'd made an agreement with the rapper to perform at Cafe Iguana in nearby Pembroke Pines, the report said. The man told police he gave Kirk $30,000 but when the rapper counted it he claimed it was $10,000 short. When Kirk demanded the money, an argument broke out and Kirk punched a man who was with the music promoter.
The promoter told police he fled to his hotel room out of fear for his safety. The man who was punched told investigators that one of the men with Kirk took his cellphone, a bank card and $80 in cash.
Later in the evening, Kirk returned to the hotel and the two victims identified him to police, who arrested him. The arrest report said Kirk denied involvement in the incident.

DaBaby got hauled away in handcuffs, and it's because cops want to hear what he has to say about a robbery ... TMZ has learned.
The rapper's been taken to police headquarters in Miami for questioning by detectives regarding a robbery Thursday around 12:30 PM. Seven cop cars were on hand when DaBaby was cuffed.
In video of the alleged robbery, you see some guys -- we're told they are members of DaBaby's crew -- jumping a man and apparently taking his money and possibly some other property as well.
It's been a rough run for DaBaby ... he was just arrested last week in Charlotte, North Carolina after he performed at the Bojangles' Coliseum. He was cited for marijuana possession, but he claims he was targeted and claimed on social media that police harass him every time he comes to his home state.
